TRENDS IN INTERIOR DESIGN

INTRODUCTION
• Interior decoration is both an art and hobby.
• Interior decoration expresses the personality of the householder.
• Lighting, Furniture ,Flower, Color schemes arrangement are come under interior
design.
FURNITURE:
• Furniture is needed for various household activities.
• Furniture arrangement is based on two elements.,ie.,Design and Function.
• It also based on Principles of design.
SELECTION OF FURNITURE
• Durability
• Cost
• Material
• Construction
• Maintenance
• Comfort and Functionalism
DURATION:
• Polymer and plastic furniture are durable.
• Wood like teak,deodar,rosewood are more durable.
• Durability depends upon maintenance,polishing and finishing.
• Nowadays,iron furniture with upholstered seats have more durability.
COST:
• Upholstered furniture - costly than cane or metal furniture.
• Cost comparison make, reputation of its durability determine its price.
MATERIAL:
• The material mainly used is wood. It has natural look.
• The quality and the polish should be of high degree.
• Poor finishing may have scratches and rough surface.
• Material like Metals,Plastic, polymers,glass,cane and bamboo.
CONSTRUCTION:
• Quality of the wood should be used.
• Sliding movement and joints should be examined.
• Finishes should be checked.
• Furniture should be strong and broad.
• Good construction of furniture make comfortable.
MAINTENANCE:
• Maintenance is essential for durability and beauty.
• It should be dust free, regular cleaning.
• Varnish done on wooden furniture.
• Wax polish done on plastics and polymers.
COMFORT AND FUNCTIONALISM:
• It is examined together to increase the work efficiency.
• Furniture should be simple and functional,intricated designs hamper the work
efficiency.
ACCESSORIES:
• Home decoration is incomplete without accessories.
• Accessories should not only represent interest and tastes.
• They should also represent unity of room.
• There are two types of accessories:
1.Functional accessories
2.Decorative accessories
FUNCTIONAL ACCESSORIES:
• Accessories should first of all be useful.
• In all accessories,lines,shape,colour and texture should harmonize.
• Lamps should provide adequate light where it is needed.
• Clocks must keep time and easy to read.
LAMPS:
• Varies of lamps available which makes it possible to find useful lamps
• Selection of lamps should be suitable to any type of room.
• Reflector bulbs used to highlight the amount of light reflected.
• Diffused bulbs used to avoid glare falling on eyes.
CLOCK:
• A clock can become a part of wall.
• It can be beautifully matched with the rest of the furniture.
• Clocks come in a wide variety of colours and shapes, sizes and material.
DECORATIVE ACCESSORIES:
• Decorative accessories add interest in the decorator in the interior decoration.
• Selects a combination and arrangement that is pleasing to eyes.
• Decorative accessories are mirrors, pictures,books,wood carving and pottery.
PICTURES:
• Pictures add to the personality of room.
• Colour and textures of the picture should harmonize.
• Size and shape of picture must relate to the wall area.
MIRRORS
• It increase the apparent spaciousness of an area.
• Essential in bathroom and dressing room.
• Plate glass mirrors are more expensive than the window glass.
BOOKS:
• Books are arranged in the shelves.
• It give an elegant look.
• Books are arranged according to size in shelf.
• Pottery,carved book ends are used to break monotony.
METAL WORK:
• Wall plaques,paper cutter and goddess are used in the room as decorative
purposes.
• Flower vases,bells and candle stands are made of lustrous silver and gold inlay
done.
WOOD CARVING:
• Rosewood and sandalwood is used in making decorative things.
• In Kashmir,Walnut wood is used to carve beautiful designs.
POTTERY:
• In Rajasthan, blue and turquoise glaze with cobalt are popular.
• Black pottery are famous in the north.
• In Bengal and Maharashtra, Terracotta work are popular.
BASKETRY:
• Bamboo,cane,grass, coconut leaves and date palm are used to make baskets,
furniture, toys,etc..
• It is mostly found in Assam,West Bengal,Bihar, Orissa and Tamilnadu.
LIGHTING:
• Interior home lighting design is a proper lighting is an important
element of decorating home design.
• It is playing functional role it creates a visually dynamic space.
• Placement and types are important aspect of interior home lighting
design, and they work in conjunction with colour selection, room
size, availability of natural light and furniture selection.
TYPES OF LIGHTING
There are three types of home lighting :
• Ambient Home Lighting
• Accent Home Lighting
• Task Home Lighting
AMBIENT LIGHTING:
• It is a general lighting.
• Its natural lights from the windows.
• Lighting is the substitute for natural lights.
ACCENT LIGHTING:
• Accent home lighting is the architectural features of home likes the wall and
objects of the room.
• Accent lighting can be implemented to the project and show of the piece of art or
a photograph.
TASK LIGHTING:
• These light are used in industries where employe at work for a long time in a
computer.
• Task lighting is important in which performing the specific task, like a reading,
doing homework and ready in the bathroom.

  • 2. INTRODUCTION • Interior decoration is both an art and hobby. • Interior decoration expresses the personality of the householder. • Lighting, Furniture ,Flower, Color schemes arrangement are come under interior design.
  • 3. FURNITURE: • Furniture is needed for various household activities. • Furniture arrangement is based on two elements.,ie.,Design and Function. • It also based on Principles of design.
  • 4. SELECTION OF FURNITURE • Durability • Cost • Material • Construction • Maintenance • Comfort and Functionalism
  • 5. DURATION: • Polymer and plastic furniture are durable. • Wood like teak,deodar,rosewood are more durable. • Durability depends upon maintenance,polishing and finishing. • Nowadays,iron furniture with upholstered seats have more durability.
  • 6. COST: • Upholstered furniture - costly than cane or metal furniture. • Cost comparison make, reputation of its durability determine its price.
  • 7. MATERIAL: • The material mainly used is wood. It has natural look. • The quality and the polish should be of high degree. • Poor finishing may have scratches and rough surface. • Material like Metals,Plastic, polymers,glass,cane and bamboo.
  • 8. CONSTRUCTION: • Quality of the wood should be used. • Sliding movement and joints should be examined. • Finishes should be checked. • Furniture should be strong and broad. • Good construction of furniture make comfortable.
  • 9. MAINTENANCE: • Maintenance is essential for durability and beauty. • It should be dust free, regular cleaning. • Varnish done on wooden furniture. • Wax polish done on plastics and polymers.
  • 10. COMFORT AND FUNCTIONALISM: • It is examined together to increase the work efficiency. • Furniture should be simple and functional,intricated designs hamper the work efficiency.
  • 11. ACCESSORIES: • Home decoration is incomplete without accessories. • Accessories should not only represent interest and tastes. • They should also represent unity of room. • There are two types of accessories: 1.Functional accessories 2.Decorative accessories
  • 12. FUNCTIONAL ACCESSORIES: • Accessories should first of all be useful. • In all accessories,lines,shape,colour and texture should harmonize. • Lamps should provide adequate light where it is needed. • Clocks must keep time and easy to read.
  • 13. LAMPS: • Varies of lamps available which makes it possible to find useful lamps • Selection of lamps should be suitable to any type of room. • Reflector bulbs used to highlight the amount of light reflected. • Diffused bulbs used to avoid glare falling on eyes.
  • 14. CLOCK: • A clock can become a part of wall. • It can be beautifully matched with the rest of the furniture. • Clocks come in a wide variety of colours and shapes, sizes and material.
  • 15. DECORATIVE ACCESSORIES: • Decorative accessories add interest in the decorator in the interior decoration. • Selects a combination and arrangement that is pleasing to eyes. • Decorative accessories are mirrors, pictures,books,wood carving and pottery.
  • 16. PICTURES: • Pictures add to the personality of room. • Colour and textures of the picture should harmonize. • Size and shape of picture must relate to the wall area.
  • 17. MIRRORS • It increase the apparent spaciousness of an area. • Essential in bathroom and dressing room. • Plate glass mirrors are more expensive than the window glass.
  • 18. BOOKS: • Books are arranged in the shelves. • It give an elegant look. • Books are arranged according to size in shelf. • Pottery,carved book ends are used to break monotony.
  • 19. METAL WORK: • Wall plaques,paper cutter and goddess are used in the room as decorative purposes. • Flower vases,bells and candle stands are made of lustrous silver and gold inlay done.
  • 20. WOOD CARVING: • Rosewood and sandalwood is used in making decorative things. • In Kashmir,Walnut wood is used to carve beautiful designs.
  • 21. POTTERY: • In Rajasthan, blue and turquoise glaze with cobalt are popular. • Black pottery are famous in the north. • In Bengal and Maharashtra, Terracotta work are popular.
  • 22. BASKETRY: • Bamboo,cane,grass, coconut leaves and date palm are used to make baskets, furniture, toys,etc.. • It is mostly found in Assam,West Bengal,Bihar, Orissa and Tamilnadu.
  • 23. LIGHTING: • Interior home lighting design is a proper lighting is an important element of decorating home design. • It is playing functional role it creates a visually dynamic space. • Placement and types are important aspect of interior home lighting design, and they work in conjunction with colour selection, room size, availability of natural light and furniture selection.
  • 24. TYPES OF LIGHTING There are three types of home lighting : • Ambient Home Lighting • Accent Home Lighting • Task Home Lighting
  • 25. AMBIENT LIGHTING: • It is a general lighting. • Its natural lights from the windows. • Lighting is the substitute for natural lights.
  • 26. ACCENT LIGHTING: • Accent home lighting is the architectural features of home likes the wall and objects of the room. • Accent lighting can be implemented to the project and show of the piece of art or a photograph.
  • 27. TASK LIGHTING: • These light are used in industries where employe at work for a long time in a computer. • Task lighting is important in which performing the specific task, like a reading, doing homework and ready in the bathroom.
