Loyalty Program Trends Within Retail
Loyalty Program Trends in Retail A loyalty program is a reward based program that is offered by a
company to their customers who make purchases frequently. Loyalty programs have been known to
gain customers more coupons, exclusive access to certain sales, free promotions, and much more.
Many different organizations and stores have created different types of loyalty programs for their
customers over the years. These programs are important to prospective customers in gaining their
loyalty so that they may shop at their store as opposed to another local competitor. Having various
stores with these programs is also beneficial to the customer because stores are constantly competing
against each other. Stores over the years, especially during holiday seasons, are always trying to outdo
their competitors to get you the lowest price possible and them the most sales. Many stores have now
introduced price match where you can bring in a local competitor s ad and they will honor the same
price in their store. This is a great way to bring in customers because the price is no problem if it is
easily adjusted. Stores that you go to every day such as Target, Walmart, Kmart, BestBuy and Toys R
Us all offer price match all year round. Typically with most of these stores, there is a 14 day policy
that you have to bring in another competitor s ad to get that price adjusted to the lowest price. This
gives shoppers the

French And Indian War, Tea Act, And The Boston Tea Party
Did you know the word independence never appears in the Declaration of Independence, rather, it s
titled The unanimous Declaration of the thirteen united States of America. ? The American Revolution
ended two centuries of British rule for most of the North American colonies and created the modern
United States of America. Many key events including the French and Indian War, the Tea Act, and the
Boston Tea Party all contributed to the independence of America.
To start off, The French and Indian War, also known as the Seven Years War, was a key event in the
American Revolution. The French and Indian War was a conflict between Great Britain and
France. The French and Indian War began in 1754 and ended with the Treaty of Paris in 1763. The
results of the war ended French political and cultural influence in North America. England gained a
large amount of land and strongly grasped its hold on the continent. On the other hand, the war created
tension between the English and the Native Americans. This war created an unpleasant relationship
between England and its colonies. For example, the amount of taxes put into the colonists hands from
war debt. Therefore, the French and Indian War was beneficial to the American Revolution. ... Show

This act would help to launch a revolutionary movement in Boston. The Tea Act was designed to
support the British East India Company, which was financially collapsing. It was being weighed down
by eighteen million pounds of unsold tea. The tax on tea still remained, but the company would
actually be able to sell its tea for a price that was lower than before. Also, the colonists had to buy the
tea from the British, and nowhere else. The act was putting a tax on tea sold by companies other than
the East India Company. The Boston Tea Party was a result of this act. The Tea Act played a role in

Smith Columbia College Abstract Behavior therapy is a clinical approach that can be used to treat a
variety of disorders, in various types of settings, and with a wide range of special population groups. A
number of disorders have been successfully treated by using this approach. The popularity of
psychotropic drugs is contributing to the growing risk of prescription drug addiction. This paper will

where this approach is particularly effective and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most people would rather learn how to cope with certain issues on their own. Behavior therapy is
pretty effective in teaching people how to cope with some of life s common problems. Some selected
problem areas that behavior therapy is particularly effective in is anxiety disorders, depression,
substance abuse, eating disorders, domestic violence, sexual deviance, pain management, and
hypertension (Corey, 2005, p. 228). The therapy sessions are well defined and procedural. Both the
therapist and the client have clearly defined roles, and the importance of client awareness and
participation in the therapeutic process is stressed. The therapist teaches concrete skills to the client
utilizing instruction, modeling, and performance feedback (Corey, 2005, p. 235). According to the
text, the client engages in rehearsal with feedback until skills are well learned. The client also often
receives homework assignments to complete between therapy sessions (Corey, 2005, p. 235). In order
for therapy to be successful, the client must be fully cooperative and motivated to change and fully
carry out therapeutic activities. If the clients are not involved in this way, then chances are slim that
therapy will be successful (Corey, 2005, p. 235). References Corey, G. (2005). Theory and practice of

Sandwich Bikes
In the world of home exercise equipment, few pieces have been around as long as the exercise bike.
Although exercise bikes (fitness bikes, studio bikes) received a bad rap for a number of years, being
used as clothes hangers, etc., the new versions are sleek, silent, and easy to use.
There are two basic types of bikes, the upright and the recumbent. An upright is what most people
think of when they think of fitness bikes. The upright is closest to a regular bike, narrow saddle,
pedals below the rider, handle bars out front. On the other hand, a recumbent exercise bike has a wider
seat with a small back support. The pedals are out front, and the rider is in a reclined position. Both
bikes have good and bad points as we shall see.
The traditional setup of an upright bike allows the rider to more closely simulate an actual bike ride
than possible with a recumbent. The rider is able to stand, assume a race crouch, or a neutral position.
Trouble is, if the rider has any sort of back problems, especially lower back, an upright can irritate the
condition leading to worse problems. An upright is more difficult to get on and off of because of a
higher proximity to the ground. This can be problematic for older or overweight people. An upright
takes up less room than a recumbent. You may want to keep this in mind if your exercise area is on the
small side. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Is Grendel Human In Beowulf
Jaeden Young

4/30/16
How is Grendel Human
Human nature is found deep within all of us. We all share the same qualities and feelings; those of
loneliness, jealousy, abandonment, pain, and anger. Throughout all of literature it seems as though the
antagonist beholds these particular characteristics which typically leads to the conflict. In the epic
poem Beowulf, Grendel, the antagonist of this story, can be described using these characteristics.
What the reader fails to recognize is although Grendel is suppose to be a monster he really is more
human than one realizes. Grendel should be looked upon as more humanistic than monstrous to truly
understand his character and to support Beowulf as the hero.

Essay on Self Harm
Introduction Deliberate self harm is a term that covers a wide range of behaviours some of which are
directly related to suicide and some are not. This is a relatively common behaviour that is little
understood. This essay provides an overview of the nature and extent of those most at risk of self
harm, including causes and risk factors. Examining some of the stereotyping that surrounds self harm,
and looking at ways in which self harm can be prevented.
A useful definition of self harm is from Professor Keith Hawton (Hawton et al., 2006. p29). An act
with a non fatal outcome in which an individual deliberately did one or more of the following;

Research clearly indicates a link between self harm and sexual abuse in childhood and was
particularly marked in women who had been subjected to severe, frequent abuse. Further studies
confirmed that the more severe, more prolonged, or a longer duration of sexual abuse was associated
with an increased risk of engaging in self harm as an adult. Marginalization may also be the
explanation for the high risk of self harm in gay, bisexual, transsexual teenagers who are 2 to 3 times
more likely to self harm than heterosexual young people, this groups results in regular absenteeism at
school due to homophobic harassment. 50% of those reported bullied at school had contemplated self
harm, 40% of those had self harmed at least once. A survey in 2000 to 2002 interviewed 2,430 lesbian
women, gay men and bisexual men and women in England and Wales and concluded that there is a
greater link between discrimination and mental health issues. (Truth Hurts, Mental Health Foundation
2006). Asian women aged 15 to 35 are two to three times more vulnerable to self harm than their non
Asian counterparts. Research revealed a complex range of disturbing issues, isolation, despair, many
forms of family abuse, conflicts between generations, with many reporting unrealistic pressures of
rigid matrimonial roles and duties in maintaining

A Study On The Hydrophobic Anchor Which Holds The...
The hydrophobic anchor which holds the Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) of gram negative bacteria in the
outer leaflet of the outer membrane is Lipid A. This component is produced within the bacterial cell
cytoplasm through the Lpx biosynthetic pathway (reference). Lipid A is then transported to the outer
membrane (OM) via the Lpt biosynthetic pathway (reference). Lipid A is highly conserved, essential
for virulence and bacterial viability. These qualities make it an attractive drug target which could aid
in the development of inhibitors of gram negative bacteria. A recent study of the Lpx pathway has
resulted in the identification of a key potential rate limiting enzyme (reference). That enzyme is

INTRODUCTION
Antibiotics are developed for the treatment of bacterial infections due to their effective clinical
properties (Appendix Fig. 2). They are extensively utilized for the inhibition of bacterial; DNA, RNA,
proteins and cell wall synthesis (reference). However, the efficiency of treating bacterial infections has
vastly deteriorated because of the ongoing emergence of multi drug resistant pathogens (Appendix
Fig. 3 Table 1 8) (reference). The prolonged use and misuse of antibiotics have resulted in the
evolution of bacteria attaining mechanisms which, prevent antibiotics from binding to their molecular
targets (Appendix Fig. 4) (reference). Additionally, antibiotic resistance occurs in both gram negative
and gram positive bacteria. An important aspect of antimicrobial resistance has been shown to be the
presence of LPS in most gram negative bacteria (reference). The negatively charged highly polar LPS
symbolises a tenacious barrier which reduces permeability. This barrier protects the bacterial outer
membrane bilayer against hydrophobic compounds including, the entry of antibiotics into bacterial
cells (reference). There are very few drugs which target LPS pathways. LPS signifies one of the major
paramount obstacles to the innovation of gram negative

Sigma Chi Fraternity V. George Mason University
Harvey A. Silvergate stated in his article, Muzziling Free Speech , that Our entire Country is a free
speech zone, and that our campuses of higher education, of all places, cannot be an exception. Free
speech, in the form of hate speech, should be not regulated on American college campuses. Should
hate speech be discouraged? Of course! However, developing policies that limit hate speech runs the
risk of limiting an individual s ability to exercise free speech. The University of California System s
response to banning hate speech, speech codes in universities, law cases Doe v. University of
Michigan and Sigma Chi Fraternity v George Mason University, and the view points of law professor
Greg Margarian, proves why we should protect hate speech, even though it may seem wrong. In her
article, The Word Police , Michiko Kakutani said many gung ho advocates of politically correct

of Sigma Chi s free speech rights because it is unlawful to punish speech simply because it offended
someone. Agreeing with the fraternity, the court dismissed the punishment; after all, George Mason
University did not have a hate speech code to base their decision on. This case set a criterion for
universities, that in order to regulate hate speech, a code cannot punish protected speech, including
hate speech must be very definite about what is prohibited or punishable, and cannot base punishment

Kurt Vonnegut s Breakfast Of Champions
At different stages of his career, Kurt Vonnegut s writing has been categorized as science fiction,

Vonnegut s fiction, however an understanding that everyone gives artistic settings to his books and

was viewed as a sci fi essayist on the grounds that his initial two books were situated later on and

Vonnegut is regularly viewed as a trial or postmodern author. Although postmodern is hard to

Advocate Illinois Masonic has a rich history in how it became the hospital it is today. Before it was
called Illinois Masonic, it was Chicago Union Hospital. The Union Hospital was organized during the
time of rebuilding post the great Chicago fire in 1901. Belden Avenue Baptist Church Steadfast
Sunday School organized the union hospital. Amongst the board members of the hospital were some
Masons who formed an association for the purpose of providing free medical and surgical treatment
for master masons, members of the Eastern Star, and members of their families. In 1921 the Illinois
Masonic Hospital Association purchased Chicago Union Hospital.
Advocate Illinois Masonic is a 408 bed Level I trauma center teaching hospital. Although the hospital
isn t attached to a university, it plays host to 200 residents and 500 students. The HIM department rests
on the first floor and basement. The department has close to 40 employees. At this particular facility
the morgue is under HIM department, which is a new trend. The HIM department has ROI, Outpatient

The Implications Of Alexander The Great s Conquests In Greece
Alexander III of Macedon, typically referred to as Alexander the Great was born in Pella, in July 356
BC, as the son of Phillip II and Queen Olympia. He was under the tutelage of Aristotle until he
attained the age of 16. Following Phillip s assassination in 336 BC, Alexander inherited his father s
throne as the king of the Ancient Greek monarchy of Macedon. Moreover, the military training that he
had received during his tender age prepared him both physically and psychologically for the history he
was to write. He inherited the realm of a mighty kingdom and a vastly experienced army. Alexander
utilized the armory to extend the geographical scope of the Greek by conquering Persia, parts of India,
Egypt, present day Syria, Assyria Babylon and other parts of minor Asia. Therefore, this essay aims at
explaining how Alexander the Great s Conquest impacted the Greek people. Alexander the Great s
Conquests and their Implications Asia Minor Alexander s army passed the Hellespont in 334BC
comprising of an average of 48100 soldiers, 6200 cavalry and 120 ships. The count of the crew in the
ships amounted to 38000 people, all drawn from Macedon and other Greek states. Also, soldiers were
forcefully retrieved from Thrace, Illyria and Paionia. This way, the Greek were drawn into Alexander s
way of achieving his ambitions. The pursue o of his conquests was inspired by his love for Greece but

Case 4 Warehouse Clubs
Case 4: Competition among the North American Warehouse Clubs: Costco Wholesale vs. Sam s Clubs
vs. BJ s Wholesale 1. Competition in the North American wholesale club industry is mildly intense.
The players in the wholesale club industry try to achieve lower prices by reducing throughout the store
by using pallets or inexpensive shelving to display items. They also incur very low costs for store
decoration and light fixtures and a relatively low labor cost because of the use of fewer works and
employees to operate the facility. The importance of the five competitive forces among the industry is
high. Consequently, rivalry among competing sellers, buyers, and suppliers are the most important.

5. Five years from now, Costco s standing as the industry s leader is likely to be stronger. Because of
their functioning strategy and the management s understand of the company s overall vision will be
vital in Costco s success. Costco s most important clients are not their shareholders, but their members
and customers. Even in the midst of the shareholders opinions and the Wall Street criticisms, Costco
stays true to the commitment to their members. Costco s strategy of offering the lowest possible prices
to not only small businesses and such, but to individual households, will help them excel in this
industry. Sam s Club is the rival that is gaining strength, but still has not met the standards of Costco.
The issue with Sam s Club is they operate much like the supercenter, Wal Mart, which owns Sam s
Club. Their operation cost is high, as compared to Costco. Costco only keeps in stock a certain
amount of items and constantly change their items to keep customers coming back time after time to
gain the best possible bargain. 6. The recommendations I would make to Jim Sinegal regarding the
actions that Costco management needs to take to sustain the company s growth and improve its
financial performance would be to focus more on advertisement and marketing. Marketing and
advertising through media instead of depending on word of mouth, could result in a dramatic increase
in sales and knowledge of this wholesale club. Because of the low cost of running a

The Power Of Power In Kindred By Octavia Butler
As Boss Tweed used to say, The way to have power is to take it. Therefore, it is not surprising that the
characters of Kindred by Octavia Butler fight throughout the book to gain power from each other.
They all use methods ranging from violence to influence to gain even a slight amount of power from
each other. Even Alice and Dana who are enslaved women during the 1800 s are able to use their
words to influence their owners and the powerful white men in society. Like other black women
during this time period, they use their bodies and other unconventional methods to slowly gain power
over their owners until they are able to influence them to do what they want. Henceforth, Butler wants
to demonstrate to the reader that, even during the antebellum south, enslaved women were able to use
their influence, resilience and courage to eventually gain power over their owners. Alice ultimately
has the most power in the book. She might seem like the most powerless character because of her
ethnicity and gender, but her resilience and ability to influence others makes her the most omnipotent.
For instance, she was abused, threatened, and even raped by Rufus; but her constraint of giving him
the one thing that he wanted made her hold the power over him. It all started when Rufus raped Alice
for the first time and therefore was almost beaten to death by her fiance. Due to him being a slave
Alice and her fiance decided to just get away, (119) before Rufus woke up and got him killed but

The Pros And Cons Of The Korean War
The Korean War caught most in the international community off guard and happened only five years
after World War II had ended. It had been expected that the Soviets would test the West s will and
Korea had been listed as a possible battlefield. However, Berlin, Greece, Turkey, or Iran all seemed far
more vulnerable. The Korean War came as a shock to Turkey, as well. Besides negative impacts, the
Korean War presented the young Republic with several opportunities. Being a UN member and a

Trauma In Haiti Sociology
When compared to the living standards of people in so called first world countries such as the United
States of America or Australia, the trauma that the people of Haiti undergo in their everyday existence
should be universally recognised, and humanitarian intervention should not be an option but rather a
requirement. In an ethnography delving into the violence and trauma affecting the citizens of Haiti
(James, 2010), anthropologist Erica Caple James provides an in depth description of the suffering that
Haitians endure, as well as the consequences of their social, physical, and psychological oppression.

An alternative treatment to type 2 diabetes is insulin therapy since it is difficult to achieve desired
glucose levels due to increased spread of the disease. Transplantation of pancreas or replacement of
patient s islets of Langerhans is an ongoing treatment capable of achieving normoglycemia. However
the limitations of immunesupression and scarcity of donor pancreas make this procedure not very
desirable.
Stem cells therapy has been considerd as an alternative stratergy for replacement of damaged cells ,
example embryonic stem cells , bone marrow stem cells etc. Initially to cure type 1 diabetes , insulin
producing cells were created by transducing bone marrow stem cells with the pancreatic duodenal
homobox (Pdx1) gene. Although this experiment was successful in normalizing glucose levels in
streptozotocin induced diabetic mice, the low level of insulin production and the unlikeliness of
producing the culture conditions in vivo make this approach unfit for clinical applications. Moreover,
there was only a modest improvement in blood glucose levels by using experiments done by western

blood glucose levels to be able to beat the insulin therapy. A very efficient way to approach this
problem is using insulin secreting cells derived

the gossip that he was an illegitimate son of Klara Polzl and Jose Rizal when Rizal visited Linz in

heroes. Many inquired as to whether Andres Bonifacio s dowager, Gregoria de Jesus, was truly raped
by Colonel Agapito Bonzon when they were in imprisonment, or whether without a doubt General
Antonio Luna s better half truly was a presidential progenitor named Isidra Cojuangco. At whatever
point there is negative information around a hero, it is dependably seen as tattles paying little heed to

Exchange Student Essay
A good exchange student should possess many qualities, including respect, independence, and a true
interest in the other country s culture. I would consider myself to be a great exchange student because
I have these abilities and am able to adapt to new situations with ease. If an exchange student just
wants to travel to the exchange country because it is a vacation, they are completely missing the point
of this experience and consequently won t gain any benefit from it. Because of this point, I would
never invest my time and my parents money in something that I am not whole heartedly behind. So in
my opinion the most important quality an exchange student should possess is reverence for the target
countries culture, but that doesn t trump ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since this trip is international, personal interactions need to be a little more calculated until you are
more familiar with the cultural differences. A topic of discussion in the US could be completely taboo
in Germany, so before you make an interaction with a person you don t know in a certain country, you
should make sure you understand the do s and dont s of that country s culture. Once these cultural
differences are learned, you shouldn t be afraid of talking to people, because the best way to get
knowledge of the culture and life of Germans is to ask them yourself. Also it the host country would
be appreciative of you trying to learn their language, so speaking in german sometimes is also a good
way to interact. I have many values, the most important of which are; loyalty, open mindedness, and
passion. Loyalty is important to me, as it shows you who your real friends are in times of struggle.
Loyalty to someone isn t defined as always hanging out with them, it is defined as being there for
someone when they are at their worst, not just their best. When going through life it is important to
stay open minded because everyone leads a different life, and it is ignorant to always look at life
through one lense. When faced with new situations, I stay open minded because trying new things is
what makes life interesting and not one constant buzz. Lastly I admire passion as a value, as it
promotes success and adds excitement to life. For

Electronic Distribution And The Music Industry
Millions of Dollars are spent in the music industry everyday. Thousands of songs are being played
everyday in different parts of the world whether be on your phone, computer, TV, or radio. Behind
every song there is a lot of money, work and a marketing strategy. Strategies that have changed
throughout time because of the increasing advances in technology.
One of those technologies is the change of songs unto a digital format and online streaming against the
classical CD by CD sell and distributions technique. These changes created a huge change in the
music market. Are those changes in digital distributions and online streaming truly benefiting the
music industry and the Artists? Or is one swindling the other?
This leads us to another issue that affects the music companies and record labels which is the
copyright infractions occasioned by the new access to digital material. The illegal practice of copying
music and sharing it has caused many problems to the music industry and artist not only for the money
aspect on side of the record labels but also to the musicians who spend many hours composing to
create a master piece and then these are download for free and re distributed illegally by web sites and
apps such as LimeWire, Ares, BitTorrent, and many others.

The computers in the hide away. The vending machines in the kitchens.the showers in their coves?
Abandoned all the same and the cafeteria ,too
Unfrequented by all but nurses and doctors.
That night my ruminations wound me round many corners. Along dark windows .Crawling up
escalators. Beneath hall spanning bulletins of sick children grinning beside their nurses.
That s should to be you, I told myself.
In the hospital lobby, a pair of stained glass orca whales hung from the skylight. The whales wavered
in degrees. Two dimensional tales over eight floors of foyer. Creeping as if their cables could

And white doors and shiny windows and women in blue scrubs scrambling between nurses quadrants,

Men Who Were Sent to Alcatraz Essay
Alcatraz began in 1850 as a military prison. Later it became a federal prison. Then on the verge of 30
years it was closed. Then for a while Indians used the island. Alcatraz was used to house the criminals

Herman Melville s Bartleby The Scrivener
Wall Street is commonly regarded as a vicious battleground occupied by thousands of money hungry
individuals that wish to strike it big by climbing the corporate ladder by any means necessary. While
many win and many more lose everything as people try to succeed on Wall Street, Melville sees a
problem outside the bounds of losing and gaining money. Melville realized that an existential battle
was simultaneously taking place within the minds of these young people. In Herman Melville s
Bartleby, the Scrivener, Melville emits contempt for society and its corrupt values by creating
underdeveloped characters that lack typical characteristics of fully established individuals. With work,
money, profits, and productivity at the center of the universe, ... Show more content on

The symptoms of said illness include paleness, namelessness, and an impaired sense of right from
wrong. An incubator for lifelessness, Wall Street is capable of stripping away the elements of life that
give people a unique sense of color in their lives. One s name, family, and personal life are the first
things to go when one is infected with Wall Street s illness. The narrator has surpassed this phase and
reached the point in which his sense of conscience has begun to abandon him. Presumably, the next
phase involves the narrator losing all bodily color and physical sense of life. In Melville s eyes, Wall
Street takes a vibrant individual, infects them with the sole desire to make money, then proceeds to
strip them of the aspects that make them functional individuals in society. Through the detailed
description of Bartleby s actions and physical appearance as well as the narrator s lack of typical
personal attributes, Melville portrays his criticisms about the values fostered by Wall

first test ran was the Solubility Test, which was started by measuring 0.03g of the unknown substance.
Next, measure out 60ml of distilled H2O and mix with 0.03g of unknown. Use a stirring rod to the
substances were mixed together, and observations were made to see if the unknown dissolves. The use
of a ionic solubility chart was helpful when running this test.
The next test that was conducted in this lab was the Anion/Cation Test. Within the Cation/Anion test
the first experiment was done with the Ammonia Trial. Within this trial,1ml of 6M NaOH was needed
along with 0.03g of the unknown compound, and 1ml of distilled H2O. The Ammonia Trial will have
a chemical compound of NH4(X) + NaOH = NH3 + Na(X) + H2O, where X is the unknown anion.
The first step of this trial was to mix the measured unknown with the H2O. Once the compound has
dissolved, add the NaOH to the solution. By wafting over the solution determining if an ammonia
smell is present, if so the unknown compound will contain ammonium. The trial was repeated three
times and observations were recorded. The next Cation/Anion experiment that was conducted was the
Halide Trial. This trial was conducted by taking 0.03g of unknown compound and creating a solution
with 1ml of distilled H2O. Then, 1ml of 6M HNO3, and 1ml of 0.1M AgNO3 was added to the
solution, and observations were made towards if a white precipitate was formed.

Thomas Paine And Benjamin Franklin s Letter To Thomas Paine
In the pre Revolutionary period, there were many Enlightenment thinkers who were influenced by
revolutionary ideals. Two such revolutionaries were Thomas Paine and Benjamin Franklin. While
Thomas Paine was a stubborn and avid believer in new ideals and philosophies, Benjamin Franklin
was an older, more experienced politician who sought to appease most of the public. In Letter to
Thomas Paine , Benjamin Franklin tries to persuade Thomas Paine to not publish a religious
manuscript by building credibility through staying neutral, maintaining that credibility by praising
Paine and belittling others, and by invoking an emotional appeal of acceptance and trust as a friend. At
first, Benjamin Franklin establishes neutrality to build credibility so that Thomas Paine will believe
him. An instance of this is when Franklin states, I will not enter into any discussion of your principles,
though you may desire it (281). By excluding discussion of principles, Franklin does not criticize or
praise what Paine believes, thus staying neutral. This neutrality makes it so that Thomas Paine
understands that no third party and no other motives are involved in the letter. As with any other case
of direct, personal feedback with no other motives involved, Paine can trust Franklin more. Also,
when he moves on to his main purpose, Franklin uses as skillful transition of At present I shall only
give you my opinion (281). In this usage of transition, Franklin uses the word only to present

Jamestown Vs Plymouth Plantation Essay
The Jamestown and Plymouth Plantation were big acts to our history today. Both plantations were
similar and different in many ways. Jamestown was uniquely harsh, and I could somewhat say the
same about the Plymouth plantation as well. In a matter of fact, the Jamestown and Plymouth
plantation caused a ruckus in their towns/state, enough ruckus to maintain it s name and strength of
time. Starting with Jamestown, it was a scarce plantation. Sailors got what they called better paid due
to the ships staying for a longer. They weren t paid in money, but they were paid with bread, which
was a good item to sell, barter, and love etc. There was something established called the surprise
attack. This attack included Smith unexpectedly returning, the Spaniard greedily desiring gold, and
Smith gets shot in the thigh. Jamestown s plantation was violent, and deceiving. Leading to the
Plymouth Plantation, although the ships were very compact, they had an abundance of things
accomplished. There were a lot of sicknesses and cursing. They were very religious with their beliefs.
For example, they were against cursing, indecisive manners and such. Their sails were very calm and

Sol And Aquara Short Story
Sol and Luna lived high in the heavens in their shimmering thrones above Terro, the earth. One day
Luna had a baby. That baby s name was Aquara. She grew up in the heavens and slowly developed an

her devoted emotion.. As time went on Sol realized a problem. He knew that he needed to have a place
for beings to live. He couldn t put beings on Terro, for he was covered in Aquara s long draping navy
blue cloak. Sol knew that the only way was to split them apart. One day Sol reached down to Terro
and Aquara, and split them apart and placed them side by side. Terro understood and thanked Sol for
letting them still be close. Aquara on the other hand, was agonized. Sol placed all the animals down to
Terro. He nurtured and nourished them as Aquara sat in silence. Finally she broke down.
Anger and outrage struck her. Who is he to tell me what I can do?
Her body started shaking, her legs trembling, her eyes changed from a royal blue to a smoldering red.
With an ear piercing cry she shouted to the heavens. You will pay for this! you will pay!

Essay on Raj Patel s Stuffed and Starved
Raj Patel s Stuffed and Starved analyzes the paradoxical content in its title statement. Patel
demonstrates how the world food system has created two opposite, but inherently linked epidemics:
obesity and crippling hunger. Throughout the course of this book, it becomes painfully clear that the
majority of the world s population is being manipulated by our global food system and by the
corporations and their CEO s who control it. Patel encourages his readers to make themselves
politically responsible (313) and through Stuffed and Starved, highlights the discrepancies and major
imbalances of our world food system, the small percentage of people who benefit from it, and the vast
majority of humanity who does not. He does all this while ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Patel concludes that these systems favor the consumers rather than the producers. He uses Mexican
corn as an example. The price of corn in the Mexican market collapsed due to U.S imports. The U.S
corn farmers were significantly subsidized by their government, and the poor Mexican farmers had no
way to compete. Patel accuses America of using its economic and political power to strong arm
Mexico and other countries under the guise of free trade agreements. With all of the evidence Patel
presents on this topic, any reader would have a difficult time disagreeing with this assertion. Patel
makes food out to be a bargaining chip, a good that can be used to control nations and suppress
rebellions. He may not be so far off the mark. Food was used in U.S negotiations during the 1950 s
and 60 s. Nations that were susceptible to Communism were manipulated into becoming dependent on
the U.S market. America is not the only superpower that Patel takes aim at however. Britain used its
influence to control the grain trade, encouraging India and others to sell their wheat stocks. This
brought famine back to Asia, but provided cheap food for its factory workers and suppressed rebellion
at home. The food system has been increasingly used as a weapon to control weaker nations, to keep
people down, and to line the pockets of those who control it. Patel discussed companies like Monsanto
and Altria who were able to buy governmental goodwill

The Global Perception of Beauty

but magnified under the weight of social scrutiny and the self esteem of millions of women, the
significance is undeniable. The depiction of women through popular mass media outlets has a
tremendous influence upon global beauty culture, social construction and the personal self esteem of

Americanization also works to assimilate the rest of the world to perceive our standard of living
superior, but attainable. Just as foreign nations are encouraged to adopt a capitalistic approach in their
markets, foreign women are encouraged to adopt our definition of beauty. While American women
struggle to maintain a desired weight, foreign women struggle to exhibit American qualities (Derenne,
M.D., and Beresin, M.D.). Cosmo Magazine is an example of this trend exemplifying the fun, fearless
female around the world (see figure 4). Sold in 100 countries, in 34 languages, while reaching 60
million viewers; Cosmo has been described as a bible to beauty for its readers (see figure 5). Women
in India look to emulate the faces they see on the cover on Cosmo Magazine, as a result skin lightener
has emerged as one of the most produced cosmetic supplements, while struggling domestically. A vast
majority of the female population in India wishes to be two shades lighter, on average (see figure 3).
Foreign adaption and assimilation is a difficult process for American corporations to achieve,
worldwide, but a steady flow of consistent brand image and a unification of appeals allow for the
exploitation of social stigmas (Ssenyonga). Corporations confirm these stereotypes around the world,
at the expense of the individual self esteem of women; domestically and internationally. With a

  • 2. Loyalty Program Trends Within Retail Loyalty Program Trends in Retail A loyalty program is a reward based program that is offered by a company to their customers who make purchases frequently. Loyalty programs have been known to gain customers more coupons, exclusive access to certain sales, free promotions, and much more. Many different organizations and stores have created different types of loyalty programs for their customers over the years. These programs are important to prospective customers in gaining their loyalty so that they may shop at their store as opposed to another local competitor. Having various stores with these programs is also beneficial to the customer because stores are constantly competing against each other. Stores over the years, especially during holiday seasons, are always trying to outdo their competitors to get you the lowest price possible and them the most sales. Many stores have now introduced price match where you can bring in a local competitor s ad and they will honor the same price in their store. This is a great way to bring in customers because the price is no problem if it is easily adjusted. Stores that you go to every day such as Target, Walmart, Kmart, BestBuy and Toys R Us all offer price match all year round. Typically with most of these stores, there is a 14 day policy that you have to bring in another competitor s ad to get that price adjusted to the lowest price. This gives shoppers the ... French And Indian War, Tea Act, And The Boston Tea Party Did you know the word independence never appears in the Declaration of Independence, rather, it s titled The unanimous Declaration of the thirteen united States of America. ? The American Revolution ended two centuries of British rule for most of the North American colonies and created the modern United States of America. Many key events including the French and Indian War, the Tea Act, and the Boston Tea Party all contributed to the independence of America. To start off, The French and Indian War, also known as the Seven Years War, was a key event in the American Revolution. The French and Indian War was a conflict between Great Britain and France. The French and Indian War began in 1754 and ended with the Treaty of Paris in 1763. The results of the war ended French political and cultural influence in North America. England gained a large amount of land and strongly grasped its hold on the continent. On the other hand, the war created tension between the English and the Native Americans. This war created an unpleasant relationship between England and its colonies. For example, the amount of taxes put into the colonists hands from war debt. Therefore, the French and Indian War was beneficial to the American Revolution. ... Also, the colonists had to buy the tea from the British, and nowhere else. The act was putting a tax on tea sold by companies other than the East India Company. Behavior Therapy and the Changes in the Field of Psychology Roderick J. Smith Columbia College Abstract Behavior therapy is a clinical approach that can be used to treat a variety of disorders, in various types of settings, and with a wide range of special population groups. A number of disorders have been successfully treated by using this approach. The popularity of psychotropic drugs is contributing to the growing risk of prescription drug addiction. This paper will discuss some of the specific contributions of behavior therapy as well as some of the problem areas where this approach is particularly effective and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most people would rather learn how to cope with certain issues on their own. Behavior therapy is pretty effective in teaching people how to cope with some of life s common problems. Some selected problem areas that behavior therapy is particularly effective in is anxiety disorders, depression, substance abuse, eating disorders, domestic violence, sexual deviance, pain management, and hypertension (Corey, 2005, p. 228). The therapy sessions are well defined and procedural. Both the therapist and the client have clearly defined roles, and the importance of client awareness and participation in the therapeutic process is stressed. The therapist teaches concrete skills to the client utilizing instruction, modeling, and performance feedback (Corey, 2005, p. 235). According to the text, the client engages in rehearsal with feedback until skills are well learned. The client also often receives homework assignments to complete between therapy sessions (Corey, 2005, p. 235). In order for therapy to be successful, the client must be fully cooperative and motivated to change and fully carry out therapeutic activities. If the clients are not involved in this way, then chances are slim that therapy will be successful (Corey, 2005, p. 235). References Corey, G. (2005). • 5. Sandwich Bikes In the world of home exercise equipment, few pieces have been around as long as the exercise bike. Although exercise bikes (fitness bikes, studio bikes) received a bad rap for a number of years, being used as clothes hangers, etc., the new versions are sleek, silent, and easy to use. There are two basic types of bikes, the upright and the recumbent. An upright is what most people think of when they think of fitness bikes. The upright is closest to a regular bike, narrow saddle, pedals below the rider, handle bars out front. On the other hand, a recumbent exercise bike has a wider seat with a small back support. The pedals are out front, and the rider is in a reclined position. Both bikes have good and bad points as we shall see. The traditional setup of an upright bike allows the rider to more closely simulate an actual bike ride than possible with a recumbent. The rider is able to stand, assume a race crouch, or a neutral position. Trouble is, if the rider has any sort of back problems, especially lower back, an upright can irritate the condition leading to worse problems. An upright is more difficult to get on and off of because of a higher proximity to the ground. This can be problematic for older or overweight people. An upright takes up less room than a recumbent. You may want to keep this in mind if your exercise area is on the small side. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We all share the same qualities and feelings; those of loneliness, jealousy, abandonment, pain, and anger. Throughout all of literature it seems as though the antagonist beholds these particular characteristics which typically leads to the conflict. In the epic poem Beowulf, Grendel, the antagonist of this story, can be described using these characteristics. What the reader fails to recognize is although Grendel is suppose to be a monster he really is more human than one realizes. This is a relatively common behaviour that is little understood. This essay provides an overview of the nature and extent of those most at risk of self harm, including causes and risk factors. Examining some of the stereotyping that surrounds self harm, and looking at ways in which self harm can be prevented. A useful definition of self harm is from Professor Keith Hawton (Hawton et al., 2006. p29). Further studies confirmed that the more severe, more prolonged, or a longer duration of sexual abuse was associated with an increased risk of engaging in self harm as an adult. Marginalization may also be the explanation for the high risk of self harm in gay, bisexual, transsexual teenagers who are 2 to 3 times more likely to self harm than heterosexual young people, this groups results in regular absenteeism at school due to homophobic harassment. 50% of those reported bullied at school had contemplated self harm, 40% of those had self harmed at least once. • 8. A Study On The Hydrophobic Anchor Which Holds The... The hydrophobic anchor which holds the Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) of gram negative bacteria in the outer leaflet of the outer membrane is Lipid A. This component is produced within the bacterial cell cytoplasm through the Lpx biosynthetic pathway (reference). Lipid A is then transported to the outer membrane (OM) via the Lpt biosynthetic pathway (reference). Lipid A is highly conserved, essential for virulence and bacterial viability. These qualities make it an attractive drug target which could aid in the development of inhibitors of gram negative bacteria. A recent study of the Lpx pathway has resulted in the identification of a key potential rate limiting enzyme (reference). That enzyme is tetraacyldisaccharide 1 phosphate 4 kinase ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In conclusion, LpxK was purified and the results of this experiment produced an insight into the complexity of LpxK purification. INTRODUCTION Antibiotics are developed for the treatment of bacterial infections due to their effective clinical properties (Appendix Fig. 2). They are extensively utilized for the inhibition of bacterial; DNA, RNA, proteins and cell wall synthesis (reference). However, the efficiency of treating bacterial infections has vastly deteriorated because of the ongoing emergence of multi drug resistant pathogens (Appendix Fig. 3 Table 1 8) (reference). The prolonged use and misuse of antibiotics have resulted in the evolution of bacteria attaining mechanisms which, prevent antibiotics from binding to their molecular targets (Appendix Fig. 4) (reference). Additionally, antibiotic resistance occurs in both gram negative and gram positive bacteria. An important aspect of antimicrobial resistance has been shown to be the presence of LPS in most gram negative bacteria (reference). The negatively charged highly polar LPS symbolises a tenacious barrier which reduces permeability. This barrier protects the bacterial outer membrane bilayer against hydrophobic compounds including, the entry of antibiotics into bacterial cells (reference). There are very few drugs which target LPS pathways. LPS signifies one of the major paramount obstacles to the innovation of gram negative ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Sigma Chi Fraternity V. George Mason University Harvey A. Silvergate stated in his article, Muzziling Free Speech , that Our entire Country is a free speech zone, and that our campuses of higher education, of all places, cannot be an exception. Free speech, in the form of hate speech, should be not regulated on American college campuses. Should hate speech be discouraged? Of course! However, developing policies that limit hate speech runs the risk of limiting an individual s ability to exercise free speech. The University of California System s response to banning hate speech, speech codes in universities, law cases Doe v. University of Michigan and Sigma Chi Fraternity v George Mason University, and the view points of law professor Greg Margarian, proves why we should protect hate speech, even though it may seem wrong. Agreeing with the fraternity, the court dismissed the punishment; after all, George Mason University did not have a hate speech code to base their decision on. Even in the midst of the shareholders opinions and the Wall Street criticisms, Costco stays true to the commitment to their members. Costco s strategy of offering the lowest possible prices to not only small businesses and such, but to individual households, will help them excel in this industry. Sam s Club is the rival that is gaining strength, but still has not met the standards of Costco. The issue with Sam s Club is they operate much like the supercenter, Wal Mart, which owns Sam s Club. Costco only keeps in stock a certain amount of items and constantly change their items to keep customers coming back time after time to gain the best possible bargain. 6. The recommendations I would make to Jim Sinegal regarding the actions that Costco management needs to take to sustain the company s growth and improve its financial performance would be to focus more on advertisement and marketing. Marketing and advertising through media instead of depending on word of mouth, could result in a dramatic increase in sales and knowledge of this wholesale club. Therefore, it is not surprising that the characters of Kindred by Octavia Butler fight throughout the book to gain power from each other. They all use methods ranging from violence to influence to gain even a slight amount of power from each other. Even Alice and Dana who are enslaved women during the 1800 s are able to use their words to influence their owners and the powerful white men in society. Like other black women during this time period, they use their bodies and other unconventional methods to slowly gain power over their owners until they are able to influence them to do what they want. Henceforth, Butler wants to demonstrate to the reader that, even during the antebellum south, enslaved women were able to use their influence, resilience and courage to eventually gain power over their owners. Alice ultimately has the most power in the book. She might seem like the most powerless character because of her ethnicity and gender, but her resilience and ability to influence others makes her the most omnipotent. For instance, she was abused, threatened, and even raped by Rufus; but her constraint of giving him the one thing that he wanted made her hold the power over him. It all started when Rufus raped Alice for the first time and therefore was almost beaten to death by her fiance. Due to him being a slave Alice and her fiance decided to just get away, (119) before Rufus woke up and got him killed but ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Two such revolutionaries were Thomas Paine and Benjamin Franklin. While Thomas Paine was a stubborn and avid believer in new ideals and philosophies, Benjamin Franklin was an older, more experienced politician who sought to appease most of the public. In Letter to Thomas Paine , Benjamin Franklin tries to persuade Thomas Paine to not publish a religious manuscript by building credibility through staying neutral, maintaining that credibility by praising Paine and belittling others, and by invoking an emotional appeal of acceptance and trust as a friend. At first, Benjamin Franklin establishes neutrality to build credibility so that Thomas Paine will believe him. An instance of this is when Franklin states, I will not enter into any discussion of your principles, though you may desire it (281). By excluding discussion of principles, Franklin does not criticize or praise what Paine believes, thus staying neutral. Jamestown was uniquely harsh, and I could somewhat say the same about the Plymouth plantation as well. In a matter of fact, the Jamestown and Plymouth plantation caused a ruckus in their towns/state, enough ruckus to maintain it s name and strength of time. Starting with Jamestown, it was a scarce plantation. Sailors got what they called better paid due to the ships staying for a longer. They weren t paid in money, but they were paid with bread, which was a good item to sell, barter, and love etc. There was something established called the surprise attack. • 38. Essay on Raj Patel s Stuffed and Starved Raj Patel s Stuffed and Starved analyzes the paradoxical content in its title statement. Patel demonstrates how the world food system has created two opposite, but inherently linked epidemics: obesity and crippling hunger. Throughout the course of this book, it becomes painfully clear that the majority of the world s population is being manipulated by our global food system and by the corporations and their CEO s who control it. Patel encourages his readers to make themselves politically responsible (313) and through Stuffed and Starved, highlights the discrepancies and major imbalances of our world food system, the small percentage of people who benefit from it, and the vast majority of humanity who does not. He does all this while ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Patel concludes that these systems favor the consumers rather than the producers. He uses Mexican corn as an example. The price of corn in the Mexican market collapsed due to U.S imports. The U.S corn farmers were significantly subsidized by their government, and the poor Mexican farmers had no way to compete. Patel accuses America of using its economic and political power to strong arm Mexico and other countries under the guise of free trade agreements. With all of the evidence Patel presents on this topic, any reader would have a difficult time disagreeing with this assertion. Patel makes food out to be a bargaining chip, a good that can be used to control nations and suppress rebellions. He may not be so far off the mark. Food was used in U.S negotiations during the 1950 s and 60 s. Nations that were susceptible to Communism were manipulated into becoming dependent on the U.S market. America is not the only superpower that Patel takes aim at however. Britain used its influence to control the grain trade, encouraging India and others to sell their wheat stocks. This brought famine back to Asia, but provided cheap food for its factory workers and suppressed rebellion at home. The food system has been increasingly used as a weapon to control weaker nations, to keep people down, and to line the pockets of those who control it. Patel discussed companies like Monsanto and Altria who were able to buy governmental goodwill ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. The Global Perception of Beauty Their faces are scattered across our billboards, their flawless figures mesmerize us at halftime of the Superbowl; but at what cost? To the naked eye, the impact of cosmetic advertisement cannot be seen, but magnified under the weight of social scrutiny and the self esteem of millions of women, the significance is undeniable. The depiction of women through popular mass media outlets has a tremendous influence upon global beauty culture, social construction and the personal self esteem of individual women, worldwide. Society s dependence upon media constructs our perception of reality on a daily basis, transforming the beauty culture on an international level, while the cosmetic industry profits. On a global scale, only 2% of women ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Americanization also works to assimilate the rest of the world to perceive our standard of living superior, but attainable. Just as foreign nations are encouraged to adopt a capitalistic approach in their markets, foreign women are encouraged to adopt our definition of beauty. While American women struggle to maintain a desired weight, foreign women struggle to exhibit American qualities (Derenne, M.D., and Beresin, M.D.). Cosmo Magazine is an example of this trend exemplifying the fun, fearless female around the world (see figure 4). Sold in 100 countries, in 34 languages, while reaching 60 million viewers; Cosmo has been described as a bible to beauty for its readers (see figure 5). Women in India look to emulate the faces they see on the cover on Cosmo Magazine, as a result skin lightener has emerged as one of the most produced cosmetic supplements, while struggling domestically. A vast majority of the female population in India wishes to be two shades lighter, on average (see figure 3). Foreign adaption and assimilation is a difficult process for American corporations to achieve, worldwide, but a steady flow of consistent brand image and a unification of appeals allow for the exploitation of social stigmas (Ssenyonga). Corporations confirm these stereotypes around the world, at the expense of the individual self esteem of women; domestically and internationally. With a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
