The Byzantine Empire Essay
The Byzantine Empire
The Byzantine Empire, the survivor of the Roman empire, flourished into the oldest and longest
lasting empire in our history. It began with Constantine the Great s triumph of Christianity. He then
transferred his capital from Rome to the refounded Byzantium in the early 4th century, year 330
AD, and named it
Constantinople after himself. This city became the surviving safe spot after the breakup of the
Western Roman empireby the 5th century. It was by far the largest and richest city in Christendom
during the Middle Ages with a population of about one million people. (Encarta) Constantine the
Great had established a criterion for the empire to follow throughout its history. It included the

(Great Ages) The Greek language led to a Greek culture. The Byzantine empire stood out for their
Christian religion and their expression of it in their artwork.
These Romans carved exquisite ivories, illuminated manuscripts, and formed mosaics out of glass
and stone. Mosaics were pictures formed from these objects with the intent to stimulate profound
religious thought. The mood of these mosaics was always honoring and respectful of Christianity
and its components.
Another form of Christian expression was in the form of icons. These were parts of the Gospel
played out into visual pictures. The icons portrayed prayers, hymns, and sermons in color. These
too created a reverence for worshippers to follow. That was the first goal of icons. The second goal
was to form an existential link between themselves as worshippers and God. These are only a
few ways that Byzantines use art as a part of their religion. (Great Ages) Religion was a great part
of the Byzantine empire. To form a bigger
Christian kingdom, Christian Justinian the first attempted to bring the west and east Byzantine
empires together in 527 AD Justinian became the second emperor of Byzantine at that time. Him
and his wife, Theodora, set a goal to restore the former majesty. (Oxford History) They wanted to
improve the intellectual quality and their geographical limits of the Roman Empire. At a great cost,
they reconquered North Africa,

Examples Of Hysteria In The Crucible
Hysteria means exaggerated or uncontrollable emotion or excitement among a group. During the
Witch Craft trials of Salem; hysteria tore apart communities. Many people were executed during
this time. The Crucible, by Arthur Miller shows how hysteria tears apart a community. The
hysteria during the Witch Trials was mainly because of scapegoating. This is when, power groups
blame non conforming individuals for all the problems in society, and ostracise them as witches
only to take the upper hand, and enjoy absolute power. (Yilmaz 123) The punishment for these
people was always loneliness and isolation. The victim would be left alone in a place away from
home or isolated from the entire community. Witchcraftwas used as a scapegoating... Show more

falling for the witchcraft scenario is rooted in the Puritan theocracy of New England that imposed
numerous restraints on its citizens which contributed to an atmosphere of anxiety and repression
In the play, everything begins with Hale s misdiagnosis of Betty s illness. He believes that she
suffers from hysteria caused by witchcraft. The idea of hysteria is a catchall for fantasies, not of
the person who is or believes himself ill, but of the ignorant doctor who pretends to know why.

Office Depot Business Analysis
In 1986, Patrick Sher, Stephen Doughtery, and Jack Kopkin created the leading company in
Office Supplies and called it Office Depot. The company was started in Delray Beach, Florida
and opened its first store in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Right from the beginning Office Depot
began merging with businesses, in 1990 their first merger was The Office Club, Inc. The Office
Club was another office supply store that was founded in 1986 and merged with office depot
towards the end of 1990. This merger also set them as the largest office supply retailer in North
America with 173 stores in 27 states ( Our History , 2017). Office Depot started seeing the global

Bantu Migrations Essay
The Bantu migrations had a vast influence on the development of Africa. The Bantu peoples passed
on many concepts to the rest of Sub Saharan Africa. Originating from Nigeria in the Niger River
Valley, the Bantu migrated south and then spread to both the east and west. The Bantu laid the
foundation for Sub Saharan African societies. They spread agriculture, animal domestication, iron
metallurgy, and cultural development throughout southern Africa. Various forms of government
have developed as a result of the Bantu migrations. They also contributed to the start of many
societies, including the Swahili city states. The adaptations the Bantu people learned, especially the
making of iron, helped them to expand and spread their discoveries. As... Show more content on

Along with iron, bananas helped the Bantu expand into areas not possible before, allowing for
these amazing spreading of the Bantus discoveries. Once iron and bananas were well established
within Bantu tribes, about 1000 CE, their population sizes grew to about twenty two million!
The Bantu stopped migrating during the first century CE and started to form complex government
for the settled villages they already had. Stateless societies are forms of government that are not run
by a hierarchy, but rather through family or kinship groups. The start of these family based
government systems influenced the development of villages, districts, city states, and small and
large kingdoms. The Swahili tribe originating off of the eastern cost of Sub Saharan Africawas a
prime example of Bantu government. Being Bantu themselves, the Swahili show how the Bantu
spread not only government, but also societies as a whole. Just as the Bantus influence on
developing Africa, kinship groups, or family based governing systems, started out small and
eventually grew into massive kingdoms ruling and influencing entire regions. As in many other
places throughout the world, kingdoms brought a need for protection from neighboring regions.
The Bantu seeded the beginnings of African societies, along with starting military development and
growth throughout southern Africa.
One huge aspect of the Bantu tribes migrations was the amount of religion and rituals they spread
throughout Sub Saharan

Jet Fuel Insurance Essay
Chapter 1: Introduction In the United States, biodiesel and biofuel production have increased
dramatically in recent years due to environmental issues from excessive petroleum usages. The
world is now severely depended on oil for many purposes: powering cars, airplanes, farm
vehicles, irrigation pumps, etc. It also plays a significant role as raw material for making many
products like chemical products, medicines, and fabrics. In the USA, it is becoming more
accessible to lessen the dependency on foreign oil. The second highest expense for airlines is
the cost of jet fuel. Any increase in oil prices effects huge amount on the airlines costs and
maintenances. The global demand for aviation fuel is above 40 billion gallons per year which
influenced researchers to explore high quality but low cost feedstocks to produce aviation
standard fuel (Oil Price.Com, 2011). Therefore, the key concern of commercial aviation is to find
reliable fuel alternatives to cut costs, and reduce volatility of fuel supply and carbon emissions. In
recent years, usage of bio jet fuel has got considerable... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Horace Miner s Body Ritual Among The.
Prompt #1 Horace Miner s Body Ritual Among the Nacirema was a very entertaining essay. The
essay made made fun of American culture without directly stating the name of the culture, other
than including the word American spelled backwards. Miner bring to the readers attention the odd
rituals practiced in America that the normal citizen would not find strange at all. However, by
presenting his essayin the this form he shows how strange American customs are from the view of
someone in a different country. Miner begins his essay by describing the American culture as if
it were a tribe. Although he does so secretly, Horace Miner does state that the tribe is located
between Canada and Mexico. He then states that they have an a developed market, yet they re
main concern is on the body. He then goes on to talk about the ritual areas in the homes on the
Nacirema people, bathrooms, where the people practice they re odd rituals. He does not use
direct terms for the medicine men, nor any of the other physicians that are seen in the daily lives
of American people. Miner continues this process while only leaving slight hints. Horace Miner
does a terrific job in this satire. Once view of this paper is noticed, the reader can be entertained by

How does racial profiling and discrimination affect our youth psychologically? The American
Psychological Association notes that research psychologists have studied the psychological effects
of racial profiling and found that victim effects of racial profiling include post traumatic stress
disorder and other forms of stress related disorders, perceptions of race related threats and failure to
use available community resources. (American Psychological Association) During the racial
profiling inquiry, the Commission learned that one of the most significant and potentially long
lasting impacts of racial profiling is its effect on children and youth. Racial profiling in several
contexts, in particular in the education system and in law enforcement, is compromising the future
of our children and youth. The Commission heard that many have concerns with racial profiling
in the education system. This concern was shared by members of several communities, in
particular, the African Canadian, Latin, Chinese, Vietnamese and Arab communities. The
Commission was told of a perception that children from these groups may be stereotyped as
slow to learn and aggressive, and are therefore considered to be the instigators of any conflict or
problems at school. Behaviors that would likely be assumed to be harmless or just a kid being a kid

The Scientific Revolution Of Western Civilizations
During the seventeenth century, the scientific revolution in Europe was at its peak, changing
people s lives through the new techniques of the scientific method. Citizens of western civilizations
had previously used religion as the lens through which they perceived their beliefs and customs in
their communities. Before the scientific revolution, science and religion were intertwined, and
people were taught to accept religious laws and doctrines without questioning; the Church was the
ultimate authority on how the world worked. However, during this revolution, scientists were
inspired to learn and understand the laws of the universe had created, a noble and controversial
move toward truth seeking. The famous scientists of the time, such as Copernicus, Kepler, Galileo
and Newton, were known to be natural philosophers, intending to reveal God s mystery and
understand (through proof) the majesty of God. Throughout previous centuries, people had
hypothesized how the world and natural phenomenon may work, and new Protestant ideals
demanded constant interrogation and examination. Nevertheless, some of these revelations went
against the Church s teachings and authority. If people believed the Church could be wrong, then
they could question everything around them, as well. As a result, the introduction of the scientific
method, a process by which scientists discovered and proved new theories, was revolutionary
because it distinguished what could be proved as real from what was simply

Geothermal Energy Is Heat Energy Coming From The Earth
1. Introduction
Geothermal energy is heat energy coming from the Earth. Geothermal energy is relatively cost
effective, reliable, and friendly to the environment, but is limited to some specific areas. Recent
technology development has greatly expanded the range and size of geothermal energy resources.
Now the geothermal energy can be also used for applications such as home heating, which add use
potential for the resource. Although, tapping geothermal energy will release some gas pollution
which are originally trapped deep inside the earth, these emissions are much lower than those of
fossil fuels. Therefore, geothermal energy is a kind of potential energy and may help to reduce air
pollution and greenhouse gas emissions of the earth.
California, with its location on the Pacific Ring of Fire, has great potential of geothermal energy,
which can easily meet the consumption of electricity for 100,000 residents. According to EIA [1],
the monthly average consumption per person is 557kWh, we can get,
Total Capacity = (557 Г—12 kWh/yearГ—100,000)/(365 Г—24 Г—0.92h/year) = 83 MW
Therefore, our geothermal power plant capacity is 83MW.
2. Resource Definition
2.1 Resource Type
The heat of earth provide us the geothermal energy. The heat can exist in the shallow ground, as
well as hot water or hot rocks a few miles away from the earth s surface. To go deeper, there will
be extremely hot magma [2]. Usually, volcanic activity and seismic effects can produce geothermal
energy [3].

The day to day survival is difficult in a new country for adult refugees trying to support their

The Causes Of Childhood Obesity
Causes of Childhood Obesity Imagine yourself walking into a kindergarten class, and all you
see are obese children not walking, but moving on wheels because they simply cannot walk
anymore due to their excess body weight. Their legs are so weak since they have to handle so
much more weight than what they are designed to do. This vision may no longer be fictional if
the world keeps ignoring the issue of childhood obesity. Nowadays, not only adults, but the
number of children who are obese are incredibly high. The topic has to be taken more seriously
because it is not only bad for their health obviously but it is also abusive. Youngsters with obesity
will tend to stay obese when they grow up and we can all agree that it is not so pleasant to be in
such circumstances. These children are our worthiest fortune and the world s future generation.
When the time comes, their quality of life and level of happiness will accurately reflect how we
raise them and how much caring and love do we have toward them. Every issue has its own
roots of problems and we have to identify those before heading to find solutions. Definitions:
According to researches over decades, overweight or obese are usually used to describe the
condition of having too much excess body fat. The most common way to measure if someone is
overweight is based on their BMI. Someone with a BMI over 30 will be considered as obese. In

Describe My Defining Moment
If you have lived for any length of time, you probably had a defining moment. I experienced my
defining moment in the summer of 2010 when I was six years old. You may not think a child that
young could have a defining moment, but you would be wrong. Moreover, our experiences as
children help to shape our personalities, our outlook on life, and what fears and anxieties we
develop. My defining moments happened on a trip to The American Museum of Natural History.
There was nothing spectacular about that day; it started out just like any other. My dad planned
a trip to the Museum of Natural History. I did not particularly like going to the museum. At that
age, I found it boring because there was nothing to do, but stare at things that did not interest
me, and that I could not touch or play with. Nevertheless, off we went. When we were only a
couple of blocks away, dad said he was afraid we would not be able to find parking close to the
museum. Therefore, when he saw a parking space several blocks away, he pulled over and parked.
His plan was for us to take the train to the museum.

Islam Reflection Paper
Although Islam is the second largest religion in the world with a following of 1.8 billion
followers, no other religion has faced more scrutiny and hardship in the past decades. This has
been caused by media and governments labeling Islam as a whole with their extremist groups like
Al Queda and the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria. I even thought that the principals held by these
extremist group were more common in Islamthan they are. After studying Islam and gaining more
information I came to respect this religion more than any other we studied this semester because of
its seriousness and unity. The Quran and Hadith provide concrete details and instructions to follow
in the faith of Islam. No texts from any other religion are as upfront with their beliefs than these.
Muhammadwas and continues to be a powerful and understanding leader that has led it to
becoming the world s fastest growing religion. I enjoyed studying the powerfulness of
Muhammad and the direct voice of God in the Quran that is sets Islam apart from Judaism and
Christianity. His influence and words continue to deeply inspire muslims even though he has
been dead for centuries. Muhammad is one of the most interesting religious figures of any
religion. He is a mix of all the other important figures from other religions. Like the Bhudda, he
began his life as a normal citizen and then became a spiritual figure. At least for me, this allows
me to find his words and teachings more believable because he is completely human. He is like
Jesus because he is a prophet of God, but he isn t described as half human, half God. This gives
him the same importance and validity as a translator of the Holy Spirits word. Since Muhammad
is completely human his interpretations can be more believable because there isn t room for
confusion on how he was created. Not only was he a spiritual leader of Islam but, he was also a
political leader of the Islamic state. I think his leadership background with his business and
political background allows Muhammad to better preach the word of Allah. The Hadith also plays
an important role in the figure of Muhammad and Islam. It almost functions like a story to tell the
life of Muhammad in critical detail. The intricate

The Birth Control Movement Essay example
The Progressive Era was a period of social and political reform beginning in the post Gilded Age
19th century and lasting through WWI. Industrial and urban growth of early 19th century America
while representative of opportunity and future advancement simultaneously posed many difficulties
for working class citizens. Prior concerns over the conditions of working class citizens were
multiplied and magnified by overpopulated and impoverished urban communities. During this era
many new Progressive agendas were introduced with the goal of reforming dated and unregulated

In document three from The Case for Birth Control Sanger s rhetoric changes, relying on facts,
statistics, and knowledge based reasoning. Document three proves to be a much more reliable and
comprehensive argument than document one. Sanger advocates small families for the working
class as a means to eliminate poverty (due to large families), illegal abortions, child labor, and to
protect the health of women from overwork and the strain of too frequent child bearing (6, 3,124)
The argument shifts from a pseudo socialist agenda to simply the right of a woman to control her
own body and choose her own destiny. Following the release of The Woman Rebel, Anthony
Comstock spearheaded an anti birth control campaign with the aid of the Society for the
Suppression of Vice, vice as Comstock described it intemperance, gambling, and evil reading

Comstock approaches the birth control issue as a religious zealot, arguing that it is the moral and
spiritual obligation of the people to stray from vice and practice abstinence as the only means of

Giant toy stores since they do not manufacture their own products, attempt to develop brand
loyalty to the stores themselves. The shopping experience itself is now sold to consumers.
Retailers want customers to think of their stores as a destination, not a mere outlet for the
distribution of products. Their goal is to move attention away from the products sold, which are
available anywhere, even over the Internet, to the place where the products are sold. Diamond
Toys, one of such specialty toy shops in USA emphasizes status, high quality, unique
merchandise and excellent service. Their goal is to attract a wealthy, cosmopolitan clientele
seeking unique, high quality toys sold by solicitous, knowledgeable service workers. Hence,
stores in the Diamond Toys chain are generally located in upscale shopping districts in major
cities and are built to resemble amusement parks making them appeal to tourists as well as to the
wealthy. Hence, the image the store wants to build for itself, the clientele it wishes to serve, play
a major role in deciding store locations. A store which is interested in building an image of value
for money and offers large discounts will probably locate itself in the city outskirts and depend
upon the discount and variety if offers to lure customers to make the trip

is a parable that is mentioned in the plot of the book. The parable is told by one of the main
characters Ivan Karamazov to his brother Alyosha Karamazov who is a young monk. In this story,
the main character is a Cardinal Grand Inquisitor who arrests Jesus Christ. In The Grand Inquisitor,
Fyodor Dostoyevskyis an intellect discussing how the conflict between God represented by Jesus

Seventy five percent of the victims of intimate murders are female with a total of three to four
million women being battered each year by their respective intimate partners (Protection Against

Animal Cloning Extinct Animals
My research is about the art of cloning cloning includes all things that are living. People have
created a way to clone things. What they have to do is they have to get a mature somatic cell from
what they wish to copy then they put the somatic cell in an egg cell that has its nucleus
removed.Scientists have created a lot of things from a big deer to a tiny little mouse and they are
all cloned from the process that I had mentioned at the top. They are also able to clone a lot more
things than just those that I had mentioned it is even a possibility that they could clone humans and
have they already no one knows only the people that have created them.
Cloning Extinct Animals
There are a lot of animals that are going extinct every day and there might be a way to not stop it
but we could clone the animals that are starting to go extinct. When we clone them we could have
more of those extinct animals. The way scientists or other people who wish to clone could clone
animals that are already extinct
Is that if we have some type of DNA of that animal we could do the same process that they use to
clone animals and that will clone that animal that is extinct and they could reproduce more
animals. Then they will be able to protect them and there won t be that much extinct animals. The
process that they use is called interspecies nuclear transfer and that is what they call it when they
clone an endangered animal. They way that it works is the same way they clone any other living
thing

Analyzing The Play Henry The V
Henry the V
William Shake sphere is a well known poet. He is known as one of the greatest in the English
language. Today his plays are still performed and studied. Henry the V is one of his brilliant plays
that were reinterpreted by Laurence Olivier and Kenneth Branaugh. The battle at Agin court

This is a huge change for the residents of Fentress because they are finally able to communicate to
another town without having to drive there. The telephone line is a sign that the city of Fentress is
finally evolving to become a more modern city even though they are taking more time than the
larger cities. The quote is saying that not all cities can evolve at the same time and that some of
them may take more time than others, and the cities that do not evolve or modernize will become

Enslavement Of The Slave Movement
Enslavement Resistance
Slave resistance began for many enslaved Africans before they reach the Americas. Karenga
explained the many arrangements in which Africans resisted to enslavement, while in Africa,
during the middle passage, and in the Americas. Employing the Karenga text one can evaluate the
different resistances that transpired in Antigua as Cultural, Resistance, Day to Day Resistance,
Abolitionism, Armed Resistance, Revolts, Ship Mutinies, and Afro Native Alliance. One can
conclude that enslaved Africans had an unrelenting resistance to enslavement (Karenga).
There is evidence that confirms enslaved Africans were able to execute successful ship mutinies,
while at sea, and control their destiny by establishing maroon societies wherever they landed in the
Caribbean. These maroon societies would later act as sanctuaries for escaped slaves throughout the
Caribbean. In Antigua, one prominent maroon society was located around the summit of Antigua s
extinct volcano, Boggy Peak now known as Mount Obama (Dash). Maroon societies allowed
groups of escaped slaves and their descendants to maintain a free community in close proximity of
society, but independent of European influence. Maroon communities developed their own
distinctive cultures. Since most maroon communities were founded by African born people, they
incorporated and preserved many aspects of African culture, including language, religious practices,
and craft styles (Jaede). All maroon communities lived in

Francesco Guicciardini s The Black Death
In the later Middle Ages, European countries faced a major crisis. European prosperity and
growth was brought to a halt by a series of famines and plagues, especially the Black Death in
1346 1353. The Black Death was one of the most disastrous disease outbreaks in human history; it
reduced the population of Europeby half (McKay 342). While the Europeans experienced the
climate change called the Little Ice Age, a series of conflicts called The Hundred Years War
(waged from 1337 to 1453) further upset the European civilization. The war was costly, local
government in England fell into disarray, French peasants revolted against high taxes used to
finance the war: society was in chaos. The crisis was followed by the time of rapid change called...

Live Indians were seen as problematic because they refused to die out and they were not wanted in
society (61). Canada and the US categorized Indigenous people creating a complex paternalistic
system because Indigenous people were seen as inferior. The American and Canadian governments
sought to control Indigenous people without any regard for their human dignity, nor did they
acknowledge the different tribes, languages or customs and instead set about creating a single
entity that would stand for the whole group (82). Instead of treating each group differently, the one
size fits all approach was taken because it required less work on the governments part and
reinforced the message that Natives were not important enough for individual recognition. King
shows the assimilation and elimination that Indigenous people endured and how the governments
decided that they had to either butcher or civilize the Indians quickly (108). A major assimilation
policy were residential schools which targeted children so their culture would die out by the next
generation. King compares colonialism to malaria stating that it can lie dormant for many years
and then flare up again which is what happened in in the US in 1887 with the General Allotment
Act (128). Washington attempted yet again to increase assimilation, the policy broke up reserves
and enforced US citizenship on Indigenous people. Meanwhile Canada had the White Paper of 1969

Children cannot live up to the expectations of their parents. These expectations are often

Children are held responsible for other people s behaviour. They may be consistently blamed for

The Education Of The Public Education
Abstract
Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) curriculum in schools is undergoing a
revolution in public education. This revolution is sparked by an increase in federal funding over
the last decade. Between the years of 2011 and 2015, the federal government alone invested
between three and 3.7 billion dollars yearly for STEM education (Johnson, 2012) (White House
Office of Science and Technology Policy, 2014) and new STEM educational instructional strategies
(Bruce Dacis, Gubbins, Gilson, Villanueva, Foreman, 2014). Despite these new investments and
changes, many students are neither enrolling nor excelling in STEM programming, particularly
students of color (Museus, Palmer, Davis, Maramba, 2011). Concurrently, many of the areas of
greatest economic opportunity exist in STEM related fields (National Research Council, 2011). In
order to overcome the opportunity gap that exists between White students and students of color, it
is essential for schools and districts to research and implement best practices related to STEM in
classrooms. The practices must not only be based in strong pedagogy and professional awareness,
but also include culturally responsive practices both within the classroom and the building
(Johnson, Peters Burton, Moore, 2016)and development of STEM mentors both in and out of the
classroom (Ware Stein, 2013).

Product flexibility achieves quality objective and is demonstrated by the we never like to say no

roles thus ensuring service quality and speed during the peak season. Because quality of service is
consistent there is little time spent on correcting service quality so costs are reduced through a

Mercutio as Catalyst in Shakespeare’s play, Romeo and Juliet
Mercutio as Catalyst in Shakespeare s play, Romeo and Juliet
In Shakespeare s play, Romeo and Juliet, the quick witted character Mercutio is a notorious scene
stealer (Utterback 105). Mercutio s major function in the play is to be a catalyst for the plot.
Mercutio s purpose as a character is most significantly revealed in his relationship with Romeo, his
baiting of Tybalt, and his death. More importantly, Mercutio functions as the catalyst for the pattern
of disasters in the play that follows his own tragic death, making him, as described by critic Stephen

Mercutio urges Romeo to end his romantic relationships. Mercutio tells Romeo If thou are dun
we ll draw thee from the mire / Of save your reverence love, wherein though stickest / Up to the
ears (I.iv.41 43). Mercutio scorns the romantic love and relationships that weaken their
friendship. Mercutio s bawdry and scorn are seen as especially ill mannered because he
expresses it in an age celebrating domesticity and middle class marriage (Porter 34). The
connection of Mercutio s name to the misogynistic god Mercury supports his view of love and
relationships (Porter 38). Mercutio s Mercurian message is that Romeo should stay with, or come
back to, the world of male comradeship (Porter 107).
Furthermore, Mercury was a troublesome, quick to anger, and swift messenger. Likewise,
Mercutio is hot headed and quick to act. Mercutio s need for action and his ridiculing nature are
also seen in his aggressive baiting of Tybalt. At first, Mercutio seems almost excited to see
Romeo fight Tybalt in Act Three, Scene One. And but one word with one of us? Couple it with
/ something; make it a word and a blow (III.i.35 36). However, Romeo does not give in to Tybalt
s insults and does not accept Tybalt s challenge to fight. The passive Romeo instead wants love and
peace with Tybalt because of his love for Juliet.
I do protest I never injured thee,
But love thee better than thou canst

Review Of Richard Adams Watership Down
Would you read a book about adventure, survival and brotherhood? What if it was about
humanity and nature? Now, what if it involved bunnies? Watership Down is an award winning
book by Richard Adams. Described as redefining anthropomorphic fiction by critics, the book
won both the Carnegie medal and the Guardian children s prize. Tackling big ideas, the author
weaves an adult tale of human struggle disguised as a book about bunnies. Besides granting the
powers of speech and intellect, he has gifted his rabbits with trembling fears, clownish wit, a
folklore of proverbs and poetry, and a language called Lapine, complete with a glossary! The book
tells the story of Fiver and his brother Hazel. Fiver foresees great danger to the rabbits warren.

Aurora Borealis Research Paper
If you enjoy watching the night sky or enjoy stargazing, you may have a chance to see the whole
northern part of the night sky light up with various beautiful glowing colours. It may appear as if
they are slow moving clouds that change shape or position at times. However, these are not
clouds. In fact, they are known as the Auroras. There are two names for this display of lights,
which are Borealis and Australis. This is based upon whether the Auroras are occurring in the
northern or southern atmosphere. However, this research report is specifically about the Aurora
Borealis. The Aurora Borealis do not occur too often and it cannot be predicted as to when they

The North West Territories are considered to be the most active. Northern parts of Alberta,
Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec and Labrador are also great places. However, those who are in
southern part of Canada may need to leave the city in order to see the Northern Lights. This is
due to the fact that air pollution and city lights make it hard to view and almost impossible to see
this magnetic activity.^3 In addition, the best times when the display of the Aurora Borealis occur
is during the solar maximum phase, which is a period of when the most solar activity happen
every 11 years of the Sun s solar cycle. During the solar maximum phase, solar flares occur most
frequently. Hence, this provides more chances for the Aurora Borealis to occur. There are many

The Founding Fathers of the United States established the Rule of Law. This idea of the Rule of
Law made it so citizens were seen as equals. There was no one person who was above the law.
Each person is accountable for their actions and each person is equal to the next, even political
leaders. The Constitution of the United States helped shape the political regime of the country. It
established the separation of powers so that no one office holds too much power. Not only did the
Constitution establish the separation of powers, but it also helped establish Federalism. Because of
Federalism it separated authority between nation and state. This gave each state their power to
create their own laws, policies, and judicial system. The Constitution hits three major roles,
national, state, and individual rights. The Bill of Rights lays out rights of the individuals that they
were entitled to being a part of the US. Some of these individual rights are freedom of speech,
religion, press, and assembly. The Constitution of the United States is the longest standing
Constitution still in practice. Two centuries after the constitution was drafted, it still remains in
effect and is a crucial part of the United States government. The United States is comprised of
different branches of government. At the national level there are three institutions; Legislature,
Judiciary, and the President. Each institution plays different roles in the

United States Tax Policy
Throughout history, taxation on United States citizens has proven to be a necessary component of
a growing economy as means of generating revenue for the federal budget. The federal budget funds

falling bellow the poverty level. Unfortunately, this fund is not always available when catastrophic
evens, such as an economic recession, deplete the revenue coming in and create a budget deficit. In
order to regenerate money coming in and replace the deficit, the government calls on money gained

Clearly regressive and proportional taxes present a growing problem in regard to rising poverty
rates in the United States.
Conservative vs. Liberal Ideology
As with any government program, the type of tax imposed on the taxpayers depends on the political
group currently controlling the government. With a republican president in office, we are seeing
the effects of the conservative philosophy: cut taxes and limit government involvement, thereby
decreasing poverty by stimulating economic growth. Earlier in his term, President George W. Bush
passed a major tax cut with this rational guiding his tax policy:
Lower income taxes for all, with the greatest help for those most in need. Everyone who pays
income taxes benefits while the highest percentage tax cuts go to the lowest income Americans. I
believe this is a formula for continuing the prosperity we ve enjoyed, but also expanding it in
ways we have yet to discover. It is an economics of inclusion. It is the agenda of a government that
knows its limits and shows its heart. President George W. Bush1
This may sound like a tax plan that will relieve the financial burden on lower income taxpayers,
directly benefiting the poor, but in actuality, cutting taxes for all in a regressive manner gives
substantially more money to the wealthiest taxpayers and a very small amount to lower income
taxpayers. According to his plan, a typical American family of four will be able to keep at least $1,

Robots Will Be The Biggest Job
Robotic Technology is the most beneficial means to the future of industries because they will
create more jobs. John Tammy states Robots will ultimately be the biggest job creators simply
because aggressive automation will free us up to do new work by virtue of it erasing toil that
was once essential ( why Robots Will Be The Biggest Job Creators In World History par.3). This
quote shows that robots will be the biggest reason why lots of people have jobs because. Robots
will create a lot of jobs for employees that will free them from doing hard labor. When labor is
hard and it can cause employees to be exhausted which results from them to slow down
production which is bad the company. Without robots, employees are stuck with doing hard and
even time consuming labor which can slow down production. Industrial robots can help a lot of
companies make labor less harsh. Bill Lydon states Automation has allowed us to compete on a
global basis and it has created jobs in Southwest Michigan. If it had not been for automation we
would not have beaten our Japanese, Chinese, and Mexican competitors ( IFR press release 1).
This quote shows that robots not only help companies create more employment, they can also help
companies beat competitors. Which are very beneficial to them because it can help companies build
a good reputation because of the quality and popularity of their products. Without robots to help
companies beat their competitors, they could be beaten by them and

matters of fact, not opinion. Religious belief systems in particular and other aspects of locals

Power Systems In most cultures, any visible formal power structure will lie over a more
fundamental, less formal, structure of influence. This underlying power system will often be
based on patron client relations, in which patrons become influential by acquiring clients who
owe them favors. Often, this takes a pyramid form as more powerful patrons acquire clients who

Interpersonal Communication Reflection
Upon receiving my special project, I took the opportunity to approach it as a new challenging task
but with the commitment to make it a learning and teaching opportunity for myself. The main
objective for this project was to enhance my knowledge and to adhere to what is one of my
weaknesses, group presentations. I was provided with the assignment of three post conferences to
be completed by the end of the semester. When delegating topics to present, I focused on the
tentative schedule and selected one disease to present in each post conference. My selection was
based on utilizing the time I had, as a benefit for both students and I to learn something that was

The reason why I choose to present this topic was because neuro disorders are hard to understand,
and I wanted to take the opportunity to teach my classmates useful information for the following
exam. Through the development and presentation of this project, the student teacher will discuss
the differences in seizures, safety precautions and nursing interventions. Before initiating
presentation, I provided 4 NCLEX style questions for pre test and a handout. In the packet,
information regarding etiology, manifestations of the 6 types of seizures and nursing
interventions where provided. At the completion of the presentation classmates will know the
different types of seizures, precautions during and after a seizures and a score improvement of 4
/4 on post test by the end of post conference. The presentation duration was of 15 minutes and
additional time to complete the pre/post test. After reviewing the post test results, I saw an
increase scores of 50%. Reviewing scores, I feel pleased with my presentation, with evidence that
my classmates did learn the material by improving post test scores. Evaluation papers had
constructive criticism, regarding speaking louder and having a clear tone of voice. The comments
indeed reflected my weakness, during the presentation I do tend to get quiet and hold back a lot.

Self Regulation over Government Regulation on The...
How involved should the Government be when it comes to regulation of the Internet? There are
many different issues regarding internet regulation. Should Internet users be responsible for
controlling how they use the Internet? Since the internet has been introduced to Americans there
have been many debates on how involved the Government shouldbe in regulating topics such as
violent games, gambling, and sexual content.
The Internet is a very useful source for many things. It has almost become a way of life for some
people It has faded out things such as post offices, shopping malls and even telephones to some
extent. So since it has become such an asset in peoples lives then should there be laws to prevent
chaos on the Internet?

So what should the Government do? The Government has power to control who can gamble and
who can purchace certain items at a casino or store but how can the government possibly stop a
teenager from doing this online? It needs to be up to the parent to control how their child uses the
Internet.
Another issue is video games on the internet. There are a lot of violent video games now days,
most of which you have to be eighteen to purchase. There are also a lot of violent video games on
the Internet that you have to be eighteen to play but all you have to do is check the little box that
says yes I am eighteen or over, and who would know any different but that person?
A lot of people are very adament about self regulation. Any other kind of government regulation
on the internet would be a very long process. It s not just the U.S. that has access to this tool. It
is the World Wide Web, meanig it s world wide. There would need to be some sort of committee
formed and it would have to consist of officials from different countries in order to have any law or
regulation because the Internet does not belong to the U.S., it belongs to the world.
Self regulation is, I believe, the best kind of regulation for the Internet. If a parent does not want
their child playing violent video games or downloading pornographic images then

Integrating A Dual Language Immersion Program
Based on the information presented by Rhodes, Ochoa, Ortiz s Assessing Culturally and
Linguistically Diverse Students a practical guide I would develop a Two Way Dual language
immersion K 12 program involving a Late Exit Transitional Bilingual Education element. I
visualize a Dual Language Immersion as program that provides education in two languages for
English speakers and non native speakers of English. In a Two Way ninety ten system or
program in which monolingual English speaking students acquire the school curriculum together
with non native speakers of English; a portion of the instructional day is taught in English and
another portion is in Spanish. In a One Way ninety ten system or model it will follow the same
model as the Two Way with the only difference being the classroom structure. Classroom
structure consists primarily of non native speakers of English. The ultimate goal of this model
aims for additive bilingualism, biliteracy, above average academic achievement in two
languages, and multiculturalism for all students in grades K 12th. The bilingual program clearly
follows the Bestever Charter Schools Transitional Model defined as: K 1st 90% Spanish and
10% English 2nd 80% Spanish and 20% English 3rd 70% Spanish and 30% English 4th 60%

Taking a Look at Personality Testing
Personality testing allows psychologists to assess and describe an individual s personality on a
systematic and scientific level. Personality testing is used for the assessment of proposed theories,
track personality changes, to evaluate the effectiveness of therapy, diagnose psychological issues
and many more things. This essay will demonstrate how objective and projective approaches to
personality testing have different results and outcomes, thereby reason why objective is the better
form of personality testing. Given the different nature and formats of the two methods of
personality testing, it is clear that wither side has strengths and weaknesses Principles of
Personality Testing Loevinger (1955) has proposed five principles for personality assessment. The
first is concerned with the structure of the test. This suggests a greater degree of test structure ; do
identify similarities and differences in test results and to allow the test administrator to draw
conclusions for these results. The next principle is the disguise principle, which allows for more
valid testing. The principle of least stress creates a valid result, as the participant is comfortable and
relaxed with minimal stress under the test conditions. The fourth principle, the principle of the
dynamic continuum highlights how test results should be measured empirically such as common
traits. The final proposition is the principle of emotional limitation is that the emotions of the
administrator are

Coxwold is one of England s most beautiful villages with elegant houses and cottages lining its

ten poor persons; and the Old Hall, a former Grammar School, founded in 1603 by Sir John
Harte from Kilburn, who had been the Lord Mayor of London in 1589. However, the most
prominent building in the village is St Michael s Church with its stately octagonal tower. The
church dates from the fifteenth century and stands unchanged, apart from minor repairs. Inside,
several magnificent memorials pay tribute to the Fauconberg and Belasyse families. The oldest of
these is the altar tomb bearing the date 1603, which shows the recumbent effigies of Sir William

He then transferred his capital from Rome to the refounded Byzantium in the early 4th century, year 330 AD, and named it Constantinople after himself. This city became the surviving safe spot after the breakup of the Western Roman empireby the 5th century. (Great Ages) The Greek language led to a Greek culture. The Byzantine empire stood out for their Christian religion and their expression of it in their artwork. These Romans carved exquisite ivories, illuminated manuscripts, and formed mosaics out of glass and stone. Mosaics were pictures formed from these objects with the intent to stimulate profound religious thought. The mood of these mosaics was always honoring and respectful of Christianity and its components. Another form of Christian expression was in the form of icons. These were parts of the Gospel played out into visual pictures. The icons portrayed prayers, hymns, and sermons in color. These too created a reverence for worshippers to follow. That was the first goal of icons. The second goal was to form an existential link between themselves as worshippers and God. These are only a few ways that Byzantines use art as a part of their religion. (Great Ages) Religion was a great part of the Byzantine empire. To form a bigger Christian kingdom, Christian Justinian the first attempted to bring the west and east Byzantine empires together in 527 AD Justinian became the second emperor of Byzantine at that time. Him and his wife, Theodora, set a goal to restore the former majesty. (Oxford History) They wanted to improve the intellectual quality and their geographical limits of the Roman Empire. Many people were executed during this time. The Crucible, by Arthur Miller shows how hysteria tears apart a community. The hysteria during the Witch Trials was mainly because of scapegoating. This is when, power groups blame non conforming individuals for all the problems in society, and ostracise them as witches only to take the upper hand, and enjoy absolute power. (Yilmaz 123) The punishment for these people was always loneliness and isolation. The victim would be left alone in a place away from home or isolated from the entire community. He believes that she suffers from hysteria caused by witchcraft. Once iron and bananas were well established within Bantu tribes, about 1000 CE, their population sizes grew to about twenty two million! Being Bantu themselves, the Swahili show how the Bantu spread not only government, but also societies as a whole. Just as the Bantus influence on developing Africa, kinship groups, or family based governing systems, started out small and eventually grew into massive kingdoms ruling and influencing entire regions. As in many other places throughout the world, kingdoms brought a need for protection from neighboring regions. • 13. The Scientific Revolution Of Western Civilizations During the seventeenth century, the scientific revolution in Europe was at its peak, changing people s lives through the new techniques of the scientific method. Citizens of western civilizations had previously used religion as the lens through which they perceived their beliefs and customs in their communities. Before the scientific revolution, science and religion were intertwined, and people were taught to accept religious laws and doctrines without questioning; the Church was the ultimate authority on how the world worked. However, during this revolution, scientists were inspired to learn and understand the laws of the universe had created, a noble and controversial move toward truth seeking. The famous scientists of the time, such as Copernicus, Kepler, Galileo and Newton, were known to be natural philosophers, intending to reveal God s mystery and understand (through proof) the majesty of God. Throughout previous centuries, people had hypothesized how the world and natural phenomenon may work, and new Protestant ideals demanded constant interrogation and examination. Nevertheless, some of these revelations went against the Church s teachings and authority. If people believed the Church could be wrong, then they could question everything around them, as well. As a result, the introduction of the scientific method, a process by which scientists discovered and proved new theories, was revolutionary because it distinguished what could be proved as real from what was simply ... • 14. Geothermal Energy Is Heat Energy Coming From The Earth 1. Introduction Geothermal energy is heat energy coming from the Earth. Geothermal energy is relatively cost effective, reliable, and friendly to the environment, but is limited to some specific areas. Recent technology development has greatly expanded the range and size of geothermal energy resources. Now the geothermal energy can be also used for applications such as home heating, which add use potential for the resource. Although, tapping geothermal energy will release some gas pollution which are originally trapped deep inside the earth, these emissions are much lower than those of fossil fuels. Therefore, geothermal energy is a kind of potential energy and may help to reduce air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions of the earth. California, with its location on the Pacific Ring of Fire, has great potential of geothermal energy, which can easily meet the consumption of electricity for 100,000 residents. According to EIA [1], the monthly average consumption per person is 557kWh, we can get, Total Capacity = (557 Г—12 kWh/yearГ—100,000)/(365 Г—24 Г—0.92h/year) = 83 MW Therefore, our geothermal power plant capacity is 83MW. 2. Resource Definition 2.1 Resource Type The heat of earth provide us the geothermal energy. Their legs are so weak since they have to handle so much more weight than what they are designed to do. This vision may no longer be fictional if the world keeps ignoring the issue of childhood obesity. Nowadays, not only adults, but the number of children who are obese are incredibly high. The topic has to be taken more seriously because it is not only bad for their health obviously but it is also abusive. Youngsters with obesity will tend to stay obese when they grow up and we can all agree that it is not so pleasant to be in such circumstances. These children are our worthiest fortune and the world s future generation. When the time comes, their quality of life and level of happiness will accurately reflect how we raise them and how much caring and love do we have toward them. You may not think a child that young could have a defining moment, but you would be wrong. Moreover, our experiences as children help to shape our personalities, our outlook on life, and what fears and anxieties we develop. My defining moments happened on a trip to The American Museum of Natural History. There was nothing spectacular about that day; it started out just like any other. My dad planned a trip to the Museum of Natural History. I did not particularly like going to the museum. At that age, I found it boring because there was nothing to do, but stare at things that did not interest me, and that I could not touch or play with. Nevertheless, off we went. When we were only a couple of blocks away, dad said he was afraid we would not be able to find parking close to the museum. • 19. Islam Reflection Paper Although Islam is the second largest religion in the world with a following of 1.8 billion followers, no other religion has faced more scrutiny and hardship in the past decades. This has been caused by media and governments labeling Islam as a whole with their extremist groups like Al Queda and the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria. I even thought that the principals held by these extremist group were more common in Islamthan they are. After studying Islam and gaining more information I came to respect this religion more than any other we studied this semester because of its seriousness and unity. The Quran and Hadith provide concrete details and instructions to follow in the faith of Islam. No texts from any other religion are as upfront with their beliefs than these. Muhammadwas and continues to be a powerful and understanding leader that has led it to becoming the world s fastest growing religion. I enjoyed studying the powerfulness of Muhammad and the direct voice of God in the Quran that is sets Islam apart from Judaism and Christianity. His influence and words continue to deeply inspire muslims even though he has been dead for centuries. Muhammad is one of the most interesting religious figures of any religion. He is a mix of all the other important figures from other religions. Like the Bhudda, he began his life as a normal citizen and then became a spiritual figure. At least for me, this allows me to find his words and teachings more believable because he is completely human. He is like Jesus because he is a prophet of God, but he isn t described as half human, half God. This gives him the same importance and validity as a translator of the Holy Spirits word. Since Muhammad is completely human his interpretations can be more believable because there isn t room for confusion on how he was created. Not only was he a spiritual leader of Islam but, he was also a political leader of the Islamic state. I think his leadership background with his business and political background allows Muhammad to better preach the word of Allah. The Hadith also plays an important role in the figure of Muhammad and Islam. It almost functions like a story to tell the life of Muhammad in critical detail. The intricate ... Industrial and urban growth of early 19th century America while representative of opportunity and future advancement simultaneously posed many difficulties for working class citizens. Prior concerns over the conditions of working class citizens were multiplied and magnified by overpopulated and impoverished urban communities. Employing the Karenga text one can evaluate the different resistances that transpired in Antigua as Cultural, Resistance, Day to Day Resistance, Abolitionism, Armed Resistance, Revolts, Ship Mutinies, and Afro Native Alliance. There is evidence that confirms enslaved Africans were able to execute successful ship mutinies, while at sea, and control their destiny by establishing maroon societies wherever they landed in the Caribbean. These maroon societies would later act as sanctuaries for escaped slaves throughout the Caribbean. The war was costly, local government in England fell into disarray, French peasants revolted against high taxes used to finance the war: society was in chaos. Live Indians were seen as problematic because they refused to die out and they were not wanted in society (61). Canada and the US categorized Indigenous people creating a complex paternalistic system because Indigenous people were seen as inferior. The American and Canadian governments sought to control Indigenous people without any regard for their human dignity, nor did they acknowledge the different tribes, languages or customs and instead set about creating a single entity that would stand for the whole group (82). Instead of treating each group differently, the one size fits all approach was taken because it required less work on the governments part and reinforced the message that Natives were not important enough for individual recognition. King shows the assimilation and elimination that Indigenous people endured and how the governments decided that they had to either butcher or civilize the Indians quickly (108). A major assimilation policy were residential schools which targeted children so their culture would die out by the next generation. King compares colonialism to malaria stating that it can lie dormant for many years and then flare up again which is what happened in in the US in 1887 with the General Allotment Act (128). Washington attempted yet again to increase assimilation, the policy broke up reserves and enforced US citizenship on Indigenous people. Meanwhile Canada had the White Paper of 1969 ... • 39. The Education Of The Public Education Abstract Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) curriculum in schools is undergoing a revolution in public education. This revolution is sparked by an increase in federal funding over the last decade. Between the years of 2011 and 2015, the federal government alone invested between three and 3.7 billion dollars yearly for STEM education (Johnson, 2012) (White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, 2014) and new STEM educational instructional strategies (Bruce Dacis, Gubbins, Gilson, Villanueva, Foreman, 2014). Despite these new investments and changes, many students are neither enrolling nor excelling in STEM programming, particularly students of color (Museus, Palmer, Davis, Maramba, 2011). Concurrently, many of the areas of greatest economic opportunity exist in STEM related fields (National Research Council, 2011). In order to overcome the opportunity gap that exists between White students and students of color, it is essential for schools and districts to research and implement best practices related to STEM in classrooms. The practices must not only be based in strong pedagogy and professional awareness, but also include culturally responsive practices both within the classroom and the building (Johnson, Peters Burton, Moore, 2016)and development of STEM mentors both in and out of the classroom (Ware Stein, 2013). • 57. Self Regulation over Government Regulation on The... How involved should the Government be when it comes to regulation of the Internet? There are many different issues regarding internet regulation. Should Internet users be responsible for controlling how they use the Internet? Since the internet has been introduced to Americans there have been many debates on how involved the Government shouldbe in regulating topics such as violent games, gambling, and sexual content. The Internet is a very useful source for many things. It has almost become a way of life for some people It has faded out things such as post offices, shopping malls and even telephones to some extent. So since it has become such an asset in peoples lives then should there be laws to prevent chaos on the Internet? People ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So what should the Government do? The Government has power to control who can gamble and who can purchace certain items at a casino or store but how can the government possibly stop a teenager from doing this online? It needs to be up to the parent to control how their child uses the Internet. Another issue is video games on the internet. There are a lot of violent video games now days, most of which you have to be eighteen to purchase. There are also a lot of violent video games on the Internet that you have to be eighteen to play but all you have to do is check the little box that says yes I am eighteen or over, and who would know any different but that person? A lot of people are very adament about self regulation. Any other kind of government regulation on the internet would be a very long process. It s not just the U.S. that has access to this tool. It is the World Wide Web, meanig it s world wide. There would need to be some sort of committee formed and it would have to consist of officials from different countries in order to have any law or regulation because the Internet does not belong to the U.S., it belongs to the world. Self regulation is, I believe, the best kind of regulation for the Internet. If a parent does not want their child playing violent video games or downloading pornographic images then ... • 58. Integrating A Dual Language Immersion Program Based on the information presented by Rhodes, Ochoa, Ortiz s Assessing Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Students a practical guide I would develop a Two Way Dual language immersion K 12 program involving a Late Exit Transitional Bilingual Education element. I visualize a Dual Language Immersion as program that provides education in two languages for English speakers and non native speakers of English. In a Two Way ninety ten system or program in which monolingual English speaking students acquire the school curriculum together with non native speakers of English; a portion of the instructional day is taught in English and another portion is in Spanish. In a One Way ninety ten system or model it will follow the same model as the Two Way with the only difference being the classroom structure. Classroom structure consists primarily of non native speakers of English. The ultimate goal of this model aims for additive bilingualism, biliteracy, above average academic achievement in two languages, and multiculturalism for all students in grades K 12th. The bilingual program clearly follows the Bestever Charter Schools Transitional Model defined as: K 1st 90% Spanish and 10% English 2nd 80% Spanish and 20% English 3rd 70% Spanish and 30% English 4th 60% Spanish and 40% English 5th 40% Spanish and 60% English 6th 10% Spanish and 90% English I believe that all students, including English Language Learners: would be taught all day by a certified teacher who ... • 59. Taking a Look at Personality Testing Personality testing allows psychologists to assess and describe an individual s personality on a systematic and scientific level. Personality testing is used for the assessment of proposed theories, track personality changes, to evaluate the effectiveness of therapy, diagnose psychological issues and many more things. This essay will demonstrate how objective and projective approaches to personality testing have different results and outcomes, thereby reason why objective is the better form of personality testing. Given the different nature and formats of the two methods of personality testing, it is clear that wither side has strengths and weaknesses Principles of Personality Testing Loevinger (1955) has proposed five principles for personality assessment. The first is concerned with the structure of the test. This suggests a greater degree of test structure ; do identify similarities and differences in test results and to allow the test administrator to draw conclusions for these results. The next principle is the disguise principle, which allows for more valid testing. The principle of least stress creates a valid result, as the participant is comfortable and relaxed with minimal stress under the test conditions. The fourth principle, the principle of the dynamic continuum highlights how test results should be measured empirically such as common traits. The final proposition is the principle of emotional limitation is that the emotions of the administrator are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 60. Coxwold Research Paper This scenic walk explores the western fringe of the Howardian Hills. There are superb views across the Vale of York and Kilburn s White Horse is visible throughout most of the walk. Coxwold is one of England s most beautiful villages with elegant houses and cottages lining its broad main street. Notable buildings include: five almshouses, founded in 1662 as a hospital for ten poor persons; and the Old Hall, a former Grammar School, founded in 1603 by Sir John Harte from Kilburn, who had been the Lord Mayor of London in 1589. However, the most prominent building in the village is St Michael s Church with its stately octagonal tower. The church dates from the fifteenth century and stands unchanged, apart from minor repairs. Inside, several magnificent memorials pay tribute to the Fauconberg and Belasyse families. The oldest of these is the altar tomb bearing the date 1603, which shows the recumbent effigies of Sir William Belasyse and his wife Margaret. The base of the wooden lectern stand has the carving of a mouse, the trademark of renowned woodcarver Robert Thompson, the Mouseman of Kilburn . At the top of the village stands Shandy Hall, former home of the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Large gardens with productive orchards of apple, pear and plum trees became part of the village economy. In addition, selling of the fruit crop provided a sizeable income and often paid a tenants rent for the full year. Evidently, Husthwaite supplied fruit to the Whitby whaling fleet and the boat owners presented some whale jawbones to the village in the 1800s, which once formed an arch across the Malton road. By the late 1960s, many of the existing orchards had disappeared, leaving very little evidence of the village s heritage. Nevertheless, in 2009 a project started by the village history society saw a revival in commercial growing to fund a variety of projects within the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
