California Cuisine Essay
California leads as the largest agricultural powerhouse and farm income in the United States by
providing for consumers over two hundred types of crops; and represents about 73% of the state s
agricultural revenues collected from crops (Economy of California, 2009). The perception of
Californian cuisine is based on the fact that California has lots of agricultural products from which a
variety of fresh ingredients are made. The foundation of today s Californian cuisine and how it has
flourished in to its current style can be considered very subjective or can be defined as individual s
opinion based on their own experiences .In general, Californian cuisine is characterized by different
combinations of local cuisine of California.

There are also plenty of other restaurants that include: Baja Fresh, Taco Bell, Qdoba Mexican Grill,
Chevy s Fresh Mex, and Chipotle Mexican Grill. Mexican influences are not the only characterization
of Californian cuisine.
California is a huge melting pot of different cultures, which not only reflects in California culture but
also in cuisine. The population of California shows dramatic change of size from year to year
especially from Hispanics and Asians population. There are also a growing percentage of multiracial
populations. California is much more diverse than many other states and because of this degree of
diversity has brought together many different walks of life including food. Fusion cuisine is very
popular in California and because of the diversity it brings together many flavors. One example is
Wolfgang Puck, who began his fame as a chef in Southern California with fusion Chinese and French
cuisine. There are many other chefs that have contributed and played a role to the growing of
Californian cuisine. One chef that is famous to the actual birth of Californian cuisine is Alice Waters,
in the early 1970s, and her restaurant known as Chez Panisse in Berkeley, California (Shearer, 2008).
Alice Waters believe that Californian cuisine as cooking should be based on the finest and freshest
seasonal ingredients that are produced sustainable and locally (Waters, 2007). Jeremiah Towers, who
worked at Chez Panisse as a chef, has

Policy and prime business function of my organization is to monitor customer satisfaction on service
levels and product quality. Supply Chain Management (SCM) is an integrated business model that
takes a process based view of how all of the business functions need to work together and how a
business relates to its suppliers and customers (Dr. Douglas Lambert, 2008)
Therefore, SCM is a process that links all the business functions of an organization. Knauf, like any
other successful gypsum board company if has to pursue its objectives will have to work with
streamlined processes and with well defined business functions and very effective supply chain

A Summary On The Day Of Milan
yer English 101 Unity High School Here I was, asleep on the plane dreaming of my time in Italy, a
place that once used to be apart of my imagination. I dreamt of Milan and the fashion trends that I ll
never quite understand, of Venice and the anxiety filled gondola ride through the city s canals, of
Florence and the hike up the Pre Apennine Mountains, and of Rome with its historical sites that most
will only see in textbooks. Walking through the airport to the bus, I could already tell that Milan was a
place that most of us felt like we didn t belong. The short bus ride was full of twists and turns and
hearing our tour guide, Elvira, tell us that we ll soon learn how to drive like Italians. After reaching
Milan and walking through the city in shorts and plain shirts, we had never felt so underdressed in
such a casual situation. Women were touring the city square, their outfits congested with too many
patterns and bright heels. Around us, electronic billboards flashed advertisements for companies like
Gucci, Prada, and Dolce Gabbana, signaling the new hottest looks, but ones that I could never imagine
anyone actually wearing. I was wrong... Hoards of women blocked the sidewalks city square, eyeing
the new merchandise through the window front. I was thankful to have finally found what felt like a
safe environment after getting back on the bus; the awkward feeling of thinking that I stuck out like a
sore thumb was washed away. The three hour long bus ride from Milan to

Is Shakespeare Still Relevant Essay
It has been over 400 years since William Shakespeare s death in 1616, and it is continually debated
whether or not his works of literature are still relevant. Shakespeare not only built a framework for the
universal themes of life and human nature, but he also engaged in a role involved in transforming the
English language. Furthermore, a number of words and phrases spoken today are derived from various
Shakespearean plays. The phenomenon behind Shakespeare remains relevant in our current society;
his works are an essential piece in understanding the themes of love, loss, betrayal, and tragedy. The
essence of Shakespeare s plays can be described as not of an age, but for all time, according to Ben
Jonson.
The primary basis of Shakespeare s plays relies on the complexity of the English language. In order to

Films and novels are two sources of media that continue to emphasize Shakespeare s work in order to
highlight certain themes. Two notable portrayals of Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet include West Side
Story and Gnomeo and Juliet. The primary basis of this play focuses upon forbidden love. By adapting
this work to film, audiences are better able to understand the complex message behind such a play. If
Shakespeare wasn t still a relevant component after hundreds of years, authors and filmmakers would
not be attempting to convey his message in order to captivate an audience.
Furthermore, Shakespeare s relevance is also portrayed as part of national campaigns. One particular
motivational campaign, Pass It On, developed a billboard in regards to Shakespeare that states, Words
never had it so good. Do thy best. In honor of Shakespeare s relentless creativity, Pass It On wants to
encourage its viewers to continue to strive for the better. If Shakespeare can make an impact, any other

Comparing the Governments and Economies of China, India, Japan, and Korea The purpose of this
essay is to compare and contrast the government and economies of four countries in Asia: China,
India, Japan, and Korea. Topics that will be discussed are their governments, economies, resources,
and citizens. China China, officially the People s Republic of China, is a single party state, meaning
there is only one political party. China was founded on January 1, 1912. The per Capita GDP for the

economy is driven by its major natural resources, agricultural, and industrial products. Natural
resources, such as minerals, graphite, and coal, are found, but not abundantly. Agricultural products
that are production are grains, rice, and beans. Industrial products include weapons and steel. North

Technical Innovation, Policy Making And Industrial Strategy
Recommendations
While Autonomous car presents enormous potential and benefits, there is a long way to go before we
achieve fully self driving automation. Going forward, there are three areas we would like to advise on:
technical innovation, policy making and industrial strategy.
Firstly, there have been active innovations in modular functionalities. In the technologies list below,
most of them are still in the early stage of the S curve and it will take long time for the trial, testing
and adoption (for example, it took almost 50 years for the complete adoption of airbags), especially
when safety is the number one concern in the automobile sector. Therefore, open and continuous
innovation is the essence to improve functionality, technical performance and reliability, and to
address technical issues.
Automatic braking: it senses an imminent distance with another vehicle or a velocity related danger
and responds either by pre charging the brakes or by applying the brakes to slow the vehicle without
any driver input.
Electronic Stability control: a computerized technology improves vehicle s stability by detecting and
minimizing skids. It automatically applies the brakes and helps to minimize a loss of control. ESC

We Can Not Control The Passage Of Time
Our divided selves and our Self s: how we betray ourselves through our design
O plunge your hands in water,
Plunge them in up to the wrist;
Stare, stare in the basin
And wonder what you ve missed.
As I Walked Out One Evening,
W. H. Auden
We cannot control the passage of time: like water, it slips through our fingers and reminds us that we
are ephemeral. If we are born into this world without our will and we leave it without our will then,
alone, each of us is vulnerable and separate. Vulnerable to the external forces which influence our
sense of identity and then separate from one another due to our biological parameters. As life
experience accumulates these newly deposited substances sediment and float to the surface to
convalesce into ideas, opinions and emotions and, as Edward de Bono puts it, is where the brain
becomes mind.
Even if we cannot halt the passage of time or stop the water from flowing, our actions in the present
have the power to direct the stream so that once we learn to swim we are able to choose what we do
with our lives. If our time is biologically limited and if we need each other, in order to be personally
fulfilled, it stands to reason that we should strive for a good life for everyone, so how can we do more
good? If there is a mechanism which absolves us from our responsibility to be good, what is it? The
simple answer could be that we are human.
But what is humanity and how does our self awareness dictate our capacity to be good? A

Building A Mobile Application For Their Company
Many small business companies are faced with the decision on whether or not to build a mobile
application for their company. Mobile applications can provide their prospective customers, the ability
to scan barcodes, be able to view the details of products, and purchase those products thought the
mobile application. There are a many factors that need to be considered before you make this decision.
In this essay, a business case of this will be presented and a recommendation will be made on the way
forward for the company.

Introducing an electronic gadget that can scan barcodes. This will introduce a different item that will
serve only one purpose of scanning barcodes.
2. Attaching each product with a note containing all the details of the product. This will make it easier
for those who can afford a mobile with barcode scanner or a gadget which can scan the barcodes of
products.
Feasibility analysis
According to Hu Mousavinezhad (2013), developing the mobile application will feasible and viable
since almost everyone uses a phone and this will be very easy and convenient to just install the mobile
application on the phone and thus can scan the barcodes of the products. The Introducing an electronic
gadget that can scan barcodes is feasible to some extent since it will be a specialized product for that
purpose but in terms of the extra cost to the consumers it may be a project that will fail. Attaching
each product with a note containing all the details of the product may also be a feasible idea but it s
only that this may affect the look and cover image of the product i.e. text books.
The cost of ownership of the mobile application
The cost of ownership of the mobile application to be introduced is determined in terms of the direct
and indirect costs that are associated with it. The direct cost on this is the purchase of the mobile
phone with this application. The indirect cost is the associated cost such as the cost of recharging the
battery since the laser powered

Nurse Educator
Overall the nurse educator can have a huge impact on decreasing LV. Nurse educators can provide a
safe learning environment that challenge and prepare students for their transition into their new role as
a nurse (Thomas, Bertram, Allen, 2012). Through the clinical practice environment it provides the
opportunity for students to practice learned skills and apply this knowledge when the student begins
their practice as a nurse in the workplace.
Nurse Managers (NM) are also an important component of decreasing LV in the workplace. It is
important that leadership refuse to tolerate LV (Major, Abderrahman, Alvarez, Sweeney, 2013). The
NM needs to address any incidences of LV immediately. It is suggested the NM engage the employees
in a crucial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The NM needs to bring it out in the open so it can be discussed and addressed (Koch, 2012). Engage
the staff by providing education on LV and how to stop it. Use the team approach to set the
expectations for interactions and hold staff accountable on their performance appraisals. Coach the
staff on the necessary skills such as cognitive rehearsal to stop LV. In cognitive rehearsal the person
who is on the receiving end of LV uses this technique to stop, stay calm, and think about what was
said and not personalize the behavior. Once the person has stopped and thought through what was said
the nurse can then respond calmly to help defuse the situation. Addressing the behavior when it
happens has a bigger impact on stopping the behavior (Griffin Clark, 2014).
For the individual almost all the articles write about the importance of educating nursing staff about
LV. Nurses should learn to recognize it and confront it. Role model acceptable behavior and be the
change. Be assertive in your communications and empowered. Do not suffer in silence or talk to other
co workers as this can perpetuate the problem. Document the incidences of LV but keep emotions out
of the documentation. Schedule a meeting with the supervisor and file a formal complaint (Thompson,

Evil Revivalists And Evil Sceptics
In philosophy, there are two groups of people who debate the concept of evil, Evil Revivalists and Evil
Sceptics. Evil Revivalists are all about evil being a useful term in today s society. They argue the word
evil is the only concept we can use for the worst of the worst. They also say that only by facing the
evil in our lives can we prevent it. This theory helps society to focus our limited energy and resources
when describing evil and helps us to respond better to evil. The Evil Sceptics on the other hand think
evil is concept that is too extreme and only hinders our thinking about bad events. They argue that evil
is often associated with the supernatural and lacks explanatory power. They also say that it is way too

Similarities and Difference of Japan and Western Europe Essay
Similarities and Difference of Japan and Western Europe
Both Japan and Europe were politically similar for many reasons:
Each strove to maintain a centralized government. For Japan the leader was to be called an emperor or
empress who could only be a part of the royal family if they were related to the Shinto sun goddess.
As for Europe, the leader was to be called a king or a queen. Like Japan, not just anybody could
become royalty. Kings and queens came from a long descent of an Imperial family. Tradition was that
the first born son of the king would become the next ruler following the kings death. However, if no
legitimate son were born then the daughter would become queen. In Europe, the royal family and
institution was usually ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In both Japan and Europe the elegance of the royal courts has never been matched to this day.
Great elegance and refinement marked life in Japan and Europe s capitals. In Europe and Japan great
castles were built marking the capital of each separate country. The royal families promoted the arts,
medicine, and science. One of the most memorable of European castles lies just outside of Paris,
France. The Palace of Versailles built by King Louis XIV in the seventeenth century. In Japan
however, the funerals of the emperors and empresses was more memorable. Kofun Mounds were
mounds of earth piled over their ruler s graves. The largest keyhole tomb measured 486m in length,
305m in width, and 33.6m in height. It was provided for Emperor Nintoku.
One of the major differences between Europe and Japan was colonization:
As individual European countries scrambled to gain more territory to add to their Empires, Japan
feared the changes that visiting countries brought. When other countries visited Japan with imports to
trade they also brought with them a new religion, Christianity. Japanese Emperors feared the chaos
that a new religion would bring and decided to shut the rest of the world out. Only the Dutch were
allowed to trade with the Japanese as a need remained to be informed of the rest of the world and
medical advances.

However, tourism is one of the factors that is affecting Hawaii and the native people negatively.
Touristy is associated with cultural diversity. Although it has its advantages, there are also some
drawbacks that makes the idea of tourism in Hawaii a negative thing. Every place in Hawaii is sacred
to Hawaiians but sadly, they no longer have the power to protect every single land. The number of
Hawaiians are decreasing and it is hard for them to object to the things that are replacing these lands.
The territories their ancestors used to own now holds; buildings, hotels, houses, shopping malls, and
many more. With the continuous development of the economy, many Hawaiians are struggling to

annexed by the United States, it became harder for them to remain in tact with their culture. When the

Crebrum Research Paper
As humans, we all utilize the organ known as the brain to keep ourselves alive. The brain must be
working in optimal condition to ensure our survival and the continuation of our species. Not only is
this vital organ necessary to sustain life, it also is used to perform common everyday tasks as well as
more complex ones. Similar to all organs, the brain is made up of many different components. The
three main sections are the cerebrum, the brain stem, and the cerebellum (New Book of Knowledge,

of Knowledge, 364). The cerebrum is especially important because most functions take place there.
Even the cerebrum itself is composed of various portions. There is much to know about the cerebrum,

Analysis Of Don Delillo s White Noise
Don DeLillo is an American writer born in 1936. DeLillo is a postmodernist and has written eleven
books receiving various awards for his work. The title of DeLillo s eighth novel White Noise brings
forth many assumptions towards the overall meaning of the book. If one was to generally interpret the
meaning, white noise is produced when sound waves are joined together creating a constant buzz. This
buzz can produce a relaxing or an overwhelming feeling, depending, if it refers to a repetitive noise
one is trying to avoid or perhaps noise one is trying to embrace. With this being said, DeLillo s White
Noise is set in the twentieth century, and tells a story about a college professor by the name of Jack
Gladney who is a professor for the Hitler Studies at College on the Hill. Throughout the novel it is
evident that Jack is the main character and the narrator of the story, who experiences a constant
murmur of his underlying fear of death invading his thoughts. The constant reminder of white noise
causes Jack to have uncertainties that stop him from repressing death in the society around him. As a
result, Jack is challenged with many obstacles as he tries to avoid, cope, and confront the thought of
death while diminishing the white noise that he is trying to escape.
Avoidance is choosing to hide from the inevitable truth instead of accepting the thought of death. In

Is there a difference in the mathematical ability between men and women? Historians have no precise
method of quantifying or comparing their individual accomplishments (Olsen). Not only in

their male counterparts. Women were not encouraged to pursue a career in mathematics. Historically,
women were seen working around the home, cleaning the house, taking care of the children, and

Head and Neck Essay
Common head and neck surgery includes the removal of the voice box: largyngectomy and
tracheostomy: making an incision on the anterior aspect of the neck and opening an airway through an
incision in the trachea. The removal of the larynx occurs in cases of laryngeal cancer and in this case
the airway is separated from the mouth, nose and oesophagus meaning that the patient will breathe
through a stoma in the neck. In tracheostomy cases the resulting stoma can act as an airway and a
tracheotomy tube is inserted, enabling the individual to breathe without the use of their nose and
mouth.
Tracheostomys may be required for long term control of excessive bronchial secretions, particularly in
those with reduced consciousness or to maintain an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This means that air does not pass through the vocal cords and so speech is not possible. Sometimes
patients can have a tracheostomy tube that allows some air to go through the vocal chords and out of
the mouth. Patients can have this type of tube if they are able to swallow without difficulty and if they
do not need a tracheostomy tube with an inflated cuff in order to get air into the lungs.
The last option is surgical voice restoration which was introduced by Singer amp; Blom in
1980(Blom,1995) Not all patients are suitable for this however, It involves a tracheoesophageal
speaking valve, a small fistula is surgically created through the tracheal wall into the oesophagus. A
small, one way valve is inserted into the fistula and it allows air to be shunted from the trachea to the
oesophagus and up through the pharyngo oesophageal segment creating an acoustic wave form and
voice. A longer flow of voice can be achieved as pulmonary air is used as the initiator for voice.
Another problem that arises in head and neck patients is that of malnutrition and weight loss. They are
particularly at risk of developing nutritional problems. Many patients with head and neck cancer have
histories of high alcohol intake, tobacco use and poor dietary habits. Malnutrition often when alcohol
is involved. Patients nutritional needs should be assessed and patients at high risk of

These attacks destabilized The Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, and Great Britain as a whole.
While the motivation behind these attacks was ultimately intended to lead to the unification of Ireland,
the reality was the erosion of local and international sympathy and support for the IRA. The Omagh

eventually led to peace talks between England the IRA. Throughout the history of the IRA, and their

Animals in Medical Experiments Essay
Animal experimentation has been credited for the medicines made to assist diabetes, vaccines for
smallpox, deep brain stimulation for parkinson s disease, and many more along with millions of
dollars spent on failed experiments, millions of animal deaths a year, misleading data and an overall
bigger loss than gain. The main point of animal testing is to benefit the safety and overall health of
humans, but testing on non humans to learn about humans doesn t contribute to the cause. Humans
have the voice protective of their own lives and demand rights, though every living creature deserves
the right to life and to safety. The way these animals are being treated is heinous and insulting to the

Animal testing models live generally deplorable and very restricted. These animals are deprived of
social interaction and proper living environments their entire lives. This often causes odd behaviors
that could very well interfere with every experiment. For example large Rhesus monkeys are kept in

Flour 1.5 6.5 6.4 6.5 The results showed that the tapioca flour made the bread rise the most. Although
tapioca flour has no gluten in it, it is often combined with a different type of flour. In this experiment
it is combined with rice flour. Rice flour is also gluten free, so it is combined with baking soda and
baking powder. The baking soda and baking powder are the binding agents in this recipe. If there is no
binding agent in a gluten free bread then the bread will not be elastic. The reason tapioca flour rises
the most is mainly because of the baking powder. Another binding agent in this recipe are the eggs.
Since eggs have protein in them it will help to make the bread elastic. If you use to much baking
powder then the bread will break. On the other hand if you do not use enough baking powder the
bread will not rise that much at all. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Scapegoat Research Paper
A scapegoat is someone or something that receives all the blame for when something goes wrong.
Scapegoats have been humanity s way of pointing the finger and ignoring any wrongdoing that may
have led to a failure. No one ever wants to take responsibility when a failure occurs, but there s always
someone around to take the glory if success is achieved. Historically speaking, scapegoats were more
of a reason people used to do bad things. Hitler, for instance, used the Jewish religion and people who
practiced it in his country as his scapegoat for trying to achieve domination. No one wants to gain the
responsibility and criticism that comes with failure, but appointing a scapegoat seems to be the easy
way of dealing with it. In ancient societies, scapegoats were very popular and there were even specific
animals and people who would be sacrificed if something went wrong. I think that was done more as
part of religious practice, but the idea of a scapegoat taking the blame still stands. The people would
most likely have been criminals or problematic people in the society and who would easily be
accepted as a scapegoat for any failures experienced. As time continued, scapegoats were not as ...

Beethoven Op-2 Essay
In the first movement of Beethoven s Piano Sonata No. 1 in F Minor, op. 2, the composer draws on a
variety of stylistic strands that contributed to the evolution of the mature classical style. Through an
analysis of specific musical elements, which include references to form and style, structure, harmony,
thematic material, dynamics and textural considerations, I will show how Beethoven adheres to the
formal and stylistic conventions associated with the sonata during this period, as well as how he
asserted his own voice, creating his own Beethovenian style. Beethoven makes use of a multitude of
styles throughout the exposition, moving from style galant to Sturm und Drang and ending in
empfandsamer. The primary theme in mm. 1 8 exemplifies the qualities of style galant. Beethoven
uses a two measure long motive repeatedly in the right hand and block chords in the left. The
dominant right hand melody with chordal accompaniment in the left is an indicator for style galant. In
m. 9 he begins the transition away from F minor, and arrives at A flat Major in m. 20. As he introduces
new material in mm. 15 19, Beethoven continues to use these qualities. After the transition comes the
secondary theme in m. 20. The secondary theme displays a legato lyrical ascending pattern with
chromatic points, varying drastically from the much more detached melody in the first primary theme.
The secondary theme starts at piano like the first theme, but varies its dynamics with forzandos on

Essay on Parallelism of Satan and Eve in John Milton´s...
In John Milton s Paradise Lost, the parallelism between Satan and Eve s fall is strong in that they were
once both the highest before pure perfection. Lucifer is associated with evil, which stems from his free
will leading to his rebellion against God and, ultimately, his great fall. He is known as the one who
introduces sin to Adam and Eve the first humans to ever exist. His plan to go against God is the
beginning of a whole new world to the universe and a whole new significance of himself as the one
known for human error and evil. Eve, the mother of human race, is Satan s target to pull her down to
his world of sin because she also wishes to become independent of Adam making her susceptible to
anything that can separate her from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, craving independence from God ferociously backfires on Satan when he finds out that even
after leaving hell, he cannot escape it, which way [he] [flies] is Hell, [he] [himself] is Hell, (IV, 75).
Satan finds his way to revolt against and separate from God to overrule Heaven and become king,
instead however, he takes on the role of the representation of all evil which is evidently seen in his
interactions with Eve. Eve s hunger to become independent from Adam and all she is commanded to
do is similar to Satan s situation in that their yearn for power and singular identity lead them to revolt
against their creator. Her desire to separate from Adam is first seen when she is introduced to the
audience in her state of narcissism. She sees a reflection of herself in a pond and is in awe of her
beauty of sympathy and love, (IV, 465) which shows the parallelism to Satan s own arrogant vanity.
He catches on to this similarity they share and decides she will be an easy target of persuasion. He
quickly takes charge and plans how he will lead her to eat the apple from the Tree of Knowledge,
which is the only tree that God prohibited to pick fruit from. Satan first catches her attention by being
a serpent who speaks; something she had never encountered before. He smooth talks her into really
listening to him by focusing his words around her and how much better life could be if she just took a

Commentary on: Pecan market is a crackin
In the last few years the economic growth of China has caused the demand (and supply) of all kinds of
nuts, especially pecans, to rise and producers are facing a challenge meeting the soaring demand, says
The Globe and Mail October 18th 2010.
Demand and supply are the quantity of a good or service that consumers and producers are willing
able to purchase and produce at a given price in a given time period. Equilibrium is a state of rest, self

quantity supplied. Price elasticity of demand (PED) is the responsiveness of demand in change of

However, instead of keeping the price at P1, the suppliers will rather shift the supply curve to the right
by exporting more pecans because the Chinese demand is greater than the demand North American
demand and they can make more profit by allocating resources to China instead. Here we assume that
PE is greater than North American price of pecans.
This causes a positive shift in supply for China, from SC to SC1. Now, at price P1, Q1 pecans is

that most companies in that country are not willing to change their accounting standards. Throughout
the history of the Czech Republic s accounting standards, companies were only obligated to maintain

was set up for companies cost accounting, including inventory management, costs and benefits of

Pain Is A Complex Interaction Involving Sensory, Emotional...
Pain is a complex interaction involving sensory, emotional and behavioural factors, so its definition
and treatment must include these aspects. According to Loeser and Melzack in Pain: an overview, the
best definition of pain is that endorsed by the International Association for the study of pain. Pain is an
unpleasant sensory and emotional experience associated with actual or potential tissue damage, or
described in such terms of such damage. Until the 1960s, pain was considered an inevitable sensory
response to tissue damage . Pain is now costing the NHS millions everyday, back pain represents half
of all chronic pain and costs the NHS £1.3 million every day.
There are two types of pain; Acute or Fast pain, this is a protective event that enables the organism to
localise pain rapidly and accurately and withdraw from a stimulus to reduce further damage . The
second type of pain is Chronic, this is commonly triggered by an injury or disease, but may be
perpetuated by factors other than the cause of pain. The injury may exceed the body s capability for
healing. One will be diagnosed with chronic pain if the pain continues 3 months after normal healing
time for the injury at hand. Pain occurs due to four processes, Transduction, Transmission, Modulation
and finally Perception. For pain to be felt all four processes must occur in synchronisation. Pain can

For Rome the Pax Romana was an unprecedented time in history. For once there was relative peace in
the empire, for the rich at least. While there was peace from enemy invaders there was internal
conflict where the poor were being brutalized by the government and the rich, making Rome a hotbed
for political activity. Jesus Christ did not set out to create a new religion, or to even challenge Roman
authority but that is what he did and for that he was executed. Jesus execution inadvertently created
the branch of religion we know as Christianity which would be Rome s greatest internal threat. At the
time of Jesus birth Rome was going through a time of great peace called the Pax Romana , or Roman
Peace. This Pax Romana, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This could explain why a man, Jesus, was feared when he started to challenge the status quot. Jesus
did not set out to create a new religion, he set out to fix what he saw wrong with Judaism at the time.
Jesus moved his teachings from Herod s land, who was a puppet of Rome, to Pontius Pilate s lands,
who was a direct Roman ruler, around the time of the Jewish holiday Passover. Religion and politics
often intertwined under Rome which made Passover a very politically and religiously charged event;
Jesus of Nazareth arrives to this event preaching of a coming Kingdom of God which was the
equivalent of shouting fire in a crowded room (Video Part I). At this point, to most people, Jesus
sounds like an Essen, one who preached of a coming apocalypse, and the crowd is understandably
getting antsy. In addition to the preaching Jesus did, he also stormed into the Temple and overturned
vendor s tables, driving them out from the house of worship. Seeing that religion and politics were so
closely intertwined, Pontius Pilate saw this as an attack aimed towards the Roman Empire, which was
treason. Judaism was not an official state religion of Rome at the time so the Romans tolerated the
Jews, they didn t necessarily condone

Levi Roots Essay
How does Levi Roots use language to sell his product to the dragons?
Levi Roots uses spoken language devices to persuade the dragons to invest in his product. He uses a
variety of spoken language techniques such as pausing, overlapping, turn taking and accent in order to
persuade the dragons. The dragons respond in a warm way, and join in the humour Levi creates
throughout the interview; this suggests that Levi root was successful in persuading the dragons. His
use of language also sets mood and tone in different situations throughout the interview.
As Levi enters the room, he starts to sing a song. This catches the dragon s attention as they have
never been welcomed in such way before. This suggests that they are amused and are ... Show more

Levi s varies his choices of words and phrases to persuade them.
I don t see me would have... this is an example of Levi s Jamaican dialect; his spoken language does
not suit the context or the situation he is in, but he is able to control it by creating bond with the
dragons, through humour. You ve just you ve just lost so much credibility, this shows that Levi has
achieved to create a bond with them as Duncan Bannatyne joins in the humorous tone and is mirroring
Levi.
Oh dear (.) right, stated by Theo Paphitis, he has become more serious and has returned to his formal
tone suggesting that he is ready to talk business with Levi Roots. Realizing that Roots himself can t
create anymore humour, he changes the way he speaks to make a more formal way and tries to do his
best to convince the dragons that he is a good businessman. However he starts to overlap and pause
more often than he did before at the start of the interaction, this shows that he is hesitating and is
nervous as he does not want to say something he shouldn t. It also suggests that he cares in what he
has to say, and wants to be seen as a confident, businessman who wants to sell his product.

growing evidence has shown that uncontrolled glial activation and neuroinflammation may contribute

Apart from these classic hallmarks, increasing evidence has demonstrated uncontrolled glial activation
and neuroinflammation in AD brain may contribute independently to neural dysfunction and cell death
(Akiyama et al., 2000; Wyss Coray and Mucke, 2002). Robust activation of microglia has been found
in and around the area of amyloid plaques in the AD brain, and reactive astrocytes have been shown to
form a halo surrounding the amyloid plaques (Itagaki et al., 1989; Ho et al., 2005). Additionally,
numerous proinflammatory factors have been reported to be elevated in both patients with AD and
transgenic animal models of AD (Griffin et al., 1989; Akiyama et al., 2000; Ruan et al., 2009).
Whether alleviation of neuroinflammation will offer therapeutic benefit for AD remains unclear.
Epidemiological studies show a possible association between suppression of inflammation and
reduced risk for AD (in t Veld et al., 2001; Vlad et al., 2008). Therefore, drugs targeting
neuroinflammation might provide benefits for the prevention and treatment of this devastating disease.
In the central nervous system, microglia and astrocytes are the major type of glial cells, and activation
of these cells has been involved in all neurodegenerative diseases (Wyss Coray and Mucke, 2002).

Foreshadowing Examples In John Steinbeck
A Composition of Arduous Imageries
The most arduous task in composing a song is neither the melody nor lyrics, but rather the buildup that
foreshadows both. For example, the song Blue Da Ba Dee by Eiffel 65 uses electronic percussion that
slowly increases in volume to foreshadow either the piano melody or the vocals. In literature,
foreshadowing is just as crucial in music as it is in literacy. An example is The Pearl by John
Steinbeck. Steinbeck uses the three imagery categories of music, dark, and light to foreshadow events
within the pages of The Pearl.
To summarize the novella, Mexico is the setting of the Pearl. A physically strong, but mentally
limited, man named Kino resides there with his wife, Juana, and his son Coyotito. They assume ...

During one morning in Steinbeck s novella, Kino and Juana hop in their canoe to look for pearls. Once
Kino thinks he has found one, light imagery shines through Kino s mind, when he believes that, In this
Gulf of uncertain light there were more illusions than realities (19). When superstition and tension
surface quickly like this, it means that the author is attempting to foreshadow something. Soon after
the mention of the illusion, Kino s family finds the pearl. Another example of foreshadowing using
light imagery is how Steinbeck pictures Juana after she realizes that the pearl is evil, And in the
firelight her lips and her eyes were alive with her fear (38). At the time, the pearl has just been nearly
stolen once, but Juana already becomes critical about the pearl s presence. Kino s steadfast refusal to
return to his old, peaceful life foreshadows an unfortunate change in Kino s personality through light
imagery. Similarly, the same light returns when the pearl is stolen again, when Steinbeck writes, And
as she spoke the light came back in Kino s eyes so that they glowed fiercely and his muscles hardened
and his will hardened (56). So, Steinbeck s light imagery foreshadows

In actively managed funds the manager tries to beat the market by selling and buying assets. Passively
managed funds consist of a large number of assets and try to by diversification to perform as well as
the market. The passively managed funds are much cheaper as they require less work and transactions.
This research tries to address the problem from an investor s point of view, which kind of funds are
the best ones to invest in? If the active funds would constantly outperform the market the effective
market hypothesis should be questioned. Still there might be some funds that can beat the market due
to luck or skill of the fund manager. There is evidence going both ways depending time period or

Most of the investments made by private investors in Finland are made via local banks, like in the rest
of Europe. The Finnish banks charge high expenses in comparison to other banks for managing a

Introduction to SARS

its transmission through close contact with anyone who has SARS. Studies concluded that it was ...

Although the manufacturing sector which contributes much of our export economy is not adversely
affected, there were some spillover effects, but these effects are not easily measured due to the
complexity of too many variables involved, the spread across a wide variety of industries and the short
period which people were quarantined and some of the productivity lost could have been replaced by
co workers putting in more effort.
Impact on Local Consumption
The drop in consumption is largely contributed by a change in the consumption habits of Singaporeans
during the SARS period. Due to the transmission pattern of SARS, compounded by the fact that the
virus can survive in the environment for up to twelve hours, anyone can be infected simply by
touching an infected surface in public areas, and use their hands to rub their nose or lips. This caused a
panic among the general public and people shunned public places, like shopping malls, restaurants,
food courts and hawker centers.
According to the Economic Survey of Singapore, published in the third quarter of 2003 by the
Ministry for Trade and Industry, businesses in retail shops and food establishments decline by as much
as 50 per cent in the months of March to May 2003. Even taxi companies are not spared, Comfort
Taxi, the largest taxi operator in Singapore reported that daily bookings

Furthermore, a number of words and phrases spoken today are derived from various Shakespearean plays. The phenomenon behind Shakespeare remains relevant in our current society; his works are an essential piece in understanding the themes of love, loss, betrayal, and tragedy. • 7. Technical Innovation, Policy Making And Industrial Strategy Recommendations While Autonomous car presents enormous potential and benefits, there is a long way to go before we achieve fully self driving automation. Going forward, there are three areas we would like to advise on: technical innovation, policy making and industrial strategy. Firstly, there have been active innovations in modular functionalities. In the technologies list below, most of them are still in the early stage of the S curve and it will take long time for the trial, testing and adoption (for example, it took almost 50 years for the complete adoption of airbags), especially when safety is the number one concern in the automobile sector. Therefore, open and continuous innovation is the essence to improve functionality, technical performance and reliability, and to address technical issues. Automatic braking: it senses an imminent distance with another vehicle or a velocity related danger and responds either by pre charging the brakes or by applying the brakes to slow the vehicle without any driver input. Electronic Stability control: a computerized technology improves vehicle s stability by detecting and minimizing skids. It automatically applies the brakes and helps to minimize a loss of control. ESC compares the driver s intended direction to the vehicles actual direction. Automatic cruise control: it keeps the car at a constant speed by taking over the throttle of the car. • 8. We Can Not Control The Passage Of Time Our divided selves and our Self s: how we betray ourselves through our design O plunge your hands in water, Plunge them in up to the wrist; Stare, stare in the basin And wonder what you ve missed. As I Walked Out One Evening, W. H. Auden We cannot control the passage of time: like water, it slips through our fingers and reminds us that we are ephemeral. If we are born into this world without our will and we leave it without our will then, alone, each of us is vulnerable and separate. Vulnerable to the external forces which influence our sense of identity and then separate from one another due to our biological parameters. As life experience accumulates these newly deposited substances sediment and float to the surface to convalesce into ideas, opinions and emotions and, as Edward de Bono puts it, is where the brain becomes mind. Even if we cannot halt the passage of time or stop the water from flowing, our actions in the present have the power to direct the stream so that once we learn to swim we are able to choose what we do with our lives. If our time is biologically limited and if we need each other, in order to be personally fulfilled, it stands to reason that we should strive for a good life for everyone, so how can we do more good? If there is a mechanism which absolves us from our responsibility to be good, what is it? The simple answer could be that we are human. But what is humanity and how does our self awareness dictate our capacity to be good? A ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The title of DeLillo s eighth novel White Noise brings forth many assumptions towards the overall meaning of the book. If one was to generally interpret the meaning, white noise is produced when sound waves are joined together creating a constant buzz. This buzz can produce a relaxing or an overwhelming feeling, depending, if it refers to a repetitive noise one is trying to avoid or perhaps noise one is trying to embrace. With this being said, DeLillo s White Noise is set in the twentieth century, and tells a story about a college professor by the name of Jack Gladney who is a professor for the Hitler Studies at College on the Hill. Throughout the novel it is evident that Jack is the main character and the narrator of the story, who experiences a constant murmur of his underlying fear of death invading his thoughts. The constant reminder of white noise causes Jack to have uncertainties that stop him from repressing death in the society around him. As a result, Jack is challenged with many obstacles as he tries to avoid, cope, and confront the thought of death while diminishing the white noise that he is trying to escape. These are the results: Type of Flour Amount of Dough in Pan (cm) How much Bread Rises (cm) Whole Wheat Flour 1.5 3.4 3.5 3.7 Rye Flour 1.5 2.3 2.3 2.4 All Purpose Flour 1.5 5.4 5.6 5.6 Tapioca Flour 1.5 6.5 6.4 6.5 The results showed that the tapioca flour made the bread rise the most. Although tapioca flour has no gluten in it, it is often combined with a different type of flour. In this experiment it is combined with rice flour. Rice flour is also gluten free, so it is combined with baking soda and baking powder. The baking soda and baking powder are the binding agents in this recipe. If there is no binding agent in a gluten free bread then the bread will not be elastic. The reason tapioca flour rises the most is mainly because of the baking powder. Another binding agent in this recipe are the eggs. Since eggs have protein in them it will help to make the bread elastic. If you use to much baking powder then the bread will break. On the other hand if you do not use enough baking powder the bread will not rise that much at all. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 27. Scapegoat Research Paper A scapegoat is someone or something that receives all the blame for when something goes wrong. Scapegoats have been humanity s way of pointing the finger and ignoring any wrongdoing that may have led to a failure. No one ever wants to take responsibility when a failure occurs, but there s always someone around to take the glory if success is achieved. Historically speaking, scapegoats were more of a reason people used to do bad things. Hitler, for instance, used the Jewish religion and people who practiced it in his country as his scapegoat for trying to achieve domination. No one wants to gain the responsibility and criticism that comes with failure, but appointing a scapegoat seems to be the easy way of dealing with it. In ancient societies, scapegoats were very popular and there were even specific animals and people who would be sacrificed if something went wrong. I think that was done more as part of religious practice, but the idea of a scapegoat taking the blame still stands. The people would most likely have been criminals or problematic people in the society and who would easily be accepted as a scapegoat for any failures experienced. • 28. Beethoven Op-2 Essay In the first movement of Beethoven s Piano Sonata No. 1 in F Minor, op. 2, the composer draws on a variety of stylistic strands that contributed to the evolution of the mature classical style. Through an analysis of specific musical elements, which include references to form and style, structure, harmony, thematic material, dynamics and textural considerations, I will show how Beethoven adheres to the formal and stylistic conventions associated with the sonata during this period, as well as how he asserted his own voice, creating his own Beethovenian style. Beethoven makes use of a multitude of styles throughout the exposition, moving from style galant to Sturm und Drang and ending in empfandsamer. The primary theme in mm. 1 8 exemplifies the qualities of style galant. Beethoven uses a two measure long motive repeatedly in the right hand and block chords in the left. The dominant right hand melody with chordal accompaniment in the left is an indicator for style galant. In m. 9 he begins the transition away from F minor, and arrives at A flat Major in m. 20. As he introduces new material in mm. 15 19, Beethoven continues to use these qualities. After the transition comes the secondary theme in m. 20. The secondary theme displays a legato lyrical ascending pattern with chromatic points, varying drastically from the much more detached melody in the first primary theme. The secondary theme starts at piano like the first theme, but varies its dynamics with forzandos on beat ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Essay on Parallelism of Satan and Eve in John Milton´s... In John Milton s Paradise Lost, the parallelism between Satan and Eve s fall is strong in that they were once both the highest before pure perfection. Lucifer is associated with evil, which stems from his free will leading to his rebellion against God and, ultimately, his great fall. He is known as the one who introduces sin to Adam and Eve the first humans to ever exist. His plan to go against God is the beginning of a whole new world to the universe and a whole new significance of himself as the one known for human error and evil. Eve, the mother of human race, is Satan s target to pull her down to his world of sin because she also wishes to become independent of Adam making her susceptible to anything that can separate her from ... However, craving independence from God ferociously backfires on Satan when he finds out that even after leaving hell, he cannot escape it, which way [he] [flies] is Hell, [he] [himself] is Hell, (IV, 75). Satan finds his way to revolt against and separate from God to overrule Heaven and become king, instead however, he takes on the role of the representation of all evil which is evidently seen in his interactions with Eve. Eve s hunger to become independent from Adam and all she is commanded to do is similar to Satan s situation in that their yearn for power and singular identity lead them to revolt against their creator. Her desire to separate from Adam is first seen when she is introduced to the audience in her state of narcissism. She sees a reflection of herself in a pond and is in awe of her beauty of sympathy and love, (IV, 465) which shows the parallelism to Satan s own arrogant vanity. He catches on to this similarity they share and decides she will be an easy target of persuasion. He quickly takes charge and plans how he will lead her to eat the apple from the Tree of Knowledge, which is the only tree that God prohibited to pick fruit from. Demand and supply are the quantity of a good or service that consumers and producers are willing able to purchase and produce at a given price in a given time period. Religion and politics often intertwined under Rome which made Passover a very politically and religiously charged event; Jesus of Nazareth arrives to this event preaching of a coming Kingdom of God which was the equivalent of shouting fire in a crowded room (Video Part I). At this point, to most people, Jesus sounds like an Essen, one who preached of a coming apocalypse, and the crowd is understandably getting antsy. In addition to the preaching Jesus did, he also stormed into the Temple and overturned vendor s tables, driving them out from the house of worship. Apart from these classic hallmarks, increasing evidence has demonstrated uncontrolled glial activation and neuroinflammation in AD brain may contribute independently to neural dysfunction and cell death (Akiyama et al., 2000; Wyss Coray and Mucke, 2002). Robust activation of microglia has been found in and around the area of amyloid plaques in the AD brain, and reactive astrocytes have been shown to form a halo surrounding the amyloid plaques (Itagaki et al., 1989; Ho et al., 2005). Additionally, numerous proinflammatory factors have been reported to be elevated in both patients with AD and transgenic animal models of AD (Griffin et al., 1989; Akiyama et al., 2000; Ruan et al., 2009). Whether alleviation of neuroinflammation will offer therapeutic benefit for AD remains unclear. Epidemiological studies show a possible association between suppression of inflammation and reduced risk for AD (in t Veld et al., 2001; Vlad et al., 2008). Foreshadowing Examples In John Steinbeck A Composition of Arduous Imageries The most arduous task in composing a song is neither the melody nor lyrics, but rather the buildup that foreshadows both. For example, the song Blue Da Ba Dee by Eiffel 65 uses electronic percussion that slowly increases in volume to foreshadow either the piano melody or the vocals. In literature, foreshadowing is just as crucial in music as it is in literacy. An example is The Pearl by John Steinbeck. Steinbeck uses the three imagery categories of music, dark, and light to foreshadow events within the pages of The Pearl. To summarize the novella, Mexico is the setting of the Pearl. Once Kino thinks he has found one, light imagery shines through Kino s mind, when he believes that, In this Gulf of uncertain light there were more illusions than realities (19). When superstition and tension surface quickly like this, it means that the author is attempting to foreshadow something. Soon after the mention of the illusion, Kino s family finds the pearl. Another example of foreshadowing using light imagery is how Steinbeck pictures Juana after she realizes that the pearl is evil, And in the firelight her lips and her eyes were alive with her fear (38). At the time, the pearl has just been nearly stolen once, but Juana already becomes critical about the pearl s presence. Kino s steadfast refusal to return to his old, peaceful life foreshadows an unfortunate change in Kino s personality through light imagery. Similarly, the same light returns when the pearl is stolen again, when Steinbeck writes, And as she spoke the light came back in Kino s eyes so that they glowed fiercely and his muscles hardened and his will hardened (56).
