The Character Of Francis Macomber, By William Hemingway
As is the typical story arch, characters undergo change throughout the story. One of the most
vivid transformations is that of Francis Macomber, the protagonist. Francis is a very wealthy
man, who was considered to be quite handsome. At 35, he has the appearance of someone held
in high regard. However, everyone knows Francis as the coward that he is. Not only does
everyone else know, but even Francis himself realizes this problem. Hemingway writes, But
more than shame he felt cold, hollow fear in him. The fear was still there like a cold slimy
hollow in all the emptiness where once his confidence had been and it made him feel sick. (7).
This depiction of Francis shows the hollow shell of a person he has become. He is not contempt
with being this way and undertakes various steps to exit his shell, but for the majority of the
story, and, moreover, his life, he is in this shadow of grief and despair. This quote uses
personification of the fear to really emphasises the impact that his cowardly ways have on his
life. Francis main approach to making himself a more whole person is by completing a hunt the
right way. After slaying the buffalo, Francis felt vindicated of his fearful ways. Not even a minute
later, he was dead, killed by his own wife. Francis Macomber lay now, face down, not two yards
from where the buffalo lay on his side and his wife knelt over him with Wilson beside her. (24).
This quote symbolizes the end of Francis Macomber, but in a good way. He died happy

8. [LO 1] Can a partnership have unrealized receivables if it has no accounts receivable? Answer:
The definition of unrealized receivables is broad enough to encompass assets other than
accounts receivable. В§751(a) also includes assets that are NOT capital assets or В§1231 assets
that would produce ordinary income if sold by the partnership. Items such as depreciation
recapture are also classified as unrealized receivables. Thus, a partnership can have unrealized
receivables without having accounts receivable. 9. [LO 1] How do hot assets affect the
character of gain or loss on the sale of a partnership interest? Answer: Hot assets cause a portion
of the gain or loss on the sale of a partnership interest to be classified as ordinary rather than
capital. 10. [LO 1] Under what circumstances can a partner recognize both gain and loss on the
sale of a partnership interest? Answer: A partner may recognize both gain and loss on the sale of a
partnership interest in the situation where a partner s share of the unrealized gain in hot assets is
greater than his total gain or loss on the sale of his partnership interest. 11. [LO 1] Absent any
special elections, what effect does a sale of partnership interest have on the partnership? Answer:
When one partner sells his partnership interest, the sale

The Anzacs And The Development Of Nationalism In Australia...
The ANZACs were a significant influence in the development of nationalism in Australia during
World War One (WWI). Throughout WWI, Australian formed the fundamentals of the now
universally recognised Australian identity. The ANZACs played a crucial role in the establishment
of a mixture of both cultural and triumphal nationalism as Australias exposure to other cultures
during WWI saw them no longer recognised as an extension of Britain but an independent group of
competent men and women that could equal their Commonwealth forefathers in the war effort.
Thus, forming a distinct identity and sense of nationalism that s significance, decades after WWI,
remained strongly associated with the WWI ANZACs.
Nationalism is seen to have two origins. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The poem On the landing of Our Troops at Gallipoli by Joan Torrace, composed after the end
WWI, demonstrated a sense of nationalism when reflecting upon Australia equalling its forefather
in the war effort: Australia! ... all nations hail thee now . The poem depicts the British and
Australia flags both of equal size and focus. The poem states: hoist the ... union Jack ... and let the
Southern Flag wave gaily side by side. This poem show the authors connection between the events
of WWI and seeing Australia as an equivalent individual to Britain supporting the impact on WWI
on Australia s nationalism. A photograph depicts the Queen among her family commemorating the
50th anniversary of the Gallipoli landing in the ANZAC parade demonstrating the British leaders
respect for Australia fuelled by the devotion of ANZACs in WWI. Finally, nationalism is still
minutely evident in modern society on cultural outlets. The popular song, We Didn t Start The Fire
by Billy Joel devotes a sizeable proportion of lyrics to American achievements, successful
sportsmen, political leaders and references to mores negative events of other countries. For
example the song mentions America s first women in space: sally ride, the American discovery of
the polio vaccine and the violent and devastating separation of north and South Korea.

Capulet In Romeo And Juliet
Similar to a parasite, Juliet, the daughter of Capulet and Lady Capulet in the play Romeo and
Juliet by William Shakespeare, is a character who is very dependent and doesn t formulate her own
opinion. So, throughout the course of the story, Juliet develops her own thoughts and continuously
becomes more independent according to the experiences she faces, consisting of disobeying her
parents, falling deeply in love with Romeo and finally accomplishing her liberty. William
Shakespeare has created Juliet by interpreting her as a character who has transferred from a
dependent person to an independent person. For instance, while Juliet was asking the nurse about
the fight between Romeo and Tybalt, Juliet says, What storm is this that blows so contrary?... Show

For example, on the Balcony scene, when Romeo encountered Juliet, Juliet exclaimed, O
Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo? / Deny thy father and refuse thy name, / Or, if thou
wilt not, be but sworn my love, / And I ll no longer be a Capulet (2.2.36 39). This showcases that
Juliet truly loves Romeo, meaning she regrets that Romeo is a Montague and that she is a
Capulet. The division between their families produces a lot of issues for them because the
Capulet and the Montagues have massacred themselves continuously. Shakespeare uses
connotation by deeply showing that Juliet essentially asks Romeo, why he is a Montague? Juliet
asks Romeo to object his last name, so they could have a peaceful relationship, not separated by
violence. In addition to this, when Juliet went to consult Friar Lawrence concerning the
marriage with Count Paris, she said, O, bid me leap, rather than marry Paris, / From off the
battlements of any tower, / Or walk in thievish ways, or bid me lurk / Where serpents are. Chain
me with roaring bears, / Or hide me nightly in a charnel house (4.1.78 81). This demonstrates that
Juliet prefers to die than to marry Count Paris. She is essentially saying that she ll do anything not
to marry Paris. She also says that she prefers to live with the corrupt and the unfair people. In
conclusion, this symbolizes that Juliet s love for Romeo has transferred to a very deep level, thus,
demonstrating a change in Juliet s behavior, so, this portrays a dynamic

Zoos
I love animals. They are special creatures, we get the honor of sharing this wonderful planet with.
What if I told you our zoos aren t doing their jobs of providing and caring for the animals. Zoos
have been around for a very long time, early zoos were organized by taxonomy. In our modern
world over 100 million people visit zoos worldwide. As these facts show, zoos have thrived in our
world for a long time. At what cost for the animalsthough? Most of the animals in zoos aren t even
endangered. Zoos are great but need to improve. We need to focus on these things that need to be
improved in our zoos.
In 2016, most people knew of the gorilla Harambe. A young boyfell into his enclosure, Harambe
was then put down in order to save the boys life. This means we need to work hard to keep zoos
safe. Jason Lukasik, from Is it Time to Break with the Colonial Legacy of Zoos, states A young
boy falls into the moat and our ordering of animals breaks down. What this quote shows is how
our zoos are faulty. Even though we may have thought our zoos to be safe, a little boy managed to
fall into the gorillas enclosure. We then go into a state of panic. Who is to pay the price? The
gorilla Harambe, who us humans put there. Animals are beautiful, majestic creatures. We put them
in zoos to educate, or save a species. What will happen if another young child or ... Show more

out ways to support your local zoos. If not people may come to the conclusion that zoos should
no longer be around. Most would agree that we all love animals, so why not help zoos reach a
good financial level, take better care of the animals, make zoos safer and also make larger almost
sanctuary like enclosures. By doing these things, not only will this improve zoos themselves but
also make the animals more at ease and comfortable. Which should be our number one priority

Communication Is A Form Of Symmetrical Communication
Communication can come in various forms. A person can write, speak, or even use American Sign
Language to communicate. Within communication itself, there are various styles used and ways to
receive feedback. To name a couple, two way asymmetrical and two way symmetrical
communication are two well know forms in regards to Public Relations. Asymmetrical
Communication happens when professionals seek to pursue their publics into changing their
opinions about certain things. However, this attempt is usually unequal, given that professionals
use research to help them persuade their publics. Symmetrical Communication on the other hand
has a form of balance to it and can lead publics to change their attitudes on their own.
I think that blogging is a form of symmetrical communication. Although it may seem unusual, this is
an actual form of communication. A person (both professional and non professional) is able to
publish their opinion about something and publics are able to read and/or respond by commenting.
Usually blog posts get overlooked. There are probably a million posts that have been published,
but no one has read. However, well known bloggers or blog sites, like Perez Hilton, TMZ,
Mashable, and my personal favorite, The Shade room are all somewhat reliable sources. Many of
these are digital media. These are people and/or their sites that receive a ton of feedback from their
blog posts. The Shade Room in particular usually posts updates and breaking news on celebrities,

Why I Am My Writing
While I believed my writing to be concise, yet thorough in the beginning of the semester, it
became clear to me that that was not the case. When entering EN3414, I had no knowledge of
critical theories or how to use secondary sources to enhance my argument instead of carry it. I
believed my heavy sentence phrasing to be an asset instead of a way to bury my argument beneath
long thoughts. In EN3414, I was able to focus on taking my papers straight to my argument, to
avoid useless sources or let them lead the paperinstead of letting my argument carry the essay.
And because I have learned to revise and rewrite my papers as many times as possible before they
are due, I can no acknowledge the parts of my essay that are too heavy or that need to be
expanded upon. As I finish this course I feel my writingis clear and concise, stating an idea and
following that argument throughout the paper. Before taking Critical Writing and Research
Literary Studies, my writing, while rather average, was enough to enable success in composition
and survey courses; however, it was not advanced enough for this class. The writings for
composition or survey classes were organized, but lacked a depth or clear argument. While the
topics would be clear and covered, there would be little to no in depth analysis and more of a
skimming above the surface. Even in longer papers, the depth of my argument was never really
deep enough, and while it was enough for the beginning courses, it clearly became a

Interpretation of Muir s Horses Essay
Interpretation of Muir s Horses
My interpretation of Edwin Muir s poem entitled Horses is one of a past memory and the
conflict and anger brought about by this memory , a conflict between light and darkness, good
and evil in the mind of a elderly dying man, fearing death as he gazes out across a field. The
memory being that of a day from his past, where he as a child farm worker watched a team of
horses ploughing the stubble back into the field during a rainy day which gets progressively more
stormy. The horses making their way to and fro across the field leaving furrows, the setting sunlight
breaking through the clouds picking out images in the distance. Images getting darker and more
vivid as the horses drew nearer. A... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The poem is in the form of a four line verse with an almost constant AA BB rhyme. The line
lengths are constant but some lines do run on into the next. The rhythm of the poem begins with a
slow pace, this is suggested by the word lumbering in line 1, then the piece begins to slowly pick
up the tempo at line 13. This tempo to me then builds with each successive line until a climax is
reached with line 24. The poet then purposely puts the brakes on the tempo by using repetition of
the word fade line 25, after which the tempo is the same as at the beginning. The religious theme
to this poem is made by the use of similes and metaphors in the horses descriptions. An example
being their comparison to seraphims of gold (line 11), seraphim s of course being an order of
angels. Another being the use the word bossy (line 15), a reference perhaps to the carved
wooden bosses found high in the vaulting of Gothic Church ceilings. He sets a creepy mood to
the piece by the process of alliteration using the letter m (line 12) to lower the tempo and tone
prior to the fourth verse. It is here when the tempo begins to gain momentum, another piece of
alliteration is used in the form of the expression broad breasted (line 14), which instills the idea
that these creatures are big and so should make a larger impact to us as they overpower the sinking
sun. From now on the horses are taking on more and more almost mythological properties, glowing
with mysterious fire (line 19), and

The Pros And Cons Of The Kosovo War
Lately, globalization has created tendency including governance. Thereby, many states have
authorized international institution to intervene and mediate conflicts between global sides so as
to preserve human rights and protect innocent people. However, we occasionally notice that it is
not always the case as it was pretended to be. For instance, it is possible and true that such
organizations can fail to protect human life, even on purpose. United Nation Security Council is
entitled to maintain human rights in the global scale and thus it must intervene into conflicts which
comprise threat to innocent civil people. Nevertheless, the circumstance of the Kosovowar allows us

Death of majority of population indicates direct impact of the war in Kosovo that witnessed. The

Martinsen, various interviews from people who witnessed the war are demonstrated, and while
reading these interviews, people become sad and shocked. For instance, it is shown that some
children were murdered in front of the mothers eyes which resulted with mental diseases on them
(Martinsen 2010, 43). Despite the fact that all these happened and were clearly demonstrated to

allowing the war to happen. In contrast, these people go along with the idea that the adverse

addition dogs bark at any and everything, not to mention the possibility of me stepping in dog

The Impact of Memory on Voting Behaviors
The Impact of Memory on Voting Behaviors
In The Determinants and Consequences of Recall Error about Gulf War Preferences , Mark Joslyn
examines the effects of outside influences on the opinions of voters. Specifically, Joslyn explores
errors in autobiographical memories of opinions of the government s involvement in the Gulf War
and studies the change of opinions of individuals pre and post war. Memories are an important
factor when making political decisions. It is necessary to study these memories to help political
researchers anticipate the way voters may vote in upcoming elections. Joslyn investigated
various data to determine whether: 1) outside influences used to reconstruct a person s memory
in a way that alters their opinion regarding an issue; and 2) the support of the government of the
issue can change a person s opinion. Similar research had been performed by such authors as
Shanto Iyengar and Adam Simon, but they did not address the issue of why the percentage of
people opposed to the Gulf War prior to the war decreased sharply when the same people were
interviewed after the war (Joslyn, 2003, p. 442). Joslyn examined the opinions of the public before
and after the Gulf War to determined how the outside influences effected the voting behaviors of
that group. A survey conducted by the American National Election Studies (ANES) found that
people rely on the popular opinions that they see in the media as opposed to recalling their own

The Right to Die
Analysis The right to die has been brought to the media and public spotlight through the cases of
Karen Ann Quinlan, Cruzan v. Missouri, and Vacco v. Quill. This issue has been the topic of
heated debate for years in the religious, scientific, and political community. This is because this
topic ties into many communities and effects a large amount of people. These cases brought the
right to diedebate to the religious community. The reason for this is from the use of life support
which many believe should not be used at all because people should die naturally as they believe
god intended. This belief also ties into the matter of physician assisted suicide brought up in the
Vacco v. Quill case, one should not be given a lethal dose of drugs and should die naturally. The
publics opinion on the right to die has a drastic range, due to the fact this matter spans all groups of
people. A popular opinion from the public is that the government has no right to decide whether
someone can or cannot end their lives, pertaining to the case of Vacco v. Quill and euthanasia
. This
statement is a very true one, why should the government be involved in the death of a free person?
This may be the case for euthanasia, but there is another factor in the right to die debate. That other
factor is removing one from life support. This issue is brought up in both the case of Karen Ann
Quinlanand in the case of Cruzan v. Missouri. It is illegal to remove a patient from life support
without

great loss of life on both sides and neither side gaining or losing territory, the war ended ().
However, this did not stop Iraq from attacking Kuwait a few years later (). After this war ended
abruptly, the Iraqi military still possessed a wide range of sophisticated air defense systems from
various countries such as Russia and China. Despite the numerous components of the integrated
air defense systems, its actual operating capabilities were quite limited. The system was designed
to counter comparatively limited threats from a Western air campaign (). Currently, Iraq s air
defense capabilities are being bolstered by Russian state of the art close range air defense
complexes and multiple launch heavy flame blast systems () to help eliminate the countries
newest threat, which are calling themselves the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria also known as ISIS
(). The threat of the hybrid jihadist group, ISIS, has diminished the advancements of Iraq s current
military strength. Its strategy for survival and growth blends military, political, social, and
economic components (). In June 2014, the once proud Iraqi army simply collapsed and failed to
defend the country s second largest city, Mosul, from approximately 1200 ISIS

Our countries motives are not completely justified.
Motives
The plan to launch cyber warfare on the Iranians began after a negotiation took place between the
Europeans and The United States. This was due to Iran s plan to continue their production of
uranium. Iran resumes uranium enrichment at Natanz after negotiations with European and
American officials flounder. (Gates, 2012). Our nations armed forces, CIA, and NSA worked
together to create a classified cyber attack to be launched on Iran s nuclear enrichment program
(Gates, 2012). The United States fear of nuclear weapons from Iran was the only motive for the
cyber attack, and was continued once President Obama came into office.
This attack was specifically intended to slow down the productions of their Nuclear Power Facility.
Cripple Iran enough to buy the United States more peace . Unfornatetly STUXNET is more
powerful then intended and many areas outside of Natanz were hit. Subsequently following the
attack on Iran, it was stated that 1,000 IR 1 centrifuges
(Shekaraubi, 2014) that were needed to develop uranium at the Iranian Natanz facility was impaired
throughout the breach. This would include but is not restricted to 30,000 IP addresses in Iran,
several manufacturing sites in Hormuzgan and the control system of Kharg Island which handles
the vast majority of Iran s crude oil exports. (Shekaraubi, 2014).

An Example Of A Nonmaterial Culture In The United States
Nonmaterial culture is defined as the aggregate of values, mores, norms, etc., of a society; the
ideational structure of a culture that provides the values and meanings by which it functions. An
example of this would be religion. Religion although a belief by many throughout the world is
considered nonmaterial. This is someone that worships a Godor Gods or even like the Indians
believing in visions after smoking peyote. Is this truly something that would happen or just
something that was believed to have happened because one of their elderly told them that he/she
seen a vision. Does this come from the many stories that they were told as children and when they
did smoke peyote they believed in it so much they thought they seen visions. This... Show more

An example of this is that in the United States we find it alright to ask someone to come to us by
pointing our finger and curling it toward us. In Japan they find it offensive to signal someone to
come to them in this manner. Something as simple as a hug for which we do quite often in the
US can be considered offensive in foreign countries. Weird right? Wow, I could get into a lot of
trouble in countries like this because I am a hugger. When seeing friends out and about we tend
to hug each other as a gesture of missing each other or love for one another. I never knew this
because I have friends from these countries that would find it offensive, maybe they have
become Americanized . Putting your hands in your pocket as many of us have done many,
many, many times, this is found to be rude in several countries. I guess Alanis Morsette would
be in trouble also (her song Hand in My Pocket HAHAHA). I can honestly say that I would also
be considered rude because I have a bad habit of placing my hand or hands in my pocket. I have
even been known to walk around with my hands in my pockets. So I guess I better stay away from
places like Austria or the Netherlands. Next time you find yourself doing simple gestures such as
these you may want to consider where you

Music As A Culture Of Major Label Bands On Their Stations...
Nowadays radio stations and televisions are showing only mainstream, major label bands on
their stations and channels. What people mostly do not know is there is another world of music
out there for their listening: indie music. The reason people do not know about indie music is
that these stations and channels will not make as much money from these smaller record labels
as they would from the major labels that are Sony BMG, Universal Music Group, and Warner
Music Group. Indie music is a co culture of major label music but in its own right is a culture by
itself on its own. To determine the aspects and norms of the indie music culture you have to go
back to the beginning or the failed revolution as phrased by Jon Fine in the title of his book Your
Band Sucks: What I Saw at Indie Rock s Failed Revolution (But Can No Longer Hear) (Fine
2015). According to Cohen (2015), unlike other forms of music genre or categories, indie found its
beginnings in college towns or middle class working cities. She states Athens, Georgia, Olympia,
Washington, and her hometown of Louisville, Kentucky were key cities that upstarted the
revolution in the 80 s. Helping the cause was the radio stations in these cities and towns because
they were sympathetic, run by women, and had a strong interest in the culture of art (Cohen 2015).
During the 1980 s people had a Do It Yourself mentality. Cohen (2015) states The line between fan
and performer was paper thin. Anyone could get a band

Mead Vs Piaget
Which sociologist knows better George Herbert Mead or Jean Piaget? Who is right or who is
wrong? While I am not an expert in the field of sociology I have noticed that there are a
multitude of ideas and theories that are considered when trying to study people in our society.
Most of the time there is simply no clear cut right or wrong answer, but a combination of possible
answers that are used to come up with a hypotheses, then used to try and find the most probable
answer. George Herbert Mead ideas are widely known especially the theory of symbolic
interactionism and his ideas about the main phases of child development (Giddens, Duneier and
Appelbaum 84). Mead s symbolic interactionism emphasizes that interaction between human beings

Significance Of Little Sister In Fahrenheit 451
In Fahrenheit 451, Montag represents the Little Sister opposing the government who is the Big
Brother. When Montag meets up with Faber, he lets out his frustrations: Nobody listens any
more....I can t talk to my wife; she listens to the walls. I just want someone to hear what I have to
say. And maybe if I talk long enough, it ll make sense (Bradbury 78). As a Little Sister, Montag
expresses his complaints towards the Big Brother. The government played a big role in creating
their current society. They have concealed real life problems and emotions away from their citizens.
For instance, dead bodies are instantly taken away and incinerated, so their families do not have to
grief. Instead, the government makes entertainment and technology the center their society as an...

As a result, he is unable to even talk to his own family. Furthermore, the last sentence of the quote
indicates that Montag has numerous questions for which he wants answers, yet he does not have
anyone to ask those questions. Montag emphasizes that he is aggravated at the government for
controlling his life and leaving his questions unanswered, similar to little sister having to follow all
the orders of big brothers. When little sisters ask why they have to always follow their big brothers
commands, they are usually left unanswered, similar to Montag s situation. Also, Montag instantly
agrees when Faber suggests the strategic plan to overthrow the fire department created by the
government: ...we print extra books and arrange to have them hidden in firemen s houses all over
the country, so that seeds of suspicion would be sown among those arsonists (Bradbury 81). The
metaphor, seeds of suspicion would be sown among those arsonists refers to firemen doubting each
other s trustworthiness when the books that would be placed in their houses were

The Current Idea Of Intelligence
Paper 1
Intelligence has been identified in many different ways throughout history and varies between
different cultures. The current idea of intelligence consists of intangible properties that include, but
are not limited to, knowledge based thinking, apprehending, adaptive purposeful striving, fluid
analytic reasoning, mental playfulness, and idiosyncratic learning (Krishnamurthy, 2015).
Progression of Intelligence Testing Through the Ages
The notion that Caucasians were superior to other races (e.g., African Americans, Native
Americans, etc.) was a well accepted notion that preceded, and even influenced, early intelligence
testing (Gould, 1996). Research conducted by Samuel Morton on human skulls began in the 1820
s attempted to set up a scientifically based racial ranking system of intelligence through the use of
Craniometry. However, Morton s research was heavily biased, although it appeared his biases
were unintentional and lacked conscious manipulation (p. 101). Even though data from Morton s
research acknowledged that brain size was relative to body size, he failed to correct for
differences in sex or body size (p. 94). Morton also made errors that favored his prejudices which
included inaccurate measurements (e.g., unequal rounding cranial circumference measurements,
over packing skulls) and sampling biases (e.g., including unequal female to male ratios in particular
samples, over representing certain groups samples) (p. 86 101).
Furthermore, scientists such

The purpose of this career is to focus on the study of human movement from eight different aspects;
developmental, historical, mechanical, motor control, pathological, physiological, psychological,
and psychosocial. Within this career one must know every single thing about the human body.
There are several factors that this career highlights such as, exercisephysiology, sport nutrition,
sports psychology, motor behavior, biomechanics, and athletic trainingand sports medicine. In this
career a person enjoys working out, love playing sports, and wants to maintain a healthy body.
There are numerous of job titles that fall under this career. The most common job positions under
an exercise and sports science career are athletic trainers, physical therapists, occupational therapists,
exercise physiologists, physical education teachers, strength and conditioning coaches, personal
trainers, medical physicians, and sports nutritionists. Although there are many different job titles to
choose from, this career has a lot of competition. The job titles within this career has its differences
and similarities.
A physical therapist and an occupational therapist are two job titles that people feel are the same
but they are not. Physical therapists focus more on evaluating and diagnosing movement
dysfunctions, whereas occupational therapists focus on evaluating and improving a person s
functional abilities. However, they both involve educating people on how to prevent and avoid

Murray Bowen Family Systems Theory
Introduction Murray Bowen s Family Systems Theory plays a key role in the field of child life.
Bowen viewed families as an emotional system, where each member is intensely connected to the
other members. In order to analyses families and human behavior, Bowen used a set of concepts.
These concepts became part of his familysystems theory that we use today. Bowens family systems
theory is made up of a total of eight concepts. These concepts include Triangles, Differentiation of
self, Nuclear Family Emotional Process, Family Projection Process, Multigenerational Transmission
Process, Emotional Cutoff, Sibling Position, and Societal Emotional Process. Using these eight
concepts, Bowen was able to examine families and how they interact... Show more content on

Some of these goals include Facilitating awareness of how emotional systems function (Brown,
1990). This is important because it helps clients, families, and children learn about emotional
systems work and function. In addition, another goal is to increase the level of differentiation, the
ability to be in emotional contact with others yet still autonomous in one s own emotional
functioning is the essence of the concept of differentiation (Kerr Bowen. 1988). In other words,
being an emotional support system for family members, but remaining distant with one s own
emotions.
As mentioned above, Bowens family system theory is made up of 8 concepts, these concepts are
(1) Emotional Fusion, (2) Differentiation of self, (3) Triangles, (4) Nuclear family emotional
system, (5) Family projection process, (6) Emotional cutoff, (7) Multi generation transmission
process, and (8) Sibling possession. The first concept that helps make up Bowen s family systems
theory is Emotional fusion or lack of differentiation. Emotional fusion is where individual choices
are set aside in the service of achieving harmony within the system (Brown, 1990). According to
Brown, Emotional Fusion can occur in one of two ways, the first can be when an individual feels
100 percent responsible for others emotions and actions, and the other being a total emotional cutoff
from the tension or feelings within a

David Koresh s The On The World Of Religion
February 28, 1993 would haunt the nation s government for what they have done. For 51
grueling days, the Waco, Texas siege would confuse our nation on who to defend; the Branch
Davidians at Mount Carmel or the FBI. In this essay, I will argue that the FBI had to be the
main culprit in this event by ending the standoff in flames from the tear gas used. But first, I
want to discuss how David Koresh got sealed in the world of religion. David Koresh was born in
1959 as Vernon Wayne Howell in the city of Houston, Texas; his childhood was fairly stressful
since he never knew his real parents and thus raised by his grandparents. But by the age of 12,
he started getting interest in the Bible and started remembering parts of it. In 1981, Howell
joined the Branch Davidians after a difficult musical career of rock music. After departing due to
a power struggle for leadership with followers, he returns with armed disciples in 1987 (BBC,
1999). In 1990, Howell legally changed his named to David Koresh because he was chosen to
be the final prophet with a mission to unlock the Seven Seals of the Book of Revelations. During
his reign, he was speculated to have 19 wives, some as young as 12 years old, and at least 13
children since he considered himself capable of having as many females in his compound. But the
government blamed Koresh of the unthinkable; according to Daniel Bates of Mail Online, he was
accused of beating the children until they were bloody if they had for example, spilled

Identify and understand what drove American Expansion westward

Identify and understand the conflict over settling Texas
Technology s Influence on America s Growth
The economy of the United States changing rapidly. By the 1850s, more people were buying and
selling goods instead of producing goods for their own use. Capitalism was leading this change that
gave private individuals and companies the right to own factories, machines, and land. Business
owners were now investing their own money to make profits.
Capitalism brought change to farmers lives, too. The increasing populations needed more food.
Farmers were starting to used machines to plant and harvest their crops instead of doing all the
labor manually. This allowed them to grow more food to sell. In turn, farmers bought
manufactured goods with the money they earned from selling crops. As the market for goods
increased, the prices came down and allowed more people to purchase items.
People bought themselves new conveniences, such as shoes and boots coated with rubber or a new
sewing machine. The telegraph allowed almost instant communication across great distances.
Steamboats reduced both time and cost of river travel. Canals were dug in regions without passable

Companies having the highest ratios of production costs to net revenues are likely to be caught in a
profit squeeze, with margins too small to cover delivery, marketing, and administrative costs and
interest costs and still have a comfortable margin for profit. Production costs at such companies
are usually too high relative to the price they are charging (their strategic options for boosting
profitability are to cut costs, raise prices, or try to make up for thin margins by somehow selling

A common story told in history is one society having a technological advantage over another
society, and imposing their will either through conquest or assimilation. In Mike Resnick s novel

Kikuyu settlers on a new planet named Kirinyaga. The people of Kirinyaga experience the
assimilation in three ways through direct control, cultural examples, and technological temptation.
The people of Kirinyaga are only allowed to live on the planet, thanks to the charter established by

pros and cons of being certified, and the relationship ISO 9000 has with ISO 14000.
The International Organization for Standardization was founded shortly after the end of World War

Development of the ISO 9000 series was a natural step for the International Organization for

When you compare ISO 9001:1994 and ISO 9001:2000 you ll notice a lot of different changes

of 20 sections, the new standard now has 5 sections. ISO reorganized the ISO 9001 standard in
order to create a more logical structure, and in order to make it more compatible with the ISO
14001 environmental management standard. ISO 9001:2000 is more customer oriented than the
old standard. While the old standard was also oriented towards meeting customer requirements and
achieving customer satisfaction, the new standard addresses this in much greater detail. In addition,
it expects you to communicate with customers and to measure and monitor customer satisfaction.
In the past, organizations that wished to be certified were referred to as suppliers because they
supplied products and services to customers. Since many people were confused by this usage, ISO
standards focus on the organization, not the

(5.2.49 55). By changing his name that was on the letter to England, to the names of
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, he is deceiving and essentially gaining vengeance over them by
sending them to England where they are executed in his place. This act of deception which grants
Hamlet vengeance over his old friends serves to foreshadow the revenge that Hamlet is to bring
over King Claudius. It also predicts the death of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern in which a
British Ambassador informs Denmark of after the murder scene in act 5 even though they actually
died before the death scene in Denmark, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are dead (5.2.372).
Shakespeare allowed for this to happen so that he could essentially make it seem that they all die at
once. Hamlet s deceiving of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern help Shakespeare accomplish this effect
as well as his underlying message that he conveys to the reader through many examples and
instances of a deceiving nature leading to complete and total

  • 2. The Character Of Francis Macomber, By William Hemingway As is the typical story arch, characters undergo change throughout the story. One of the most vivid transformations is that of Francis Macomber, the protagonist. Francis is a very wealthy man, who was considered to be quite handsome. At 35, he has the appearance of someone held in high regard. However, everyone knows Francis as the coward that he is. Not only does everyone else know, but even Francis himself realizes this problem. Hemingway writes, But more than shame he felt cold, hollow fear in him. The fear was still there like a cold slimy hollow in all the emptiness where once his confidence had been and it made him feel sick. (7). This depiction of Francis shows the hollow shell of a person he has become. He is not contempt with being this way and undertakes various steps to exit his shell, but for the majority of the story, and, moreover, his life, he is in this shadow of grief and despair. This quote uses personification of the fear to really emphasises the impact that his cowardly ways have on his life. Francis main approach to making himself a more whole person is by completing a hunt the right way. After slaying the buffalo, Francis felt vindicated of his fearful ways. Not even a minute later, he was dead, killed by his own wife. Francis Macomber lay now, face down, not two yards from where the buffalo lay on his side and his wife knelt over him with Wilson beside her. (24). This quote symbolizes the end of Francis Macomber, but in a good way. He died happy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. The Anzacs And The Development Of Nationalism In Australia... The ANZACs were a significant influence in the development of nationalism in Australia during World War One (WWI). Throughout WWI, Australian formed the fundamentals of the now universally recognised Australian identity. The ANZACs played a crucial role in the establishment of a mixture of both cultural and triumphal nationalism as Australias exposure to other cultures during WWI saw them no longer recognised as an extension of Britain but an independent group of competent men and women that could equal their Commonwealth forefathers in the war effort. Thus, forming a distinct identity and sense of nationalism that s significance, decades after WWI, remained strongly associated with the WWI ANZACs. Nationalism is seen to have two origins. ... • 5. Capulet In Romeo And Juliet Similar to a parasite, Juliet, the daughter of Capulet and Lady Capulet in the play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, is a character who is very dependent and doesn t formulate her own opinion. So, throughout the course of the story, Juliet develops her own thoughts and continuously becomes more independent according to the experiences she faces, consisting of disobeying her parents, falling deeply in love with Romeo and finally accomplishing her liberty. William Shakespeare has created Juliet by interpreting her as a character who has transferred from a dependent person to an independent person. For instance, while Juliet was asking the nurse about the fight between Romeo and Tybalt, Juliet says, What storm is this that blows so contrary?... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, on the Balcony scene, when Romeo encountered Juliet, Juliet exclaimed, O Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo? / Deny thy father and refuse thy name, / Or, if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love, / And I ll no longer be a Capulet (2.2.36 39). This showcases that Juliet truly loves Romeo, meaning she regrets that Romeo is a Montague and that she is a Capulet. The division between their families produces a lot of issues for them because the Capulet and the Montagues have massacred themselves continuously. Shakespeare uses connotation by deeply showing that Juliet essentially asks Romeo, why he is a Montague? Juliet asks Romeo to object his last name, so they could have a peaceful relationship, not separated by violence. In addition to this, when Juliet went to consult Friar Lawrence concerning the marriage with Count Paris, she said, O, bid me leap, rather than marry Paris, / From off the battlements of any tower, / Or walk in thievish ways, or bid me lurk / Where serpents are. Chain me with roaring bears, / Or hide me nightly in a charnel house (4.1.78 81). This demonstrates that Juliet prefers to die than to marry Count Paris. She is essentially saying that she ll do anything not to marry Paris. She also says that she prefers to live with the corrupt and the unfair people. In conclusion, this symbolizes that Juliet s love for Romeo has transferred to a very deep level, thus, demonstrating a change in Juliet s behavior, so, this portrays a dynamic ... What if I told you our zoos aren t doing their jobs of providing and caring for the animals. Zoos have been around for a very long time, early zoos were organized by taxonomy. In our modern world over 100 million people visit zoos worldwide. As these facts show, zoos have thrived in our world for a long time. At what cost for the animalsthough? Most of the animals in zoos aren t even endangered. Zoos are great but need to improve. We need to focus on these things that need to be improved in our zoos. In 2016, most people knew of the gorilla Harambe. A young boyfell into his enclosure, Harambe was then put down in order to save the boys life. This means we need to work hard to keep zoos safe. Jason Lukasik, from Is it Time to Break with the Colonial Legacy of Zoos, states A young boy falls into the moat and our ordering of animals breaks down. What this quote shows is how our zoos are faulty. Even though we may have thought our zoos to be safe, a little boy managed to fall into the gorillas enclosure. We then go into a state of panic. • 7. Communication Is A Form Of Symmetrical Communication Communication can come in various forms. A person can write, speak, or even use American Sign Language to communicate. Within communication itself, there are various styles used and ways to receive feedback. To name a couple, two way asymmetrical and two way symmetrical communication are two well know forms in regards to Public Relations. Asymmetrical Communication happens when professionals seek to pursue their publics into changing their opinions about certain things. However, this attempt is usually unequal, given that professionals use research to help them persuade their publics. Symmetrical Communication on the other hand has a form of balance to it and can lead publics to change their attitudes on their own. I think that blogging is a form of symmetrical communication. Although it may seem unusual, this is an actual form of communication. A person (both professional and non professional) is able to publish their opinion about something and publics are able to read and/or respond by commenting. Usually blog posts get overlooked. There are probably a million posts that have been published, but no one has read. However, well known bloggers or blog sites, like Perez Hilton, TMZ, Mashable, and my personal favorite, The Shade room are all somewhat reliable sources. Many of these are digital media. These are people and/or their sites that receive a ton of feedback from their blog posts. The Shade Room in particular usually posts updates and breaking news on celebrities, ... When entering EN3414, I had no knowledge of critical theories or how to use secondary sources to enhance my argument instead of carry it. I believed my heavy sentence phrasing to be an asset instead of a way to bury my argument beneath long thoughts. In EN3414, I was able to focus on taking my papers straight to my argument, to avoid useless sources or let them lead the paperinstead of letting my argument carry the essay. And because I have learned to revise and rewrite my papers as many times as possible before they are due, I can no acknowledge the parts of my essay that are too heavy or that need to be expanded upon. As I finish this course I feel my writingis clear and concise, stating an idea and following that argument throughout the paper. Before taking Critical Writing and Research Literary Studies, my writing, while rather average, was enough to enable success in composition and survey courses; however, it was not advanced enough for this class. The writings for composition or survey classes were organized, but lacked a depth or clear argument. While the topics would be clear and covered, there would be little to no in depth analysis and more of a skimming above the surface. Even in longer papers, the depth of my argument was never really deep enough, and while it was enough for the beginning courses, it clearly became a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Interpretation of Muir s Horses Essay Interpretation of Muir s Horses My interpretation of Edwin Muir s poem entitled Horses is one of a past memory and the conflict and anger brought about by this memory , a conflict between light and darkness, good and evil in the mind of a elderly dying man, fearing death as he gazes out across a field. The memory being that of a day from his past, where he as a child farm worker watched a team of horses ploughing the stubble back into the field during a rainy day which gets progressively more stormy. The horses making their way to and fro across the field leaving furrows, the setting sunlight breaking through the clouds picking out images in the distance. Images getting darker and more vivid as the horses drew nearer. A... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The poem is in the form of a four line verse with an almost constant AA BB rhyme. The line lengths are constant but some lines do run on into the next. The rhythm of the poem begins with a slow pace, this is suggested by the word lumbering in line 1, then the piece begins to slowly pick up the tempo at line 13. This tempo to me then builds with each successive line until a climax is reached with line 24. The poet then purposely puts the brakes on the tempo by using repetition of the word fade line 25, after which the tempo is the same as at the beginning. The religious theme to this poem is made by the use of similes and metaphors in the horses descriptions. An example being their comparison to seraphims of gold (line 11), seraphim s of course being an order of angels. Another being the use the word bossy (line 15), a reference perhaps to the carved wooden bosses found high in the vaulting of Gothic Church ceilings. He sets a creepy mood to the piece by the process of alliteration using the letter m (line 12) to lower the tempo and tone prior to the fourth verse. It is here when the tempo begins to gain momentum, another piece of alliteration is used in the form of the expression broad breasted (line 14), which instills the idea that these creatures are big and so should make a larger impact to us as they overpower the sinking sun. From now on the horses are taking on more and more almost mythological properties, glowing with mysterious fire (line 19), and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Impact of Memory on Voting Behaviors The Impact of Memory on Voting Behaviors In The Determinants and Consequences of Recall Error about Gulf War Preferences , Mark Joslyn examines the effects of outside influences on the opinions of voters. Specifically, Joslyn explores errors in autobiographical memories of opinions of the government s involvement in the Gulf War and studies the change of opinions of individuals pre and post war. Memories are an important factor when making political decisions. It is necessary to study these memories to help political researchers anticipate the way voters may vote in upcoming elections. Joslyn investigated various data to determine whether: 1) outside influences used to reconstruct a person s memory in a way that alters their opinion regarding an issue; and 2) the support of the government of the issue can change a person s opinion. Similar research had been performed by such authors as Shanto Iyengar and Adam Simon, but they did not address the issue of why the percentage of people opposed to the Gulf War prior to the war decreased sharply when the same people were interviewed after the war (Joslyn, 2003, p. 442). Joslyn examined the opinions of the public before and after the Gulf War to determined how the outside influences effected the voting behaviors of that group. A survey conducted by the American National Election Studies (ANES) found that people rely on the popular opinions that they see in the media as opposed to recalling their own preferences at ... This issue has been the topic of heated debate for years in the religious, scientific, and political community. This is because this topic ties into many communities and effects a large amount of people. These cases brought the right to diedebate to the religious community. The reason for this is from the use of life support which many believe should not be used at all because people should die naturally as they believe god intended. This belief also ties into the matter of physician assisted suicide brought up in the Vacco v. Quill case, one should not be given a lethal dose of drugs and should die naturally. The publics opinion on the right to die has a drastic range, due to the fact this matter spans all groups of people. A popular opinion from the public is that the government has no right to decide whether someone can or cannot end their lives, pertaining to the case of Vacco v. Quill and euthanasia . This statement is a very true one, why should the government be involved in the death of a free person? This may be the case for euthanasia, but there is another factor in the right to die debate. Indie music is a co culture of major label music but in its own right is a culture by itself on its own. To determine the aspects and norms of the indie music culture you have to go back to the beginning or the failed revolution as phrased by Jon Fine in the title of his book Your Band Sucks: What I Saw at Indie Rock s Failed Revolution (But Can No Longer Hear) (Fine 2015). When Montag meets up with Faber, he lets out his frustrations: Nobody listens any more....I can t talk to my wife; she listens to the walls. I just want someone to hear what I have to say. And maybe if I talk long enough, it ll make sense (Bradbury 78). As a Little Sister, Montag expresses his complaints towards the Big Brother. The government played a big role in creating their current society. They have concealed real life problems and emotions away from their citizens. For instance, dead bodies are instantly taken away and incinerated, so their families do not have to grief. The current idea of intelligence consists of intangible properties that include, but are not limited to, knowledge based thinking, apprehending, adaptive purposeful striving, fluid analytic reasoning, mental playfulness, and idiosyncratic learning (Krishnamurthy, 2015). Progression of Intelligence Testing Through the Ages The notion that Caucasians were superior to other races (e.g., African Americans, Native Americans, etc.) was a well accepted notion that preceded, and even influenced, early intelligence testing (Gould, 1996). Research conducted by Samuel Morton on human skulls began in the 1820 s attempted to set up a scientifically based racial ranking system of intelligence through the use of Craniometry. However, Morton s research was heavily biased, although it appeared his biases were unintentional and lacked conscious manipulation (p. 101). Even though data from Morton s research acknowledged that brain size was relative to body size, he failed to correct for differences in sex or body size (p. 94). Morton also made errors that favored his prejudices which included inaccurate measurements (e.g., unequal rounding cranial circumference measurements, over packing skulls) and sampling biases (e.g., including unequal female to male ratios in particular samples, over representing certain groups samples) (p. 86 101). Some of these goals include Facilitating awareness of how emotional systems function (Brown, 1990). This is important because it helps clients, families, and children learn about emotional systems work and function. In addition, another goal is to increase the level of differentiation, the ability to be in emotional contact with others yet still autonomous in one s own emotional functioning is the essence of the concept of differentiation (Kerr Bowen. 1988). In other words, being an emotional support system for family members, but remaining distant with one s own emotions. For 51 grueling days, the Waco, Texas siege would confuse our nation on who to defend; the Branch Davidians at Mount Carmel or the FBI. In this essay, I will argue that the FBI had to be the main culprit in this event by ending the standoff in flames from the tear gas used. But first, I want to discuss how David Koresh got sealed in the world of religion. David Koresh was born in 1959 as Vernon Wayne Howell in the city of Houston, Texas; his childhood was fairly stressful since he never knew his real parents and thus raised by his grandparents. But by the age of 12, he started getting interest in the Bible and started remembering parts of it. In 1981, Howell joined the Branch Davidians after a difficult musical career of rock music. After departing due to a power struggle for leadership with followers, he returns with armed disciples in 1987 (BBC, 1999). In 1990, Howell legally changed his named to David Koresh because he was chosen to be the final prophet with a mission to unlock the Seven Seals of the Book of Revelations. During his reign, he was speculated to have 19 wives, some as young as 12 years old, and at least 13 children since he considered himself capable of having as many females in his compound.
