Luxury goods Jewellery in India. ABSTRACT The Luxury goods industry is a very wide
industry comprising of products from watches, jewellery, perfumes, expensive wines to yachts,
expensive pens, and clothes. Goods for which demand increases more proportionally as
compared to income, are known as Luxury goods , in contrast to a necessity goods , for which

If the road can be cleared of challenges and impediments, luxury retailing in India will have a
smooth drive ahead. THE EXPECTED IMPLICATIONS OF THE RESEARCH PROJECT FOR
ORGANIZATIONS My research on luxury goods and jewellery is innovative because it brings
together analysis of national discourses about Indian market with a study of the practices and
choices of the Indian government and the luxury goods and jewellery sector. I believe this
research can be helpful to the nation, development agencies, and indigenous organizations. I am
particularly committed to sharing the results of my analysis with the Jewellers Association in
India and hope that my work will not just be an extraction of truths, but will give them
information with which they can help make the sector more organized. PRELIMINARY

than trying to expand into new domestic markets. Globalization is the process of social, political,
economic, cultural and technological integration among countries around the world. (Hodgetts

problems. The per capita GDP remains low, but the recent environmental trends have boosted

How Did Eminem Influence People s Youth
Despite taste in music, age or nationality, everyone is bound to know the famous rapper, Eminem.
Many eagerly awaited his return to the music industry; while some hoped to never see his name on
the charts again. After a long break from the industry, Eminem made his return in 2010, rising to the
top of the charts once again. Critics have claimed his lyrical content is inappropriate and effects the
nation s youth negatively, but his fans argue that he and his 2010 return have been a source of
inspiration and encouragement in their lives.
Eminem was born Marshall Mathers III on October 17, 1972. His home life was extremely
troubled. He was raised by his mother who was only 15yrs old when she gave birth to him. His

He was criticized for his explicit lyrics and the negative references he made about Kim, his now ex
wife, his mother, and homosexuals to name a few. Critics claimed he is corrupting the minds of the
youth. Even still his talent was undeniable within the rap community. His ability write, rhyme and
flow on the microphone continued to keep the attention of many.
Against all odds, he had succeeded far beyond what the world presumed possible. His personal
life was cast into the limelight, as it was the center of most of his music. Marshall touched on
topics many would never rap about. He created an alter ego for himself, known as Slim Shady.
He makes reference to the fast changes in many of his songs, Ya know, I just don t get it, last
year I was nobody, now I am selling records. (Eminem). The criticism only gave him more to
write about, most of the time exaggerating what critics had to say about him. Parents claimed he
promoted and provoked violence in his songs, causing those that listened to his music to become
violent. Gay activist protested against him at the 2001 Music Awards, claiming he was
homophobic his lyrics were hateful (Eminem s Grammy Award Outrage, 2001). He had Elton
John perform live with him at the show in order to prove his lyrics were not to always be taken
literally.
Eminem is well known for dis tracks, where he slices apart those that oppose him with his lyrics. If

Issues in Retail Management
Issues in Retail Management
The choice of a suitable retail category to investigate the issues affecting the retail environment is
crucial, and it should be representational in nature. This is essential because the rest of the retail
categories can apply the recommendations for overcoming the issues. The retail category that can
be useful in exploring the issues affecting module themes of global and international retailing,
sustainability and ethics, and technology and retailing is foodstuffs and consumables. This retail
category is at a better position to explore the module themes because it has a broad market. For
instance, it is also essential to note there are no geographical barriers restricting people on the food
that they consume, sustainability is an important aspect of foodstuffs and consumables category,
and the use of technology in retailing has had a significant impact on the retail category.
In addition, there are ethical issues that affect the retail of foodstuffs and consumables that retailers
need to address in order to achieve a competitive edge in the market. This retail category represents
the rest of the categories because all issues relating to all the themes of the module affect it and any
recommendations from this examination may be useful to the rest of the retail categories.
A number of issues have an influence on the three themes of retailing, and these issues can affect
the retailing industry as a whole. For the global and international

Stereotypes Of Women
In Society today, women are seen equal to men. The women are taking more men s roles and the
men are taking more of the women s roles. Women have a lot of freedom then they did back in the
day, which means gender portrayals have changed in modern advertising; men are seen in more of
housewife types of advertisements and women are seen more in job recruiting advertisements and
alcohol related advertisements. Women and men now are seen differently in advertisements; there
has been an excessive change in advertisements. Dual Working Parents and Household Work Today,

The women are not dressed traditionally but modernly. According to Törrönen (2013), you
see more women drinking alcohol now then you did before (p.640). Törrönen (2013) states
that in the 1900s women who drink were seen as sexual models, which meant women got spend
their own freedom, got to enjoy how they look and having their sexual side shown. Women were
able to show more pride in advertisements. Alcohol was seen as a beverage that kept the human
relaxed and satisfying. Society saw alcohol as a rich people s beverage, it was seen as classy.
Women were dressed classy, as career women in some advertisements, and they were holding a
glass of alcohol (p.654). Which means change in alcohol advertisements happened in the 1900s,
where women were seen more in alcohol advertisements. Looking at the Bud light image, it relates
to the article because in present day advertisements women get to express themselves more and they
can show off their bodies. In the Bud light image shown, the woman appears to have an athletic
body, she is holding a soccer ball. Looking at the top right side you could see that it is for the
FIFA world cup advertisement for America. The main target of the advertisement would
probably be the people watching the game either in a bar or a game where they could enjoy that
bud light drink. Törrönen (2013) Explains how back in the day women would not be seen in
advertisements showing half their body, where they were keeping it traditional (p.644). Now,
when looking at the image there is huge change in society, the women in the Bud light image is
expressing herself and the body she has made by working out, it also allows the audience to see
how women attracts men to sports, by having these advertisements it gives men pleasure to drink
the beer. The woman in the image is actually African American, which is also a huge change
because advertisements usually show more Caucasian

The Baroque Period Of The Baroque And Classical Period
At this time last year, I would have considered all music before the 20th century to be classical.
However, after taking a Dual Credit Music Appreciation course, I realized that old music cannot
simply be grouped into a single category. There are so many differences that I had no idea
existed. Throughout the years, music has changed and evolved, meeting the needs of listeners
and performers. Different composers have been catalysts in this change as they have developed
new styles and genres. Even though the classical period is directly subsequent of the baroque
period, baroque and classical music have countless different qualities and characteristics. The
baroque period of music commenced in the year 1600 and ended around 1750 (Fuller Baroque ).
Its texture was mainly polyphonic (Fuller Classical ). Polyphonic means that two or more different
melodies are played simultaneously (McComb). This provides an energetic rhythm, long melodies,
and many ornaments. The most famous composers of this time period were Vivaldi, Corelli,
Monteverdi, Purcell, Handel, J.S. Bach, and Couperin. Many new styles of music were introduced,
such as operas, sonatas, oratorios, suites, fugues, and concertos. Orchestras began to develop, but it
was not until the classical period when orchestral music was perfected (Fuller Baroque ). In 1750,
the classical period of music started, and it terminated in 1810. The texture was primarily
homophonic (Fuller Classical ), which means there is

Plato s The Republic and The Apology
In Plato s The Republic and The Apology, the topic of justice is examined from multiple angles in
an attempt to discover what justice is, as well as why living a just life is desirable. Plato, writing
through Socrates, identifies in The Republic what he thought justice was through the creation of an
ideal city and an ideal soul. Both the ideal city and the ideal soul have three components which,
when all are acting harmoniously, create what Socrates considers to be justice. Before he outlines
this city and soul, he listens to the arguments of three men who hold popular ideas of the period.
These men act to legitimize Socrates arguments because he finds logical errors in all of their
opinions. In The Apology, a different, more down to Earth, Socrates is presented who, through his
self defense in court, reveals a different, even contradictory, view of the justice presented in The
Republic. In this paper, the full argument of justice from The Republic will be examined, as well as
the possible inconsistencies between The Republic and The Apology. Socrates three opponents in
The Republic come in the form of Cephalus, Polemarchus, and Thrasymachus. Cephalus provides
his opinion first, which is that justice is defined by, truthfulness and returning anything we have
borrowed (The Republic, 331C). Socrates quickly counters, and says that Cephalus interpretation of
justice cannot be right, because, if one borrowed a weapon from a friend who subsequently went

Financial Crisis By Mainstream And Heterodox Economists
The occurrence of financial crises following financial reforms is attributed by mainstream
economists to economic reforms being incomplete or to their incorrect sequencing. Briefly explain
this argument. Focus your briefing note on the reasons advanced particularly by heterodox
economists to criticize this argument. The purpose of this note is to briefly examine the different
approaches in interpreting the financial crisis by mainstream and heterodox economists. To
emphasize the drawbacks in the neoclassical (mainstream) view, and criticize it from the post
Keynesian (major heterodox) viewpoint. The latest financial crisis of 2008 and 2009 will
definitely become a cornerstone in the history of economic though and, correspondingly, the
development of capitalistic system. It is a turning point as the neoclassical (mainstream) theory
that has seemingly been a driver of the late 30 years of development lacks the ability to
comprehensively explain the causes of frequent economic downturns, and provide policy
implications for preventing crisis from occurring again and again. However, the masterminds of the
neoclassical school have suggested some reasonable arguments in favor of free markets, liberalized
interest rates, trade, foreign direct investments, privatization, deregulation, and property rights
summarized in the list of 10 reforms (John Williamson, 2004) and called for more financial
liberalization policies. While the financial markets are liberalized and the real

Analysis of Marks Gospel Essay
This research assignment aims to analyse and interpret an influential part of the New Testament
Mark s Gospel. An analysis of Mark and his community will be discussed as well as interpreting
Jesus teachings and his significant theme of Discipleship as it was then and in present society.
A Gospel in general, is a textual document written in narrative form of the good news and teachings
proclaimed by Jesus to announce the power of God. Mark s Gospel is one of four others (Matthew,
Luke and John), where each Gospel has its differences in structure, language and theological slants.

Although the Roman society questioned Monotheism, the strength of Mark s community to Jesus
had overthrown their past beliefs, whereby their loyalties had met with the many hardships and
dangers of Roman hierarchy just as Jesus followers did.
The concept of seeing the ways of Jesus and that He is the Messiah, is to truly understand the
message being portrayed throughout the Gospel, and not the surface meaning that is being
represented literally. This concept was very significant to Jesus and his followers as to interpret
the meaning without being said, most parables being related to the Kingdom of God and Jesus
miracle stories. Times were harsh and difficult to spread and teach the words of Jesus, as Mark s
community would face persecution. The disciples of Jesus could see more than other believers
could perceive, from being apart of Jesus life with close relationships, as they were taught the
fundamentals from Jesus himself to understand his teachings in much more depth and fluency
than others. There were many similarities among Jesus twelve disciples and Mark s community,
as both groups share the strong faith in Jesus and God s power by spreading the good news to
others as well as experiencing hardships caused by arrogant hierarchy and society. According to
Mark, Jesus was known for his parables and

The Types Of Hostile Sexism In The Gender Equality Movement
Hostile sexism exists in about any place one might look. Whether it be in the classroom or in the
workplace, sexist people are the culprit in the gender equality movement. However, not all types
of sexism are apparent. Benevolent sexism is a passive form of stereotyping people based on their
gender (Glick). Surprisingly, this type of passive sexismstarts at home. When parents have a baby
boy or girl, their future and expectations are already mapped out and planned in the minds of their
parents. While it might not be obvious at first, parents do hold different standards and hoped for
their children based on their gender. When a girl is born, she is immediately dressed in pink and
associated with the delicacy and femininity that comes with being a woman. A mother s
expectation of her daughter when she is young are quite superficial. She expects her to be
beautiful, kind, and obedient. Most importantly, a mother expects her daughter to be reflection of
herself. A father has high hopes for his daughter. He hopes his daughter is a pretty girl who is
strong willed and can take care of herself. Even though mothers and fathers wish for their daughters
independence when they are older, they tend to teach them to be dependent as children which rolls
over into adulthood. For their sons, mothers raise them early on to be sympathetic and smart. A
father wants his sonto start off successful and intelligent. His son is what is going to carry his
legacy and he want to protect it at all

The Kingdom Of Heaven And Jesus s Mission On Earth
One dominant study from the New Testament has been The Kingdom of Heaven as it is believed
to be the central theme within the novel and Jesus s mission on earth. The phrase Kingdom of
Heaven is supposed to be the Kingdom of God, in which those who are spiritual believe in his
existence in their hearts leaving this kingdom as the place where God is unfolding his divine
plans (Walvoord, 2015). Christians believe that God is the creator of all things and sovereign over
the universe however the Islamic faith believe that God sent prophets to teach his laws and one
was Muhammad. Christian texts represent the concept of the Kingdom of Heaven to be the
exercise of God s power and dominion. The Christian faith in contrast to Islamic beliefs, ow sacred
texts are interpreted with parables, how they represent beliefs and how religious founders taught
will be discussed throughout this essay.
The Bible is a sacred texts to religions such as Christianity, it not only holds stories and rules or

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Block Codes
Communication systems consist of transmitter, channel, and receiver. The latter can be affected by
a noise source, such as the Additive White Gaussian noise (AWGN) which, in turn, can cause a
change in the data transmission. As a result of data change or corruption, the idea of channel
coding was introduced as a reliable solution to overcome this dilemma. Nowadays, we use some
techniques as Forward error correction(FEC) to reduce the errors that might appear during the
information transmission over the channel. In this technique, the system adds redundant (extra) bits
to identify if a specific bit is corrupted or not and correct it. FEC Channel codes may be classified
into two main categories: the Convolutional Codeand the Block Code. On... Show more content on

In other words, block coding is a memory less operation as code words are independent from
each other. In contrast, the output of a convolutional encoder doesn t only depend on the current
input information, but also depends on the previous inputs or outputs; either on a block by block
or a bit by bit basis. Each kind of block codes gets a special generation matrix and a decoding
matrix. Unfortunately, the main disadvantage of block codes is that we cannot extract the
information until the whole code is received. In addition, the entire block has to be retransmitted in
case of error.
Convolutional encoders:
In several applications the message bits are transmitted serially rather than blocks. In such cases, it
is not preferred to use a buffer. Thus, the use of convolutional codes may be the optimum method as
it generates redundant bits by using modulo 2 convolutions hence the name of the coder.
The convolutional encoder can be represented as a finite state machine (FSM) with a given
number of shift register stages. For example, if there is a K stage shift registers (usually D flip
flops) with a rate of encoder input bits to its output is 1/n and L bits length message, so the coded
output sequence will have the length of n (L+K) bits .
The most common convolutional encoders have the following parameters: K=2

Tsarist Autocracy Essay
The Russian Empire was a vast state that ruled over many different nationalities. All people in
Russia had to face a highly authoritarian regime, the Tsarist Autocracy. The most crucial of the
defining features of the Tsarist Autocracy was the fact that the ruler, the Tsar, had an absolute
power which was said to be derived from God and knew no constitutional limits. This had very
deep political and legal implications: decrees of the Tsarwere considered laws, and with such
authority there was no need for any political system. Below the Tsar existed his government and a
vast bureaucracy which was administering the state affairs. Lack of control and accountability
generated high corruption in the public life of Imperial Russia. Another characteristic of the regime
was the absence of political freedoms and civil rights, censorship and strong repression of
opposition with a strong role of the secret police which in turn made Russia a police state.
Russia s social structure was based on the ranks dividing the people into 4 main social classes.
The nobility formed the ruling elite who shaped the basis of the autocracy of the Tsar and enjoyed
extensive privileges such as being excluded from paying taxes.
Below the ruling nobility were those nobles who worked as government officials and were

The Architectural Feat Of The Palace Of Knossos
The Architectural Feat of the Palace of Knossos
The Minoan civilization that flourished on the island of Crete is best known for their recognizable
architecture and art which came about during the Bronze age. The center for administration and
economic growth for the island of Crete was confined within the Minoan Palace of Knossos.
Unfortunately, the extravagant beauty of the palace was only recently discovered when British
Archaeologist, Arthur Evans, starting excavated the site in 1900. Evans was the first to call the
ancient inhabitants of Crete Minoans. The complexity and the grandeur of the palace helps to
identify that Knossos was at one point in history the capital of Crete (Mark, 2010). According to
Greek mythology, architect Daedalus designed the palace of Knossos with great complexity. The
objective of Daedalus plan was to make the palace so complicated finding one s way out would
be an impossible task (Sakoulas). Other versions of the story state that Daedalus designed the
labyrinth, a maze like structure, with a double bladed ax which contained the Minotaur, a half man
half bull figure (Mark, 2010). Whatever the basis of the story may be, King Minos wanted to
ensure the secret to escaping be kept confidential. In order to do so, King Minos demanded
Daedalus and his son, Icarus, be held as prisoners in the palace. Being the clever man Daedalus
was, he anticipated the kings move. Daedalus installed two sets of wings for him and his son to
escape from the island.

†Sustainable Tourism Is a Myth.’ to What Extent Do You...
Sustainable Tourism is a Myth. To what extent do you agree with this statement? (15 Marks)
Sustainable Tourism is essentially an industry committed to making a low impact on the natural
environment and local culture, while helping to generate income and employment for local people.
As Global economists forecast continuing international tourism growth, this continuous growth will
place great stress on remaining biologically diverse habitats and indigenous cultures, which are
often used to support mass tourism. Therefore it is important that sustainable tourism is promoted
and that people are educated about the opportunities provided in order to minimize the effects that
tourism poses on the natural environment while helping to benefit ... Show more content on

Furthermore, both LEDC s and MEDC s are becoming to reliant on mass tourism and are not
taking into the account the impacts in the long term for example 85% of Majorca s income is
through tourism which means there is a lack of economic independence because if the island
were to suddenly become unfashionable then the Island would be left in a vulnerable income.
This is especially the case here as tourism has destroyed farming and agricultural labour which
used to be the main source of income which means Majorca has no other form of income to fall
back on if tourism was to decrease in the area.
Moreover, one of the main issues that sustainable tourism tries to embrace is having a low impact
on tourism but many countries who undertake in mass tourism have failed to properly take this into
account. For example, tourism around the Great Barrier Reef in Australia is the largest commercial
activity there and accounts for 87% of the reefs economic output. However, this tourism has created
pollution through waste disposal, pollution from boats etc. This easily damages the Coral reef
which thus affects the species dependent on them. In addition, tourists disturb the wildlife as many
seabirds nest on the ground and when disturbed leave the nest which thus exposes young or eggs to
predators and developments for tourism damage coastal ecosystems such as the mangrove forests
and estuaries

Ancient Egypt And The Egyptian Culture

scholars and historians to track their life and culture with all the evidence left behind. The
Egyptians were people who were divide by gender and a strong hierarchy. And the Egyptian
culture was quite advanced for their time in history in regards to technology and economy.
Religion was not a single structure; it has different beliefs all that were linked by focus on the
interaction between the Egyptian people and the divine realm of Egypt, as the gods of this realm
linked the Egyptian understanding of the world. And this is very well known by looking at their
artwork throughout their buildings and artifacts. The religion in ancient Egyptwas what made the
civilization a very unique one. Religion was also a very big part in their government structure.
Religion played a very important role in constructing daily lives of ancient Egyptiansand inspired
those amazing construction buildings that were done. The main figure was the pharaoh he was the
center person that religion evolved around of. Their goal throughout their existence was to duplicate
the conditions that believed were around ever since the start of time of the human population. They

The Importance Of The Roy Acuff Postage Stamps
This paper will analyze and discuss the Roy Acuff commemorative stamp published by the United
States Postal Service in 2003. The designer of the art on the stamp was Richard Sheaff from
Scottsdale, Arizona, and the copyright is 2002. The stamps were issued in Nashville, Tennessee by
the United States Postal Service in a pressure sensitive adhesive pane containing twenty stamps on
September 13, 2003. On September 14, 2003, the stamps were made available for purchase
nationwide at a cost of thirty seven cents per stamp. In total, Avery Dennison printed fifty two
million of these stamps (Smithsonian National Postal Museum, 2003). Roy Acuff, nicknamed King
of Country Music, was one of country music s first icons. He helped establish the Grand Ole Opry
as the United States leading country music venue, and through his position in the music publishing
business, he influenced Nashville, Tennessee s notoriety as the country music capital of the United
States (Smithsonian National Postal Museum, 2003). This paper will look at the prominence of
both postage stamps and Roy Acuff, and the importance of their combination in one
commemorative postage stamp. Postage stamps are an important aspect of American culture, and
the Roy Acuff commemorative postage stamp recognizes the influence he had on our music
culture. The research for the Roy Acuff commemorative stamp was easier for some topics, but

Diabetes effects all body systems not just the endocrine. All three types can effect and cause
damage to the neurological, renal, and circulatory systems.
There are different treatment options for Type 1 and 2 diabetes that include oral medications, insulin
injections, and insulin pumps(Diabetes and Kidney Disease). Oral medications are the most
commonly used because of their ease of use and usually lowers the hemoglobin A1C effectively but
can at times cause hypoglycemia (glucose levels falling below normal range of values). Oral
medications are also mostly used for Type 2. Insulin is the method of choice in type 1 diabetes
treatment plans. Insulin injections help reproduce the secretions of the pancreas. There are two
types of insulin that is used, long acting and short acting. These help to better manage a person
depending on meal consumption, caloric intake, and carbohydrate intake. Another way to manage
type 1 is by an insulin pump. An insulin pump delivers continuous subcutaneous infusion of insulin
(Lemur and Batuman 210). Only 1 insulin is used in a pump, fasting acting. Also a pump can be
programmed to release different amounts of insulin depending on the time of day to better manage
glucose levels without multiple injections daily.

Tuberculosis ( Tb ) Is The Disease Of The Lung Caused By A...
2.1 TB burden and epidemiology
Tuberculosis (TB) is the disease of the lung caused by a slow growing intracellular pathogen
called Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M.tb) (1). In 2014, there were 9.6 million cases of active
TB disease worldwide, and 1.2 million TB related deaths according to World Health
Organization (WHO) (2). The burden of the disease can be appreciated with the knowledge that
one third of the world population is latently infected with M.tb, and 5 10% of exposed individuals
develop active disease and are able to spread the infection to more people every year (3,1). To
reduce this burden, effective strategies are required in both preventative and therapeutic areas of
research.

We have shown that the recruitment of antigen presenting cells (APCs) is delayed for up to day 7
post infection which can be attributed to the lack of pro inflammatory cytokines, in particular, TNF
О± which is critical for the control of mycobacterial infection (5). Delayed influx of APCs to the
airway lumen impairs the ability of the host immune system to control the bacterial infection in a
timely manner. Once there is a high influx of APCs at the site of pathogen entry, antigens or
mycobacteria are transported from the lung to the draining lymph node (DLN). The migration of
APCs to DLN is mediated by the upregulation of expression of chemokine receptor CCR7 that
allows APCs to respond to CCL19 and CCL21 chemokine gradients which are constitutively
expressed in the LN (3,5,8). Normally migration of DCs occurs within few hours after infection;
for example in case of influenza, the required time is 20 hours, whereas in the case of TB infection
it takes between 8 10 days, implying that this delayed migration is the limiting step towards the
initiation of adaptive immune responses.
2.2.2 Initiation of adaptive immunity
Cellular immunity plays a critical role in the control of M.tb infection. It has been shown that
CD4+T helper 1 (Th1) cells play a central role in protection against TB disease, primarily through
the production of macrophage activating cytokines such as IFN Оі and TNF О± (9 11). In the
process of primary infection,

Clowns have been around for ages and appear in most cultures in varying forms. From court
jesters and mimes to rodeo and circus clowns their primary purpose was to make people laugh.
To provide comic relief. Somewhere along the line clowns became dark. Facebook even has an I
Hate Clowns page with some 400,000 followers! Is it because clowns always possessed a certain
sadness. Were they always just mirroring humanity with all our imperfections or was it something
else? I m not sure, but clownphobia did not seem so prevalent prior to the IT movie in 1990. IT was
based on Stephen Kings 1986 novel of the same title and both the book and movie instilled a fear
into what seems like an entire generation of kids. In the novel, Stephen King s IT was about a
demon who feeds on fear. IT was banished to earth and wakes every 27 to 30 years to terrorize
kids and feast upon their flesh, which tastes better to him when they are afraid. He can take any
form but uses the clown because children are more easily frightened than adults. In the novel the
clown is evil, alien, and other worldly. Something timeless and ageless, something eternal that can
be stopped for a while but not destroyed. The portrayal of Pennywise in the original movie did not

Virtue Theory And Abortion By Rosalind Hursthouse
PHI 107 Essay Assignment 11/24/15 Katelalyn Miller Virtue Theory is one of many different
moral theories that exist today. It is based off of Aristotle s Virtue Ethics which focuses on
having an ideal character. The main focus of Virtue Theory is the role of one s character, which
is closely related to its roots in Aristotle. A Virtue Theorist would do things because it is who
they themselves are, not because it is good to do them or because they will get something good
from doing them. In the article, Virtue Theory and Abortion , by Rosalind Hursthouse, she
explains her view on abortion without trying to solve the issue of if it is right or wrong. She,
with the use of Virtue Theory, simply says that an action is right only if a virtuous agent would
do it were they in the same circumstances. She goes on explaining how a Virtue Theorist needs to
apply if actions are honest/dishonest and charitable/uncharitable; without doing this then Virtue
Theory would be of no use with real moral issues because of a lack of argument. Hursthouse says
that there are two main things taken into consideration when speaking of the morality of abortion.
The first thing is the status of the fetus, meaning whether or not it is a conscious being and if it
may or may not be killed. The second thing is women s rights, if a woman has the right to choose

Essay on Emily Bronte s Wuthering Heights
Wuthering Heights: A Great Romantic Novel
The Romantic Period was a very imaginative and creative period of thinking. The literature
produced during this period reflected this wild and free spirited imagination. The works dismissed
the Enlightenment thinkers in their claims of Reason, progress, and universal truths (Damrosch,
1317). Instead, these writers explored superstitions and had a renewed sense of passion for the wild,
the unfamiliar, the irregular, and the irrational (Damrosch, 1317). Other common elements of the
writing during this period were the returned interest of gothic romance elements, a fascination of
exploring the inner world of the mind and the unconscious into its dark side, an interest in emotional

This is not even the complete list of Romantic elements found within the books borders. To sum up
the elements, one needs to include all of the conflicts found in the novel, both the internal and
external conflicts. These include things like Nature vs. Civilization, the Wild vs. the Tame, the
Deep and Elemental vs. the Superficial and Impermanent, and Natural Impulses vs. Artificial
Restraint (Agatucci, 4).
All of these different elements are combined into this one novel, showing the avant garde genius of
Emily Bronte. She was a very creative innovator full of an incredibly gifted imagination and
otherworldy sense for the supernatural ghosts of the past and the hidden personal demons found
deep in the unconscious mind, which she displays in the character of Heathcliff especially.
Heathcliff starts out in the story as the most outcast of the outcast. He is picked up and adopted

Gandhara s sculptures range in many different shapes and size. These consist of Bodhisattva
torsos, heads, and even rock reliefs. In the earlier Kushan period, the head sculptures had traces
of an adorned look and feel to it but was still pretty simplified. They displayed the sculpture
relatively flat on the front and the back of the head with open eyes and the fleshy lips. A
suggestion of braiding around the forehead gives the sense of the Bodhisattva wearing a turban,
and of course the heavy spiral earrings. All these features appeared around the first century. The

Since then, gerrymandering has been used to gain partisan advantage and to shape the political
projections of politicians and racial and ethnic groups. The two most common gerrymandering
techniques include packing and cracking, disappointingly both waste valuable votes in doing so.
Packing has both an offensive and defensive strategy. Offensively, packing is to fill a district
with many voters of one type to create a safe seat; typically used in partisan gerrymandering.
Defensively, packing is to compress voters of one type into as few districts as possible to dilute
their influence elsewhere. However, cracking is to spread as many voters of one type into as many

Hayden Symphony 94 Analysis
The piece that I have decide to use is the Hayden Symphony 94. I will be using all four
movements to identify which criteria has been met by this piece. The Haydn Symphony 94 follows
a form that works for it with each of the four movements have an expressive section then a
rhythmic section. Also, during the second movement which is a theme and variation he repeated
both themes but the second time he would use a drastic dynamic change. (Criterion #1) Within
movement 2 Haydn uses dynamic contrast frequently. The first 15 measures of the piece are a
succession of soft melodies then in the 16th measure Haydn places a loud note to grab the attention
of the audience then he returns to his quiets melodies. Haydn also wrote solos for the oboist and

colors to each section of the piece. He starts this movement with the strings having the main theme

the movement he has all instruments playing some form of the main theme. We can also here that
the main theme has moved from the high voices to the low voices throughout the movement. By
the end of the movement the we have the woodwinds completely taking over the melody while the
stings are playing the accompanying parts. (Criterion #3) Within the second movement of the
symphony there is this one loud note or chord among a group of soft chords. Once the audience has
heard this once or twice they come to predict the note because the previous nots grabbed our

Large manufacturing businesses such as Ford and General Motors were experiencing rapid
expansion and were looking to management methods to increase output and focus the efficiency of
their workers. Many of Taylor s principles were adopted in factory production and throughout the
20th century the application of scientific principles had a marked affect on productivity. Ironically,
as a result of increased production, the general standard of living improved and so did worker
dissatisfaction with the method. Union management and a popular interest in the human factor (by
behavioural scientists) resulted in a productivity slowdown. This prompted organisations to relocate
their work force to developing countries with cheaper labour, a mirror of the original conditions that
allowed scientific management to thrive in the west (Oman, 2000). Organisations were now looking
to new management methods to satisfy the increasing needs of their workforce and regain
productivity and many found it in the form of the Human Relations Approach (Wilson 1990).
The Human Relations Approach represents a significant departure from the automated and
dehumanized approach of Scientific Management. Where Scientific Management concentrates on
technique and output, the Human Relations Approach focuses on the individual and organisational
change through human interactions (Baldridge 1972). It challenges the concept of managers think

I learned a lot more when i created my product. When i created my product i tried to figure out
what to do because a registered nurse takes on a lot of tasks. As i thought about what i done
while getting my hours i noticed that i could do the same thing as my product. When i present
my product i will have a person to assist me to demonstrate on them what a registered nurse is
responsible for doing to you. A registered nurse is responsible for providing advice and emotional
support to family members of a patient so that s basically what my product is going to show.
Since i started my capstone project i have took in so much stuff and i am actually comfortable
with it. I found a lot in myself that i didn t know was in me. As i sat at the nursing home days at
a time i found patience in myself because i hate moving at other people s paste but i did it
because i needed to know how everything was suppose to be done. The information i took in
actually taught me more than i already knew. The information really didn t take an affect on my
plans for the future because it actually pushed me to go harder than i am now in the future. I have
now told you everything that you need to know about my capstone project and i hope that
everything gets taken in. This is not the easiest thing to talk about but i am willing to do it for my

THE EXPECTED IMPLICATIONS OF THE RESEARCH PROJECT FOR ORGANIZATIONS My research on luxury goods and jewellery is innovative because it brings together analysis of national discourses about Indian market with a study of the practices and choices of the Indian government and the luxury goods and jewellery sector. I believe this research can be helpful to the nation, development agencies, and indigenous organizations. I am particularly committed to sharing the results of my analysis with the Jewellers Association in India and hope that my work will not just be an extraction of truths, but will give them information with which they can help make the sector more organized. In the Bud light image shown, the woman appears to have an athletic body, she is holding a soccer ball. • 6. The Baroque Period Of The Baroque And Classical Period At this time last year, I would have considered all music before the 20th century to be classical. However, after taking a Dual Credit Music Appreciation course, I realized that old music cannot simply be grouped into a single category. There are so many differences that I had no idea existed. Throughout the years, music has changed and evolved, meeting the needs of listeners and performers. Different composers have been catalysts in this change as they have developed new styles and genres. Even though the classical period is directly subsequent of the baroque period, baroque and classical music have countless different qualities and characteristics. The baroque period of music commenced in the year 1600 and ended around 1750 (Fuller Baroque ). Its texture was mainly polyphonic (Fuller Classical ). Polyphonic means that two or more different melodies are played simultaneously (McComb). This provides an energetic rhythm, long melodies, and many ornaments. The most famous composers of this time period were Vivaldi, Corelli, Monteverdi, Purcell, Handel, J.S. Bach, and Couperin. Many new styles of music were introduced, such as operas, sonatas, oratorios, suites, fugues, and concertos. Orchestras began to develop, but it was not until the classical period when orchestral music was perfected (Fuller Baroque ). In 1750, the classical period of music started, and it terminated in 1810. The texture was primarily homophonic (Fuller Classical ), which means there is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Plato s The Republic and The Apology In Plato s The Republic and The Apology, the topic of justice is examined from multiple angles in an attempt to discover what justice is, as well as why living a just life is desirable. Plato, writing through Socrates, identifies in The Republic what he thought justice was through the creation of an ideal city and an ideal soul. Both the ideal city and the ideal soul have three components which, when all are acting harmoniously, create what Socrates considers to be justice. Before he outlines this city and soul, he listens to the arguments of three men who hold popular ideas of the period. These men act to legitimize Socrates arguments because he finds logical errors in all of their opinions. In The Apology, a different, more down to Earth, Socrates is presented who, through his self defense in court, reveals a different, even contradictory, view of the justice presented in The Republic. In this paper, the full argument of justice from The Republic will be examined, as well as the possible inconsistencies between The Republic and The Apology. Socrates three opponents in The Republic come in the form of Cephalus, Polemarchus, and Thrasymachus. Cephalus provides his opinion first, which is that justice is defined by, truthfulness and returning anything we have borrowed (The Republic, 331C). Socrates quickly counters, and says that Cephalus interpretation of justice cannot be right, because, if one borrowed a weapon from a friend who subsequently went out of his mind ... Briefly explain this argument. Focus your briefing note on the reasons advanced particularly by heterodox economists to criticize this argument. The purpose of this note is to briefly examine the different approaches in interpreting the financial crisis by mainstream and heterodox economists. To emphasize the drawbacks in the neoclassical (mainstream) view, and criticize it from the post Keynesian (major heterodox) viewpoint. The latest financial crisis of 2008 and 2009 will definitely become a cornerstone in the history of economic though and, correspondingly, the development of capitalistic system. It is a turning point as the neoclassical (mainstream) theory that has seemingly been a driver of the late 30 years of development lacks the ability to comprehensively explain the causes of frequent economic downturns, and provide policy implications for preventing crisis from occurring again and again. However, the masterminds of the neoclassical school have suggested some reasonable arguments in favor of free markets, liberalized interest rates, trade, foreign direct investments, privatization, deregulation, and property rights summarized in the list of 10 reforms (John Williamson, 2004) and called for more financial liberalization policies. While the financial markets are liberalized and the real ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I did not know it at the time, but his teaching was going to make a big difference for me academically. An analysis of Mark and his community will be discussed as well as interpreting Jesus teachings and his significant theme of Discipleship as it was then and in present society. A Gospel in general, is a textual document written in narrative form of the good news and teachings proclaimed by Jesus to announce the power of God. Mark s Gospel is one of four others (Matthew, Luke and John), where each Gospel has its differences in structure, language and theological slants. Although the Roman society questioned Monotheism, the strength of Mark s community to Jesus had overthrown their past beliefs, whereby their loyalties had met with the many hardships and dangers of Roman hierarchy just as Jesus followers did. The concept of seeing the ways of Jesus and that He is the Messiah, is to truly understand the message being portrayed throughout the Gospel, and not the surface meaning that is being represented literally. This concept was very significant to Jesus and his followers as to interpret the meaning without being said, most parables being related to the Kingdom of God and Jesus miracle stories. Times were harsh and difficult to spread and teach the words of Jesus, as Mark s community would face persecution. The disciples of Jesus could see more than other believers could perceive, from being apart of Jesus life with close relationships, as they were taught the fundamentals from Jesus himself to understand his teachings in much more depth and fluency than others. There were many similarities among Jesus twelve disciples and Mark s community, as both groups share the strong faith in Jesus and God s power by spreading the good news to others as well as experiencing hardships caused by arrogant hierarchy and society. • 13. The Types Of Hostile Sexism In The Gender Equality Movement Hostile sexism exists in about any place one might look. Whether it be in the classroom or in the workplace, sexist people are the culprit in the gender equality movement. However, not all types of sexism are apparent. Benevolent sexism is a passive form of stereotyping people based on their gender (Glick). Surprisingly, this type of passive sexismstarts at home. When parents have a baby boy or girl, their future and expectations are already mapped out and planned in the minds of their parents. While it might not be obvious at first, parents do hold different standards and hoped for their children based on their gender. When a girl is born, she is immediately dressed in pink and associated with the delicacy and femininity that comes with being a woman. A mother s expectation of her daughter when she is young are quite superficial. She expects her to be beautiful, kind, and obedient. Most importantly, a mother expects her daughter to be reflection of herself. A father has high hopes for his daughter. He hopes his daughter is a pretty girl who is strong willed and can take care of herself. Even though mothers and fathers wish for their daughters independence when they are older, they tend to teach them to be dependent as children which rolls over into adulthood. For their sons, mothers raise them early on to be sympathetic and smart. A father wants his sonto start off successful and intelligent. The phrase Kingdom of Heaven is supposed to be the Kingdom of God, in which those who are spiritual believe in his existence in their hearts leaving this kingdom as the place where God is unfolding his divine plans (Walvoord, 2015). Christians believe that God is the creator of all things and sovereign over the universe however the Islamic faith believe that God sent prophets to teach his laws and one was Muhammad. • 17. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Block Codes Communication systems consist of transmitter, channel, and receiver. The latter can be affected by a noise source, such as the Additive White Gaussian noise (AWGN) which, in turn, can cause a change in the data transmission. As a result of data change or corruption, the idea of channel coding was introduced as a reliable solution to overcome this dilemma. Nowadays, we use some techniques as Forward error correction(FEC) to reduce the errors that might appear during the information transmission over the channel. In this technique, the system adds redundant (extra) bits to identify if a specific bit is corrupted or not and correct it. FEC Channel codes may be classified into two main categories: the Convolutional Codeand the Block Code. On... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In other words, block coding is a memory less operation as code words are independent from each other. In contrast, the output of a convolutional encoder doesn t only depend on the current input information, but also depends on the previous inputs or outputs; either on a block by block or a bit by bit basis. Each kind of block codes gets a special generation matrix and a decoding matrix. Unfortunately, the main disadvantage of block codes is that we cannot extract the information until the whole code is received. In addition, the entire block has to be retransmitted in case of error. Convolutional encoders: In several applications the message bits are transmitted serially rather than blocks. In such cases, it is not preferred to use a buffer. Thus, the use of convolutional codes may be the optimum method as it generates redundant bits by using modulo 2 convolutions hence the name of the coder. The convolutional encoder can be represented as a finite state machine (FSM) with a given number of shift register stages. For example, if there is a K stage shift registers (usually D flip flops) with a rate of encoder input bits to its output is 1/n and L bits length message, so the coded output sequence will have the length of n (L+K) bits . The most common convolutional encoders have the following parameters: K=2 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. Tsarist Autocracy Essay The Russian Empire was a vast state that ruled over many different nationalities. All people in Russia had to face a highly authoritarian regime, the Tsarist Autocracy. The most crucial of the defining features of the Tsarist Autocracy was the fact that the ruler, the Tsar, had an absolute power which was said to be derived from God and knew no constitutional limits. This had very deep political and legal implications: decrees of the Tsarwere considered laws, and with such authority there was no need for any political system. Below the Tsar existed his government and a vast bureaucracy which was administering the state affairs. Lack of control and accountability generated high corruption in the public life of Imperial Russia. Another characteristic of the regime was the absence of political freedoms and civil rights, censorship and strong repression of opposition with a strong role of the secret police which in turn made Russia a police state. Russia s social structure was based on the ranks dividing the people into 4 main social classes. The nobility formed the ruling elite who shaped the basis of the autocracy of the Tsar and enjoyed extensive privileges such as being excluded from paying taxes. The center for administration and economic growth for the island of Crete was confined within the Minoan Palace of Knossos. Unfortunately, the extravagant beauty of the palace was only recently discovered when British Archaeologist, Arthur Evans, starting excavated the site in 1900. Evans was the first to call the ancient inhabitants of Crete Minoans. The complexity and the grandeur of the palace helps to identify that Knossos was at one point in history the capital of Crete (Mark, 2010). According to Greek mythology, architect Daedalus designed the palace of Knossos with great complexity. The objective of Daedalus plan was to make the palace so complicated finding one s way out would be an impossible task (Sakoulas). Other versions of the story state that Daedalus designed the labyrinth, a maze like structure, with a double bladed ax which contained the Minotaur, a half man half bull figure (Mark, 2010). The burden of the disease can be appreciated with the knowledge that one third of the world population is latently infected with M.tb, and 5 10% of exposed individuals develop active disease and are able to spread the infection to more people every year (3,1). To reduce this burden, effective strategies are required in both preventative and therapeutic areas of research. 2.2 Primary infection and host defense in TB 2.2.1 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We have shown that the recruitment of antigen presenting cells (APCs) is delayed for up to day 7 post infection which can be attributed to the lack of pro inflammatory cytokines, in particular, TNF О± which is critical for the control of mycobacterial infection (5). Delayed influx of APCs to the airway lumen impairs the ability of the host immune system to control the bacterial infection in a timely manner. Once there is a high influx of APCs at the site of pathogen entry, antigens or mycobacteria are transported from the lung to the draining lymph node (DLN). The migration of APCs to DLN is mediated by the upregulation of expression of chemokine receptor CCR7 that allows APCs to respond to CCL19 and CCL21 chemokine gradients which are constitutively expressed in the LN (3,5,8). Normally migration of DCs occurs within few hours after infection; for example in case of influenza, the required time is 20 hours, whereas in the case of TB infection it takes between 8 10 days, implying that this delayed migration is the limiting step towards the initiation of adaptive immune responses. 2.2.2 Initiation of adaptive immunity Cellular immunity plays a critical role in the control of M.tb infection. Clowns have been around for ages and appear in most cultures in varying forms. From court jesters and mimes to rodeo and circus clowns their primary purpose was to make people laugh. To provide comic relief. Somewhere along the line clowns became dark. Facebook even has an I Hate Clowns page with some 400,000 followers! Is it because clowns always possessed a certain sadness. Were they always just mirroring humanity with all our imperfections or was it something else? I m not sure, but clownphobia did not seem so prevalent prior to the IT movie in 1990. IT was based on Stephen Kings 1986 novel of the same title and both the book and movie instilled a fear into what seems like an entire generation of kids. In the novel, Stephen King s IT was about a demon who feeds on fear. IT was banished to earth and wakes every 27 to 30 years to terrorize kids and feast upon their flesh, which tastes better to him when they are afraid. He can take any form but uses the clown because children are more easily frightened than adults. In the novel the clown is evil, alien, and other worldly. Something timeless and ageless, something eternal that can be stopped for a while but not destroyed. The portrayal of Pennywise in the original movie did not follow the book as well as the 2017 ... The TIP Report Though understanding the root causes of a problem and proper management of victims and affected persons are both important determinants in a global campaign s success, one of the most influential factor lies with the reaction of the global community and foreign policy. In order to effect change, the issues raised by the campaign must resonate with the international community, especially with people in developed nations and those in power. Relating this to the case of human trafficking, the studies and field of research on the issue have dramatically increased since 2000, due to an increased amount of attention drawn to the global living standards, and creation of NGO s such as the United Nations. • 35. Virtue Theory And Abortion By Rosalind Hursthouse PHI 107 Essay Assignment 11/24/15 Katelalyn Miller Virtue Theory is one of many different moral theories that exist today. It is based off of Aristotle s Virtue Ethics which focuses on having an ideal character. The main focus of Virtue Theory is the role of one s character, which is closely related to its roots in Aristotle. A Virtue Theorist would do things because it is who they themselves are, not because it is good to do them or because they will get something good from doing them. In the article, Virtue Theory and Abortion , by Rosalind Hursthouse, she explains her view on abortion without trying to solve the issue of if it is right or wrong. She, with the use of Virtue Theory, simply says that an action is right only if a virtuous agent would do it were they in the same circumstances. She goes on explaining how a Virtue Theorist needs to apply if actions are honest/dishonest and charitable/uncharitable; without doing this then Virtue Theory would be of no use with real moral issues because of a lack of argument. Hursthouse says that there are two main things taken into consideration when speaking of the morality of abortion. The first thing is the status of the fetus, meaning whether or not it is a conscious being and if it may or may not be killed. The second thing is women s rights, if a woman has the right to choose what is best for her own body and mind over the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Essay on Emily Bronte s Wuthering Heights Wuthering Heights: A Great Romantic Novel The Romantic Period was a very imaginative and creative period of thinking. The literature produced during this period reflected this wild and free spirited imagination. The works dismissed the Enlightenment thinkers in their claims of Reason, progress, and universal truths (Damrosch, 1317). Instead, these writers explored superstitions and had a renewed sense of passion for the wild, the unfamiliar, the irregular, and the irrational (Damrosch, 1317). Other common elements of the writing during this period were the returned interest of gothic romance elements, a fascination of exploring the inner world of the mind and the unconscious into its dark side, an interest in emotional ... These include things like Nature vs. Civilization, the Wild vs. the Tame, the Deep and Elemental vs. the Superficial and Impermanent, and Natural Impulses vs. Artificial Restraint (Agatucci, 4). All of these different elements are combined into this one novel, showing the avant garde genius of Emily Bronte. She was a very creative innovator full of an incredibly gifted imagination and otherworldy sense for the supernatural ghosts of the past and the hidden personal demons found deep in the unconscious mind, which she displays in the character of Heathcliff especially. Heathcliff starts out in the story as the most outcast of the outcast. He is picked up and adopted from the streets of Liverpool by the head of the household on one of his journeys to town he takes every once in a while. He starts out as this ugly and hideous creature who is ridiculed and beaten by the other kids in the house. He finds one true playmate and friend in the rambunctious Cathy, who is a free spirit that falls in love with his mysterious character. This relationship becomes forbidden however when the father dies and the oldest son takes over the household. Heathcliff is banished from the house eventually, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These consist of Bodhisattva torsos, heads, and even rock reliefs. In the earlier Kushan period, the head sculptures had traces of an adorned look and feel to it but was still pretty simplified. They displayed the sculpture relatively flat on the front and the back of the head with open eyes and the fleshy lips. A suggestion of braiding around the forehead gives the sense of the Bodhisattva wearing a turban, and of course the heavy spiral earrings. All these features appeared around the first century. The knowledge of Stanislaw J. Since then, gerrymandering has been used to gain partisan advantage and to shape the political projections of politicians and racial and ethnic groups. The two most common gerrymandering techniques include packing and cracking, disappointingly both waste valuable votes in doing so. Packing has both an offensive and defensive strategy. Offensively, packing is to fill a district with many voters of one type to create a safe seat; typically used in partisan gerrymandering. Defensively, packing is to compress voters of one type into as few districts as possible to dilute their influence elsewhere. However, cracking is to spread as many voters of one type into as many districts as possible to dilute their influence; typically used in racial gerrymandering. Partisan and Racial gerrymandering are two common forms of gerrymandering. Partisan gerrymandering is the manipulation of districts to increase members of a specific party by drawing district lines on the basis of party identification. Racial gerrymandering is drawing district lines on the basis of race; possibly leading to a majority minority district. The Haydn Symphony 94 follows a form that works for it with each of the four movements have an expressive section then a rhythmic section. Also, during the second movement which is a theme and variation he repeated both themes but the second time he would use a drastic dynamic change. (Criterion #1) Within movement 2 Haydn uses dynamic contrast frequently. The first 15 measures of the piece are a succession of soft melodies then in the 16th measure Haydn places a loud note to grab the attention of the audience then he returns to his quiets melodies. Haydn also wrote solos for the oboist and flautist, and concluding with a sweeping and lyrical forte repeat in triplets (Symphonyno.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Criterion #2) Movement 2 shows that Haydn use the different instruments families to add different colors to each section of the piece. He starts this movement with the strings having the main theme then adding the woodwinds to the main theme and to the accompanying parts. At certain parts of the movement he has all instruments playing some form of the main theme. We can also here that the main theme has moved from the high voices to the low voices throughout the movement. By the end of the movement the we have the woodwinds completely taking over the melody while the stings are playing the accompanying parts. (Criterion #3) Within the second movement of the symphony there is this one loud note or chord among a group of soft chords. Once the audience has heard this once or twice they come to predict the note because the previous nots grabbed our attention. (Criterion #4) The expressive introduction section of movement 1 is followed by the very rhythmic section. This shows that the music is not obvious and direct but it does set up the following movements form wise. (Criterion ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There have been suggestions that this is an issue that individuals should face on a personal level; however, it is a social problem that warrants broad level support in addressing. The case can be made that solving the social problem requires a process that includes implementing vigorous steps towards reducing common cultural misconceptions of how victims experience domestic abuse. Both methods are designed to maximise business potential through better organisation, but they differ greatly in the way they seek to achieve it. Scientific Management represents an organisation centred approach that is based on improving worker output through optimised technical methods and strict management. The Human Relations Approach focuses on the workers themselves and suggests strong worker relationships, recognition and achievement are motivators for increased productivity (Daft, 2006). Large manufacturing businesses such as Ford and General Motors were experiencing rapid expansion and were looking to management methods to increase output and focus the efficiency of their workers. Many of Taylor s principles were adopted in factory production and throughout the 20th century the application of scientific principles had a marked affect on productivity. Ironically, as a result of increased production, the general standard of living improved and so did worker dissatisfaction with the method. Union management and a popular interest in the human factor (by behavioural scientists) resulted in a productivity slowdown. This prompted organisations to relocate their work force to developing countries with cheaper labour, a mirror of the original conditions that allowed scientific management to thrive in the west (Oman, 2000). Organisations were now looking to new management methods to satisfy the increasing needs of their workforce and regain productivity and many found it in the form of the Human Relations Approach (Wilson 1990). The Human Relations Approach represents a significant departure from the automated and dehumanized approach of Scientific Management. Where Scientific Management concentrates on technique and output, the Human Relations Approach focuses on the individual and organisational change through human interactions (Baldridge 1972).
