21. TASIS Elementary School opened its doors as the first English-language
elementary school in Ticino, Switzerland. The school has an international mix of

boarding school in Europe and known for excellence in education

state, India.
23. First grade student joined the Reading Education Assistance Dogs
program at Golden Hill Elementary School.

Jalalabad during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
25. Second-graders at Oasis Elementary School line up with language arts books. A
letter from authors to President Obama says: "Our public school students spend
far too much time preparing for reading tests and too little time curling up with
books that fire their imaginations”
26. 2011 was the first year for a camp in Béléhédé, Burkina Faso, Africa where the
village library opened. 4th grade students were able to participate in the camp,
where they received t-shirts and daily breakfasts and lunches. Each day was
filled with activities geared toward helping them improve literacy skills for the
upcoming school year.

face in Afghanistan.
