Mark Twain s The Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn And The...
Mark Twain, American humorist and novelist, captured a world audience with stories of boyhood
adventure and with commentary on man s shortcomings that is humorous even while it probes,
often bitterly, the roots of human behavior. His writing, Shelley Fisher Fishkin who is one of the
leading scholars on the work of Mark Twainin American culture and literature observes, involves an
entreaty to rethink, reevaluate and reformulate the terms in which one defines both personal and
national identity. Twain hoped to coax us out of our timid and suspicious privacy and into
recognition of human equality and of the dignity of self governing citizenship. Evidently at odds
with so much of established opinion, this high aim was only another reason... Show more content on

In The War Prayer Twain argues against the philosophy of imperialism. This essay was written
in 1900 s when America was caught up in the idea of imperialism and extending its influence to
other countries using military prowess. He reveals that praying for success in war is also
praying for the defeat of another nation. He questions what exactly the people are praying for.
Even though it appears that the people are praying for the safety of their soldiers, in the end it can
be concluded that they are praying for destruction of another civilization. But the argument does
not stop here: the last line of the essay says, It was believed afterward that the man was a lunatic,
because there was no sense in what he said (Twain, 682). After bringing forth the harm caused by
war, the aged stranger is dismissed as a lunatic. The characters sheer ignorance leads them to believe
that God s messenger, who has posed these questions, must be just an insane old man thus
illuminating the public opinion in the early 90s.
The sentences in The War Prayer are lean, accelerated, cadenced, and charged with imagery. The
premise on which their authority depends in this case, that official and religious can t conceal
seeds of their abominable corollaries is self evident and irrefutable. At its core, The War Prayer

Teen Dating Violence
What is Teen Dating Violence?
Teen Dating Violence (TDV) is described as the physical, emotional, or sexual abuse that occurs
within a relationship while dating. TDV can occur in person, or electronically by a current or
former partner (CDC, 2014). Many adolescents and adults are unaware of the prevalence of TDV
but a recent national study revealed that nearly 10% of adolescents have reported being hit,
slapped, or intentionally physically hurt by someone they had claimed to be dating (CDC, 2014).
About 20% of adult women who reported experiencing some form of intimate partner violence
(IPV) also reported experiencing TDV between the ages of 11 17 (CDC, 2014). Also, black
students experience TDV (14%) at a significantly higher rate than ... Show more content on

Some of the economic effects associated with IPV are as follows: employers lose between $3 5
billion dollars per year for increased medical costs of battered victims and businesses lose an
additional $100 million dollars in lost wages, sick days, and absenteeism. Also, nearly 2 million
workdays are lost to domestic violence annually and overall domestic violence costs the United
States $67 billion dollars, annually (NCADV, n.d.). IPV causes a huge lapse in profitability and
productivity.
Using Public Service Announcements to Address other Public HealthIssues Among Adolescents
Public service announcements have long been a tool of public health professionals and
organizations to prevent public health crises through awareness and instruction. For this
intervention, public service announcements via television and radio stations will be implemented
to bring about prevention of teen dating violence. Anti tobacco campaigns have utilized public
service announcements to campaign the detrimental effects of tobacco consumption as well as
raise awareness regarding cessation resources. In 2000, California held a media campaign that
accounted for a 2 3% reduction in the sales of cigarette packs. Despite the seemingly low effect of
media campaigning, it has been proven that each dollar invested in the anti tobacco advertising
results into a per capita decrease of 7.7 packs of cigarettes (Atkin,

Living Behind The Veil In Saudi Arabia
A veil is a piece of sheer material worn by women to conceal their faces, that very piece of
material symbolizes sacredness. In traditional Christian religion the veil is worn by the bride in
white on her wedding day as she approaches her groom at the alter. He uncovers her face at the
end of the ceremony and they kiss. Once that tradition is done the bride and the groom live their
lives together without her ever having to wear the veil again. However, In the Muslimreligion
predominantly in Saudi Arabiathe veil is also considered sacred, but used for different purposes.
For the women of Saudi Arabia wearing the veil is part of their everyday life. In fact it is
forbidden for them not to wear it, their veil is worn routinely. The women of Saudi should know
that living behind the veil is a form of abuse toward them. A life in front of the veil is more
enjoyable and liberating. Just because they walk in the street without their veil does not make
them promiscuous nor should they be punished for it. Living behind the veil may be all the
women of Saudi Arabia know, some may be comfortable with it, others afraid of the
consequences they will face for not wearing it. Either way they do not have much of a choice
since they are constantly chaperoned around by a male guardian know as a mahram , according to
theweek.co.uk 4 The guardian is often a male relative and will accompany women on all their
errands, including trips and visits to the doctor . Can you imagine having to go

Ultrafast Phase-Transition Dynamics Of Solid Case Study
Materials Science: ultrafast Phase transition dynamics in solid state
Breaking the limits of picosecond temporal resolution (600 fs) in electron diffraction
measurements were first reported in Siwick et al. [15]. This gave the access to the atomic
motion in the photo induced solid liquid phase transition (melting) process of Aluminum. In this
study, the long order change traced as a function of time. The 20 nm thick Al sample was excited
by a laser pulse fluence of 70 mJ/cm2. The long range order (present in the crystalline phase)
disappear and a short range atomic correlation (present in the liquid phase) were emerged which is
a clear indication of a complete phase translon process within 3.5 ps (Fig. 7a).
Moreover, the high brightness ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hence, Sciaini et al. [102] studied the structural changes in crystalline bismuth (Bi) as it undergoes
a phase transition (melting) due to laser excitation. The structure dynamics was probed by
conducting time resolved femtosecond electron diffraction. The time scale of this photo induced
melting was resolved from these measurements found to be in sub vibrational time scale (190 fs).
The author explained this fast melting transition due to the change in the potential energy surface
of the lattice, which causes a strong acceleration of the atoms along the longitudinal direction of the
lattice and efficient coupling of this motion to an unstable transverse vibrational mode. The
obtained diffraction dynamics curve showing the decay time of the crystalline Bi and the raising
curve of the liquid Bi phase is illustrated in Fig. 7c.
The improvement of the temporal resolution in UED to a few hundred femtoseconds ( illustrated in
(Fig. 2c). This development afforded the necessary atomic scale spatial and temporal resolutions to
study the phase transition and the related atomic motion of the solid state in real time and space.
Gedik et al. [63] studied the nonequilibrium phase transitions in cuprates (oxygen doped La_2
CuO_(4+Оґ)), which

Pardoners Tale, Chaucer, Canterbury Essays
The Pardoner s Subconscious Character
quot; The Pardoner s Tale, quot; by Geoffrey Chaucer, makes evident the parallel between the
internal emotions of people and the subconscious exposure of those emotions. This particular story,
from The Canterbury Tales, is a revealing talebeing told by a medieval pardoner to his companions
on a journey to Canterbury. Though the Pardoner s profession is to pardon and absolve the sins of
people, he actually lives in constant violation of sins such as gluttony, gambling, and, most
importantly, avarice. The Pardoner does feel guilt and advocates not to commit avarice; he
exclaims, quot; Radix malorum est Cupiditas, quot; (line 426) as his theme more than once.
Because he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The old man is the guide to spiritual and physical death, as is easily seen by the deaths of the
three rioters. Thus, the old man looks of death: quot;Lo how I vanysshe, flessh, and blood, and
skyn! quot; (Line 732). On the other hand, the Pardoner s profession is to absolve sinners and
steer them towards life; he guides people to spiritual and even physical life! Therefore, he
personifies all that is pure and innocent, such as a youthful and innocent boy. Both, with this
physical aid, do good jobs of preaching to people to get their desired results.
The eager minds of the people and the skill of the two preachers are what lead the people to
either life or death. It is obvious that the Pardoner does not actually use sacred relics to cure
anything: quot;Relikes been they, as wenen they echoon / Thanne have I in latoun a sholder
boon / Which that was of an hooly Jewes sheep. quot; (Lines 349 51). He has actually quot;cured
quot; those who come to him seeking salvation and pardon. This mindset, with the addition of the
Pardoner s great skill in making himself sound so innocent and pure, is what actually cures the
people. The people just need something tangible, like the fake relics, to hold on to and believe in
to be quot;cured quot;. Again, the same is true for the old man. The three rioters that come to him
are already in search of and eager to find Death, as opposed to life or salvation. When the old man
points them in the right

Christina Rossetti
Christina Rossetti, an English Victorian poet lived an early life full of hardships with her
relations. When she was seventeen years old a painter named James Collinson proposed to her.
She accepted, but later in 1850 she broke off the engagement because Collinson reverted to
Catholicism. She refused a second proposal from linguist Charles Bagot Cayley for his religious
beliefs, and also a third from the painter John Brett. In addition to her relationships, earlier Rossetti
s father had been diagnosed with tuberculosis and depression before his death in 1854, forcing the
entire family to work to pay off the financial vacuum he had left (poetryfoundation.org). Rossetti
herself suffered from ill mental health, and she frequently used poetryas an outlet for her problems,

Throughout the poem, Rossetti utilizes imagery to demonstrate the superficial relationship between
two lovers and likens it to the two gazing into a pool. In the beginning, the narrator says that both
were not hand in hand, yet heart in heart, I think (3). By using the two physical people as a
metaphor for the relationship between them, the speaker describes it as heart in heart yet not hand
and hand , which demonstrates the lack of absolute commitment in their relationship. The I think at
the end also serves a diction purpose, added into the line to question if the two ever were heart in
heart , again reflective of the

Consequences Of The Indian Removal Act
The Indian Removal Act was a law signed by Andrew Jackson stating to provide for an exchange
of lands with the Indians residing in any of the states or territories, and for their removal west of
the river Mississippi, to make room for the white population to grow and become prosperous. This
would mean that the Native Americans would lose their land and be forced to leave the graves of
their fathers to walk thousands of miles into their new territory. Nonetheless, this act would cause
thousands of Native American civilized tribes such as the creek, cherokee, chickasaw, and choctaw
tribes to lose their lives and the dangerous journey filled with demise would later be called the
Trail of Tears. I believe this act was unlawful, illegal and unconstitutional due to the fact that
Jackson organized it because he despised the Native Americans. He merely saw them as people
who could not adjust to the ways of the white man or act in a civilized manner.
Jackson stated in his letter to congress that the general government kindly offers him a new home,
and proposes to pay the whole expense of his removal and settlement ,however, this does not
justify tearing the indians of their homes. If you were to put yourself in the position of the Natives
you would come to the realization that they were just people trying to make a simple and honest
living. Yet, Jackson loathed them since they did not live a refined live, instead they followed their
own traditions and customs. What Jackson

People with this disorder have growth issues. They also have round faces with full cheeks,
hypertelorism, epicanthal folds, and apparently low set ears .Most cases of cri du chat
syndrome are not inherited. The deletion occurs most often as a random event during the
forming of the reproductive cells or in the early fetal development. Affected people typically
have no history of the disorder in their family. 1 of every 50,000 babies are diagnosed at birth
with Cri du Chat. All races are equally likely to develop this syndrome. It is more likely in
females by a 4:3 ratio. In recent studies it was discovered that the application of genetic
molecular methods introduced advances in the diagnosis and typification of the cri du chat
syndrome. There is no cure nor treatment for this because it s a chromosome deletion problem.
Children with this syndrome have poor fine and gross motor skills. To help with this issue you
can take physical ,occupational, and speech therapy. This will help with walking,
writing, speech, and more. Women are fertile and can deliver affected offspring, with an estimated
recurrence risk of 50%. Recurrence for a de novo case is 1% or

The Athletes Have The Opportunity For Garner Media...
SITUATION ANALYSIS Olympic athletes have the opportunity to garner media attention only
once every four years. Additionally female athletes, unlike their male counterparts, are rarely
celebrated for their athleticism, which decreases their opportunities further. However, the
national media has a strong desire to showcase Olympic hopefuls with captivating personal
stories. Media outlets seek to tell stories of individuals who triumph over adversity. Sage
Donnelly has an online presence but her website and social media platforms do not do enough to
tell the story of her path to the Olympics. Her online presence succeeds in providing general
information about her but does not allow opportunities for current and potential fans to share in
her journey by staying in touch, providing feedback, or simply offer encouragement. Generating
more engagement with her fans, sports journalists, diabetics, and devotees of the sport of
kayaking will help attract story ideas about her and her Olympic journey. Highlighting her
compelling story for a general audience, Donnelly can earn more media coverage and recognition
that would otherwise go to Olympic hopefuls who are more aggressive in promoting themselves.

struggles she has overcome to become a leading female athlete in her sport. Without a more

America Needs the Affordable Care Act
According to Newsweek, the University Medical Center on average has about $100,000 dollars a
month in unpaid doctor s visits and operations and special procedures; this burden gets passed on
to the County taxpayer (Johnson). Unpaid bills occur due to people taken to the hospital and either
do not have, or have very poor health insurance. The current process is not fair to anyone, whether
one has no health insuranceor one who has paid for it. Under the Patient Protection and Affordable
Care Act, otherwise referred to as Obamacare, signed into law on March 23, 2010, this requires all
Americans to purchase health insurance. The purchase of this care is purchased either individually
or through the government market place. The act will lower... Show more content on

Romneycare requires everyone to get health insurance through the state market place. Both this
law, and the Affordable Care Act require businesses to cover all full time employees. Also, both
laws make dropping an individual due of preexisting conditions illegal. Since 2006 almost 90%
of Massachusites are insured, and since 2006 Massachusetts has had surpluses in its budget
(Kolesnikova). With this extra money, public service projects were preformed such as restoring
the I93 tunnel and the Leonard P. Zakim Bunker Hill Memorial Bridge. On a personal level, the
law helps individuals and families who are struggling with money. Mary Flynn who has asthma
normally paid $60 a month for her inhaler, after her insurance dropped her because of the asthma,
she went to apply for RomneyCare. I felt like they threw me a lifeline, she said, adding that her
inhaler now costs her just $3.50 a month. It s the best insurance I ve ever had (Kolesnikova).
This state law, if properly administered on a federal level, would have similar positive affects
nationally. Despite all the benefits The Affordable Care Act gives to people, some people
believe this law is socialism, and unlawfully forces people to buy health insurance. In 1935 FDR
passed Social Security; his critics called this creeping socialism . If Social Security were true

Funeral Oration And Pericles Funeral Oration
On the other hand, Pericles Funeral Oration is a celebration of Athenian Democracy. Despite being
a general, Pericles held considerable influence over the political system and his Funerary Oration
displays his support for the democratic system while also giving himself credit for his own personal
achievements for the state. During his oration, Pericles focuses on the different aspects that make
the Athenian culture superior to both their allies and rival city states; and he concludes that Athens
as a whole is a lesson for Greece. He does not only believe his bragging statements are his opinion,
but also states that the truth in his declarations are evident by the character of the citizens and the
power of Athens. The Funeral Oration honors those who have passed in the war, but Pericles also
uses it as an opportunity to highlight Athenian customs, government, and way of life as the reasons
for their military success.
While his perspective of the government is positive, he does acknowledge the problems Pseudo
Xenophon has with democracy. One of the Pseudo Xenophon s main concern is the ignorance of
the mass and their inability to serve in public office since such practices do not produce the best
city, but they are the best way of preserving democracy. Pericles revitalizes the trust that Pseudo
Xenophon lacks in the masses of the common citizen. Pericles states the virtues of the
democracy and the ideal that no one is held back by poverty or because his reputation is not well
known, as long as he can do good service to the city. While acknowledging the potential issues of
having an ignorant representative, Pericles supports that trust in fellow citizens is a building
block in democracy and everyone who has the potential to prove themselves a good public
servant should be given the opportunity to show their ability and voice their ideas. He also
addresses Pseudo Xenophon s issues with the common people s rule of self interest. Pseudo
Xenophon does not have an issue with the self interest of the few overriding the self interest of the
many and even refers to it as an excellent system [where] the common people would very soon lose
all their political rights. Pericles does not differentiate

Scar Of Smallpox Essay
The Scars of Smallpox
In a letter to Patrick Henry in 1777, George Washington wrote of Small Pox I know that it is more
destructive to an army in the natural way than the sword . At times the most minute things have the
most immense impact on our lives, such was the smallpox Epidemic of 1775. It is not known how
or where the outbreak began, but by 1775 it was raging through Boston. The devastation of
Smallpox during 1775 played a key role in the outcome of the revolutionary war and in shaping
modern medicine and how we handle diseases. But these medical advances didn t come without
terrible sacrifice. Nearly 30% of people living in the Americas or 130,658 would succumb to

The practice of Inoculation is used to prevent a more serious infection by introducing a small
amount of disease into the body to build immunity. The individual may be slightly ill but after
the fight off the disease the person will be entirely immune to the disease. In 1776 Edward
Jenner, a british scientist had a revelation. He noticed Cowpox, which is similar to Smallpox but
not as deadly, protected the dairy maids from Smallpox if they contracted the disease from their
cows. Cow Pox caused small blisters to form, and a low grade fever but nothing worse. The
Cowpox virus was close enough in structure to Smallpox that the antibodies made by the infected
person successfully defended against the 25 75% lethal Smallpox virus. Jenner hit upon the idea
of breaking open a Cowpox blister on a cow and scratching the liquid inside into the arm of a
person. He found that this, indeed did give the person Cowpox. Now all he had to do was to place
the person next to someone with Smallpox and see if his theory was correct, were they immune. I

uses a simplistic logo and builds brand identity through its projection of the company as a cheaper
and more convenient alternative to larger razor brands. Dollar Shave Club s brandname helps
consumers identify the brand in a sea of razor brands dominated by companies like Gillette,
Schick, Bic, and others. Dollar Shave Club s brand name is able to attract consumers by
appealing to potential consumers who may value price. Dollar Shave Club is also the only
brand of razor the uses its brand name to reference the prices of its razor cartridges. Competing
brands like Gillette are able to use their brand name to attract consumers who value a brand that
is established and has been in control of the market for consistent period of time, but those brand
names can also lead a manufacturer to charge razor cartridges at a premium. Dollar Shave Club s
name plays a key role in establishing the company s brand identity. Dollar Shave Club uses its
brand name to build a strong brand identity. Dollar Shave Club consistently tries to identify itself
as the value oriented alternative to more expensive razor brands. In order to develop brand loyalty,
Dollar Shave Club also establishes a brand identity that is meant to echo the concerns of its
customers. By referring to their own razor as

Christine Fleming Essay
Have you at any point considered how specialists see our heart functioning? Christine Fleming is
building up another capable device for cardiologists to utilize: high resolution real time movies of

Fleming s creation utilizes optical lucidness tomography (OCT), a craftsmanship that catches three

Blocking Gmo s A Crime Against Humanity
Blocking GMO s A Crime Against Humanity One of the most controversial topics of our time is
GM technology (GMO). Is it safe or not? The emotive nature of this topic is justified considering
the fact that food is paramount to human well being; all claims should be carefully examined.
However, modern scientific studies contradict commonly held opinions opposing GMO s which
are in fact founded on myths and misinformation. There are currently 2000 peer reviewed reports
which document the safety and wholesomeness of GM foods. (Genera.2014) My goal in this
paper is to help open dialogs between activists and the scientific community. Green activists and
privileged world citizens deny life and health to millions when they block the progress and use
of genetic modification. To achieve this goal, I have organized my paper into four sections and
two sub sections. I will begin with and brief description and summary of GMO s and the
scientific consensus on the safety and efficacy of this technology, public opinion that contradicts
the science community and the origins of misinformation. Next I will talk about why GMO s are
a major component in solving food insecurity, death, sickness and poverty. In the third section of
this paper involves the efforts of green campaigners who undermine science and block GMO
technology. To conclude, I will provide examples of the reality of food insecurity worldwide and
highlight one significant area to focus resolution efforts, Golden Rice. I

Biblical Differences From The Noah s Ark Story In The Bible
Noah s Ark displays many differences from the Noah s Ark story in the bible. Although this is a
very good movie it does not follow the same storyline as the biblical story. There are many
examples throughout this film that is in the biblical version, however there lies many differences.
Many people looked at this movie and thought it was the exact same as the story in the bible. This
has become a very controversial topic for Christians specially.
As far as the book here are some key elements in the story. In the bible the rainbow is presented as a
heavenly sign or a sign of God. This also goes for the flood. The flood was a sign of God in the
bible. Noah s role in the bible story is to preserve all of the living things. God told him he was
sending a flood and Noah was to build up an ark and preserve the life that was about to be wiped
out completely by the flood God was sending. In the bible Noah didn t grab the animals and put
them on this ark they came on their own. Noah was there to attend them, but he did not physically
grab them and put them on this ark.
In the movie however some of these things differ. Not all of the biblical events were followed in
order. One of the small things that was out of place is when the birds were sent out. In the bible
the birds are sent out by Noah after they reached the mountain. In the film Noah s son sends out the
birds before they even reach the mountain. The movie was so out of the time line. They didn t even
follow the same as the

Self Regulation And Effective Learning Essay
Much research has shown the necessity for students to learn the behaviors that make up self
regulation to learn successfully and be most effective in their personal and professional lives. Self
regulation refers to one s ability to monitor their own behaviors, assess those behaviors based on
their own standards, and provide punishments and reinforcements for those behaviors accordingly.
In the experience of these authors, students increasingly enter classes lacking essential behaviors
necessary for self regulation and effective learning. Instructors must first understand self regulation
and how it affects the learning process, as well as provide students the necessary tools to achieve
self regulation; however, these authors believe the path to self regulation begins from the first
moment of contact with students. A classroom environment in which students feel comfortable,
clearly understand expectations and receive timely responses allows students to gain confidence
and trust the instructor. This type of environment sets the tone for the instructor then to share,
model and shape strategies in students leading to self regulation.
Introduction Social learning theory introduced the crucial concept of self regulation, which refers
to the ability to monitor one s own behavior, judge the behavior based on one s own standards, and
institute consequences of reinforcement or punishment. The ability to self regulate is made of
many strategies that once learned, can be

Polit Beck s Reliability
Polit Beck (2014) state reliability is the consistency with which an instrument measures the
attribute (p.202). The less variation in repeated measurements, the more reliable the tool is (Polit
Beck, 2014, p.202). A reliable tool also measures accuracy in that it needs to capture true scores;
an accurate tool maximizes the true score component and minimizes the error component (Polit
Beck, 2014). Reliable measures need to be stable, consistent, and equal. Stability refers to the
degree to which similar results are obtained on separate occasions (Polit Beck, 2014, p.202).
Internal consistency refers to the extent that its items measure the same trait (Polit Beck, 2014, p.
203). Equivalence refers to the extent to which two or more independent observers or coders agree
about scoring an instrument (Polit Beck, 2014, p.204).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
205). Like reliability, validity has several aspects including face validity, content validity, criterion
related validity, and construct validity (Polit Beck, 2014). Face validity refers to whether an
instrument looks as though it is measuring the appropriate construct (Polit Beck, 2014, p.205).
Content validity regards the degree to which an instrument has an appropriate sample of items for
the construct being measured (Polit Beck, 2014). Criterion related validity examines the
relationships between scores on an instrument and an external criterion; the instrument is valid if its
scores correspond strongly with scores on the criterion (Polit Beck, 2014). Construct validity most
concerns quality and measurements; the questions most often asked are What is this instrument
really measuring? And Does it validly measure the abstract concept of interest? (Polit Beck, 2014,

VAP is a growing problem in health care facilities which increases the cost of patient care and
increases patient care time, hospital length of stay, and patient morbidity. Ventilator associated
pneumonia increases healthcare costs by more than $40,000 per hospitalized patient (Lisboa,
Kollef, Rello, 2008). Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services plan to stop paying hospitals
for necessary care caused by preventable complications including nosocomial infections resulting
in unintended fiscal circumstances (Lisboa et al.). 2 The Centers for Disease Control (CDC)
established recommended guidelines to decrease the risk of VAP. It is these best practice
interventions that nurses should follow when caring for mechanically ventilated patients. The 2003
CDC guidelines reported that 63% of admitted patients in the ICU have oral colonization
associated with a pathogen resulting from VAP (Cason, Tyner, Saunders, Broome, 2007). The
CDC provided a set of seven guidelines to reduce risks related to hand washing, wearing gloves,
suctioning, elevated head of bed (HOB), education, oral hygiene program, and use of antiseptic
rinse. Studies suggested that best practices for reducing VAP were not consistently implemented.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and gram positive
Staphylococcus aureus were the two most common bacteria linked to VAP (Babcock et al., 2004).

Authority In The Crucible By Arthur Miller
Authority is defined as the power or right to give orders, make decisions, and enforce obedience.
People who possess this power are usually kings, presidents, priests, and any person that has power
over another in a particular sphere. Authority is usually is given to one by the majority, the people.
Examples of the nature of authoritycan be found in The Crucible. Written by Arthur Miller The
Crucible is a response to McCarthyism in the United States. Set in 1962 during the Salem witch
trial hysteria in Salem, Massachusetts, the Crucible exposes McCarthyism as a lie based on mass
hysteria. Major characters in the play that had played the most significant part on the effects of the
witch trial were all authority figures. The majority people... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In the play, Parris is more concerned about his reputation, money, and power than he is with the
justice for the accused victims. He is more upset about his niece and Mercy Lewis running off
with his all of his money rather than being concerned and suspicious about their sudden
disappearance. About the personality of his character, it is said:Another way that the power of
authority can be shown throughout the play is through the power of the court that ruled and
decided who was to be persecuted and declared a witch. The people of Salem in the play had a
tremendous fear in the court. The courts authority is what caused them to have a fear in the court.
The people of Salem knew that speaking out against the actions of the court will get jailed or
killed. The nature of authority can be seen here as something that scares the people because of their
power and the magnitude that they may have over the people. During the play many people where
charged and accused of witchcraft. It had gotten to the point where their where stray animals and
orphans wandering the street because their masters and parents had been jailed on witchcraft
accusations. This collapse of the Salem community shows how the court had authority and power to

My Dad s Job At Texas
I bolted out of the house and ran into the car as fast as my legs could carry me. I dropped my
suitcase in the trunk of the car. I slammed the door and fell onto the backseat of the car. As I look
out of the window, my heart is beating at one hundred miles an hour. This is actually happening.
My family and I were moving from Boston, Massachusetts to Houston, Texas. My Dad s job was
relocating to Houston, Texas because of better resources for the company. I was going to have a
new house, new friends, and a new school. Everything was going to be new and different. Sadly,
moving is not as fun and exciting as it seems. It s as sad as a kid without candy. I m on my way

new place, a new home, a new state. I feel like a turtle without its shell. I think to myself as all
my memories of living in Boston flash before my eyes. I think about all the snow that has fallen in
my yard, and how much snow I am going to miss considering the fact that there is no snow in
Houston. I also think about all my familyand friends I am leaving behind. I m going to miss Boston
so much. As I look out of the car window for the last time, everything looks blurry, and unclear, my
eyes fill with tears. A tear runs down my cheek, and soon, many more tears follow it. I feel like a
baby that is cryingbecause it is hungry. My stomach is churning and my heart is beating at one

The Statue Of Liberty At Ellis Island
America is a melting pot of culture. The statue of liberty at Ellis Island has welcomed hundreds of
thousands of immigrants into this country since the early 1900s. Although the immigrant families
knew it was important to learn the American language and American culture, they also wanted to
keep alive their rich heritage and pass it onto their children. This was often a struggle as their
children attended American schools and picked up on the American culture ways quicker than their
elder parents. Often these children, especially the teenagers, would struggle with embarrassment
over the ways their familywas different from other American families. One author who wrote about
this struggle was Amy Tan.

This was what inspired her to write stories about the relationships between Chinese women and
their Chinese American daughters. In the narrative Fish Cheeks , Amy Tan shares a story of young
love which reveals the conflict of shame and pride that she felt about her Chinese heritage.
The narrative begins by telling how a young Chinese girl has a crush on the minister s son,
Robert who is American. When the daughter finds out her parents have invited the minister and
his family over to eat, she starts to panic. All she could think was, What would Robert think of
our shabby Chinese Christmas? What would he think of our noisy Chinese relatives who lacked
proper American manners? What terrible disappointment would he feel upon seeing not a
roasted turkey and sweet potatoes but Chinese food? Here is where Amy Tan first hints at the
shame she has about her culture. She was already embarrassed before the dinner even happened.
Tan continues to provide a vivid image of the special meal her mother has prepared. For example
she describes the fish as a slimy rock cod with bulging eyes , and she makes the fish seem almost
human as it pleads not to be dropped into the hot oil. Tan uses a simile to describe the tofu. Tofu,
which looked like stacked wedges of rubbery white sponges. Tan compares the markings on the

Marketing, Lip balm is becoming something more like a gum product that brightens up consumers
[and] you re starting to see a lot more of what I would call personality driven and lifestyle focused
advertising, and we re focused on the flavours as a way to reinforce the fun aspect of the brand .
(Oster, 2014) Though lip balm is defined as a convenience good due to its high distribution and
accessibility, the mindset consumers have now resembles the higher involvement needed for
shopping products (i.e. quality, style, and most importantly, suitability.)
These three samples from their marketing campaign all reinforce this perception. Yes, people need
lipbalm to moisturize their lips, but they want a lipbalm that reflects their inner self. Its TV ads
and print ads feature beautiful, intricate ways of showing off the personalities of the individual lip
balms. The Vines do the same by weaving in music. In none of these three samples do they mention

One of the key factors in crafting a persuasive piece of rhetoric is tailoring your message to the
specific audience. This information will help you decide what sorts of facts to incorporate into
your rhetoric as well as help you determine which means of persuasion would be the most
effective to employ. Your evidence. When planning your speech or writing, collect any and
every type of evidence you can find. Evidence could be facts, statistics, laws, and individual
testimonies. It s always good to have a nice blend, but remember different audiences are

Elmer Boyd Staats and the Pursuit of Good Government
Kathe Callahan
Public Administration Review: March/April 2006; 66, 2; ProQuest
Callahan s Administrative profile of Elmer Boyd Staats, provides a summary of the transformative
organizational changes under Staats leadership during his fifteen year appointment as the head of
the General Accounting Office. Addressing what Callahan identifies as the pursuit of good
government. Elmer Boyd Staats embarked on a career as a public servant spanning six plus
decades. During this time, Staats public service to our country encompassed ten administrations
His formative years were shaped by growing up during the depression and living in the Kansas
wheat belt (Callahan, p.160, para 1). His Midwest education, and pursuit of a career in public
service was not something Staats envisioned, however, his collegiate back ground where Staats

presented itself, during President Johnson s Great Society Program. Congress wanted to gage the
performance of government programs. The GAO, set about examining all of the anti poverty

programs worked, others provided little change, and programs that made the problem worst. All of

20 Health Benefits of Drinking Wine is presented by
Shyam Gokarn
June 2009
Advice for Today The information in this article is for educational purposes only. Wine should be
enjoyed in a responsible manner as part of a well balanced lifestyle by healthy adults who choose
to drink. If you drink alcoholic beverages, do so in moderation, with meals, and when consumption
does not put you or others at risk.
Is wine good for you? In moderation and as part of an overall healthy diet, the short answer is, yes!
However, the amount of wine you drink matters tremendously. Don t drink too much, but then
again, don t drink too little. In moderation, a glass or two can help your heart, prevent cancer and
more. Here is good ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The recent wealth of data should give us more confidence in a cause and effect relationship, but
we are not nearly to the point of proof. It took decades and hundreds of studies before the Surgeon
General was willing to declare that smoking causes cancer.] But it has been less clear just how
alcohol works to protect the body against heart disease and death. A new study from researchers at
the University Hospital of Zurich, Switzerland. identifies a mechanism for how alcohol favorably
effects arterial muscle cells. According to Wilhelm Vetter, M.D., and colleagues, alcohol, when
consumed around mealtime, reduces the proliferation of smooth muscle cells (SMC) within the
arteries. SMC growth is a key element in the development of atherosclerosis, which commonly leads
to heart attacks and strokes.
The study found that the ingestion of alcohol equivalent to two glasses of wine with a high fat
meal resulted in a 20% decrease in the growth of arterial muscle cells. Several researchers have
suggested that the apparent health benefits of wine ingested at mealtime may be due to the ability
of alcohol and other phenolic compounds in wine to counter adverse effects of fatty foods during
the critical digestive phase. Renaud has written of the positive effect of wine during meals on
platelet aggregation, finding that wine consumed with meals is absorbed more slowly and thus has
a prolonged effect on blood

What difference will it make to investors and creditors if after the acquisition the acquiring
company has long term liabilities exceeding $4 billion and equity of about $500 million? Will the
company be able to cover the debt service? How can you know? How significant will the next
several interim financial statements be? What is the current position of this company? Some
companies in the past used leverage advantageously. In a similar situation, a major retailer filed
under the bankruptcy laws. The company s stock currently trades at about 6.5 time earnings. What
factors entered into this price earnings ratio? Consider the two cases which have just been
presented. If you were an investor in these companies, how would you evaluate this information?
What action might you take? Are there any significant factors about the financial statements of
these companies you might want to examine more thoroughly? To interpret this information, a
serious investor or creditor must be able to read, interpret, and analyze financial statements.

Multiculturalism in the United States Essay
Colleges and universities should emphasize the diverse culture we live in. This position can be
validated through the passages written by Mike Rose s Lives on the Boundary and Adrienne
Rich s What Does a Woman Need to Know. The following two quotes exemplify Mr. Rose s and
Ms. Rich s point of view illustrating this topic. A quote from Mike Roseaffirms We are in the
middle of an extraordinary social experiment: the attempt to provide education for all members of
a vast pluralistic democracy. (Rose, 117) In another quote Ms. Rich states, For no woman is really
an insider in the institutions fathered by masculine consciousness. (Rich, 69) Our society is made

This means a significant part of the curriculum is out of reach for many of these immigrants.
Classical literature such as Shakespeare, Homer, and Faulkner, to name a few, have become the
customary literature books used in schools. American education, in many cases, has denied our
diverse population the use of these great books. Many students struggle with classical literature
because it is irrelevant in their lives. Classical literature must be taught with student s diversity in
mind. If a person is not from the Dominant Culture, he or she will have little or no interest in the
great books described above since these books were written for and by this culture.
Motivating the diverse culture of students in today s schools requires sparking their interest. Social
historian Elizabeth Ewen wrote it is what we are excited about that educates us. (Rose, 106) Mike
Rose became interested in the classics, or great books, through Jack McFarland, a high school
teacher. Mr. McFarland influenced Rose through accepting him, developing a relationship with him,
and being understanding. With such diversity in our schools, educators must have a basic
understanding of their students background and skill levels in order to better explain and teach the
students of different backgrounds within their classrooms.
Diversity in our society is here to stay. Therefore educational systems need to find innovative ways

George Orwell
I think it would be difficult to find someone of an acceptable age who had not heard of George
Orwell. At least one of his books used to be required reading at some point during high school,
and I remember reading excerpts of at least two more. I am not sure if that is still the case, but I
have always thought, since the release of the three ring television circus Big Brother, that he (and
his writing) must have had a huge impact on the premise of the show. In the novel, 1984, the
premise is that the police are always watching, and have a hand in everything, just as the public

Police, at the request of his parents, who needed him to become more self sufficient. Although

His pen name, and how he created it, was interesting to me. Per the website, in 1933, He chose a

Humans have Engangered the Columbia River Limpet
The Columbia River Limpet, otherwise known as the Short faced Lanx, is endangered due to
human causes. This species is endangered due to population fragmentation and isolation, dam
building, and many other human causes. In addition, habitat loss is one of the biggest problems
because this organism has such specific habitat requirements. This species lives in a freshwater
ecosystem and now, large populations can only be found in 4 streams. On the other hand, these
human induced problems can be remedied with a few restrictions, support, and a little effort. The
scientific name of this organism is Fisherola Nuttalli. The Columbia RiverLimpet is a small lunged
(pulmonate) snail. According to an article by Celeste Mazzacano at the Xerces Society for
Invertebrate Conservation (http://www.xerces.org/giant columbia river limpet/), It has a limpet
like appearance, with an uncoiled conical shell that has a wide base and a smooth, eccentric (off
center) apex. The shells may reach up to 8 mm long, 6.25 mm wide, and 3 mm high; they are
rich brown in color and appear striped due to fine concentric growth rings (Neitzel Frest 1992).
This organism is known as an invertebrate due to the lack of a backbone. Invertebrates lack a
vertebral column, which is made up of bones called vertebrae. The scientific name for animals
lacking a backbone is Invertebrata. On the other hand, animals with a backbone are known as
vertebrates, the scientific name being Vertebrata. There are over 1

The Statement Of Teaching Philosophy
My Philosophy
Introduction
The statement of teaching philosophy (also called the teaching statement or teaching philosophy
statement) promotes reflective practice by encouraging instructors to describe their teaching
methods, to justify why they use those methods, to analyze the effectiveness of those methods, and
to consider how they might appropriately modify those methods in future courses. (Schönwetter et
al., 2002) Stake holder motivation, engagement, cognitive associations, and personal values are the
principal elements of education. The attainment of knowledge, standards mastery, and the ability to
reason come second to a student s overall well being. Elements of behaviorism, essentialism,
progressivism, existentialism and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, many first drafts include general statements about learning goals as well as teaching
practices. (Kearns Sullivan, 2011) Teachers are encouraged to systematically change declarative
statements about their passion for teaching moments in the classroom that speak of learning goals
and personal qualities. It is through reflection of experiences that teachers can build personal
expectations of themselves.
Review of the Literature Within a framework of teaching, educators focus on the nature of
knowledge and how students gain that knowledge. There are five established, major educational
philosophies. They are behaviorism, essentialism, progressivism, existentialism and perennialism.
These philosophies greatly focus on what should be taught. Behavioral learning theories are simply
explained as reinforcing behaviors one would like to see repeated. Slavin states, Reinforcement will
increase the frequency of a behavior with positive or negative consequences. (2012, p. 120) The
student environment impacts student decisions and learning. Positive reinforcement is the
application of a stimulus. Negative reinforcement is the application of a punishment. The role of
teachers in behavioral learning theories is to provide immediate and concise feedback of behaviors.
Teachers should provide tasks with small,

Teaching sex educational subject at school should be done or not A review on philosophical and
educational perspective
Abstract
The issue of incorporating sex education in schools of Malaysia is still debatable. Some parents
think sex education in school is essential to Malaysian youths to reduce sexual related social
problems. While a greater section of people still believe that it is unnecessary to slot in sex
education as a separate subject in schools, as rudiments of sex education in schools are already
included in a subject called social and reproductive health studies. Though it has been introduced
indirectly to Malaysian Secondary School and Primary School few years back, but ... Show more

In Malaysia, the Cabinet ministry has permitted to introduce reproductive and social health
education in the school curriculum after years of consideration. 160 pages of guidelines were
produced by Ministries of Education and Women, Family and Community Development. The
guidelines covered varied topics related to sexuality which included topics like contraception, kind
of touching that is permitted, risks of online predators, teenage crushes, sexual orientation and HIV/
AIDS.
Malaysia is at present moving more into a superior and more urbanized territory. Equivalent to
development and evolutions, several challenges should not be overlooked such as gap in family
relationships and separation as well as societal and environmental problems. Regrettably, children
and teenagers are among the most susceptible and exposed to these kind ill challenges and threats.
The subject and its impact on children and young folk are of main concern at present to the
Malaysian government such as increasing rate of HIV/AIDS , escalated reporting of sexual
violence against children and adolescents with sexual abuse, juvenile crimes and many more. In
such a situation, parents need to take part in their roles to furnish their children with sex education.
Though, commonly parents are rarely seen as sex educators of the children because they are
unwilling to discuss sex related topics with their children.

The Human Resource Development Policy Of Kenya
Definition of induction
According to the Human Resource Development policy of Kenya (2015), induction is defined as a
process of receiving and orientating/ familiarizing a new employee to an organization s work
procedures and environment (HRD, 2015). In teaching industry, Ajowi et al., (2011) defined
induction as a fundamental process of settling newly appointed teachers into a new work
environment. It is intended to effectively introduce newly appointed teachers to the work
procedures, rules and regulations, as well as assist them to adapt quickly to teaching.
The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development in the UK defines induction as, the process
where employees adjust or acclimatize to their jobs and working environment. As part of this,
orientation is used for a specific course or training event that new starters attend, and socialization
can describe the way in which new employees build up working relationships and find roles for
themselves within their new teams. Some people use the term onboarding to cover the whole
process from an individual s contact with the organization before they formally join, through to
understanding the business ways of working and getting up to speed in their new job. (Chris, 2015).
According to the CIDP, every organization, large or small, should have a well considered induction
programme. It should provide all the information that new employees need, without overwhelming
or diverting them from the essential process of

  • 4. Mark Twain s The Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn And The... Mark Twain, American humorist and novelist, captured a world audience with stories of boyhood adventure and with commentary on man s shortcomings that is humorous even while it probes, often bitterly, the roots of human behavior. His writing, Shelley Fisher Fishkin who is one of the leading scholars on the work of Mark Twainin American culture and literature observes, involves an entreaty to rethink, reevaluate and reformulate the terms in which one defines both personal and national identity. Twain hoped to coax us out of our timid and suspicious privacy and into recognition of human equality and of the dignity of self governing citizenship. Evidently at odds with so much of established opinion, this high aim was only another reason... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In The War Prayer Twain argues against the philosophy of imperialism. This essay was written in 1900 s when America was caught up in the idea of imperialism and extending its influence to other countries using military prowess. He reveals that praying for success in war is also praying for the defeat of another nation. He questions what exactly the people are praying for. Even though it appears that the people are praying for the safety of their soldiers, in the end it can be concluded that they are praying for destruction of another civilization. But the argument does not stop here: the last line of the essay says, It was believed afterward that the man was a lunatic, because there was no sense in what he said (Twain, 682). After bringing forth the harm caused by war, the aged stranger is dismissed as a lunatic. The characters sheer ignorance leads them to believe that God s messenger, who has posed these questions, must be just an insane old man thus illuminating the public opinion in the early 90s. The sentences in The War Prayer are lean, accelerated, cadenced, and charged with imagery. The premise on which their authority depends in this case, that official and religious can t conceal seeds of their abominable corollaries is self evident and irrefutable. At its core, The War Prayer ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Teen Dating Violence What is Teen Dating Violence? Teen Dating Violence (TDV) is described as the physical, emotional, or sexual abuse that occurs within a relationship while dating. TDV can occur in person, or electronically by a current or former partner (CDC, 2014). Many adolescents and adults are unaware of the prevalence of TDV but a recent national study revealed that nearly 10% of adolescents have reported being hit, slapped, or intentionally physically hurt by someone they had claimed to be dating (CDC, 2014). About 20% of adult women who reported experiencing some form of intimate partner violence (IPV) also reported experiencing TDV between the ages of 11 17 (CDC, 2014). Also, black students experience TDV (14%) at a significantly higher rate than ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some of the economic effects associated with IPV are as follows: employers lose between $3 5 billion dollars per year for increased medical costs of battered victims and businesses lose an additional $100 million dollars in lost wages, sick days, and absenteeism. Also, nearly 2 million workdays are lost to domestic violence annually and overall domestic violence costs the United States $67 billion dollars, annually (NCADV, n.d.). IPV causes a huge lapse in profitability and productivity. Using Public Service Announcements to Address other Public HealthIssues Among Adolescents Public service announcements have long been a tool of public health professionals and organizations to prevent public health crises through awareness and instruction. For this intervention, public service announcements via television and radio stations will be implemented to bring about prevention of teen dating violence. Anti tobacco campaigns have utilized public service announcements to campaign the detrimental effects of tobacco consumption as well as raise awareness regarding cessation resources. In 2000, California held a media campaign that accounted for a 2 3% reduction in the sales of cigarette packs. Despite the seemingly low effect of media campaigning, it has been proven that each dollar invested in the anti tobacco advertising results into a per capita decrease of 7.7 packs of cigarettes (Atkin, ... • 6. Living Behind The Veil In Saudi Arabia A veil is a piece of sheer material worn by women to conceal their faces, that very piece of material symbolizes sacredness. In traditional Christian religion the veil is worn by the bride in white on her wedding day as she approaches her groom at the alter. He uncovers her face at the end of the ceremony and they kiss. Once that tradition is done the bride and the groom live their lives together without her ever having to wear the veil again. However, In the Muslimreligion predominantly in Saudi Arabiathe veil is also considered sacred, but used for different purposes. For the women of Saudi Arabia wearing the veil is part of their everyday life. In fact it is forbidden for them not to wear it, their veil is worn routinely. The women of Saudi should know that living behind the veil is a form of abuse toward them. A life in front of the veil is more enjoyable and liberating. Just because they walk in the street without their veil does not make them promiscuous nor should they be punished for it. Living behind the veil may be all the women of Saudi Arabia know, some may be comfortable with it, others afraid of the consequences they will face for not wearing it. • 7. Ultrafast Phase-Transition Dynamics Of Solid Case Study Materials Science: ultrafast Phase transition dynamics in solid state Breaking the limits of picosecond temporal resolution (600 fs) in electron diffraction measurements were first reported in Siwick et al. [15]. This gave the access to the atomic motion in the photo induced solid liquid phase transition (melting) process of Aluminum. In this study, the long order change traced as a function of time. The 20 nm thick Al sample was excited by a laser pulse fluence of 70 mJ/cm2. The long range order (present in the crystalline phase) disappear and a short range atomic correlation (present in the liquid phase) were emerged which is a clear indication of a complete phase translon process within 3.5 ps (Fig. 7a). Moreover, the high brightness ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hence, Sciaini et al. [102] studied the structural changes in crystalline bismuth (Bi) as it undergoes a phase transition (melting) due to laser excitation. The structure dynamics was probed by conducting time resolved femtosecond electron diffraction. The time scale of this photo induced melting was resolved from these measurements found to be in sub vibrational time scale (190 fs). The author explained this fast melting transition due to the change in the potential energy surface of the lattice, which causes a strong acceleration of the atoms along the longitudinal direction of the lattice and efficient coupling of this motion to an unstable transverse vibrational mode. The obtained diffraction dynamics curve showing the decay time of the crystalline Bi and the raising curve of the liquid Bi phase is illustrated in Fig. 7c. The improvement of the temporal resolution in UED to a few hundred femtoseconds ( illustrated in (Fig. 2c). This development afforded the necessary atomic scale spatial and temporal resolutions to study the phase transition and the related atomic motion of the solid state in real time and space. • 8. Pardoners Tale, Chaucer, Canterbury Essays The Pardoner s Subconscious Character quot; The Pardoner s Tale, quot; by Geoffrey Chaucer, makes evident the parallel between the internal emotions of people and the subconscious exposure of those emotions. This particular story, from The Canterbury Tales, is a revealing talebeing told by a medieval pardoner to his companions on a journey to Canterbury. Though the Pardoner s profession is to pardon and absolve the sins of people, he actually lives in constant violation of sins such as gluttony, gambling, and, most importantly, avarice. The Pardoner does feel guilt and advocates not to commit avarice; he exclaims, quot; Radix malorum est Cupiditas, quot; (line 426) as his theme more than once. Because he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The old man is the guide to spiritual and physical death, as is easily seen by the deaths of the three rioters. Thus, the old man looks of death: quot;Lo how I vanysshe, flessh, and blood, and skyn! quot; (Line 732). On the other hand, the Pardoner s profession is to absolve sinners and steer them towards life; he guides people to spiritual and even physical life! Therefore, he personifies all that is pure and innocent, such as a youthful and innocent boy. Both, with this physical aid, do good jobs of preaching to people to get their desired results. The eager minds of the people and the skill of the two preachers are what lead the people to either life or death. It is obvious that the Pardoner does not actually use sacred relics to cure anything: quot;Relikes been they, as wenen they echoon / Thanne have I in latoun a sholder boon / Which that was of an hooly Jewes sheep. quot; (Lines 349 51). He has actually quot;cured quot; those who come to him seeking salvation and pardon. This mindset, with the addition of the Pardoner s great skill in making himself sound so innocent and pure, is what actually cures the people. The people just need something tangible, like the fake relics, to hold on to and believe in to be quot;cured quot;. Again, the same is true for the old man. The three rioters that come to him are already in search of and eager to find Death, as opposed to life or salvation. When the old man points them in the right ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Christina Rossetti Christina Rossetti, an English Victorian poet lived an early life full of hardships with her relations. When she was seventeen years old a painter named James Collinson proposed to her. She accepted, but later in 1850 she broke off the engagement because Collinson reverted to Catholicism. She refused a second proposal from linguist Charles Bagot Cayley for his religious beliefs, and also a third from the painter John Brett. In addition to her relationships, earlier Rossetti s father had been diagnosed with tuberculosis and depression before his death in 1854, forcing the entire family to work to pay off the financial vacuum he had left (poetryfoundation.org). Rossetti herself suffered from ill mental health, and she frequently used poetryas an outlet for her problems, expressing her dilemmas through works of writing.... In the beginning, the narrator says that both were not hand in hand, yet heart in heart, I think (3). • 10. Consequences Of The Indian Removal Act The Indian Removal Act was a law signed by Andrew Jackson stating to provide for an exchange of lands with the Indians residing in any of the states or territories, and for their removal west of the river Mississippi, to make room for the white population to grow and become prosperous. This would mean that the Native Americans would lose their land and be forced to leave the graves of their fathers to walk thousands of miles into their new territory. Nonetheless, this act would cause thousands of Native American civilized tribes such as the creek, cherokee, chickasaw, and choctaw tribes to lose their lives and the dangerous journey filled with demise would later be called the Trail of Tears. I believe this act was unlawful, illegal and unconstitutional due to the fact that Jackson organized it because he despised the Native Americans. He merely saw them as people who could not adjust to the ways of the white man or act in a civilized manner. Jackson stated in his letter to congress that the general government kindly offers him a new home, and proposes to pay the whole expense of his removal and settlement ,however, this does not justify tearing the indians of their homes. If you were to put yourself in the position of the Natives you would come to the realization that they were just people trying to make a simple and honest living. Yet, Jackson loathed them since they did not live a refined live, instead they followed their own traditions and customs. What Jackson ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Affected people typically have no history of the disorder in their family. 1 of every 50,000 babies are diagnosed at birth with Cri du Chat. All races are equally likely to develop this syndrome. It is more likely in females by a 4:3 ratio. In recent studies it was discovered that the application of genetic molecular methods introduced advances in the diagnosis and typification of the cri du chat syndrome. There is no cure nor treatment for this because it s a chromosome deletion problem. Children with this syndrome have poor fine and gross motor skills. To help with this issue you can take physical ,occupational, and speech therapy. This will help with walking, writing, speech, and more. Despite being a general, Pericles held considerable influence over the political system and his Funerary Oration displays his support for the democratic system while also giving himself credit for his own personal achievements for the state. During his oration, Pericles focuses on the different aspects that make the Athenian culture superior to both their allies and rival city states; and he concludes that Athens as a whole is a lesson for Greece. He does not only believe his bragging statements are his opinion, but also states that the truth in his declarations are evident by the character of the citizens and the power of Athens. The Funeral Oration honors those who have passed in the war, but Pericles also uses it as an opportunity to highlight Athenian customs, government, and way of life as the reasons for their military success. While his perspective of the government is positive, he does acknowledge the problems Pseudo Xenophon has with democracy. One of the Pseudo Xenophon s main concern is the ignorance of the mass and their inability to serve in public office since such practices do not produce the best city, but they are the best way of preserving democracy. Pericles revitalizes the trust that Pseudo Xenophon lacks in the masses of the common citizen. Pericles states the virtues of the democracy and the ideal that no one is held back by poverty or because his reputation is not well known, as long as he can do good service to the city. While acknowledging the potential issues of having an ignorant representative, Pericles supports that trust in fellow citizens is a building block in democracy and everyone who has the potential to prove themselves a good public servant should be given the opportunity to show their ability and voice their ideas. He also addresses Pseudo Xenophon s issues with the common people s rule of self interest. Pseudo Xenophon does not have an issue with the self interest of the few overriding the self interest of the many and even refers to it as an excellent system [where] the common people would very soon lose all their political rights. Many people looked at this movie and thought it was the exact same as the story in the bible. This has become a very controversial topic for Christians specially. Self regulation refers to one s ability to monitor their own behaviors, assess those behaviors based on their own standards, and provide punishments and reinforcements for those behaviors accordingly. In the experience of these authors, students increasingly enter classes lacking essential behaviors necessary for self regulation and effective learning. Instructors must first understand self regulation and how it affects the learning process, as well as provide students the necessary tools to achieve self regulation; however, these authors believe the path to self regulation begins from the first moment of contact with students. A classroom environment in which students feel comfortable, clearly understand expectations and receive timely responses allows students to gain confidence and trust the instructor. This type of environment sets the tone for the instructor then to share, model and shape strategies in students leading to self regulation. The less variation in repeated measurements, the more reliable the tool is (Polit Beck, 2014, p.202). A reliable tool also measures accuracy in that it needs to capture true scores; an accurate tool maximizes the true score component and minimizes the error component (Polit Beck, 2014). Reliable measures need to be stable, consistent, and equal. Stability refers to the degree to which similar results are obtained on separate occasions (Polit Beck, 2014, p.202). One day the children throw rocks at Ms. Lottie s garden and taunt her. That night she hears her father sobbing, this combined with the guilt of mocking Ms. Lottie is too much for Lizabeth, and in a state of emotional unrest she runs to Ms. Lottie s garden and destroys it. This was often a struggle as their children attended American schools and picked up on the American culture ways quicker than their elder parents. This was what inspired her to write stories about the relationships between Chinese women and their Chinese American daughters. In the narrative Fish Cheeks , Amy Tan shares a story of young love which reveals the conflict of shame and pride that she felt about her Chinese heritage. The narrative begins by telling how a young Chinese girl has a crush on the minister s son, Robert who is American. When the daughter finds out her parents have invited the minister and his family over to eat, she starts to panic. All she could think was, What would Robert think of our shabby Chinese Christmas? What would he think of our noisy Chinese relatives who lacked proper American manners? What terrible disappointment would he feel upon seeing not a roasted turkey and sweet potatoes but Chinese food? Here is where Amy Tan first hints at the shame she has about her culture. She was already embarrassed before the dinner even happened. Tan continues to provide a vivid image of the special meal her mother has prepared. For example she describes the fish as a slimy rock cod with bulging eyes , and she makes the fish seem almost human as it pleads not to be dropped into the hot oil. Tan uses a simile to describe the tofu. Tofu, which looked like stacked wedges of rubbery white sponges. A new study from researchers at the University Hospital of Zurich, Switzerland. identifies a mechanism for how alcohol favorably effects arterial muscle cells. According to Wilhelm Vetter, M.D., and colleagues, alcohol, when consumed around mealtime, reduces the proliferation of smooth muscle cells (SMC) within the arteries. The study found that the ingestion of alcohol equivalent to two glasses of wine with a high fat meal resulted in a 20% decrease in the growth of arterial muscle cells. Several researchers have suggested that the apparent health benefits of wine ingested at mealtime may be due to the ability of alcohol and other phenolic compounds in wine to counter adverse effects of fatty foods during the critical digestive phase.
