Rohit Khurana Brophy College Preparatory Summer Reading Assignment 7/3/15 ST.
IGNATIUS OF LOYOLA Definitions 1.Battle of Pamplona The Battle of Pamplona was a
struggle between French backed Navarrese troops and Spanish troops, occurring during the
Spanish conquest of Navarre. In 1512, most Navarrese towns consented to be under French rule.
Before an agreement could be signed however, King Ferdinand of Spain seized the capital,
Pamplona, fortifying its walls, and claimed all of Navarre for Spain. Later on, in 1521, Francis I,
King of France reconquered Pamplona, with their victory short lived as Spain would reconquer the
province. It was during this battle in which St. Ignatius of Loyola was struck and severely injured.

Ignatius of Loyola Ignatius of Loyola, born to DoГ±a MarГna SГЎnchez de Licona and BeltrГЎn

Serving to the treasurer s household (VelГЎzquez) at first, Ignatius injuries during the Battle of
Pamplona fueled a period of reflection in which Ignatius placed his life at the feet of God.
Traveling to Manresa after his recovery, Ignatius created the Spiritual Exercises to help others
grow closer to God setting the stage for a new religious order. Pursuing this path, Ignatius
received a well rounded education from the University of Paris, attracting new followers, such
as Peter Favre and Francis Xavier, and making plans to travel to the Holy Land. However, these
plans were curtailed in the shadow of conflict at the Holy Land. Instead, the companions decided
it was time to place themselves at the service of the Holy Father by means of the Society of
Jesus with Ignatius delivering his first mass on Christmas Eve, 1538 in the Chapel of the
Manger in Rome s Basilica of St. Mary Major, 18 months after his ordination into priesthood. Yet

Buffers Lab Report
Title: Buffering Capacity of Common Antacids including Tums, Generic Tums and Generic Alka
Seltzer.
Introduction: This experiment is going to test the ability of antacids and how they absorb acid to
see which is a better buffer. An antacid neutralizes acid, and this helps the most with heartburn.
Heartburn is where stomach acid is regurgitated back into the esophagus, and this causes a
burning feeling in the chest (Oxford University Press, 2017). A buffer is a source of hydroxide
ions that can absorb hydrogen ions, which in turn keeps the pH stable (Mader, 2017). In this
experiment, the different antacids that are being tested to absorb the hydrogen ions from stomach
acid are the buffers. The pH scale helps determine how acidic or basic a solution ... Show more

antacid. The mortar and pestle was washed thoroughly between antacids. Each crushed antacid
was placed into a separate and appropriately labeled beaker with 100ml of water. Each beaker had
its own glass stir rod, and the solutions were stirred until the tablets were completely dissolved. 6
8 drops of bromcresol purple was added to each beaker (bromcresol purple does not change the
pH of a solution), and each solution was stirred to mix the indicator with the antacid. All
solutions became purple. 10ml of each antacid solution was removed from its beaker and placed
in an appropriately labeled test tube, using a pipette. The pipette was cleaned thoroughly between
transferring each antacid solution. 1 drop of 0.1m hydrogen chloride (HCl) was added to each test
tube. Each test tube was then swirled to mix thoroughly. 0.1m of HCl was continuously added to
each test tube drop by drop, mixing after each drop, until the solution lost its purple color and

Summary Of Greasy Lake Essay
Christine Berndt Ms. Granger English Comp 1A 29 November 2016 A Greasy Turnaround In T.
Coraghessan Boyle s short story Greasy Lake , the reader is brought into an intense situation
that occurs on one of the first nights during the young adult boy s summer vacation. The
narrator, whose name is never revealed, is out on an adventurous night with his friends Digby
and Jeff. While out, they find themselves discovering whether or not the idea of who they
thought they wanted to be and, associate themselves with, was actually what they desired. This
conveys the idea that fantasy and reality do not always correlate due to inevitable
consequences.Michael Adams a British journalist for BBC described Boyle s upbringing as
having a rebellious youth who played drums, sang in a rock and roll band, and drove fast cars .
Along with this Adams states that Boyle Did not get along with his father, a school bus driver
whose alcoholism killed him at age fifty four in 1972. Boyle s mother, a secretary, was also an
alcoholic and died of liver failure . Greasers most often come from rough family backgrounds and
find themselves indulging in fast cars, and enjoy mischievous activities such as drugs and alcohol.
With the rough and untraditional childhood that T. C Boyle endured perhaps it inspired him to
develop Greasy Lake . The stories central conflict arises when the characters head out to Greasy

Examples Of Social Stratification In The Media
How Social Stratification is Portrayed by the Media
Malcolm Little, or as he s better known as Malcolm X, once stated, The media s the most
powerful entity on earth. They have the power to make the innocent guilty and to make the guilty
innocent, and that s power. Because they control the minds of the masses (Citation). What
Malcolm X said is true; the media does have a control on the people s minds. The media has a
big impact on how we think and feel about everything in our lives. For example, with this type of
control the media has caused people to developed stereotypes about the social classes and the people
within them. Upper class

The biggest effect media has on women is how the view their looks. Several different TV shows,
songs, magazines, and commercials focus heavily on how women supposedly obsess over their
looks. This can be seen all throughout the Gilmore Girls series, for Emily Gilmore is constantly
obsessed over how her and her family looks (Citation). Also, the media shows people that
women can be catty with each other. A really good example of this can be seen in the Real
Housewives of New Jersey. This show constantly shows how women are supposedly catty with
each other by showing them arguing and fighting constantly (Citation). Another thing the media s
view portrays is how hard of the time women have will trying to balance their personal life and
their work life. This can be seen throughout the Gilmore Girls series. Lorelai Gilmore, one of the
main characters in the series, can be seen having trouble balancing her personal life and her work
life (Citation). These stereotypes can negatively affect women personally, for these can determine
whether a woman can get the job she wants, whether or not she gets a promotion, or even how

Cu Honor Code Analysis
Hold Safety Paramount: Engineers must prioritize the safety, health and welfare of the public and
should try to practice sustainability as often as possible. In order to do this, engineers must realize
that major engineering decisions do impact the general public s well being and they must review
their decisions to ensure that they are safe. Engineers with reasons to believe that a fellow engineer
is not following the rules stated in Canon 1 must report this person to the authorities in charge.
Service With Competence: Engineers should only work in areas where they are qualified, but
they are allowed to accept assignments outside of their areas of expertise as long as they are only
working on the portions of the jobs in which they are qualified. ... Show more content on

Canon 3 states that engineers must always issue true statements, and code 3B states that
engineers must be truthful in all reports, statements and testimonies. This is similar to the CU
Honor Code, because the CU Honor Code was established in order to create a community of
trust. In order to follow the CU Honor Code, one cannot cheat or plagiarise. This means that
students must be honest and truthful when taking tests and doing homework. All of the work
done by a student must be their own. The CU Honor Code also relates with ASCE code 5D and
5E. Canon 5 states that an engineer s merit speaks for their professional reputation. Code 5D
states that engineers shall not misrepresent their academic or professional qualifications. If a
student cheats or plagiarizes, they are misrepresenting their academic qualifications by turning in
work that doesn t accurately display their academic capability. Code 5E states that engineers must
give credit to fellow engineers where credit is due. Plagiarizing or copying someone else s work,
robs that person from the credit they deserve, and gives the credit to a student who doesn t deserve
it. Finally, the CU Honor Code relates to ASCE code 6A. Canon 6 states that engineers shall uphold
the honor, integrity, and dignity of the engineering profession. The point of the CU Honor Code is
for the students of CU Boulder to uphold the honor of the school. Code 6A states that engineers
shall not knowingly engage in anything dishonest or unethical. Cheating or plagiarism in any form
is unethical and dishonest because if a student turns in work with their name on it, even though the
work done isn t their own, then this student is not telling the

Capital Disciplinement And Capital Punishment
Some say capital punishment is the largest amount of discipline. As indicated by 71% of the United
States there is no harsher discipline than death itself. 58 nations hone capital punishment. The
United States of America, is one of the 58. Starting at 2015 the United States will just utilize capital
punishment if indicted first degree kill. Some trust that death penalty will prevent killers. I will be
contending that capital punishmentdoes not stop lawbreakers and that the United Statesought to
cancel this ihumane type of discipline.
Before I make my side of the contention, Here is some foundation data on the death penalty. The
death penalty was brought over from Britain, when the establishing fathers pronounced autonomy.
Europeans gave capital punishment for different violations. The primary recorded execution in
America happened in Jamestown, 1608. A man named George Kendall was executed for
conspiracy. In the prior provincial days, laws with respect to the death penalty differed relying upon
the district and the idea of the wrongdoing.
Amid the nineteen century, capital punishment changed drastically. Around this time capital
punishment began to lose prevalence. Expresses never again dedicated open executions. All
executions were done in private. Pennsylvania was the principal state to receive this pattern.
Inevitably a few states abrogated capital punishment all together. In current circumstances, fourteen
out of fifty expresses never again complete capital

The Oklahoma State Liquor Laws
I am going to address the Oklahoma State Liquor Laws. The law specifically in question is
section 534, chapter 3 of Title 37 in the Oklahoma Statues. The issue being that, in the state of
Oklahoma, the sale of any alcoholic beverage that is over 3.2 percent alcohol volume by weight
has to be sold at room temperature and cannot be sold in grocery stores or convenient stores. By
law it can only be sold by state licensed liquor stores. This means that the general public has to pay
a higher mark up for the alcohol purchased in these privately owned liquor stores and businesses.
The law says that such drinks are to be sold only at room temperature. It is also illegal for the sale of
higher alcohol content drinks on Sunday s, on election days, and on holidays. Texas, on the other
hand, makes the sales of all alcoholic drinks legal in grocery stores, convenient stores, and liquor
stores. In September of 1907 Oklahoma accepted prohibition as part of the new state s constitution.
In January of 1919, Oklahoma became the eighteenth state to ratify, or make valid, the Eighteenth
Amendment. The Eighteenth Amendment prohibited the making, selling and transportation of
alcohol. In February of 1933 the Twenty First Amendment to the United States Constitution was
passed. The Twenty First Amendment repealed the Eighteenth Amendment and gave the individual
states the rights to determine the alcohol laws for their own state. Like a lot of other states,
Oklahoma never ratified the

Essay on Personal Life
What would the world come to if people did not strive to help themselves? Would more be
accomplished or nothing at all? When is helping oneself self interest, and when is it rude and
selfish? How far does one have to go to not be selfish? In order to be not selfish, must a person
spent all their time giving to others? Is in a way giving to others even show selfishness? If that is
true is it possible to end selfishness? These questions do not have straight answers, and probably
never will. Yet, to understand the importance of self interest it is important to understand my
opinion of the answers to these questions.
Self interest is when people strive to help their condition, or themselves without implicating harm
on others. It causes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This can easily be seen when the young athlete is suing their parents for stealing their money.
This can also be seen on any of the court television shows where people who were once the best
of friends are having an absolute brawl over a few hundred to a few thousand dollars. Which
although it is a lot of money, is not close to how priceless a good friendship is. Self interest will
always benefit a country while selfishness can only hurt it. Self interest motivates people to work
harder, and if people work harder it helps everyone around them. Selfishness is quite different from
self interest because it inflicts harm on people, while self interest will almost always help people
achieve their goals.
Giving to others is an amazing thing to do. Yet, I do not feel it is something that should be
automatically expected of people. I think everyone must work hard to get money, and lead the life
that they want to live. With hard work comes profit. This profit that people make is used to pay
off their own bills, and then buy things they want for themselves. I think that people should take
care of others only after they take care of themselves. This does not mean never think of others. It
just means that why should one person have to work hard to earn a living, while another person
receives free hand outs.
I also feel that people give to others to help themselves feel good about themselves. There are

A Child s Life Under Traditional Circumstances
From birth to age 6/7, studies have shown, the most important adult figure in a child s life under
traditional circumstances is the mother, and it is this period that the child learns what love is.
Relationships between the researched subjects and their mothers were uniformly cool, distant,
unloving, neglectful, with very little touching, emotional warmth the children were deprived of love.
As a small child, the grandfather who served as his father figure was Ted s beloved role model
from whom he was involuntarily separated when his mother moved him to Washington State. Being
torn from this father figure he loved at the young age of four, may have affected Bundy s ability to
socialize properly. This quote suggests that,
From ages of 8 to 12, all the negative tendencies present in their early childhoods were
exacerbated and reinforced. In this period, a male child really needs a father, and it was in just this
time period that the fathers of half the subjects disappeared in one way or another…. Potential
murderers became solidified in their loneliness first during the age period of 8 to 12; such isolation
is considered the single most important aspect of their psychological makeup. (Swiss Criminal
Profiling, Childhoods of Violence?)
Although Ted focused on his love for his grandfather, the family s church described him as an
extremely violent man who generally terrorised everyone he lived with (libertus.net). But it was not

The White Lady Cries Wolf in Rosewood
Rosewood is a ghost town located in Levy County, Florida. In the early 1920s Rosewood was a
developing town with churches, schools, mills and a growing population. The town was a
majority black town, but that was not much of a problem until a white lady cried wolf . Fannie
Taylor, wife of James Taylor who worked at a mill nearby, would have an affair with a white
man. Fannie and her white lover got into a physical altercation that left Fannie with obvious
bruises. To prevent from having to tell James about the affair she told her neighbors that a black
man came and attacked her. As word spread throughout the town some people added to her story
that Fannie was also raped by the black man. The thought of miscegenation is what angered the
men and led to the Rosewood Massacre. During the first week of January, 1923 in Rosewood the
angry white men formed a search group for the black man who raped Fannie. The search group
murdered nearly every black man they saw and burned down a portion of Rosewood. In 1997,
John Singleton directed the movie Rosewood , which told the story of the Rosewood Massacre.
Overall the movie was great and included talented actors like: Ving Rhames, Don Cheadle, Elise
Neal, and Esther Rolle. I personally was engaged with the film when it first started off, with the
intimate sex scene with Jewel and Mr. Wright. Sex is intriguing for almost anyone, so to start the
movie off with sex was a clever way to grab the audience attention.

Sassanid Persians Analysis
One point of contention between Halsall and Heather is the labeling of the Sassanid Persians. The
former said pays little mind to the Persians, saying that they were not considered to be barbarians
(Halsall 52). He moves on to the next people with no explanation other that there was more to being
barbarian than simply living outside the Roman Empire(Halsall 52). The latter, on the other hand,
clearly states that they were thought of as a barbarian culture (Heather, 57 58). This causes the
reader to question what exactly the term barbarian meant to the citizens of the Roman Empire and
how this related to the Sassanid Persians. The label of barbarian was related to the lifestyle,
morality, and martial skill of a group. The Sassanid Persians... Show more content on

One example of Persian military capability was Emperor Julian s failed invasion of Persia in 363
(Maas, 336). Not only did the emperor die due to wounds inflicted in battle, but his successor,
Jovian, had to make a truce with the Persians in order to return home (Maas, 336). Considering
the view that barbarians represented humanity s irrationality, the Romans would not have
wanted to believe that their greatest military rivals were barbarians. Therefore, it is only natural
that they did not label the Persians as such. One should remember that while they might have
believed that Western barbarian cultures were less able to plan a battle due to a lack of reason,
it does not mean that they were actually poor fighters. In fact, they could rival the Roman army
in all but training and numbers (Halsall, 146). They were even able to defeat Roman troops from
time to time. One example from the early empire, was the loss of three legions led by P.
Quinctilius Varus to an alliance of Germanic fighters (Heather, 46). Nor did it meant that barbarian
forces were seen as universally weak. Barbarian peoples had been incorporated into the army even
when the empire was new (Halsall, 105). This inclusion could be seen in the potentially inherited

Literary Devices In Stop All The Clocks Cut Off The Telephone
In Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone by W.H. Auden the author uses different literary
devices to portray the theme of overwhelming grief and loss. In the poem, the speaker is someone
who has recently lost a loved one. The person is so distraught that they start issuing harsh
demands. The speaker wants everything to stop and all noise to seize. He or she then starts
revealing more personal details by telling how much the loved one meant to them. This poem is
dramatic and successfully uses literary devicesto show how the speaker is feeling in their time of
grief. W.H. Auden uses metaphors, personification, and overstatements to reveal the effects of
overwhelming grief.
First, W.H. Auden uses metaphors throughout the poem in order to reveal how the speaker feels
for the loved one they lost. A metaphor is a figure of speech in which a word or phrase is
applied to an object or action to which it is not literally applicable. The first metaphor W.H.
Auden uses is He was my North, my South, my East and West (9). This metaphor conveys that
the person who has died means a lot to the speaker. The directions refer to the direction the
speaker s life is going. This implies that the speaker has lost all direction now that they have lost
this loved one. The next metaphor the author uses is My working week and my Sunday rest (10).
The author uses these words to show that the relationship between the speaker and the person who
died had an intimate relationship. The final

Paycheck Fairness Essay
Paycheck Fairness Act Valuing the Employee The Paycheck Fairness Act can aid an
organization in laying the foundation to value employees equally and add a level of
transparency without retaliation. The vantage point of paying everyone equally, regardless of
race, gender, religious and/or sexual preference may seem as an obvious option as we are all
created equal. The vantage point of paying a person what they are worth, what type of experience
they may bring to the table, or what value they could potentially add also provides a sensible
solution to paycheck discrepancies. Bridging the gap between understanding what value a person

Essay about Compost Lab
Building a Compost Lab
Darius Dixon
Biology 5TH Period
6/7/10
Introduction Composting is nature s way of recycling and is the key to healthy soil and a healthy
environment. Composting is a cost efficient way of getting rich natural soil for a very cheap price.
There are numerous types of compost bins available to make; each enable the growth of lawns and
gardens. A compost pile is usually made from fruit and vegetable scraps, newspaper and grass
clippings, worms (that act as decomposers), and leaves.
Hypothesis
According to the concept of composting it is more than likely that rich filled nutrient soil will be
produced from the worm compost bin at the end of a twenty day period. Rich soil that one buys at

Analysis and Conclusion
At the conclusion of my experiment my hypothesis was correct. The worm bin was successfully
composted and the organic waste was decomposed by the worms. However as a fault of leaving
the worms under direct sunlight it seems that they were burned and died. Also, as a result of
moving worm bin outside due to smell, a rodent knocked it over therefore I dirt was added to refill
lost soil. When one should conduct experiment again may upsize worm bit to produce more soil.
1Worm compost saves you money by replacing store bought soil conditioners.
2Helps garden and house plants grow by improving the fertility of your soil.
3Saves water by helping the soil hold moisture and reducing water runoff.

Descriptive Essay On Chicago Basketball Game
Last night I made the 65 minute trip to Mechanicsburg, Ohio to take in the division six ,region 24
playoff game, between undefeated Mechanicsburg(10 0) and 7 3 Miami East. This was my first
time seeing Miami East play. I was hoping to see a battle for four quarters, but felt the home team
was going to be moving to week twelve.
This one started out strangely, when Kaleb Romero, the Indians quarterback was picked off on the
games third play, but a big hit on the Miami East player resulted in a fumble, that the Indians
recovered.
After getting a fresh start with the ball Romero was sacked by, Logan West, with 9:34 left on the

combo looked like it could be super dangerous, if the need was there.MASCADRI would walk in

Indians lead to,39 0,with 5:33 left.
The gentleman setting next to me had told me the JV team from Miami East was undefeated and
had been since biddy league. Well when they came onto the field for the teams final drive, you
did not know if they knew this was a,39 0 game. Because they easily moved the ball twenty one
yards for their teams first score, with Freshman Kaleb scoring from two yards out to end the game.
The Vikings had recovered a fumble to set up the score as the Vikings never did stop trying in this

Pros And Cons Of The Middle Colonies
Although The Northern Colonies had a huge expansion of trade, parks, paved streets, diverse
crops and many more, The Middle Colonies are considered the best to live in because it had
major ports/trade, had religious diversity by 1775 and fertile land. Americans have often prided
themselves on their rich diversity and there was a lot. The middle colonies contained Native
American tribes of the Algonquian and Iroquoian language groups. The Middle Colonies had
also a sizable percentage of African slaves during the early years and unlike the New England
Colonies, the middle colonies had an assortment of religions. With Quakers, Presbyterians,
Lutherans and Dutch Calvinists had made the superiority of one faith close to impossible.
English, Catholics and Enslaved Africans shared land and some of the proprietors there believed
in religious tolerance although some didn t care as long the people paid for their land so there

York. Since they were between the Northern and Southern colonies, the middle colonies were
important and served as distribution centers in the English mercantile system at that time. Some

The Construction Of The Parthenon In Athens, Greece
The Parthenon is located in Athens,Greece. It was constructed approximately in 447 BC and
completed around 432 BC as a temple dedicated to the Goddess Athena., which the original one
was destroyed in Persian Invasion of 480 BC. The Parthenon was used primarily as a treasury. In
the sixth century AD, it was converted into a Christian church, dedicated to the Virgin Mary.
During the Ottoman conquest it became a Mosque which was around 1460 s. The Parthenonwas
partially destroyed in 1687.
The architects were Iktinos and Kallikrates with a mention of Vitruv and dedicated to the Goddess
Athena Pallas or Parthenos (virgin). It s main function was to house the statues of Athena which
were made of gold and ivory by Phedias. The inner chamber was unusually large so it could house
the oversized statue of Athena. The greater width and length of the Parthenon features double

True Grit Comparative Essay
Comparative Analysis on True Grit (1969) and True Grit (2010)
Many modern adaptations of classical films have effectively been reinvented to successfully adapt
the current market and cater audiences from the new generation. One such film is the 2010 movie
True Grit , which is an artistic remake by the Coen brothers of the 1969 film of the same title by
Henry Hathaway. While both films are adaptation of Charles Portis 1968 novel True Grit, the two
versions differ in certain cinematic elements that make their variations artistic and inventive on
their own right.
One of the immediate things that differed between the two film adaptations is the character
portrayal of the main characters in the story. While both featured a one eyed lawman named... Show

With erstwhile traditional techniques in film making, the camera in the 1969 version focuses on
capturing the unrefined exquisiteness of the sceneries using natural light in bright days while
somewhat dodging from anything ostentatious, that could get in the way in highlighting the star
appeal of actors in the film and distorting its emphasis on the eye for eye western sense of justice.
With better technology and techniques, the Coen version used different photographic effects and
colour schemes that created a more dead beat gothic appearance that contributes to its lacklustre,
indifferent and hard bitten theme and ending. The visual approach is further complemented by
varying musical backgrounds. Whereas the 1969 version exhibited the more buoyant optimistic
style of most 60 s films, highlighted by folksy pop ballad of Glenn Campbell, the musical score
for the modern version is way more dismal and sober in tone in order to emphasize thrilling
adventure of the story instead of merely suggesting a western film genre. While the older version
merely focused on creating a western ambiance in terms of music and look, the visual and music in
the modern version contributed to improve the realism of the story which focused on the ambiance
and feeling of specific scenes to the film which is more palatable to modern

Invention of the Automobile Essay
Invention of the Automobile
In the beginning, man s only form of transportation was his own feet. Later, to comfort his
journey on foot, was the invention of footwear. Through envy of the speed of other animals he
would learn to tame these animals. People who live in the desert ride atop camels. The people
who live in the frigid climates travel by dogs. Some people from places like India ride elephants.
But the must widely used form of transportation by animal power was by horse. Man would soon
develop boats and ships to travel long distances over water and time would flow like the rivers and

The automobile today has items that are critical to have. If a major car company were to produce a
car powered only by Lenoir s engine it would never sell because of the essentials.
THE ESSENTIALS The essentials are the necessary parts for an automobile to be an automobile
in today s world. If someone were to build an automobile like that of Lenoir s today it would be
nothing more than a go kart. No one would call it an automobile. Automobiles need certain
things other than just an engine and a horse carriage to be considered an automobile today for
two reasons. One reason is so someone will actually buy it and another is because it s the item is
required by law. In 1861 a German engineer named Nikolaus August Otto built his first gasoline
powered engine. Three years later he would team up with Eugen Langen to form the Deutz Gas
Engine Factory. Otto s engine was based on the same principles of Lenoir s. It was also a two
stroke engine with one cylinder but it used the different type of fuel, gasoline rather than coal gas.
Otto and Langen learned of a way to gain more efficiency by compressing the gas before
combustion in 1867. This led them to production of the first four stroke

since it involves two keywords: harm and power.

The Historical Context In The Catcher In The Rye
The historical context in The Catcher in the Rye reveals the book was written during a period of
anguish. As stated by Daniel Burt, ...a prosperous postwar period that gave rise to suburban
conformity and teenage angst, (Burt 2). This quote states that what was going on in society at
that time was how Holden was feeling. The feeling of teenage rebellion and depression were
taking over his life and leading him to do immoral things. Based on the quote above, we can see
how Holden created a cultural mordancy that his readers can easily detect, leading to the
thought that this book was created under the impression of loss and a world gone wrong. Burt
writes, Salinger s novel, observes Louis Menand, provides adolescents with a layer of psychic
insulation. Critic Harold Bloom speaks to the novel s enduring influence when he states, The
Catcher in the Rye struck a nerve for one generation, but it seems to appeal to sensitive young
people in later generations as well... (Burt 3). This quote states that the novel has created a huge
impact on society and has left an image that the book can be quite insulting. Because of this, we
can see that this book is not only a mockery of society but is unfit for teens to read. According to
Hochman and Mueller, Whether Holden s sense of society and culture comes from rebelling against
prep school, family, friends, teachers, maturation, and even death, his character continuously

Essay on Biofilms
A biofilm is a layer consisting of various combinations of many different organisms, autotrophic
and heterotrophic. They are dense, organized communities of cells, encased in a self produced
slime. The bacteria grow together in water like atmospheres, attaching to a solid surface, forming a
small ecosystem. Biofilms are known as a micro environment, a micro habitat, or a slime matrix.
They help decompose dead organisms and recycle carbon and nutrients.
Biofilms are formed on almost any surface that is submerged in non sterile water. Even hot
springs, and glaciers. Examples of common places where biofilms are found are pipes, hulls of

This contains sugars such as glucose, galactose, mannose, fructose, rhamnose, N acetylglucosamine
and others. The fifth step is that the slime layer of EPS and bacteria entraps particulate materials
such as clay, organic materials, dead cells, and precipitated minerals, adding to the diverse biofilm.
The final and continuous step is when other organisms attach to the biofilms.
The formation of biofilms is not random but can be predicted by the process above. The biofilms
become attached to surfaces because of gravity, or bacteria that have a negative charge. The bacteria
senses and goes to the highest concentration of nutrients.
Biofilms are hard to treat for many reasons. The main reason is because they are highly resistant
to antibiotics. This is because the outer cells protect the inner cells from the antibiotic. Therefore,
a long term treatment of antibiotics is required to help the biofilm related infection. Living in
groups, give bacteria properties they didn t have when living alone. Another reason they re hard
to treat is because they are undefeatable by the body s natural immune defense system. Biofilms
avoid chemical disinfection in two different ways. The first is that a gel like polysaccharide layer
provides a physical barrier against any outside agent, biological or chemical. The second is that
even if a biocidal agent is introduced in a large enough quantity to eliminate the living bacteria, then

International Institutions, Treaties, And Sanctions Essay
International Institutions, Treaties, and Sanctions and
Their Effects on International Business International institutions abound in the realm of
international business. As globalization increases, disputes multiply. The responsibilities of these
organizations can vary due to the needs of its members, such as monetary or trade issues. Moreover,
the support these institutions provide may come in the form of various agreements to include the

International Institutions
There are varying types of organizations which monitor or assist with disputes or negotiations on
an international level. Some of these factions focus on a more regional area, such as the Free Trade

According to NAFTAnow.org (2013), the Free Trade Commission watches over the North

Internal Domain Name System for Company
Internal Domain Name System for Company Alpha Introduction The DNS is a vital Internet
component providing mechanisms for resolving host names into IP addresses and vice versa. In
addition, DNS supports other Internet directories concerning DNS name servers and mail
exchangers among others (Garfinkel Spafford, 1997). Despite being a universally accepted and
widely used system, insecure protocols and lack of authentication among other factors within the
DNS threaten proper functionality of the DNS. Moreover, the accuracy of the information
contained within the DNS is vital to many aspects of IP based communications. Domain Model
for the Organization The domain appropriate for this organization is the Berkeley Internet Name
Domain (BIND). This domain name is selected since it compatible with most operating systems
including UNIX; it is also used by most Internet Service Providers (Stevens, 1990). In addition,
BIND is recommended for the firm since its configuration files are easier to maintain than other
server DNSs such as Sendmail (Terry, Painter, Riggle, Zhou, 1984). Using this DNS, cache only
name servers are easily placed strategically within the internal network to remove unwanted traffic
and expensive WAN links. Moreover, BIND supports DNS SEC, TSIG IPv4 among other DNS
protocol enhancements. Given the popularity of BIND, it is often targeted by hackers. Therefore,
limiting zone transfers to slave name servers and limiting transfer in the zone can reduce the

Rhetorical Analysis Of The Gettysburg Address
In a time in which the United States was facing one of its greatest crises, the President at the time,
Abraham Lincoln, delivered a speech that became one of his most famous addresses of all time.
His speech carried two primary purposes; reunification and remembrance. The structure of the
address was to remind people of the past, get them to reflect on present events, and get them
thinking about the future. He filled his words with emotion, asking the people to take the sacrifices
of brave men to heart. Abraham Lincolns desire for the reunification of the country could not have
been expressed more clearly, and emotionally than during his Gettysburg Address. The Gettysburg
Address was a short piece of work that carried powerful words throughout its entire structure. In the
beginning, President Lincoln started his address with those ever famous words, Four score and
seven years ago... While these words are famous, it is the rest of the opening ...our fathers brought
forth, upon this continent, a new nation, conceived in liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that
all men are created equal (Lincoln) that carries the powerful message. He uses this opening to
remind those in attendance about the beginnings of their nation and their government. He then
moves on to speak about the present, speaking to the fact that the nation is currently at war with
itself. Doing this stacks on the first point, moving his audience to focus on the present issues.
Finally Abraham Lincoln goes

Ways to have exposure to abortion is urbanization and educate yourself on population growth.
Exposure equals more acceptance of the idea of getting an abortion.
Barbara Agresti Finlay study used data from a sample of students at a large southern university.
Finlay wanted to see the differences between male and female in correlation to attitudes towards
abortion. Finlay study revealed male s abortion attitudes are simpler in structure than those of
females. The reason for this is because males abortion attitudes are related primarily to their degree
of conventionality in sexual and nonsexual matters. The reason for this in females is because
females abortion attitudes are related to a broader set of attitudinal variables. The attitudinal
variables include sex role conventionality, the value of children in their life plans, the right to life
issue, sexual, and general conventionality. Women have a greater ability to emphasize so they
understand why some women might want to have an abortion. Female opinions on abortion involve
more humanitarian aspects than males.
In the late 1960s and early 1970s, there were several studies of attitudes toward the practice and
legalization. These studies were done by Westoff, Blake, Jones, Mileti, and Barnett. The studies that
were done focused on the description of attitudes toward abortion and how they changed over time.

My Life In America As An Undocumented Immigrants Summary
Outlaw: My Life In America As An Undocumented Immigrant by Jose Antonio Vargas from the
New York Times, is a narrative essay that focuses on telling a story of past events. Vargas
proposes that since he grew up in America that this is considered his home. Vargas believed he
would be granted citizenship if he worked harder and achieved more. His motivation of sharing
his childhood journey would be the relief of him coming forward about his legal status to those
who were not aware and to those who he truly cares about but could not risk sharing his story
with. Vargas tone and stance attracts people who are or have already been through the same path
and for those that come to America to live the American Dream like Vargas intended to. Vargas
concludes he is trapped in duplicity and being dishonest about his legal status is destroying his
character. Even though, Vargas convinces me about his difficult journey as an undocumented
immigrant, his belief that coming forward with the truth of his legal status will allow him to
regain his values or the trust of those who he has already lied to is unconvincing because after all
those years it has become a part of his selfhood.
Throughout the essay, Vargas references the inner struggle that he had to face day in and day out.
The fear of being uncover, the stress behind who can be trusted and what he was able to do.
Vargas worked towards gaining a career hoping it would have a positive influence in his
legalization status. It means

How Is Gandhi Successful
Success is defined as the accomplishment of an aim or purpose. Mohandas Gandhi was a
nonviolence activist whose goal was to gain rights for the Indian people, gain India s independence
from Britain, and unite all religions in India without violence. Gandhi accomplished many victories
throughout his life, big and small, but he was only partially successful. Gandhi went his whole life
fighting for what he believed in, but was he actually successful in accomplishing these goals?
Gandhi started off small with trying to acquire rights for the Indians in South Africa. His goal was
initiated by a personal experience when he was a lawyer traveling in South Africa and thrown off a
train because of his skin color. At this point in time, Indians had little to no rights. Consequently,
Gandhi started a nonviolencemovement to gain some of these rights back. This movement was
successful as the government gave into his wishes and granted the most of the rights back to the
Indians. Therefore, Gandhi moves to a bigger scale when he decides that he wants to help Indiagain

Essay On Ancient South America Religion
Religions of Ancient South America emerged from expressions of internal engagements with
external factors. In ancient South America it was seen how the environment and landscapes aided
in the shaping of the cosmology of ancient religions. A wide known religion that arose from this
matter was the Inka religionbut this traces further back to the cultural ancestors of the Inka, the
Chavin. The Chavin and preceding religions were ongoing developments and continuities that were
inherited and built upon earlier expressions. The Chavin is known as the Early Horizon because it
was a religion that was the first Pan Andean religion that would pass on its practices and
cosmologies to preceding civilizations. As mentioned earlier these religions were... Show more

In the Preceramic we find evidence of religious traditions that are later on seen again in the
Chavin and preceding Andean religions but each. For example in Chinchorro from the
Preceramic we see the mortuary practice of mummification. Michael E. Moseley author of The
Incas and Their Ancestors: The Archaeology of Peru explains, ...artificial mummification of
corpses was a social distinction conferred upon important people who were generally born to
privileged status... (Moseley, 100). The mummies of Chinchorro were conserved in an unusual
way: wooden shafts would be added as support for certain body parts; the body cavities would be
filled; coats of clay were applied to the exterior. The mummies were made accessible to the living
for a reasonable amount of time before disposing of them by interment. Moseley explains that this
mortuary practice reflects the Andean belief that the bodies needed to be physically intact in order
to enter the afterlife and join their ancestors. Similarly, the Chavin adapted this practice, but
executed it in a different manner. During the Chavin corpses were ...placed in a flexed seated
position and bound with cords to maintain the pose... (Moseley, 161). The body was

During the traffic stop, the deputy allegedly detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the

My First Day As A Kindergartener
My First day as a Kindergartener
One day afternoon, in my first day of kindergarten as I got out of school I was waiting for my
mom to pick me up and sign me out from my teachers signout list, in order to be released.
However, as I waited, many of my peers were getting picked up but me. As I began to see that
many of my peers began to leave, the classroom started to become more empty. Then as I waited,
I finally got called to be released but I didn t see my mom. I saw a strange woman smiling
towards me and asking me how my day went as I got closer, but I didn t answer. As I walked
towards my teacher and the woman I was really confused and a million things began to cross my
mind. The woman had many children with her which made me feel really doubtful even though I
thought they were her children. However, I then realized that there were too many children in
order for them to be hers. So, if they weren t her children who were they? Or even a more
intriguing question; Who was she? Getting to know her was not so difficult, as I thought it would
be. Even though I didn t say much about myself when she began questioning me I felt there was
going to be a connection between us. As we had walked for a while already with the rest of the
children, we finally arrived to the place she had parked her car. After we got inside her car she
began heading towards a street that I had already passed through with my mom. As she drove
through that street, I saw a playground with a brownish fence

Creative And Practical Skills Essay
Introduction
According to the proposed theory of human intelligence and its development (Sternberg, 1999a), a
common set of processes underlies all aspects of intelligence. These processes are hypothesized to
be universal. These processes are applied to different kinds of tasks and situations depending on
whether a given problem requires practical skills and creative skills.
Practical skills used to implement, apply, or put into practice ideas in real world contexts. It
involves individuals applying their abilities to the kinds of daily problems they confront on the job
or at home. Practical intelligence is the application of the components of intelligence to experience
to: adapt to, (b) shape, and (c) select environments.
In contrast with practical skills, creative skills used to create, invent, discover, imagine, suppose,
or hypothesize. Tests of creative intelligence go beyond tests of analytical intelligence in
measuring performance on tasks that require individuals to deal with relatively novel situations.
Sternberg has shown that assessing a range of abilities beyond that assessed by conventional tests
of intelligence allows one to tap sources of individual differences measured little or not at all by
these tests (Sternberg, 1985). It is also true that people are either practically or creatively skilful or
they have these both skills innate with them. But in consideration to its value in day to day life,
practical skill can be considered more important than creative

The Fundamental Concepts Of Statistics
Question 5
This paper will provide a sample of the fundamental concepts in statistics. During research there is
usually variance between individuals within a group or between different groups. During
hypothesis testing the researcher wants to know if the sample of data collected is truly
representative of the entire population.
Null hypothesis testing is concerned with the correlation or differences in means (continuous data)
between groups. The null hypothesis works on the premise that there is no difference between two
groups such as males and females who respond to a set of items (independent sample T test). The
null hypothesis can also be described as the hypothesized mean being equal to the population mean.
So the null hypothesis is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Whereas, if I fail to reject the null, because I believe the groups are the same when, in fact, they
are different this is a type 2 error. In its simplest terms, Type I error is the incorrect rejection of the
null hypothesis, whereas Type II is the incorrect acceptance of the null hypothesis.
Related to hypothesis testing is the Significance level or cut off point (alpha). The P or the
probability value is one of the indicators that can be used to test the null hypothesis. Usually a
significance level = .05 (95% confidence interval) or lower is the accepted rule for rejecting the
null hypothesis. This means that we will accept up to 5% of type 1 error. Also, P 0.01
sometimes is referred to as statistically highly significant. If the p value is .05, then we would
reject the null hypothesis. Visually, on a bell curve (two tailed test) this can be presented as the
critical region or how far our sample statistic is from the null hypothesis. In relation to P values
there is the confidence interval (or bound). A 0.05 level of significance would be centered on a
95% confidence interval. If our given value sits outside the bound we would reject the null.
However, if our value sits within the interval we would not reject the null hypothesis.
Another concern during research is the issue of sampling error due to only a portion of the
population being used during a study. Even when bias is reduced by random sampling the

Masculinity And Its Effect On Society
These claims by culture and feminism do not match up with the definition of manliness, and that is
where the debate lies. If the discrepancy was due to the researchers Mansfield and Gilmore, what
are they to make of their observations and study? What are we to do with centuries of history in
which humans lived with menat the helm because they were needed? How are we to explain the
unconscious feeling that a manis doing right when he works to provide for his family? How can
we explain the opposite feeling when a man does not? The argument that is not being made on the
manliness side is that men should be the only ones in government or in business or that misogyny
plays any role at all. They are not arguing for a return of the patriarchy, but they are arguing for a
return of true manliness.
It is here that we find the real problem of men today. In a culture that ignores true masculinity and a
society that has no need for men to follow a code, manliness has become something of the past.
Recalling the illustration of Tahiti, men today have a Tahiti mindset. There is no longer any need
for men to protect, provide and procreate due to the expansion of technology and culture. There is
little to compel men to follow manly principles thus they simply choose not to. Jack Donovan
puts it this way: For what may be the first time in history, the average guy can afford to be careless
(188). Men can afford to opt out of contributing to society because there are little to no

Character Analysis Of Shouto Todoroki My Hero
The character I ve chosen is Shouto Todoroki My Hero Academia, which is written by Horikoshi
Kouhei. He s also one of the main protagonists of the story. Todoroki is generally calm, blunt, and
cold. I find it funny how unintelligent he is when it comes to other people s emotions, and even
though he means well sometimes, his words sometimes come off as harsh. He s mainly portrayed
as a calm and collected individual, but Todoroki can get riled up sometimes. Additionally, he s not
one to easily let go of his angeror hatred towards others. Todoroki is 176 cm, or approximately 5 9 ,
as officially stated in his characterprofile. He has heterochromia, as his right eye is gray while his
left eye is blue. Furthermore, his hair is also split evenly into different colors, the left half being
red and the right half being white. Todoroki also has a burn scar over his left eye, from when he
was younger and his mother threw boiling water over his face. His heterochromia and hair is a
not so subtle hint at his power, which is to burn with his left half, and freeze with his right.
However, Todoroki only uses his ability to freeze ice for the majority of the story, due to his
grudge towards his father. He believes that his father is at fault for his mother being sent to the
hospital, and Todoroki s cold personality stems from his harsh upbringing. In My HeroAcademia, a

classmates admit that

Ignatius of Loyola Ignatius of Loyola, born to DoГ±a MarГna SГЎnchez de Licona and BeltrГЎn de OnГЎz in 1491, created a legacy much bigger than himself by founding the Society of Jesus. Serving to the treasurer s household (VelГЎzquez) at first, Ignatius injuries during the Battle of Pamplona fueled a period of reflection in which Ignatius placed his life at the feet of God. Traveling to Manresa after his recovery, Ignatius created the Spiritual Exercises to help others grow closer to God setting the stage for a new religious order. However, these plans were curtailed in the shadow of conflict at the Holy Land. Instead, the companions decided it was time to place themselves at the service of the Holy Father by means of the Society of Jesus with Ignatius delivering his first mass on Christmas Eve, 1538 in the Chapel of the Manger in Rome s Basilica of St. Mary Major, 18 months after his ordination into priesthood. Introduction: This experiment is going to test the ability of antacids and how they absorb acid to see which is a better buffer. An antacid neutralizes acid, and this helps the most with heartburn. Heartburn is where stomach acid is regurgitated back into the esophagus, and this causes a burning feeling in the chest (Oxford University Press, 2017). A buffer is a source of hydroxide ions that can absorb hydrogen ions, which in turn keeps the pH stable (Mader, 2017). Each beaker had its own glass stir rod, and the solutions were stirred until the tablets were completely dissolved. 6 8 drops of bromcresol purple was added to each beaker (bromcresol purple does not change the pH of a solution), and each solution was stirred to mix the indicator with the antacid. All solutions became purple. 10ml of each antacid solution was removed from its beaker and placed in an appropriately labeled test tube, using a pipette. The pipette was cleaned thoroughly between transferring each antacid solution. 1 drop of 0.1m hydrogen chloride (HCl) was added to each test tube. Each test tube was then swirled to mix thoroughly. 0.1m of HCl was continuously added to each test tube drop by drop, mixing after each drop, until the solution lost its purple color and appeared yellow. In order to do this, engineers must realize that major engineering decisions do impact the general public s well being and they must review their decisions to ensure that they are safe. Engineers with reasons to believe that a fellow engineer is not following the rules stated in Canon 1 must report this person to the authorities in charge. This is similar to the CU Honor Code, because the CU Honor Code was established in order to create a community of trust. In order to follow the CU Honor Code, one cannot cheat or plagiarise. This means that students must be honest and truthful when taking tests and doing homework. All of the work done by a student must be their own. The CU Honor Code also relates with ASCE code 5D and 5E. Canon 5 states that an engineer s merit speaks for their professional reputation. Code 5D states that engineers shall not misrepresent their academic or professional qualifications. If a student cheats or plagiarizes, they are misrepresenting their academic qualifications by turning in work that doesn t accurately display their academic capability. Code 5E states that engineers must give credit to fellow engineers where credit is due. Plagiarizing or copying someone else s work, robs that person from the credit they deserve, and gives the credit to a student who doesn t deserve it. Finally, the CU Honor Code relates to ASCE code 6A. Canon 6 states that engineers shall uphold the honor, integrity, and dignity of the engineering profession. The point of the CU Honor Code is for the students of CU Boulder to uphold the honor of the school. Code 6A states that engineers shall not knowingly engage in anything dishonest or unethical. Cheating or plagiarism in any form is unethical and dishonest because if a student turns in work with their name on it, even though the work done isn t their own, then this student is not telling the ... Starting at 2015 the United States will just utilize capital punishment if indicted first degree kill. Some trust that death penalty will prevent killers. I will be contending that capital punishmentdoes not stop lawbreakers and that the United Statesought to cancel this ihumane type of discipline. Before I make my side of the contention, Here is some foundation data on the death penalty. The death penalty was brought over from Britain, when the establishing fathers pronounced autonomy. Europeans gave capital punishment for different violations. The primary recorded execution in America happened in Jamestown, 1608. A man named George Kendall was executed for conspiracy. In the prior provincial days, laws with respect to the death penalty differed relying upon the district and the idea of the wrongdoing. Amid the nineteen century, capital punishment changed drastically. Around this time capital punishment began to lose prevalence. Expresses never again dedicated open executions. All executions were done in private. Pennsylvania was the principal state to receive this pattern. Inevitably a few states abrogated capital punishment all together. In current circumstances, fourteen out of fifty expresses never again complete capital ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. The Oklahoma State Liquor Laws I am going to address the Oklahoma State Liquor Laws. The law specifically in question is section 534, chapter 3 of Title 37 in the Oklahoma Statues. The issue being that, in the state of Oklahoma, the sale of any alcoholic beverage that is over 3.2 percent alcohol volume by weight has to be sold at room temperature and cannot be sold in grocery stores or convenient stores. By law it can only be sold by state licensed liquor stores. This means that the general public has to pay a higher mark up for the alcohol purchased in these privately owned liquor stores and businesses. The law says that such drinks are to be sold only at room temperature. It is also illegal for the sale of higher alcohol content drinks on Sunday s, on election days, and on holidays. Texas, on the other hand, makes the sales of all alcoholic drinks legal in grocery stores, convenient stores, and liquor stores. In September of 1907 Oklahoma accepted prohibition as part of the new state s constitution. In January of 1919, Oklahoma became the eighteenth state to ratify, or make valid, the Eighteenth Amendment. The Eighteenth Amendment prohibited the making, selling and transportation of alcohol. In February of 1933 the Twenty First Amendment to the United States Constitution was passed. The Twenty First Amendment repealed the Eighteenth Amendment and gave the individual states the rights to determine the alcohol laws for their own state. When is helping oneself self interest, and when is it rude and selfish? How far does one have to go to not be selfish? In order to be not selfish, must a person spent all their time giving to others? Selfishness is quite different from self interest because it inflicts harm on people, while self interest will almost always help people achieve their goals. Giving to others is an amazing thing to do. Yet, I do not feel it is something that should be automatically expected of people. I think everyone must work hard to get money, and lead the life that they want to live. With hard work comes profit. This profit that people make is used to pay off their own bills, and then buy things they want for themselves. I think that people should take care of others only after they take care of themselves. In the early 1920s Rosewood was a developing town with churches, schools, mills and a growing population. The town was a majority black town, but that was not much of a problem until a white lady cried wolf . Fannie Taylor, wife of James Taylor who worked at a mill nearby, would have an affair with a white man. Fannie and her white lover got into a physical altercation that left Fannie with obvious bruises. To prevent from having to tell James about the affair she told her neighbors that a black man came and attacked her. As word spread throughout the town some people added to her story that Fannie was also raped by the black man. The thought of miscegenation is what angered the men and led to the Rosewood Massacre. During the first week of January, 1923 in Rosewood the angry white men formed a search group for the black man who raped Fannie. The search group murdered nearly every black man they saw and burned down a portion of Rosewood. In 1997, John Singleton directed the movie Rosewood , which told the story of the Rosewood Massacre. The former said pays little mind to the Persians, saying that they were not considered to be barbarians (Halsall 52). He moves on to the next people with no explanation other that there was more to being barbarian than simply living outside the Roman Empire(Halsall 52). The latter, on the other hand, clearly states that they were thought of as a barbarian culture (Heather, 57 58). This causes the reader to question what exactly the term barbarian meant to the citizens of the Roman Empire and how this related to the Sassanid Persians. The label of barbarian was related to the lifestyle, morality, and martial skill of a group. The Sassanid Persians... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One example of Persian military capability was Emperor Julian s failed invasion of Persia in 363 (Maas, 336). Not only did the emperor die due to wounds inflicted in battle, but his successor, Jovian, had to make a truce with the Persians in order to return home (Maas, 336). Considering the view that barbarians represented humanity s irrationality, the Romans would not have wanted to believe that their greatest military rivals were barbarians. Therefore, it is only natural that they did not label the Persians as such. One should remember that while they might have believed that Western barbarian cultures were less able to plan a battle due to a lack of reason, it does not mean that they were actually poor fighters. In fact, they could rival the Roman army in all but training and numbers (Halsall, 146). They were even able to defeat Roman troops from time to time. One example from the early empire, was the loss of three legions led by P. Quinctilius Varus to an alliance of Germanic fighters (Heather, 46). The person is so distraught that they start issuing harsh demands. The speaker wants everything to stop and all noise to seize. He or she then starts revealing more personal details by telling how much the loved one meant to them. This poem is dramatic and successfully uses literary devicesto show how the speaker is feeling in their time of grief. W.H. Auden uses metaphors, personification, and overstatements to reveal the effects of overwhelming grief. First, W.H. Auden uses metaphors throughout the poem in order to reveal how the speaker feels for the loved one they lost. A metaphor is a figure of speech in which a word or phrase is applied to an object or action to which it is not literally applicable. The first metaphor W.H. Auden uses is He was my North, my South, my East and West (9). This metaphor conveys that the person who has died means a lot to the speaker. The directions refer to the direction the speaker s life is going. This implies that the speaker has lost all direction now that they have lost this loved one. • 32. Essay on Biofilms A biofilm is a layer consisting of various combinations of many different organisms, autotrophic and heterotrophic. They are dense, organized communities of cells, encased in a self produced slime. The bacteria grow together in water like atmospheres, attaching to a solid surface, forming a small ecosystem. Biofilms are known as a micro environment, a micro habitat, or a slime matrix. They help decompose dead organisms and recycle carbon and nutrients. Biofilms are formed on almost any surface that is submerged in non sterile water. Even hot springs, and glaciers. The final and continuous step is when other organisms attach to the biofilms. The formation of biofilms is not random but can be predicted by the process above. The biofilms become attached to surfaces because of gravity, or bacteria that have a negative charge. The bacteria senses and goes to the highest concentration of nutrients. Biofilms are hard to treat for many reasons. The main reason is because they are highly resistant to antibiotics. This is because the outer cells protect the inner cells from the antibiotic. Therefore, a long term treatment of antibiotics is required to help the biofilm related infection. Living in groups, give bacteria properties they didn t have when living alone. Another reason they re hard to treat is because they are undefeatable by the body s natural immune defense system. Biofilms avoid chemical disinfection in two different ways. The second is that even if a biocidal agent is introduced in a large enough quantity to eliminate the living bacteria, then ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

International Institutions, Treaties, And Sanctions Essay International Institutions, Treaties, and Sanctions and Their Effects on International Business International institutions abound in the realm of international business. As globalization increases, disputes multiply. The responsibilities of these organizations can vary due to the needs of its members, such as monetary or trade issues. Moreover, the support these institutions provide may come in the form of various agreements to include the negotiation or enforcement of sanctions and treaties which will either stop or promote trade between nations. International Institutions There are varying types of organizations which monitor or assist with disputes or negotiations on an international level. Some of these factions focus on a more regional area, such as the Free Trade Commission, not to be confused with the United States Federal Trade Commission (FTC). According to NAFTAnow.org (2013), the Free Trade Commission watches over the North American Free Trade Act (NAFTA) which took effect in 1994. This agreement, as a result, lifted trade barriers between Mexico, the United States, and Canada. The Free Trade Commission has representatives from all three member nations who implement, oversee, negotiate, and resolve disputes arising from the interpretation of the agreement (About NAFTA | North American Free Trade Agreement, 2013). Internal Domain Name System for Company Internal Domain Name System for Company Alpha Introduction The DNS is a vital Internet component providing mechanisms for resolving host names into IP addresses and vice versa. In addition, DNS supports other Internet directories concerning DNS name servers and mail exchangers among others (Garfinkel Spafford, 1997). Despite being a universally accepted and widely used system, insecure protocols and lack of authentication among other factors within the DNS threaten proper functionality of the DNS. Moreover, the accuracy of the information contained within the DNS is vital to many aspects of IP based communications. Domain Model for the Organization The domain appropriate for this organization is the Berkeley Internet Name Domain (BIND). This domain name is selected since it compatible with most operating systems including UNIX; it is also used by most Internet Service Providers (Stevens, 1990). In addition, BIND is recommended for the firm since its configuration files are easier to maintain than other server DNSs such as Sendmail (Terry, Painter, Riggle, Zhou, 1984). Using this DNS, cache only name servers are easily placed strategically within the internal network to remove unwanted traffic and expensive WAN links. Moreover, BIND supports DNS SEC, TSIG IPv4 among other DNS protocol enhancements. Given the popularity of BIND, it is often targeted by hackers. Vargas proposes that since he grew up in America that this is considered his home. Vargas believed he would be granted citizenship if he worked harder and achieved more. His motivation of sharing his childhood journey would be the relief of him coming forward about his legal status to those who were not aware and to those who he truly cares about but could not risk sharing his story with. Vargas tone and stance attracts people who are or have already been through the same path and for those that come to America to live the American Dream like Vargas intended to. Vargas concludes he is trapped in duplicity and being dishonest about his legal status is destroying his character. Even though, Vargas convinces me about his difficult journey as an undocumented immigrant, his belief that coming forward with the truth of his legal status will allow him to regain his values or the trust of those who he has already lied to is unconvincing because after all those years it has become a part of his selfhood. Throughout the essay, Vargas references the inner struggle that he had to face day in and day out. The fear of being uncover, the stress behind who can be trusted and what he was able to do. • 51. Creative And Practical Skills Essay Introduction According to the proposed theory of human intelligence and its development (Sternberg, 1999a), a common set of processes underlies all aspects of intelligence. These processes are hypothesized to be universal. These processes are applied to different kinds of tasks and situations depending on whether a given problem requires practical skills and creative skills. Practical skills used to implement, apply, or put into practice ideas in real world contexts. It involves individuals applying their abilities to the kinds of daily problems they confront on the job or at home. Practical intelligence is the application of the components of intelligence to experience to: adapt to, (b) shape, and (c) select environments. In contrast with practical skills, creative skills used to create, invent, discover, imagine, suppose, or hypothesize. Tests of creative intelligence go beyond tests of analytical intelligence in measuring performance on tasks that require individuals to deal with relatively novel situations. Sternberg has shown that assessing a range of abilities beyond that assessed by conventional tests of intelligence allows one to tap sources of individual differences measured little or not at all by these tests (Sternberg, 1985). It is also true that people are either practically or creatively skilful or they have these both skills innate with them. • 52. The Fundamental Concepts Of Statistics Question 5 This paper will provide a sample of the fundamental concepts in statistics. During research there is usually variance between individuals within a group or between different groups. During hypothesis testing the researcher wants to know if the sample of data collected is truly representative of the entire population. Null hypothesis testing is concerned with the correlation or differences in means (continuous data) between groups. The null hypothesis works on the premise that there is no difference between two groups such as males and females who respond to a set of items (independent sample T test). The null hypothesis can also be described as the hypothesized mean being equal to the population mean. So the null hypothesis is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Whereas, if I fail to reject the null, because I believe the groups are the same when, in fact, they are different this is a type 2 error. In its simplest terms, Type I error is the incorrect rejection of the null hypothesis, whereas Type II is the incorrect acceptance of the null hypothesis. Related to hypothesis testing is the Significance level or cut off point (alpha). The P or the probability value is one of the indicators that can be used to test the null hypothesis. Usually a significance level = .05 (95% confidence interval) or lower is the accepted rule for rejecting the null hypothesis. This means that we will accept up to 5% of type 1 error. Also, P 0.01 sometimes is referred to as statistically highly significant. If the p value is .05, then we would reject the null hypothesis. Visually, on a bell curve (two tailed test) this can be presented as the critical region or how far our sample statistic is from the null hypothesis. In relation to P values there is the confidence interval (or bound). A 0.05 level of significance would be centered on a 95% confidence interval. If our given value sits outside the bound we would reject the null. However, if our value sits within the interval we would not reject the null hypothesis. Another concern during research is the issue of sampling error due to only a portion of the population being used during a study. Even when bias is reduced by random sampling the ... • 53. Masculinity And Its Effect On Society These claims by culture and feminism do not match up with the definition of manliness, and that is where the debate lies. If the discrepancy was due to the researchers Mansfield and Gilmore, what are they to make of their observations and study? What are we to do with centuries of history in which humans lived with menat the helm because they were needed? How are we to explain the unconscious feeling that a manis doing right when he works to provide for his family? How can we explain the opposite feeling when a man does not? The argument that is not being made on the manliness side is that men should be the only ones in government or in business or that misogyny plays any role at all. They are not arguing for a return of the patriarchy, but they are arguing for a return of true manliness. It is here that we find the real problem of men today. In a culture that ignores true masculinity and a society that has no need for men to follow a code, manliness has become something of the past. Recalling the illustration of Tahiti, men today have a Tahiti mindset. There is no longer any need for men to protect, provide and procreate due to the expansion of technology and culture. There is little to compel men to follow manly principles thus they simply choose not to. Jack Donovan puts it this way: For what may be the first time in history, the average guy can afford to be careless (188). Men can afford to opt out of contributing to society because there are little to no ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. Character Analysis Of Shouto Todoroki My Hero The character I ve chosen is Shouto Todoroki My Hero Academia, which is written by Horikoshi Kouhei. He s also one of the main protagonists of the story. Todoroki is generally calm, blunt, and cold. I find it funny how unintelligent he is when it comes to other people s emotions, and even though he means well sometimes, his words sometimes come off as harsh. He s mainly portrayed as a calm and collected individual, but Todoroki can get riled up sometimes. Additionally, he s not one to easily let go of his angeror hatred towards others. Todoroki is 176 cm, or approximately 5 9 , as officially stated in his characterprofile. He has heterochromia, as his right eye is gray while his left eye is blue. Furthermore, his hair is also split evenly into different colors, the left half being red and the right half being white. Todoroki also has a burn scar over his left eye, from when he was younger and his mother threw boiling water over his face. His heterochromia and hair is a not so subtle hint at his power, which is to burn with his left half, and freeze with his right. However, Todoroki only uses his ability to freeze ice for the majority of the story, due to his grudge towards his father. He believes that his father is at fault for his mother being sent to the hospital, and Todoroki s cold personality stems from his harsh upbringing. In My HeroAcademia, a week before final exams, their teacher reminds them to study for the exams, and some of his classmates admit that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
