LAND USE LAND COVER AND NDVI OF MIRZAPUR DISTRICT, UPRAHUL
This Dissertation explores the particular circumstances of Mirzapur, a region located in the
core of India. Mirzapur, with its varied terrains and abundant biodiversity, offers an optimal
environment for investigating the changes in vegetation cover dynamics. Our study utilizes
advanced technologies such as GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and Remote sensing to
analyze the transformations that have taken place over the course of a decade.
The complex relationship between human activities and the environment has been the focus
of extensive research and worry. As the global community grapples with swift urbanization,
population expansion, and economic progress, the effects on natural ecosystems are becoming
more evident. A crucial element of this impact is the alteration of vegetation cover, which plays a
significant role in maintaining the ecological equilibrium of our planet.Land serves as the foundation for all human activities and provides the necessary materials for
these activities. As the most crucial natural resource, its utilization by humans results in different
'Land uses,' which are determined by both human activities and the physical characteristics of the
land.
The utilization of land is impacted by human needs and environmental factors. In countries
like India, rapid population growth and the emphasis on extensive resource exploitation can lead
to significant land degradation, adversely affecting the region's land cover.
Therefore, human intervention has significantly influenced land use patterns over many
centuries, evolving its structure over time and space. In the present era, these changes have
accelerated due to factors such as agriculture and urbanization. Information regarding land use and
cover is essential for various planning and management tasks related to the Earth's surface,
providing crucial environmental data for scientific, resource management, policy purposes, and
diverse human activities.
Accurate understanding of land use and cover is imperative for the development planning
of any area. Consequently, a wide range of professionals, including earth system scientists, land
and water managers, and urban planners, are interested in obtaining data on land use and cover
changes, conversion trends, and other related patterns. The spatial dimensions of land use and
cover support policymakers and scientists in making well-informed decisions, as alterations in
these patterns indicate shifts in economic and social conditions. Monitoring such changes with the
help of Advanced technologies like Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems is
crucial for coordinated efforts across different administrative levels. Advanced technologies like
Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems

The assassination of Leon Trotsky was unjust because he spread the ideal of socialism, he was

Leon Trotsky was unjust because he spread the ideal of socialism. He was inspired by the socialist
message he received. He also had to deal with a lot of different case. In 1902, he escaped to
England using a forged passport under the name of Leon Trotsky (his original name was Lev

The Tell Tale Heart , by Edgar Allan Poe, was a very thought provoking and dark read. The
narrator of the story had some sort of disease that sharpened his senses. He watched over this
man who he loved and cared for significantly. The narrator had absolutely nothing against the
man, except one day he realized that the old man s pale blue eye drove him nuts. There was just
something about the eye that made him tick. Whenever it fell upon me, my blood ran cold; and
so by degrees, very gradually I made up my mind to take the life of the old man, and thus rid
myself of the eye forever. For seven nights, at midnight, the narrator would go into the old man s
room and put in a lantern. He would then, very slowly and quietly, open the lantern so

4. The Failure Of Mediation In Darfur
Introduction
At the time of writing, the Syrian conflict has raged on for nearly half a decade, while that in
Darfur for well over a decade. In both instances, some of the international community s most
experienced mediators attempted to halt the fighting. None, however, were able to bring more than
a few days of respite to these violent conflicts.
Since the end of World WarII, mediation has grown as a form of conflict management tool. As
mediation gained prominence and primacy in international relations as a method for war
termination, wars are more often decided in a meeting room than on the battlefield. In fact, since
the end of the Cold War, the trend in war termination has almost reversed as the number mediated

With every failed ceasefire, conflicts, like those in Darfur and Syria, become more complex,
entrenched and widespread; conflict actors multiply, grievances become further aggravated, more
territory is engulfed in violence and the means of aggression become more brutal. The failure of a
ceasefire sets a peace process back tremendously and often gives rise to further bloodshed.
Successive failures, particularly in situations of acute power imbalances and deeply held
perceptions of injustice, often contribute to a conflict becoming protracted and intractable, making
it almost impossible to mediate. There is a growing urgency therefore to understand how to more
effectively mediate durable ceasefires more effectively.
The challenge of reaching a ceasefire, in large part, stems from the nature of the armed conflict
itself. Most conflicts today take place within the borders of states and are fought between state
actors and armed groups. Intra state conflicts are particularly challenging to mediate as the obvious
asymmetry in favour of the state often precludes its officials from accepting any mediation. State
actors are usually well organised, have the full force of the state s security apparatus at their
disposal and enjoy legitimacy in eyes of the international community. In contrast, armed groups, at
least initially, are a band of civilians: untrained in warfare; incoherent in philosophy; disjointed in
structure; and unsupported

I would like to focus and investigate the lack of age appropriate transportation services for the
elderly and people with disabilities. The issue of transportation becomes a major concern when
the elderly and people who are disabled develop uncontrollable age related illnesses and are no

elderly to stay at home which may lead to despair and other emotions. Therefore, it is essential to

7. Examples Of Foreshadowing In Popular Mechanics
Raymond Carver, author of Popular Mechanics , is a minimalist writer. Using the least amount of
setting and character dynamics Carver makes the audience analyze the small details and actions
that the people in the story do that would be seemingly nothing. The word little at the beginning
of the story is something that a lot of readers do not catch the first time reading this story, but it is
a very important word that plays into the rest of the story. Carver uses small actions to grab the
reader s attention later in the story. Small actions, such as the woman picking up the baby s picture
and the knocked down flower pot, take on larger significances, such as what the state of the
relationship is, in Popular Mechanics .

The readers first impression of the couple is dialogue. Dialogue is a very important element that
contributes to the tone in Popular Mechanics . The dialogue in this story is almost exclusively
short. The first time the reader gets dialogue is after the author sets the scene and initial mood. I
m glad you re leaving! I m glad you re leaving! She said. Do you hear? (277). This automatically
sets an aggressive and tense tone to the story. The reader is never told what the couple is breaking
up over, the only thing the reader gets is that the couple is fighting over keeping the baby. The
couple only really says that they want the baby, that is the majority of the dialogue in the story.
Unspoken dialogue in Popular Mechanics is immensely important to the story. He was in the
bedroom pushing clothes into a suitcase when she came to the door (277). This example shows the
distance between the couple. The woman is constantly backing away and seemingly running away
from the man, especially with the baby. There is finality in the story even though the reader never
knows what the issues are in the relationship, why the man is leaving, or why they are separating.
In this manner, the issue was decided (278). This short sentence sets the final tone of the story.
There is something sinister and aggressive about this sentence. The audience does not know exactly

9. Achieving Motivation At The Workplace
Question:
1.What is the best way to achieve motivation at work? Explain your answer with reference to
relevant literature and examples.
Problem Statement:
Achieving motivation at the workplace is extremely important as the desire for workers to perform
more efficiently and higher in terms of quality can directly influence the overall performance of a
company (Ridgeway, 1982). Thus, discovering the best way to achieve motivation at work is a very
necessary topic to be discussed. However, the definition of the best may vary from person to
person. The best way to achieve motivation in this essay is defined as achieving work efficiency as
high as possible while maintaining the high morale of employees.
Argument Outline:
В·There is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The theory is the first management theory and it s 100 years old (Stoner, Edward, Gilbert, 2003)
but some of its principles are still effective. Although It treats workers as machines and pre
program them to do their respective jobs and rewards workers for good and excellent working
results and punish them if they fail to make the standard, it introduced piece rates to raise the
employees initiative and therefore enhance the productivity.
В·Evidence: Though being old, practice like piece rate introduced by Taylorism never ages,
especially for labor intensive industries, and even some rather new and fancy industries. For
example, according to the Guardian, 2016, UberEats drivers and riders can earn ВЈ3.30 per
delivery, plus a ВЈ4 promotion amount per job between 11.30am and 2.30pm, or a ВЈ3 promotion
between 6.30pm and 9.30pm, as well as the mileage payment. Piece rate well stimulates the
motivation of workers to do more, do better. Working as a part time translator for a media, my
job was to translate English articles or videos into another language, and I got generously paid on
piece rate. If the articles or videos attracted more readers attention than expected, I could get a
bonus pay which may be higher than or at least equal to the normal pay I got from the translation
work, so I was quite hard working and really dedicated a huge amount of time to the work.

11. Relationship Between Grey And Cameron
The relationship between Grey and Cameron deteriorated rapidly throughout the Waikato Wars.
Grey was constantly searching for one determining knockout blow to defeat Maori forces, while
Cameron was a realist who realised that attacking the Maori Pa head on was suicidal. This
difference in opinion led to the two men arguing constantly which had a profound impact on the war.
The Waikato Wars (1863 1864) were a component of the New ZealandWars which were active
from 1845 to 1872. The wars have also commonly been known as the Maori Wars or the Land
Wars . During these wars there was a huge divide in society. Many people debate whether these
wars were over land or sovereignty. The New Zealand wars were a series of individual battles
between the higher government and various Maori tribes.
The Wars were caused by a miss understanding of ownership between Maori and Pakeha. When the
British settlers came to New Zealand they thought that the Maori were utilising the land like they
should. The settlers wanted to buy the land off the Maori but they refused. But of course, they all
had different views. Maori pass on land from generations and inherit it from their ancestors, whereas
Pakeha can just trade the land more money.
Grey and Cameron s relationship deteriorated hugely during the Invasion of the Waikato. Sir
George Grey (born 1812) made a huge impact on New Zealand during the Waikato Wars. He played
a lead role in the wars between 1863 and 1864.

`American Cinema s first phase (up to around 1917) is characterised by an onscreen coming to

P.3) with all its attendant thrills and anxieties. Discuss.
An evolution of society occurred with the dawn of the twentieth century, an undeniably American
progression. With a sudden introduction to technologies only just tangible, Alexander Graham Bell
s telephone in 1876 and Henry Ford s car in 1908 amongst a few of these newly invented
accomplishments, divisions in wealth and subsequently class became even more distinguished
than before. An exodus to the urban landscape had begun at the turn of the century, between
1880 and 1920 the proportion of Americans living in urban centres grew from 26 to 51 percent
(Lewis, 3), and as the melting pot of New York grew under the divided class system and
overwhelming industrial progress crime inevitably took a hold in the streets and behind closed
doors. D.W Griffiths borns into the world the first ever gangster movie, an urban folk take

Compelling Statement: Homelessness affects people of all age groups, however, youth are
especially affected because ever since they were born, they would rely on their family for basic
necessities. On their own, they barely have the income or education to provide themselves with
necessities to survive. This issue is even more prominent with homeless youth who struggle from
mental health issues. Homeless youth who struggle with mental health face the struggle of seeking
help for their illness while simultaneously trying to survive in the world with no parental guidance
to aid them through their journey. While there is no cure to many mental illnesses, and
homelessness is not an issue that is easily resolved, my aim is to try to alleviate the situation. It is
very hard for youth in general to seek help regarding mental health especially with a certified health
professional. My hope is to try to find some other method that may help someone in need who lacks

14. The Industrial Age In Upton Sinclair s The Jungle
From 1865 to 1910, the Industrial Age was an interesting time of great economic growth and
prosperity for the United States as a whole, however the American citizens who worked to push
this positive chain of success paved the way and paid the cost for that very occurrence. In The
Jungle, a family from Lithuania travels to the United States in order to gain a better living than
what they had in their home country. During their time of adjustment to life within the United
States, some members of the Rudkus and Lukoszaite family especially Jurgis Rudkus, experienced
extreme hardship while attempting to develop their lives into a better state for the sake of their
family s wellbeing. Upton Sinclairopens a small window into the lives of hopeful and hardworking
immigrants to reveal how America s Industrialization Age hindered many from true freedom. This
was due to a lack of care for employees and their wellbeing in the workplace, poor sanitary
conditions that led to unhealthy living conditions for workers, and political corruptionwhich was
held over certain citizens in order to allow corruption to thrive, making workers remain powerless.
Industrialization called for the opening of many different factories for increased economic boom
within America. These factories allowed strenuous jobs to men and children for poor pay. The

Biological Theories of Criminal Behavior Many biological theories of crime have been developed
to explain the analysis of crime and criminality. Scientific studies of research have formed theories
as to what makes a criminal a criminal and what social factors can contribute to criminality. As a
result, criminologyscientists Cesare Lombroso, William Sheldon, and Sandberg believe that the
presence of certain physical traits made it more likely that an individual would become a criminal.
The three scientist each share significant theories of criminal characteristics, criminal personality
and criminal behavioral tendencies. Criminologist Cesare Lombroso studied scientifically the born
criminal Atavism theory, which he believed modern criminals share physical characteristics with
primitive humans, Sheldon studied the somatotype theory, the three body types relating to an
individual personality and Franz Gall discovered and studied the phrenology theory, bumps on the
head could indicate certain criminal tendencies. Each theorist philosophy of criminality conveys a
scientific hypothesis as to what biosocial elements of crimeestablishes an individual as a criminal.
In 1987, while conducting an autopsy of the brigand Villella, Lombroso experienced an unusual, but
interesting epiphany while examining the skull of criminal Villella Giuseppe. Cesare Lombroso
discovered an indention at the base of the skull that he perceived to be commonly shared only
amongst apes.

16. Implementing The New Health Care Reform
1.An important strategy to consider would be monitoring states that are active in adopting the
new health care reform. An analysis of the new reform and its impact on the VA should be
studied. These factors can play a major role in the decisions to be made when making changes in
Ms. Patton s area of control. Care should be integrated, and incentives should be aligned to the
well being of the enrolled population. The fundamental objective of implementation of the
transition plan should be improving patient health. Primary care should be a major focus, and
the goal should be improving the health of the enrolled population. The program should survive
long enough to lead to improvements that can be measured. 2.Advantages of Option 1: The VA
Center will be a part of an ISN/CISN program following the new reform. Senior veterans will be
able to access primary care doctors closer to their homes. Disadvantages of Option 1: The plan is
large scale and will require a lot of time and effort. It might be difficult to convince people to
change their current plans and convince new healthier folks to join. Budget approvals might take
some time to come through. The tie up with the insurance company needs to be well planned.
Advantages of Option 2: This option thinks like the State and opines that ISN would likely
exclude coverage of service connected illness or injury. This plan of action will ensure no drastic
measures are taken to meet the new reform measures. Disadvantage of Option

18. Addiction In The Moonstone
Although the word addiction is never presented in The Moonstone, it plays a prominent role in the
novel. The author Wilkie Collins himself was a laudanum addict, taking it to alleviate his painful
affliction of gout. This may explain the theme in his novel and the sympathetic treatment of addicts,
during a time when addictionwas not recognized as a brain disorder, but rather as a moral failing.
Much like Collins, Ezra is not a bad person, but simply addicted to a substance he cannot quit
taking. Featured in the novel are both opium and tobacco addiction.
The first mention of opium addiction in The Moonstone refers to John Herncastle or the wicked
Colonel. While describing his alleged depravity and low character, one of the rumors mentions ...

Jennings is a doctor that has become addicted to opium after a decade long struggle with an
incurable internal complaint. The excruciating pain this illness has wracked has body with
made opium a necessity. He describes opium as an all potent and all merciful drug. Referring to
his addiction, he says to Franklin, But even the virtues of opium have their limit. The progress
of the disease has gradually forced me from the use of opium to the abuse of it. This is a
surprising sentiment acknowledged by a medical professional as this book was written in 1868.
According to Daily Life in Victorian England, Not until the end of the century did doctors begin
warning about the dangers of addiction (202 203). This remarkable view is likely because of
Collins first hand experience with addiction, rather than medical community s expressed sentiment.
Even more astonishing is Jennings later comment on the perception of opium. The ignorant distrust
of opium (in England) is by no means confined to the lower and less cultivated classes. Every
doctor in large practice finds himself, every now and then, obliged to deceive his patients. Despite
his addiction to the drug, Jennings seems to still accredit it as an important

19. Warren s Theory Of A Fetus Essay
According to Warren, a fetus is not considered a person. She argues that there are two senses of
human: the biological sense and the moral sense. She states that a fetus is not a human in the
moral sense of things. She argues that a fetus, whatever stage of its development, satisfies none of
the basic criteria of personhood, and is not enough like a person to be granted even some of the
same rights on the basis of this resemblance. Warren states that a fetuss potential personhood is not
a threat to the moralityof abortionsince the rights of potential people are invariably overridden in
any conflict with the moral rights of actual people. She argues that in order for a person to be a
member of a moral community there are five traits that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Warren has the reader think of a space explorer falling into the hands of an alien culture scientist
who is trying to replicate hundreds of humans by breaking the body of the space explorer and
using his genetic code. If executed correctly, the newly created society would have the potential
to have all of the skills, knowledge, and abilities of the original space explorer classifying them
as a person. These newly created men would be potential persons. However, the space explorer
has the choice to escape taking the potential of these people away as the explorer has his own
right to life that outweighs the right of the potential lives since they are only potential and not
persons, leaving them no right. The space explorer obtains no moral obligation to sacrifice his
life, or stay in captivity for even a day, for the creating of any number of potential people. Warren
wants one to understand that the right to life of one person outweighs the right to life of any
number of potential people. Although a fetus is a potential person, Warren still holds that abortion
is acceptable in all situations. As we saw through Warren s space explorer example, the rights of
the women will always outweigh the right of the fetus because the women is a person and a fetus
is only a potential person. Because the fetus is a potential person, it has no right to life and not

20. Prejudice In Psychology
In psychology, prejudice is different from discrimination. Prejudice is an unjustifiable and often
negative stereotyped attitude that a person holds against the members of a particular social group.
Whereas, discrimination is when prejudicial attitudes cause members of a particular group to be
treated differently than others in situations that call for equal treatment. Thus, prejudiceleads to
discrimination. There are several factors that contribute to prejudice and discrimination, and there
are many techniques for reducing the development of prejudice and discrimination.
To begin, socialization or having one s upbringing (family, media, etc.) teach and perpetuate
prejudice. According to social cognitive theory, through direct instruction, modeling, and other
social influences on learning, prejudice is viewed as an attitude that is formed as other attitudes are
formed. For instance, the media, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Prejudice can be overcome through education, equal status intergroup contact, and working
together to achieve a specific goal. For instance, education and learning about people who are
different (the out group) and noticing similarities instead of differences can combat prejudice. Also,
equal status contact has been shown to reduce prejudice and discrimination. Equal status contact
requires the different groups to all be in the same situation with neither group holding power over
the other. In equal status contact, personal involvement with people from another group must be
cooperative and occur when all groups are equal in terms of power or status to have a positive
effect on reducing prejudice. Also, having people work together to solve a problem because each
person has an important key to solving the problem, creating a mutual interdependence, helps
reduce prejudice. This technique is called the jigsaw

Unlike the first two days during which I conducted my experiment, the levels of PM 2.5 did not

PM 2.5 for the day, 4 were green locations (Dorechester Condominiums, Rittenhouse Square, New
College House and Clark Park) and 4 were red locations ( Liberty Lands, Granary Apartments,
Sister Cities Park, and Schimdt Commons). The average level of PM 2.5 for the green locations
was 12.79 and the average level of PM 2.5 for the red locations was 11.75. Although the green
locations had the highest levels of PM 2.5 on average, the difference between the averages for
both sets of living spaces was relatively small. The AQI score on Day 3 was 40, which mas much
higher than the scores on Day 1 and Day 2. This factor explains why the average amount PM 2.5

However, if one really looks into the history of this message on the wall, they can see an

The rise of rock n roll and the reception of it, in fact, can tell us a lot about the culture and values
of the United States in the 1950s. According to historians James Gilbert, there was a struggle
throughout the decade over the uses of popular culture to determine who would speak to what
audience, and for what purpose . At the center of that struggle, rock n roll unsettled a nation had
been living in an age of anxiety since 1945 (p.15). Altschuler talks about how music and race
interlock with one another. Rock had become a highly visible and contested arena for struggles
over racial identity and cultural and economic empowerment in the United States (p.35). Other
chapters within the book state the battles involving sexuality, generational conflicts, as well as
other social issues. The author states ideas that are somewhat problematic. For example, he
states that there is a myth that rock n roll went into a lull following the payola hearings (the
practice of record promoters paying DJs or radio programmers to play their labels songs) of 1959
and did not come about again until the arrival of the Beatles in 1964. Rock n roll presented us
with the emergence of a cultural phenomenon, which the book lays out for us. Altschuler sees rock

219). The website, 10 Incredible Facts About the Criminal Brain stated that a portion of the
amygdala, a piece of the brain responsible for human emotion, had a volume of about 18% less
than what you would find in a normal person ( 10 Incredible Facts About the Criminal Brain 1)
This lack of amygdala, could ve contained the emotion for mercy, and that would be why
Montresor doesn t feel repentance for trapping Fortunato (Poe 214). The Tell Tale Heart also
provides the lack of remorse, when the narrator states that, There was no pulsation. He was stone
dead. His eye would trouble me no more (Poe 3). That same website also stated that psychopaths
show no emotion of fear, which can keep them from feeling sorrow (10 Incredible Facts About the
Criminal Brain 5 ). So the unawareness of fear is what the narrator experiences, and what prevents
him from feeling remorse. In short, it s the mental problems in experiencing fear/ mercy, that cause
a criminal mind, to experience no guilt for the

37. Setting Archetypes
ARCHETYPAL SETTINGS 1. The River Almost any source of water will focus on the importance
of life. Without water there is no life. A journey on or down a river is often a metaphor for life s
journey or a character s journey, especially if the river is shown as a road or means of travel pulling
or pushing a character through changes. (Twain s Huck Finn) Rivers can also be a metaphor for
the passage of time (Big Fish) or the stages of a human life (creek, roaring river, sea; or the crossing
of the river Styx in Greek myths). Since rivers are often used as political borders or boundaries,
crossing one may be seen as a passing over or a decision that cannot be taken back. In Africa, and
thus African literature, rivers are the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Journeys on boats are usually long and fraught with dangers that are overcome. Boats are also
related to islands, since crew is isolated from the regular rules of society. 6. The Island The
Island is a metaphor for isolation. People on islands are separated from their society. This can
have a positive or negative effect on characters (Robinson Crusoe vs. Lord of the Flies) Without
the rules of society; the island setting strips away characters down to the very basics of humanity.
7. The Mountain The mountain in Hindu (India) culture was seen as the center of the universe
from which all things could be seen. Since people climb up mountains, characters that climb the
mountains can be seen as moving upward on a spiritual/emotional journey. Biblically, mountains
are places where God reveals his truths to man. In nearly all stories mountains are mysterious,
powerful places. 8. The Wasteland Often a desert, the wasteland represents an emotionally
/physically barren place or time in a character s journey. A character is usually cleansed of fear or
doubt and reconnects to his/her sense of faith or inner strength. Characters usually emerge from the
wasteland stronger and more focused. Occasionally the wasteland wins and a character emerges
from the wasteland insane. 9. The Pasture/Field The pasture represents a simple farming life that is
predictable and calm. Often referred to as a pastoral setting, many characters either begin

38. Essay On My Work Report To Work
October 26, 2017 I reported to the slap program for my first day. During the beginning of the
work day I was placed with two gentlemen to work with who was in the slap program, along
with an elder Caucasian male who was county staff. At approximately 9:00am or so we bang
working on an assignment that the elder from the county staff placed us on which was bringing
boxes up to an abandoned cell area. After completing the task with the boxes the county staff
(AKA the elder mentioned previously) had us go to a basement area that was completely hot and
not comfortable for my personal health (asthma). While in that basement I seen dust and old mask
on the floor but none worn by the elder nor none provided to me nor the other two (slap gentlemen)

It would be much better to just bring up as many as possible to avoid the multiple trips in the
humid hot basement area that was very limited with oxygen. This elder told me in a very nasty
disposition once more that he works how he wants and now to wait in the lobby he will have the
other slap member bring the shelves up as well one by one and then I throw them out in which I
complied to no problem. After completing the shelves we went for lunch, and when coming
back from lunch we (slap members) were told to sweep the leaves from the the sidewalk as well
as the street and surrounding areas which I complied. The next day I received a call from the
Sargent stating that she received a complaint from a supervisor from the county staff that I had
supposedly complained about my asthma when told to rake leaves in which I explained to her
they fabricated the truth and she tells me I am now considered to be a liability in a very
dismissive manner. This female Sargent has been very passive aggressive since the first day that
I have showed to sign up for the program as well as on my first day attending the program (as the
date mentioned previously.) On the first day that I attended the program October 26th the same
female Sargent was speaking to a lieutenant explaining to him how she was subpoenaed because of
a previous slap member and they were going back and fourth trying to figure out a

39. Research Paper On Tyson Foods
Where does our food come from? Often the answer is Tyson Foods, America s meat factory.
STORIES FROM OUR ADVERTISERS
Tyson, one of the nation s 100 biggest companies, slaughters 135,000 head of cattle a week, along
with 391,000 hogs and an astonishing 41 million chickens. Nearly all Americans regularly eat
Tyson meat at home, at McDonalds, at a cafeteria, at a nursing home.
Even if Tyson did not produce a given piece of meat, the consumer is really only picking between
different versions of the same commoditized beef, chicken, and pork that is produced through a
system Tyson pioneered, says Christopher Leonard, a longtime agribusiness journalist, in his new
book about Tyson called The Meat Racket.

Many chicken farmers don t even own the chickens they raise or know what s in the feed. They
just raise the poultry on contract for Tyson, and many struggle to make a living.
Concerned by the meat oligopoly s dominance of rural America, President Obama undertook a push
beginning in 2010 to strengthen antitrust oversight of the meat industry and make it easier for
farmers to sue meatpackers. The aim was grand: to create a new rural economy to empower
individual farmers.
Big Meat s lobbyists used its friends in Congress to crush the Obama administration s regulatory
effort, which collapsed in spectacular failure, Leonard writes.
Factory farming has plenty of devastating consequences, but it s only fair to acknowledge that it
has benefited our pocketbooks. When President Herbert Hoover dreamed of putting a chicken in
every pot, chicken was a luxury dish more expensive than beef. In 1930, whole dressed chicken
retailed for $6.48 a pound in today s currency, according to the National Chicken Council. By last
year, partly because of Tyson, chicken retailed for an average price of $1.57 per pound much less

40. Symbolism In The Awakening
Birds and the Sea: Symbolism in The Awakening, a novel by Kate Chopin.
Kate Chopin s novel, The Awakening, is loaded with of symbols. Chopin uses birds, clothing,
characters, language, and other symbols to support the theme of the story. This essay will focus
on the symbolism of learning to swim in the sea and how Chopin intertwines this and a few other
symbols with her main character Edna Pontellier. Most of the symbols Chopin employs in some
way lead the reader back to the primary message of the novel; self discovery and independence
are wonderful ideas, but in the late eighteen hundreds they can lead a woman outside of societal
expectations, independence aloneness, but can also create a lot of strife and may lead her to
solitude, depression, and suicide. The Awakening is about Edna, a young wife and mother who
discovers from learning to swim that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The voice of the sea speaks to the soul. The touch of the sea is sensuous, enfolding the body in its
soft, close embrace (loc 284).
Through interactions with her some of her friends, Edna begins the journey into solitude and
breaks away from her husband, discovers herself and decides that she wants to live alone, and
moves away from her family into a nearby apartment to live independently.
Edna recognizes the difficulties of living the life she desires and the necessity of living by the
exceptions of those around her. She first recognizes this as she bathes in the ocean, throughout the
summer, off the shoreline near Grand Isle, Louisiana, and experiences or feels a sort of rebirth or a
new feeling or yearning.
That night she was like the little tottering, stumbling, clutching child, who of a sudden realizes its
powers, and walks for the first time alone, boldly and with over confidence (loc

41. Battle Of Guadalcanal Research Paper
Sophie Flucas Mr. Masters US 3 15 May 2015 Battle of Guadalcanal 38,000. 36,765. These
numbers both have different things in common. The first number you see is how many Allies and
Japanese have either been killed, are missing, or were wounded during the Battle of Guadalcanal.
The second number you see is approximately the number of Americans, Chinese, Russians, and
Eastern Europeans, etc. that have been wounded, missing, or killed in the war in Iraq. There were
more deaths in a six month period of time than the amount of deaths in an eight year war in Iraq.
With that in mind, there are many things that are still unseen and unheard of such as: when and
why the Battle of Guadalcanal started, who it was between, who won, and many other unanswered

the same. On that night, was when the Naval Battle of Guadalcanal began. On November 14th,
two days later CAF and an aircraft from the USS Enterprise found seven of Tanka s transports.
Once spotted, CAF and the aircraft sunk all seven of the transporting carriers. Even though they

42. The Heroin Epidemic Essay
Volunteering and participating in service projects are two of the most rewarding activities in my
opinion. Some people may find it was a hassle or only do it because they have to meet the
minimum requirement for school or work. Helping others, for me, has always been somewhat
second nature to me. Over many years of volunteering I believe I have developed qualities that
will stick with me for life and benefit me in my career. As early as freshman year, in high school, I
found myself looking for ways to give back. I started by looking for opportunities within school,
where I came across the A+ tutoring program, and so my journey of giving back began. While
tutoring, my patience for others really evolved, partly by choice and partly because... Show more

You would think that people would stop using when they hear the statistics, or when they see their
friend die because of it, but the truth is they can t stop because they are already addicted. Alison, a
young girl using states, From the day I started using, I never stopped. Within one week I had gone
from snorting heroin to shooting it. Within one month I was addicted and going through all my
money. (International) The expanding epidemic of unawareness is taking its toll on the
adolescents of St. Louis City, St. Louis County, and the rest of the world. Maslow s Hierarchy of
Needs makes it somewhat easier to understand why people use heroin. The top three levels of the
pyramid, 1.social 2.esteem 3.self actualization, show what people are trying to get out of using.
Most people will begin using due to peer pressure and trying to fit in. What kids do not realize is
that the first time using could lead to addiction. So they will continue using because it makes them
feel better about themselves, it becomes a part of who they are. Pretty soon they look around and
realize heroin is the only thing they have left, because everyone else has left. These problems
teens are facing here in Missouri are the same ones they are facing all over the world. A recent
statistic from the International Statistics of Heroin Addiction Abuse reports that over 9 million
people in the world are using heroin. (International) You read stories every day of

43. Strengths And Weaknesses
In order to define and understand myself in the workplace, I need to know my strengths and
weaknesses. What improvements and alterations do I need in order to be a step closer to success
in the workplace? As a starting point, the self assessments provided by McGrawHill and the
information from management class will provide a clearer picture of who I am in terms of leading,
acquired needs, teamwork attitudes, global potential, and strategic thinking. From what I have
gathered, the results relating to personalitywere accurate and the results relating to potential were
surprising to me. With this information, I am able to produce and strengthen goals to improve. The
survey results I am most satisfied with are acquired needs and global potential because a needfor
achievement and potential for global managing are the two qualities I like the most about myself
in terms of my future goals. The negative results that come as no surprise to me are teamwork and
a need for power and affiliation. Although I was aware of these strengths and weaknesses, these self
assessment tests put an emphasis and reminded me that I need to work harder in my attitude and
behaviors when interacting/collaborating with people in the workplace. Whether I got good results
or not, all of these qualities can be continuously worked on for improvement.
The motivation to lead has 3 aspects: how you see yourself as a leader, how willing you are to
lead on your own and how you respond to others ask you to lead (Chan and Drasgow, 2001). I
scored high on my motivation to lead. This was one of the unexpected results since I don t find
it easy to take initiative in leading; it requires a lot of communication and human skills (Kinicki,
2018, p23). In chapter 1 of Kinicki, motivating, directing and influencing people to work hard to
achieve the organization s goals is the definition of leading. To make sure everyone in the
organization is on the same page, one must be able to bring everyone together and resolve any
obstacles that may come. I have not associated those actions with the term leading but rather
assisting which is probably why I was surprised with the results. Now that I know I have some
motivation to lead, I should work on the next

45. Analysis Of Cmi s New Cushion Pads
1. To calculate the amount a customer should be willing to pay for one of CMI s new cushion
pads, the average costs per real hour of equipment rental, labor, and overhead costs were first taken
into consideration (Figure 1). These amounted to an average cost per real hour of $714.00. Next,
the average costsper real hour of hidden costs were taken into consideration (Figure 2). According
to the case, a contractor could spend 20 to 40 minutes moving the crane into position. This
averaged to 30 ((20 + 40) / 2) minutes, or 50% (30 / 60). Similarly, another 10% to 15% was
added to cover scheduling delays, mistakes, and other unavoidable problems. This averaged to
12.5% ((10% + 15%) / 2). Considering these percentages, the total hidden costs were $258.75. The
total equipment rental, labor, and overhead costs with total hidden costs were $972.75 ($714.00 +
$258.75). In other words, the total average cost per real hour was $972.75. Finally, using this total
average cost per real hour and the case, the total costs for driving time, replacing pads for both the
Kendrick Foundation Company and Corey Construction were calculated (Figure 3). The difference
between the total contract costs, excluding total changing time costs, for conventional pads and
CMI pads for Kendrick Foundation Company was $30,738.90. Similarly, the difference between the
total contract costs, excluding total changing time costs, for conventional pads and CMI pads for
Corey Construction was $30,738.90.
