Michelangelo, A Biography Essay
Michelangelo Buonarroti was born on March 6, 1475. He lived almost a full century and died
on February 18, 1564; he was still working six days before his death. During his life, the western
world underwent what was perhaps the most remarkable period of change since the decline of the
Roman Empire. The Renaissance saw changes in all aspects of life and culture, with dramatic
reforms sweeping through the worlds of religion, politics, and scientific belief. Michelangelo was
one of the advocates of this new philosophy, while creating some of the most beautiful and very
famous artwork pieces ever created.
He was born at Caprese, in Tuscany, he was the second of five sons of Lodovico di Leonardo (a
civil servant) and Francesca ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Other influences on his young mind included two members of the church: one was his local priest
and the other was an opinionated monk named Fra Girolamo Savonarola.
Michelangelo first heard Savonarola preach in 1492, the year in which his first patron, Lorenzo de
Medici, died and Michelangelo returned to his father s home. The monk s sermons and his
subsequent violent death had a lifelong effect on the artist and many of his works; the loss of
Lorenzo also deeply affected his artistic consciousness.
At the age of 21, he made his first trip to Rome, a city that was both to play a prominent part in
his life and create many frustrations for him. This time he spent five years in the city, creating
some of his best known works. In 1496 97, he completed his first important commission, Bacchus. (
Martindale 78)
In 1497 98, Michelangelo created the Pieta, a masterpiece of sculpture that could not be further
removed in content from the witty Bacchus. The Pieta is heralded as one of his greatest
achievements. The sorrowing face of Mary, contemplating the lifeless body of her eldest child, still
wrings the heart today. He took the subject out of a religious context and placed it in a humanist
light emphasizing the grief of Mary and the mortality of her dead son.
On August 16, 1501, the new republic commissioned Michelangelo to make the statue of David.
He was asked to sculpt it from a single block of marble. David is

La Raza Character Analysis
Like the Chicano character, the La Raza personality rose up out of the historical backdrop of
political, financial, and social disappointment of Mexicans in the United States and their ensuing
social activism (Gutierrez, 1995; Ochoa, 2004). The term was initially used to affirm that the mix
of Native American and European societies created a capable and even predominant raza cosmica
(astronomical race) (Vasconcelos, 1997). The 1960s Chicanodevelopment grasped a politicized
Raza personality that underlined the indigenous parts of their legacy and de stressed European
segments (Oropeza, 2005). In late decades, the term Raza has turned out to be more
comprehensive, mirroring the way that Hispanic/Latinos are a blend of a large portion of the
world s races, societies, and religions (Vasconcelos, 1997). The historical backdrop of
sociopolitical challenge implanted in the term, in any case, stays remarkable for some who

The Growth of the Asian Economy
Asian Economy: The growth of the Asian Economy has had positive structural effects on the
Australian Economy. The trade volumes are at record high levels with China and the appreciation
of the exchange rates have provided a boost to the economy. There has also been a rise in the
resource investment, which has seen a reallocation of factors of production, which has lead to
employment growth in these sectors. The focus of the Asian economies is on the production and
consumption of goods and the commodity intensive nature of this rise has led to an increase in
commodity prices. This has led to an increase in the productive capacity, which supports the
exports, employment, incomes, taxes and wealth of the Australian population. The strength of the
resource sector has had a positive effects on the exchange rate which when combined with the stable
inflation rate has led to a significant increase in wage dollar of the working population (Plumb,

leads to many different market structures. There are large factories or plants, almost every chain
fast food restaurant, nicer sit down restaurants, mom and pop shops, along with our share of Wal

competitive and thriving with a strong economical foundation fueled by a good sized population
to keep many businesses from having to look too far for employees. New businesses have opened
recently and are thriving. With keeping a good mix of market structures the economy will
continue to grow. Multiple market structures will help to create a thriving economy, although they
are all different, they provide income to the city in way of taxes, employment to our citizens, and
understanding how each operates and prices their goods can help this city prepare for its financial
future. We will need to analyze each market separately to show the differences and the similarities
so as to understand their effects on the community and whether they allow room for entry and exit
of new firms in order to grow our city economically. There are four market structures that I will

TASK ONE According to my point of view, franchising is simply a technique for extending a
business and distributing goods and services through a permitting relationship. It is a type of
business that is owned and operated by franchisees but that is branded and overseen by a usually
national or multinational company. Franchise is a business that you see in different cities. They
are recognizable because their company logo and products are same. A franchise is a type of

For data gathering, a communication study was used in the form of a survey. Ex post facto
extent of control was used since Penton Media can t change the results and have to report the
results they receive. The purpose was chosen as a reporting study as they are compiling data and
providing a summary of the survey results. This study s time frame is cross sectional with a
survey being sent out once for the formal results. The topical scope is statistical because it wants
to compare characteristics and draw conclusions. Field conditions were used in this study because
there is no change in the surveyor s environment. Finally, the participant s perceptions are not
changed and they are aware of the research being conducted. Strengths The strength of this study is
in the ex post facto design where Penton Media has to report from the survey results. There is no
way that Penton Media can change or modify the results so this makes the research more reliable
and dependable. Another strength is that the participant s environment and perceptions aren t
changed or affected. This makes for more honest and trustworthy results. Weaknesses A
communication study is great for the research question that Penton Media is trying to answer.
However, they could also get more data from their advertisers. Since many companies keep a

Humor in French Literature at the Turn of the 20th Century
Behind humor in the French literature at the turn of the 20th century The French literature is one of
the most interesting compilations of cultural expression on the European continent. Unlike other
types of literature, the French one enables the reader to experience not only a literary expression of
feelings and emotions but, at the same time, it creates a sense of introduction in the world of the
authors and in the environment in which these authors create. The French literature, with sufficient
examples to provide, has to a certain extent, increased the reading experience through a different
sense of intimacy that exists between the writer and its audience, regardless of the writer s appetite
for traditional literature of application of standard techniques. There are numerous examples to
provide in this sense. However, from the 20th century literature there are several that stand out
through the way in which stories are told and the use of language and character construction. These
include Ubu the Kind by Alfred Jarry (1896), My Father s Glory by Marcel Pagnol, (1957), and
The other woman by Colette (1924). They are all different in the sense that they tend to deal with
aspects that of particular interest for the time in which they were written, but, to a certain extend,
they share in common the deep consideration for the human soul and, through different means of
expression, provide different perspectives of the human soul. All these three examples have in

The Symbolism Of The Unicorn In Captivity
Sometimes when you look at a piece of art, you cannot quickly and directly understand the
meaning behind it. And there s nothing to panic about because with the help of symbols or
iconography, the message behind the piece or artwork may just be revealed. Iconography, stated
by the book, is a system of symbols that allow artists and designers to refer to complex ideas.
Iconography is seen a lot through cultures and religions, for example, in medieval Christian
symbolism, the unicorn symbolized Jesus. This is seen in The Unicorn in Captivity, and if you
look closely into the artwork, you may see red juice dripping from different spots on the unicorn.
This red juice also connects with the symbolism of the unicorn and Jesus; do you know what it
may represent? If you guessed Christ s sacrifice, you are on the right path. So, even the smallest

Compared to The Unicorn in Captivity, Yama has smaller and more detailed pieces that
symbolize ideas. We can see that Yama has a crown, with skulls, as well as many sets of jewelry,
representing power and possibly wealth. In addition, he is standing over a man, and as seen in
the man s facial expression, Yama is brutally crushing him. Surrounding Yama, especially near
the top, are holy figures praying, buffalo headed Yamas, fire, and many more skulls. Lastly,
Yama s facial expression and his stance expresses to us he is angry and because his posture is
diagonal, it shows he is in movement. Yama is possibly a warrior or a ruler defending his
authority. Looking closer into a piece of art and seeing the visual symbols can definitely help you
understand the content because in reality Yama is the Indian god of death, as we can see with the
multiple skulls placed on him as well as surrounding him. And as it tells us more in the book, Yama
is fighting against demons, such as hatred and lust, as I stated by looking at his

The Effects Of Advertising On Society Essay
The Effects of Advertising on Society
Fr. Kavanaugh was on the mark when describing the effects of advertising on society. Our moral
values are being degraded by the bombardment of impropriety by the media. Adler would be
quick in pointing out the reason why these messages have such a negative effect on people. There
are two main tactics advertisers use to sell their product: either imply that their product will bring
about the achievement of a particular (usually real) good, or make their product the object of
desire, therefore making it an apparent good to people. The problem with associating products with
the achievement of a good lies more in the realm of truth than in good, because it lies in whether ...

Though these products are by no means needs, the associations make people believe that the
advertised product embodies the good they need, and to achieve that good they must buy the
product. Companies don t advertise perfumes, for example; they advertise relationships. They don
t advertise clothing; they advertise independence. Slowly, as people hear these messages more
and more, they start associating more importance to the product than to the good involved, like a
sort of idol worship and here is where the real problems set in. Now that advertisers have people
sold on the product, they can influence people s desires.
This is what Fr. Kavanaugh saw when he said that advertising is damaging society s moral values.
Calvin Klein, for example, has already become one of those companies whose product has become
more important than the good they represent in other words, Calvin Klein products are now in and
of themselves the good some people try to achieve. Thus, when their ads show immoral situations or
actions (like the infamous child pornography ads that spurred many debates and a lawsuit against
the company), people associate these immoral actions with the quot;good quot; Calvin Klein
products, and people will slowly grow desensitized to them. Advertising, therefore, plays a notable
role in the moral growth or stunting

Jacob, as God Almighty, but by my name the LORD I did not make myself known to them. I also
established my covenant with them to give them the land of Canaan, the land in which they lived
as sojourners. Moreover, I have heard the groaning of the people of Israel whom the Egyptians

because the government forced the Blackfeet to depend on the government, the Dawes Severalty

allowed the US government to their land. Instead of paying the Blackfeet with money the

Canadian Politics In Western Canada
Introduction: Canadian politics has always been defined by the federal government s interactions
with the various regions and provinces within Canada. Over time, Canadian politics has evolved to
be focused on three individual issues: the federal government s attempt to keep Quebec within the
federation, the economic, political, and cultural dominance of Ontario, and, from a Western
Canadian point of view, the subordination of the West. The popularity of the latter notion has
become increasingly prominent within the Western provinces over the previous decades, due to the
government s focus on the former two issues. And, for many Western Canadians, their relationship

The Imperfection Of The Greek Parthenon
The Athenian Greeks at the height of their power built a temple called the Parthenon which was a
monument to their core values of perfectionism, humanism, and rationalism. It is important to
understand that the human eye has imperfections which deceive the mind, so one can understand
the unique steps that were taken to achieve the illusion of perfection to the human eye. The Greeks
loved perfection, and as seen in the Parthenon, the Greek architects purposely made the Parthenon
imperfect to account for the imperfections in the human eye. This was done so that when one
views the Parthenon with the naked eye, it appears to be perfectly symmetrical, straight, and
proportional. The entire Parthenon does not have a single right angle. An example of the
Greeks compensating for the imperfections of the human eye is seen in the base of the
Parthenon, which from a picture or in real life looks perfectly straight, but in reality it is actually
curved slightly upward. It is curved because the Greeks knew that if you have a perfectly flat
base for a building, it appears curved to the human eye. To account for that, the Greeks made it so
that the base was already curved. The Greeks also curved the columns of the Parthenon inward,
because if the columns were straight, it would appear to be curving outward. Again, the Greeks
knew about how the human eye deceives the mind, and decided that they must trick the eye to
please the mind. This was all done because the Greeks strived for

Analysis Of Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas
The Quest to Nowhere
The novel Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas by Hunter S Thompson, tells a story of two gentlemen
who take a drug filled trip to Las Vegas. First and foremost, this novel was written to entertain the
audience, but upon the application of critical thinking, persuasion begins to become a purpose.
Throughout the novel, the irrational lifestyle of a drug binge is often glamourized. Thompson also
uses his descriptive choice of words to express his world view of society, during the sixties. The
reader can imagine what each event taking place would have looked like though Raoul Duke s
eyes. Many individuals sought to live the comfortable American dream lifestyle, but what is the
American dream? Throughout the novel Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas the reader is swept into an
ironic and descriptive journey, influencing the reader to feel enlightened on the subject of drugs.
The power of words is undeniable, and can translate the authors beliefs in way that will influence
the reader s beliefs. When the description of an event is so detailed that the reader is able to
close their eyes and picture it, the impact on the reader will be significant. Thompson says, My
legs felt rubbery. I gripped the desk and sagged toward her as she held the envelope, but I refused
to accept it. The woman s face was changing: swelling, pulsing ... horrible green jowls and fangs
jutting out, the face of a Moray Eel! Deadly poison! (24). Here, Thompson is describing the

Mind In Hegel s Decade Of The Brain
Our modern understanding of the human mind is much different than it was in the 17th to 19th
century, all the results from scientific research on brain studies during the Decade of the Brain.
Before, Mind was viewed as a real object but now we realize that people process information
somewhere, someplace in the brain. It was a creator of ideas with the personality. Today we realize
that it is what the rain does, an expression of neural networks processing information. And indeed
computer programs are being built to emulate that process. It is not an ethereal entity that can create
memories nor complete pictures on a scratchpad but along neural fibers that reconstruct outlines of
pictures. There are various states of consciousness and using language we hypothesize ideas, which
are then checked out on the opposite side of the brain against reality. And sometimes the physiology
falters and Mindgoes berserk. But what that describes is a natural process with information
provided from the senses. It is not in communication with higher beings. It is simply engaged in
working out problems. Mind is thus a process and in fact dialectics is the very process that
engages Mind. Self recognition that Hegel had in his mind was looking for what was outside the...

Technology And Design Of The Kodak Camera

Every year, the Kodak Company releases a better lensed camera featuring better technology and

I would adjust the my father s collar before he left the house, note the stain on my mother s cutlery,

At this point, the Kodak 35 I had received from my father as a gift during my eighth birthday was
no longer effective. I needed an upgrade and therefore decided to conduct an online research for
one that would perform better. During my research, I made two conflicting realizations. First, the
Kodak Company had begun developing digital cameras but the company was also facing the risk
of bankruptcy due to low sales. Nonetheless, I was able to upgrade to the Kodak DC25 digital
camera. Although it came at a high price, it was an opportunity to improve the quality of my

By the time I was getting to my middle teenage years, I had used four different types of cameras.
Out of the three cameras, two were Kodak (already mentioned) while the rest were the Canon

skills to a higher level. Today, there are more advance versions of each brand. With increasing

Rosetta Stone Case Study Essay
Case #3: Rosetta Stone
1. By going public Rosetta Stone would be able to obtain the capital required to expand the
business and enter new markets. Another advantage of going public is the ability for Rosetta
Stone to increase its brand s image, awareness, and reputation. An IPO could be a good move
because of the increased globalization occurring that has led to more and more people learning
needing or wanting to learn different languages. Going public as the economy is just coming out
of its recession could prove to be advantageous for Rosetta Stone. The case gave the example of

Finally they could form strategic alliances with other companies in the industry.
3. If I were part of the underwriting syndicate I would recommend a price of $21 for the offering.
While the underwriters have given a range of $15 17 per share, I believe that Rosetta Stone will
follow suit with the two other companies that went public during the year and experience a large
price jump on the first day of trading. A higher initial offering will make it look better for the
underwriters, so they are not accused of severely underpricing the shares.
4. The article said that K12 was the closest comparable company to Rosetta Stone. Rosetta Stone
is marketable to a larger consumer base than K12, so I think that it should be able to charge a
higher IPO. The case said that book was more than 25 times oversubscribed during its road show
which means Rosetta Stone could charge a much higher price. But these subscriptions are
volatile and the economy is recovering, so a price too high could deter many investors. For my
analysis I took the EBITDA margin for years 2006 2008 and found the average increase during
that time to be 9.93%. I then took the estimated share value from 2008 and multiplied it by
1.0993 to factor in the average increase in share value. This resulted in a price of $19.22. Given
this number I would increase the current range from $15 17 to $19 24. The reason for the
increased range is because of the

Political and Economic Liberalism
Political liberalism emphasizes the social contract, in which citizens make the laws and they all
agree to abide by those laws. It is supported on the belief that individuals know what is best for
them. Political liberalism grants political representation to all adult citizens regardless of sex, race,
or financial status. It highlights the rule of law and favors liberal democracy. It works on the
principle that individuals are the foundation of rules and civilization. Furthermore, society and its
organizations are created and subsist to advance the goals and achievements of individuals, devoid
of additional support to elite members of society. Economic liberalismsupports the individual rights

We cannot survive without a social contract. There would be constant war because of the
development of men s acquirement of property. Rousseau summarizes this in his Discourse on
Political Economy. You need me, for I am rich and you are poor. Let us come to an agreement
between ourselves. I will permit you to have the honor of serving me, provided you give me
what little you have for the trouble I will be taking to command you. (p. 134) He explains the
negative aspects of personal tax and why political and economic liberalism benefits society. When
people feel they are treated well by their governments, they are more likely to be civil to each other
which is why it is necessary for governments to make sure they maintain individual liberty, peace,
security, and property rights, and their interferences are kept to a bare minimum. John Locke
believes there is a natural law, a moral standard that is intrinsic in the origin of human nature.
Humans, being basically good by nature, are born equal and free, with out the ties of
government. Because humans were in essence good, there was no need of a government.
However, as time passed, the need for the benefits of civility became necessary. It is at this point
that people agree to leave the state of nature, and thereby give up their absolute freedom. Locke
focuses mainly on the lack of any natural moral authority of one person over another. No one is
born master, or captain, or chief, of any other

Advantages Of Drug Delivery System
Transmucosal route of drug delivery is widely accepted as a suitable way for administration of
drugs via buccal mucosa for local and systemic applications. Compared to other transmucosal
routes, buccal mucosa is approximately an immobile, highly accessible mucosa that characterized

including the direct entry to the systemic circulation through the internal jugular vein avoiding first

In the recent years, TRI is extensively studied as a potential anticancer candidate which
demonstrated activity against different cancer cell lines including, non small cell lung cancer
A549cells6 human prostate cancer7, melanoma 8 breast cancer MCF 7cell 9 and pancreatic
cancer cells 10. However, the clinical use of TRI is hampered by its low aqueous solubility
(13.25В±0.83 Вµg/mL at 37В°C) and poor intestinal absorption which lead to its low oral
bioavailability. All these obstacles make the oral route not the best one for TRI administration;
therefore switch to another route of administration seems to be a promising approach.
Among different novel drug delivery systems, phytosomes are well known as biocompatible
nanocarriers that have been used to improve solubility and permeability of different
phytopharmaceuticals. They are considered as self assembled nanocarriers that based on
phospholipid complexation approach. This type of complexation involved formation of hydrogen
bonding between the polar head of phospholipid and the drug polar moieties. Such bonding imparts
phytosomes superior stability profile than other vesicular phospholipid based systems like
liposomes. Additionally, phospholipids can promote drug permeation through buccal mucosa by
virtue of their solubilizing action as well as their essential role in maintaining cell membrane
fluidity. However, up to our knowledge, no study has

Intersectionality Of Black Males Essay

However, Critical Race Theory defines this occurrence as the failure to see the intersectionality of
African Americans. Intersectionality is the concept that no one has a simple, uncomplicated

The Industrial Revolution Of The Middle East
For millennia mankind has exhausted endless amounts of energy contemplating the eternally
complicated system of war. From Gangas Khan to America s involvement in the Middle East, all
successful generals, military leaders, and conquerors have found commonality in their zealous
emphasis on, and desire for, possessing the most technologically advanced forms of weaponry. Such
a desire was not ignored in America nor England during the Industrial Revolution, but, rather, was
seen by many as an opportune investment during a time of extraordinarily progressive innovation.
With this in mind the Industrial Revolution became heavily involved with the advancement of
weaponry, forever changing the face of warunlike any era before it.
The industrial revolution was a time of great change for both Europe and America. Inventions
during this time (such as the cotton gin, the steam engine, sewing machine) stemmed from a
seemingly never ending flow of revelation in thought. Thus, paving the way for a more advanced
and technological society. This was a time of great accomplishment. With the drastic advancement
of economic and technological innovation came the traumatic realization of necessary social
adaptation; a change that did not come easy for such a progressive society. The upper class became
more wealthy as the number of impoverished citizens increased.
Britain set an appropriate stage for the industrial revolution to take place. Britain was a politically
stable society and was the

Comparing The Bluest Eye And Bastard Out Of Carolina
The two novels The Bluest Eye and Bastard Out of Carolina touches on issues dealing with race,
class, and abuse. The two main characters in the novels, Pecola Breedlove and Ruth Anne Bone
Boatwright are completely opposite in looks, but suffer from the same trauma as a child.

each one affects different parts of how they view themselves. Last, I will explore why child abuse
is still a problem that affects several children and how our society encourages certain behaviors
towards children that reinforces abuse. Sexual, physical, and emotional abuse does not have a
specific identity.
The most prominent difference between Pecola and Bone is their physical appearance. Pecola is
a dark skinned Black girl with curly black hair from Lorain, Ohinto. On the other hand, Bone is a
white, skinny girl with straight black hair from Greenville, South Carolina. Since both girls are

Imperialism In World History
Imperialism is a major part of world history. It has created borders, wars, and nations with its

Emily Dickinson s Poetry Essay
The large amount of poems in Dickinson s collection containing the theme of death is impossible to
be overlooked. Approximately one third from her entire collection speaks about the subject,
something that for many decades has intrigued fans and scholars alike. In order to understand this

the center of this fascination with the theme of death.
Consider by many as the best and least known major American author (Eberwein 1), Dickinson love

Before Lieutenant Cross had entered the war he was fine and acted to situations as if anyone

Personal Experience
Personal Experience 2:35 a.m. Even though it was something that I had experienced before, the
pain still took me my surprise. And it was only the beginning. I had finally fallen asleep around
midnight. My parents had come down to Indiana for a weekend visit and we had stayed up a
little late enjoying our visit with each other after the boys had gone to bed. There were two
bedrooms in my little apartment and I had given them the use of mine, deciding to sleep with my
two children in the other room. Being two weeks overdue with my third child and still working
full time as a waitress, I practically passed out when my head finally touched the pillow. That is,
until a bad cramp woke me from my peaceful slumber. Still groggy from... Show more content on

And that s the time when everything suddenly becomes clear. No matter what happens to me in
this world I have wonderful parents who will always be there for me. My children, whether with
me or their father, will always want and need me. It doesn t really matter where they live, or who
they live with. They will always need their mother, just as I still need mine. Nothing in life is
certain, except that there will be both good times and bad. And how you handle the bad
determines how many good times there will be. I finally realized that I didn t need a man to make
me complete, for I could do that all on my own. All I need is my family and God and all else will

Comparing Ulysses by Lord Tennyson and My Last Duchess by...
Comparing Ulysses by Lord Tennyson and My Last Duchess by Robert
Browning.
Ulysses was written by Lord Tennyson and is a poem about a mythical
Greek character and is a dramatic monologue. Another poem that is a dramatic monologue is My
Last Duchess , by Robert Browning. Both poems are similar, for example they are both structured
similarly, and are both different, one difference being their subject. In this essay
I will compare the two poems, focusing on form, and how language helps to build up subject matter.
Ulysses is a Greek mythical character, and was famous for being a pirate, ransacking villages and
being a warrior. In Greek literature,
Ulysses just seemed to disappear after he got home, and Tennyson decided to ... Show more content

These adjectives create an understanding of what life is like for Ulysses, and this is then
contrasted with words of his past such as roaming ,
ringing and windy . These words create a contrast between the activeness of the past, and the
stillness of the present. This helps the reader imagine what life was like for the character when he
was young. The words associated with the past are positive, whereas the words associated with the
present are negative, helping the reader to understand how Ulysses feels about the present. Line 2o
Gleams that untravelled world whose margin fades shows how Ulysses believes that he still can go
out and do things, as no matter how much he has done, he cannot have done everything. This line is
important, as Gleams leaves the reader with the impression that it is almost tempting to
Ulysses to go and live like he did in the past.
In My Last Duchess , Browning allows the reader to understand the
Duke through what he is saying and what he is doing. The first two lines introduce us to the main
topic of the Duke s speech which is a painting of his last wife. The lines: That s my last Duchess
painted on the wall, looking as if she were alive hint to us that the duchess is not alive anymore, but
Browning has made us unsure, and therefore invites us to read more into the poem. Browning
engages the reader by inviting them to make their own judgements about the Duke, and hinting on

Waldenstrom Macroglobulinemia Essay
Waldenstrom macroglobulinemia (WM), also known as lymphoplasmacytic lymphoma, is a
type of low grade non Hodgkin lymphoma characterized by bone marrow infiltration with
lymphomasmacytic cells. WM was named after Jan Waldenstrom, a Swedish doctor who came
across the disease and labeled the disorder in 1944. It is an incurable, rare disease affecting 1 in
3 million people with a medial life span of 5 9 years after it is diagnosed. The cause of this
disease is unknown but recent indications and research show that the cause can be due to changes
in the DNA. Age and gender are the main factors with most occurrences in men over 50. WM s
cancercells are similar to multiple myeloma except that WM has lymphocyte features that are not
present in multiple... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Prognosis is influenced by factors such as how advanced the disease is at diagnosis, and how
rapidly it is advancing. Effective treatments are traditional chemotherapy agents such as
chlorambucil, cyclophosphamide and melphalan. These can be given as a single agent or
combination with others such as rituximab. This monoclonal antibody has been found to be
effective. Because WM is a rare disease, there are minimal research trials to support this disease.
But none the less, there are clinical trials available. Ongoing research has introduced new therapies
including inhibitors and alkylating agents. These ongoing clinical trials have shown that when
compared to conventional chemotherapy agents, can not only treat the symptoms of the disease,
but also continue to further medicine s knowledge as to patient s prognosis while providing
patients increased therapeutic efficacy, longer remissions and most important, a better quality of
life. Stem cell transplant is also an option. This process involves removal of blood forming stem
cells which are restored to the patient following chemotherapy treatment while the transplanted
cells return to the bone marrow and produce new blood cells. Another option for patients with a
swollen spleen is the removal of the spleen. This would also help stabilize and stop the progression

Entertainment During The Great Depression Essay
The average person working in the movie business in the 1930s made about $92,500 as someone
working a moderate job only made about $890 a year, equally (COH) about $12,500 today.
Throughout the Great Depression entertainment was an escape for people in America, which still
continues to be used today.
During the Great Depression entertainment such as movies, music/radio, and dancing provided
people with and escape from the harsh realities of what was going on around them. As for movies,
while (SUB) people in the 1930s were struggling because of their loss of jobs. Hollywood had
entered what was called the golden age ( Popular 2), the Hollywood golden age lasted from 1930
1950, and consisted of people and new movies flourishing due to people s lack of work and extra
free time, popular examples of movies include: Snow White and the Seven dwarfs, The Wizard
of Oz , King Kong, Frankenstein , and Dracula. New people, specifically child star Shirley
Temple ( The 1930s 1) played a key role by influencing the younger population. Even though
movies were popular, they had to appeal to a mass audience in order to stay running ( The 1930s
1), in that sense cartoons and family friendly movies we re most popular. The air conditioned
theaters also provided people with a luxury outside of their homes for a couple hours, after all
seeing a movie only cost a person $0.27 ( Popular 1) opposed to the average price today of $8.61.

Compare And Contrast Eukaryotic And Photosynthesis
When comparing photosynthesis and cellular respiration in prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells you
must first understand what the two are and why they are important. Photo meaning light and
synthesis meaning making. So, photosynthesis is converting sunlight into a chemical energy
source. Mostly to obtain energy is its main purpose, but there is a formula to follow when dealing
with photosynthesis. The formula is carbon dioxideplus water with the presence of chlorophyll and
sunlight reacting to glucose giving you glucose, water, and oxygen. There are two stages of
photosynthesis and they are light dependent and the light independent meaning exactly what they
sound like one is dependent on sunlight and the other simply doesn t need sunlight. The... Show

Or receive energy. The process of occurs when plants absorb energy from the sun then that energy
is transferred to humans and animals. Photosynthesis occurs in eukaryotic cells by Chloroplast.
Chloroplast is known as plastid meaning storing materials for energy production. Chloroplasts
main job is for making amino acids and lipids needed for production. Algae is a good example of
where you can find chloroplast. When looking at chloroplast the appearance would be a green
pigment known as chlorophyll. Chlorophyll absorbs light energy for production. In plant
chloroplast which are commonly found in plant leaves have different structures each of them being
important. The membrane envelope contains lipids for protection, and keeping chloroplast closed
regulates what goes in and out of the cell. The system that converts light energy to chemical energy
is through the function thylakoid system. The fluid that is inside the membrane envelope and the
outside of the thylakoid is called the stroma. The chloroplast has mainly two steps in the process of
photosynthesis in plant cells. The first one is energy transferring known as the light dependent or
light reactions. the second step is carbon fixation reactions known as the dark reactions. The three
products of energy transfer are

Alcatraz Prison
Alcatraz was a prison, that was in use from 1934 to 1963. It housed some of the worldВґs most
dangerous criminals over the span of twenty nine years. I chose to write about Alcatraz because
I like the history of weird and creepy places, which Alcatraz is. Alcatraz is creepy because there
are many claims that people have heard the cries and moans in cell blocks A, B, and C. I also
chose to write about this because I wanted to learn more about Alcatraz. Someday I want to go
there. This essay will explain why an Army prisonwas turned into a federal penitentiary on Alcatraz
Island, who were some famous inmates that once occupied a cell there and, it will detail some of
the attempted escapes from Alcatraz.
In 1933, the U.S. Army relinquished control of the island of Alcatraz to the U.S. Justice Department
(History.com). At that time the federal government wanted a federal prison that could house a
criminal population [that was] too difficult or dangerous to be handled by other U.S. penitentiaries
(History.com). The main reason that Alcatraz was turned into a federal prison is because escape
was thought to be impossible (History.com). Alcatraz was made more secure than it already was to
prevent escapes following construction to make the prison safer. ... Show more content on

The American Red Cross Disaster Services Team
Introduction Throughout the semester, I have been able to volunteer for the American Red Cross
Disaster Services Team. This has been one of the most beneficial volunteer opportunities that I
have ever accomplished. As an American Red Cross of Georgia Major Gift Officer, this volunteer
experience allowed me to gain knowledge in a department that serves as the backbone of the
American Red Cross. As a nonprofit fundraiser, it is difficult to truly see the mission that your
team raises money for every single day. Fundraisers at the American Red Cross are trained as
sales people, and before this volunteer experience I had never even been on a Red Cross disaster
response call. Throughout the duration of the semester, I was able to gain true insight into the core
of the organization and mission. This opportunity allowed me to not only enhance my career at the
American Red Cross, but gave me a 360 degree view of the entire organization and the
fundamentals of the Red Cross mission.
Red Cross Mission and History The American Red Cross exists to provide compassionate care to
those in need primarily during times of disaster. The American Red Cross mission is to prevent
and alleviate human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers
and the generosity of donors (American Red Cross). The organization focuses on five key service
areas:
1.People affected by disasters in America
2.Support for members of the military and their families

Walter Moss An Age Of Progress Analysis
Today, most people take electricity for granted, especially in the United States and other developed
countries of the world. According to Walter Moss in his book, An Age of Progress?, Clashing
Twentieth Century Global Forces, during the twentieth century, perhaps no other technological
advancement, even the automobile, affected the people of the world more than electricity.
Electricity would become the foundation for the development of new technological advancements
in industries such as agriculture, health and science, environment, and technology. Production and
consumption in all these industries would continue to rise throughout the century with reliance on
electricity to flourish.
The widespread use of electricity started towards the end of the nineteenth century. At first
electricity, both in the United States and abroad, was used primarily for lighting streets, operating
public transit, and by stores, restaurants, and other commercial and industrial enterprises. The use
of oil and candles were still the typical way many people lit ... Show more content on

The development of high yield crops have saved huge areas of forests and other environmentally
fragile lands that would otherwise have been needed for farming. For example, in Asia cereal
production doubled between 1970 and 1975, yet the total land area cultivated with cereals
increased by only 4 percent. The passing of laws like the Clean Water Act of 1972 that took steps
to insure the increased use of fertilizers and pesticides would not end up in the waterways that so
many people rely on for consumption and in the agriculture world of farming. The development of
pest resistant varieties has also helped in keeping pesticides and herbicides out of our waters. All of
these advancements and legislation have championed a sustainable way to continue growth in

King Galahor Get His Name Analysis
The year was 1275 of the Third Age when the dark sorcerer Mondain and his students slew
Emperor Vaserd Atridius and his entire line of heirs; leaving the northern empire of Budalia in
shambles. Seven warriors from each of the seven provinces of the old empire banded together and
destroyed Mondain and his vile legion. The seven warriors then divided his magicrod into seven
parts, to be distributed among them evenly so that no one person may ever claim them and cause
disparity to the world ever again. The descendents of these seven would be known as the kings of
what were once the provinces of Budalia, now separate nations who unite under a sacred pact
forged by their forefathers. And so it is written that the Pactof the Seven shall unite... Show more

Clerics and healers from all over Sosaria and the neighboring isles have come to see him, but
magic can only do so much for what ails him. His eldest heir, whom he groomed from birth to
take his place, obviously lays dead. His second eldest who marched to fight alongside his
countrymen in Nostora, Lanner, has recently been presumed missing when his encampment was
raided in the night over two months ago. This leaves poor, mild mannered Travan, the youngest
of Trytas s sons. The boy has shown little to no interest in something his older brothers so
desperately competed over, preferring to spend his days reading about magic and dead gods, hardly
the typical fair for a Belawain.
Despite this, my liege would rather that his own line takes the throne in the event of his death
than his younger brother Jorvan. Though I have met the man a number of times myself, he does
not strike me as being of the same ilk as his brother. Trytas is atypical for a king, preferring to
visit with his subjects when he can and strengthening the resolve of his people. Jorvan, on the
other hand, is a foppish git who runs a backwoods town and thinks himself to be the proper heir to
an entire bloody kingdom. In truth, these traits would make for an excellent successor to any king,

Dreams Of Avarice In Niall Ferguson s The Ascent Of Money
Dreams of Avarice In the first episode of The Ascent of Money, a man by the name of Niall
Ferguson was set out to explain how powerful money was. Money has the ability to turn you into
a powerful individual, but it can also crush you. Like Ferguson stated, the power of finance is
everywhere we look and it affects all of our lives . Everyone needs to eat, everyone needs a place to
live, and everyone needs transportation to and from work and school. We all need moneyto provide
for products and services we use on a daily basis and that is what Ferguson is trying to get
across. We can t escape the the use of money. If we go back 500 years in history, we can look at
one of the preeminent societies in South America, the Inca Empire. The Inca s had no real
concept of money, but they did value rare metals such as gold and silver. The unit of value in the
Inca Empire was labor. Later, Francisco Pizarro and his team of Conquistadores came to South
America in search one of thing, money. After the Conquistadores defeated the Inca army at the
Battle of Cajamarca they headed over to PotosГ, which is now a city in Bolivia, where they
discovered the mountain of Cerro Rico. Here, the Conquistadores had found the jackpot. Within
their 250 years of rule the Spaniards had extracted more than two billion ounces of silver.... Show

Junior Year Effect
High school often times has a drastic effect on many students. From freshman to seniors,
everyone looks at high school with a different perspective. Some love it, some hate it, and some
just go because they have to, or the exact opposite; they don t show up because high school is not
important. Starting as a freshman in September of 2013, I was nervous. Not knowing what to
expect from the scary, and enormous place we call Neenah High School. Thinking that I wouldn t
have any classes with my friends, and I d be all alone in this huge place, I was wrong. High school
isn t a scary place; you still see your friends, and the large student population almost guarantees
you to meet or at least see someone new roaming the hallways everyday. However, this was only

Junior year is the most important year, it s the last year before senioritis kicks in. On my first
day of the semester I received homework in more than half of my class and that s when I knew
that this year would be a challenge. Having a full schedule I couldn t manage to catch a break.
My teachers slammed me with homework, every single day I was given at least one assignment
per class, making even less time for friends than ever. I go to school at 7:30 am until 3:00 pm,
then work from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on most school nights which leaves me crunching time to get
my homework done every night, with time to still get some sleep. My class this year are tough,
and fast paced. About a month prior to the end of first semester, I had my wisdom teeth extracted
which left me out of school or a week. When I got back, the stack of homework was endless. I
had several tests to make up and assignments to turn in, which left me staying after school several
nights a week to meet with teachers and catch up on my assignments. On top of missing work, I

During his life, the western world underwent what was perhaps the most remarkable period of change since the decline of the Roman Empire. The Renaissance saw changes in all aspects of life and culture, with dramatic reforms sweeping through the worlds of religion, politics, and scientific belief. Michelangelo first heard Savonarola preach in 1492, the year in which his first patron, Lorenzo de Medici, died and Michelangelo returned to his father s home. The monk s sermons and his subsequent violent death had a lifelong effect on the artist and many of his works; the loss of Lorenzo also deeply affected his artistic consciousness. At the age of 21, he made his first trip to Rome, a city that was both to play a prominent part in his life and create many frustrations for him. The Pieta is heralded as one of his greatest achievements. The sorrowing face of Mary, contemplating the lifeless body of her eldest child, still wrings the heart today. • 4. La Raza Character Analysis Like the Chicano character, the La Raza personality rose up out of the historical backdrop of political, financial, and social disappointment of Mexicans in the United States and their ensuing social activism (Gutierrez, 1995; Ochoa, 2004). The term was initially used to affirm that the mix of Native American and European societies created a capable and even predominant raza cosmica (astronomical race) (Vasconcelos, 1997). The 1960s Chicanodevelopment grasped a politicized Raza personality that underlined the indigenous parts of their legacy and de stressed European segments (Oropeza, 2005). In late decades, the term Raza has turned out to be more comprehensive, mirroring the way that Hispanic/Latinos are a blend of a large portion of the world s races, societies, and religions (Vasconcelos, 1997). Humor in French Literature at the Turn of the 20th Century Behind humor in the French literature at the turn of the 20th century The French literature is one of the most interesting compilations of cultural expression on the European continent. Unlike other types of literature, the French one enables the reader to experience not only a literary expression of feelings and emotions but, at the same time, it creates a sense of introduction in the world of the authors and in the environment in which these authors create. The French literature, with sufficient examples to provide, has to a certain extent, increased the reading experience through a different sense of intimacy that exists between the writer and its audience, regardless of the writer s appetite for traditional literature of application of standard techniques. There are numerous examples to provide in this sense. However, from the 20th century literature there are several that stand out through the way in which stories are told and the use of language and character construction. These include Ubu the Kind by Alfred Jarry (1896), My Father s Glory by Marcel Pagnol, (1957), and The other woman by Colette (1924). They are all different in the sense that they tend to deal with aspects that of particular interest for the time in which they were written, but, to a certain extend, they share in common the deep consideration for the human soul and, through different means of expression, provide different perspectives of the human soul. All these three examples have in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

And there s nothing to panic about because with the help of symbols or iconography, the message behind the piece or artwork may just be revealed. Iconography, stated by the book, is a system of symbols that allow artists and designers to refer to complex ideas. Iconography is seen a lot through cultures and religions, for example, in medieval Christian symbolism, the unicorn symbolized Jesus. This is seen in The Unicorn in Captivity, and if you look closely into the artwork, you may see red juice dripping from different spots on the unicorn. This red juice also connects with the symbolism of the unicorn and Jesus; do you know what it may represent? If you guessed Christ s sacrifice, you are on the right path. • 12. The Effects Of Advertising On Society Essay The Effects of Advertising on Society Fr. Kavanaugh was on the mark when describing the effects of advertising on society. Our moral values are being degraded by the bombardment of impropriety by the media. Adler would be quick in pointing out the reason why these messages have such a negative effect on people. There are two main tactics advertisers use to sell their product: either imply that their product will bring about the achievement of a particular (usually real) good, or make their product the object of desire, therefore making it an apparent good to people. The problem with associating products with the achievement of a good lies more in the realm of truth than in good, because it lies in whether ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Though these products are by no means needs, the associations make people believe that the advertised product embodies the good they need, and to achieve that good they must buy the product. Companies don t advertise perfumes, for example; they advertise relationships. They don t advertise clothing; they advertise independence. Slowly, as people hear these messages more and more, they start associating more importance to the product than to the good involved, like a sort of idol worship and here is where the real problems set in. Now that advertisers have people sold on the product, they can influence people s desires. This is what Fr. Kavanaugh saw when he said that advertising is damaging society s moral values. Calvin Klein, for example, has already become one of those companies whose product has become more important than the good they represent in other words, Calvin Klein products are now in and of themselves the good some people try to achieve. Thus, when their ads show immoral situations or actions (like the infamous child pornography ads that spurred many debates and a lawsuit against the company), people associate these immoral actions with the quot;good quot; Calvin Klein products, and people will slowly grow desensitized to them. Advertising, therefore, plays a notable role in the moral growth or stunting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. The Imperfection Of The Greek Parthenon The Athenian Greeks at the height of their power built a temple called the Parthenon which was a monument to their core values of perfectionism, humanism, and rationalism. It is important to understand that the human eye has imperfections which deceive the mind, so one can understand the unique steps that were taken to achieve the illusion of perfection to the human eye. The Greeks loved perfection, and as seen in the Parthenon, the Greek architects purposely made the Parthenon imperfect to account for the imperfections in the human eye. This was done so that when one views the Parthenon with the naked eye, it appears to be perfectly symmetrical, straight, and proportional. The entire Parthenon does not have a single right angle. An example of the Greeks compensating for the imperfections of the human eye is seen in the base of the Parthenon, which from a picture or in real life looks perfectly straight, but in reality it is actually curved slightly upward. It is curved because the Greeks knew that if you have a perfectly flat base for a building, it appears curved to the human eye. To account for that, the Greeks made it so that the base was already curved. The Greeks also curved the columns of the Parthenon inward, because if the columns were straight, it would appear to be curving outward. Again, the Greeks knew about how the human eye deceives the mind, and decided that they must trick the eye to please the mind. This was all done because the Greeks strived for ... First and foremost, this novel was written to entertain the audience, but upon the application of critical thinking, persuasion begins to become a purpose. Throughout the novel, the irrational lifestyle of a drug binge is often glamourized. Thompson also uses his descriptive choice of words to express his world view of society, during the sixties. The reader can imagine what each event taking place would have looked like though Raoul Duke s eyes. Many individuals sought to live the comfortable American dream lifestyle, but what is the American dream? Throughout the novel Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas the reader is swept into an ironic and descriptive journey, influencing the reader to feel enlightened on the subject of drugs. The power of words is undeniable, and can translate the authors beliefs in way that will influence the reader s beliefs. When the description of an event is so detailed that the reader is able to close their eyes and picture it, the impact on the reader will be significant. Thompson says, My legs felt rubbery. Mind In Hegel s Decade Of The Brain Our modern understanding of the human mind is much different than it was in the 17th to 19th century, all the results from scientific research on brain studies during the Decade of the Brain. Before, Mind was viewed as a real object but now we realize that people process information somewhere, someplace in the brain. It was a creator of ideas with the personality. Today we realize that it is what the rain does, an expression of neural networks processing information. And indeed computer programs are being built to emulate that process. It is not an ethereal entity that can create memories nor complete pictures on a scratchpad but along neural fibers that reconstruct outlines of pictures. There are various states of consciousness and using language we hypothesize ideas, which are then checked out on the opposite side of the brain against reality. And sometimes the physiology falters and Mindgoes berserk. But what that describes is a natural process with information provided from the senses. It is not in communication with higher beings. Another advantage of going public is the ability for Rosetta Stone to increase its brand s image, awareness, and reputation. An IPO could be a good move because of the increased globalization occurring that has led to more and more people learning needing or wanting to learn different languages. Going public as the economy is just coming out of its recession could prove to be advantageous for Rosetta Stone. If I were part of the underwriting syndicate I would recommend a price of $21 for the offering. While the underwriters have given a range of $15 17 per share, I believe that Rosetta Stone will follow suit with the two other companies that went public during the year and experience a large price jump on the first day of trading. A higher initial offering will make it look better for the underwriters, so they are not accused of severely underpricing the shares. 4. The article said that K12 was the closest comparable company to Rosetta Stone. Rosetta Stone is marketable to a larger consumer base than K12, so I think that it should be able to charge a higher IPO. The case said that book was more than 25 times oversubscribed during its road show which means Rosetta Stone could charge a much higher price. But these subscriptions are volatile and the economy is recovering, so a price too high could deter many investors. For my analysis I took the EBITDA margin for years 2006 2008 and found the average increase during that time to be 9.93%. I then took the estimated share value from 2008 and multiplied it by 1.0993 to factor in the average increase in share value. This resulted in a price of $19.22. Given this number I would increase the current range from $15 17 to $19 24. The reason for the increased range is because of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

(p. 134) He explains the negative aspects of personal tax and why political and economic liberalism benefits society. When people feel they are treated well by their governments, they are more likely to be civil to each other which is why it is necessary for governments to make sure they maintain individual liberty, peace, security, and property rights, and their interferences are kept to a bare minimum. John Locke believes there is a natural law, a moral standard that is intrinsic in the origin of human nature. Humans, being basically good by nature, are born equal and free, with out the ties of government. Because humans were in essence good, there was no need of a government. However, as time passed, the need for the benefits of civility became necessary. It is at this point that people agree to leave the state of nature, and thereby give up their absolute freedom. • 41. Comparing Ulysses by Lord Tennyson and My Last Duchess by... Comparing Ulysses by Lord Tennyson and My Last Duchess by Robert Browning. Ulysses was written by Lord Tennyson and is a poem about a mythical Greek character and is a dramatic monologue. Another poem that is a dramatic monologue is My Last Duchess , by Robert Browning. Both poems are similar, for example they are both structured similarly, and are both different, one difference being their subject. In this essay I will compare the two poems, focusing on form, and how language helps to build up subject matter. Ulysses is a Greek mythical character, and was famous for being a pirate, ransacking villages and being a warrior. In Greek literature, Ulysses just seemed to disappear after he got home, and Tennyson decided to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These adjectives create an understanding of what life is like for Ulysses, and this is then contrasted with words of his past such as roaming , ringing and windy . These words create a contrast between the activeness of the past, and the stillness of the present. This helps the reader imagine what life was like for the character when he was young. The words associated with the past are positive, whereas the words associated with the present are negative, helping the reader to understand how Ulysses feels about the present. Line 2o Gleams that untravelled world whose margin fades shows how Ulysses believes that he still can go out and do things, as no matter how much he has done, he cannot have done everything. This line is important, as Gleams leaves the reader with the impression that it is almost tempting to Ulysses to go and live like he did in the past. In My Last Duchess , Browning allows the reader to understand the Duke through what he is saying and what he is doing. The first two lines introduce us to the main topic of the Duke s speech which is a painting of his last wife. The lines: That s my last Duchess painted on the wall, looking as if she were alive hint to us that the duchess is not alive anymore, but Browning has made us unsure, and therefore invites us to read more into the poem. Browning engages the reader by inviting them to make their own judgements about the Duke, and hinting on what he is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is an incurable, rare disease affecting 1 in 3 million people with a medial life span of 5 9 years after it is diagnosed. The cause of this disease is unknown but recent indications and research show that the cause can be due to changes in the DNA. Effective treatments are traditional chemotherapy agents such as chlorambucil, cyclophosphamide and melphalan. These can be given as a single agent or combination with others such as rituximab. This monoclonal antibody has been found to be effective. Because WM is a rare disease, there are minimal research trials to support this disease. But none the less, there are clinical trials available. Ongoing research has introduced new therapies including inhibitors and alkylating agents. These ongoing clinical trials have shown that when compared to conventional chemotherapy agents, can not only treat the symptoms of the disease, but also continue to further medicine s knowledge as to patient s prognosis while providing patients increased therapeutic efficacy, longer remissions and most important, a better quality of life. Stem cell transplant is also an option. This process involves removal of blood forming stem cells which are restored to the patient following chemotherapy treatment while the transplanted cells return to the bone marrow and produce new blood cells.
