Responsive Classroom Management Strategies Hopes and Dreams Basic Rules Modeling  Teacher Language Transitions Energizers Grouping Strategies Morning Meeting
Hopes & Dreams Students name their hopes and dreams.  The children and teacher then use these hopes and dreams to create rules for the class to live by.

Rule Creation Brainstorm with students on what they need to make a productive, calm classroom where everyone feels safe and people and classroom resources are respected and their hopes and dreams can be realized You may include your non-negotiables! Categorize rules and post them Model what the rules look, sound and feel like Periodically review rules NEVER assume, the students should know them by now!
Modeling & Role Playing All rules and procedures are extensively modeled  First teacher models Provide structure role playing  so students can practice and give explicit feedback to them NEVER model what they are not supposed to do NEVER assume that students should know how to do things by now.

Transitions What will do when students enter the room? How will you collect homework? How will you pass out materials? How will you collect materials? How will you get student’s attention? How will you end the class?
Teacher Language Use words and tone as a tool to promote children's active learning, sense of community, and self-discipline
Teacher Language Be direct and authentic Use a gentle, warm neutral tone Show faith in children’s abilities and intentions Keep it action oriented Keep it brief Know when to be silent

Avoid Statements that make you the person that needs to be pleased General statements Paraphrasing students after each comment to give it validity (let students do that for each other) ,[object Object],[object Object]
ENERGIZERS Energizers are activities you can use with students to break up the class, get the blood flowing into the brain. Use when students seem lethargic Build them into logical breaks during the class period
Morning Meeting Morning Message Written (ready before students come in, may be interactive) Greeting Share Activity Morning Message read out loud AT NWIS you may want to include a daily reciting of the Mission Statement

  • 3. Hopes & Dreams Students name their hopes and dreams. The children and teacher then use these hopes and dreams to create rules for the class to live by.
  • 6. Rule Creation Brainstorm with students on what they need to make a productive, calm classroom where everyone feels safe and people and classroom resources are respected and their hopes and dreams can be realized You may include your non-negotiables! Categorize rules and post them Model what the rules look, sound and feel like Periodically review rules NEVER assume, the students should know them by now!

Modeling & Role Playing All rules and procedures are extensively modeled First teacher models Provide structure role playing so students can practice and give explicit feedback to them NEVER model what they are not supposed to do NEVER assume that students should know how to do things by now.
