Curriculum
CAMBRIDGE
CAMBRIDGE: Primary
Cambridge International primary programme
Cambridge programmes and qualifications are designed to support learners in becoming:
 Confident in working with information and ideas – their own and those of others.
 Responsible for themselves, responsive to and respectful of others.
 Reflective as learners, developing their ability to learn.
 Innovative and equipped for new and future challenges.
 Engaged intellectually and socially, ready to make a difference
A strong base in English, Mathematics, Technology and Science forms the focus of education at
CHIREC.
The demands of living and working in a contemporary world, characterized by uncertainty,
globalization, rapid change and technological innovation, successful students must adapt to
these changes.
Our programme helps children become confident, responsible, reflective, innovative and
engaged learners.
The curriculum framework of Cambridge International Examinations develops Mathematics,
English and Science skills in each student. We have added the Language and Social Studies
components from the national curricula.
Assessment:
 Assessment is informal and designed to identify learner’s strengths and weaknesses
 Objective-based reports are given periodically to provide detailed feedback
 Progression Tests and Cambridge Checkpoint Exam is optional for students who desire
internationally-benchmarked assessments
 Progression Exams are summative assessments held at the end of each term.
 Cambridge Checkpoint Exam is optional for students who desire internationally benchmarked
assessments.
Cambridge Secondary
Cambridge secondary is typically for learners aged 11 to 18 years. It gives a flexible framework
for developing skills and understanding all subjects. CHIREC’s Cambridge classrooms are filled
with dynamic group discussions, project-based activities and brainstorming sessions. By
engaging students in active dialogue, teachers are able to promote self-expression, creativity,
problem solving and integrate themes into a broader context.
Cambridge Secondary 1 comprises stages 6 to 8. It develops learners’ skills and understanding
in Mathematics, English and Science for the first three years of secondary education and
provides excellent preparation for Cambridge Secondary 2.
 The ICT program develops key skills in Mathematics, Information and Communication
Technology.
 A wide range of teaching and learning resources aid the planning and delivery of the
programme. These include curriculum framework, and schemes of work.
 Stages 6 to 8 are offered the core subjects English, Mathematics and Science from Cambridge,
along with Social Studies and a second language.
 The three second languages offered are Hindi, Spanish and French. Students can opt for either
one.e two second languages offered are Hindi and French. Students can opt for either one
In stage 8, the Cambridge curriculum is capped with an International benchmarked exam called
Cambridge Checkpoint.
In Cambridge Secondary 2, the focus gradually shifts towards academics. The two-year
programme, Stages 9 and 10 culminates in the popular IGCSE (International General Certificate
of Secondary Education) examination of Cambridge International, UK. The Cambridge
Secondary 2 curriculum places emphasis on broad and balanced study across a wide range of
subjects. It develops learners’ skills in creative thinking, enquiry and problem solving and is
structured so that learners attain both practical skills and theoretical knowledge.
CHIREC offers ICE [International Cambridge of Education] award. It is a group award awarded to
students who opt for subjects from all the five curriculum areas.
CBSE
CBSE-PRIMARY
The CHIREC Integrated Curriculum (IC)
IC is a customised primary years programme, developed to incorporate the best practices from
National and International curricula. With IC, a student is suitably equipped to choose between
pursuing Cambridge and CBSE curricula at the end of Grade V.
This informal programme is within the curricular framework, and is designed to ensure that
students get ample opportunities to enjoy the experiences childhood has to offer. The
programme is supplemented with in-house activity booklets, and teaching and learning
resources, which provide an environment that is both challenging and encouraging.
Secondary:Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE)
CBSE is one of the most sought-after school Boards in India. The Board takes initiatives to keep
it upgraded with the latest trends in education, such as the Continuous Comprehensive
Evaluation (CCE). The main aim of CCE is to evaluate the child not only in scholastic areas, but
also in co-scholastic areas like Life Skills, Attitudes, Values, Work and Art, Education, etc.
Assessment: The evaluation of performance is continuous and comprehensive. Assessment
involves two components – Formative and Summative. Formative Assessment comprises
evaluation for all necessary skills, through class works, assignments, projects, etc. Summative
Assessments are written examinations, held at the end of each term.
Classes VI -X
Formative Assessment 40% of the total percentage
Summative Assessments 60% of the total percentage
Students are awarded grades, instead of marks, as in compliance with the guidelines from CBSE.
At the end of Class X, children have an option of choosing between AISSCE of CBSE, A Levels of
Cambridge University, and IBDP.
Senior Secondary
All-India Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (CBSE): Over the past five decades, CBSE has
firmly established itself as a benchmark across national curricula. The scope and thoroughness
of the academic streams like Science and Commerce continue to give students a head start in
higher education. While it is globally recognised, it is the programme of choice for students
wishing to appear for the common entrance examinations of India. In 2012, four students were
placed among the top 1% of students across the country and were offered scholarships for
higher education under the INSPIRE program. CHIREC offers two streams of study at this level –
Science and Commerce.
IB International Baccalaureate
IB: International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme at CHIREC
IBDP is an international curriculum that has gained a reputation of excellence in standards. A
distinguishing characteristic of the Diploma Programme is that it concerns itself with the whole
educational experience of students. The curriculum framework, and the supporting structures
and principles, are designed to ensure that each student is exposed to a broad and balanced
curriculum.
IB Learner Profile:
 The IB Learner Profile is the IB mission statement translated into a set of learning outcomes
 The aim of all IB Programmes is to develop internationally-minded people who, recognising
their common humanity and shared guardianship of the planet, help to create a better and
more peaceful world (IB, 2006)
The learner profile and the core are positioned at the centre of the programme, reflecting the
priority given to affective as well as cognitive dispositions. It also aims to develop competent
and active citizens, as well as subject specialists. IB Diploma students study six subjects
concurrently, where one subject has to be chosen from each group. The core requirements of
Theory of Knowledge (TOK); Extended Essay; and Creativity, Action, Service (CAS); broaden the
educational experience and challenge students to apply their knowledge and understanding in
real-life contexts.
 Theory of knowledge (TOK) is designed to encourage each student to reflect on the nature of
knowledge, by critically examining different ways of knowing (perception, emotion, language and
reason), and different kinds of knowledge (scientific, artistic, mathematical and historical)
 Extended Essay is a requirement for students to engage in independent research through an in-
depth study of a question relating to one of the subjects they are studying
 Creativity, Action and Service (CAS) requires students to actively learn from the experience of
doing real tasks beyond the classroom.
 Students can combine all three components or do activities related to each one of them
separately.
 Students must choose one subject from each of Groups 1 to 5, thus ensuring breadth of
experience in the Languages, Social Studies, Experimental Sciences and Mathematics.
The sixth may be an Arts subject chosen from Group 6, or the student may choose
another subject from Groups 1 to 5. To be eligible for the IB Diploma, each student is
required to follow six IB courses, with one subject taken from each group in the
curriculum model.
International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme at CHIREC
Life in the 21st century requires critical-thinking skills and a sense of international-mindedness.
The IB Diploma Programme is designed to be academically challenging and balanced, with final
examinations that prepare High School students for success at university and beyond. The
programme is taught over two years, and is recognised and respected by leading universities in
India and around the world.
International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme at CHIREC
Students must choose:
 Three courses at Higher Level (HL): These courses require intensive study leading to mastery.
They are covered over 240 hours
 Three courses at Standard Level (SL): These courses require rigorous study leading to mastery.
They are covered over 150 hours
In addition, all IB Diploma students must complete:
 A course in the Theory of Knowledge (TOK)
 A 4000-word Extended Essay in a subject of their choice
 A Creativity, Action, & Service (CAS) programme
Assessment:
 Students take written examinations at the end of the programme, which are marked by external
IB examiners
 Students also complete assessment tasks in the schools, which are either initially marked by
teachers and then moderated by external moderators, or sent directly to external examiners
 The Diploma is awarded to students who gain at least 24 points
 The highest total that a Diploma Programme student can be awarded is 45 points
