Objectives of five you plans ,[object Object]
Strengthening of medical and basic health services by establishing district health units, primary health centres and sub centres.
Population control.
Development of health manpower resources and research.
Development of indigenous system of medicine.
Improvement of environmental sanitation.

To build up health services for rural population and for mothers and children in order to improve general health status of people.,[object Object]
Budget  Total budget- Rs.2,356 crores. Health related activities- Rs. 140 crores. That is 5.9 % of total budget.
The second five-year plan ( 1956 – 1961) The Aim: ,[object Object]
To promote progressive of improvement of nations health.,[object Object]
Budget  For health and family welfare- Rs. 225 crores, that is about 5% of the total budget.
The third five-year plan ( 1961 – 1966) The Aim: - To improve the institutional facilities in rural areas. ,[object Object]
To promote the supply of safe drinking water and drainage facilities in rural areas and urban areas.,[object Object]
Expansion of institutional facilities to promote accessibility especially in rural areas.
Eradication of malaria and smallpox and control of various other communicable diseases.
Family planning and other supporting services for improving health status of people.

The year 1967 (annual plan) A committee was set up on small family norm to recommend suitable incentives for those accepting small family norm and practicing family planning. The Central Council of health recommended compulsory payment by patients attending hospital.
The year 1968 ( annual plan) A medical education committee was appointed. A bill on registration of births and deaths was passed by the Parliament.
The fourth five year plan ( 1969 – 1974) The Aim:  ,[object Object]

The fifth five-year plan( 1974-1979) The Aim: - To provide minimum level of well integrated health, MCH and FP, nutrition and immunisation services to all the people with special reference to vulnerable groups especially children, pregnant women, nursing mothers through a network of infrastructure in all the blocks and well structured referal systems.
  • 26. The priorities Increasing accessibility of health services in rural areas. Correcting regional imbalances. Further development of a referral services by removing deficiencies in district and subdivision hospitals. Integration of health, family planning and nutrition
  • 27. Continued…. Intensification of the control and eradication of communicable diseases especially malaria and smallpox. Quiet debut improvement in the education and training of health personnel.Budget For health programmes Rs 682 crores. For family planning programmes Rs. 497 crores. Total budget Rs. 37,382 crores.
  • 28. The sixth five-year plan (1980-1985) The Aim: - To work out alternative strategy and plan of action for primary health care as part of National health systems, which is accessible to all sections of society and especially those living in tribal, hilly, remote rural areas and urban slums.
  • 29. The priorities Rural health services. Control of communicable and other diseases. Development of approval and urban hospitals and dispensaries. Improvement in medical education and training. Medical research. Drug control and prevention of food adulteration.
  • 30. Continued.. Population control and family welfare including MCH. Water supply and sanitation. Nutrition.Budget For health programmes Rs. 1,821.05 crores. For family welfare programmes Rs. 1,010 crores. Total budget Rs. 97,500 crores.
