KOTA SUPER THERMAL POWER
STATION
INTRODUCTION
KSTPS is first coal based power plant in Rajasthan.
It is located ideally on the left bank of CHAMBAL
River at the upstream of KOTA BARRAGE.
Its first unit of capacity 110 MW is commisioned on 17
jan 1983 and last one on 2009.
It is one of highest power generating plant with
installed capacity of 1240 MW.

Unit 2 – 110 MW
Unit 3 – 210 MW
Unit 4 – 210 MW
Unit 5 – 210 MW
Unit 7 – 195 MW

COAL HANDLING PLANT
• 20000 tons coal requirment per day.
• The main coal sources are:
1. Coal India Ltd. (CIL)
2. South Estern Coalfield Ltd. (SECL)
3. Northern Coalfield Ltd. (NCL)
(coal comes from 1000 km distance)
• Everyday 3- 4 trains of coal are
unloaded, each train consists 58
wagons.(approx 3500-3800 tons)
• Coal is unloaded from wagons by
means of WAGON TRIPPLER
• Stock yard Capacity -5.0 lack tons
• Secondary fuel :-oil (HSD/ LDO)

SWITCHYARD
The 220 KV Switch yard is the main part of the KTPS
it has two buses arrangement with a bus coupled breaker.
There are 11 feeders connected at 220 KV switchyard

TYPES OF CIRCUITS BREAKER
MINIMUM OIL CIRCUIT BREAKER SF6 CIRCUIT BREAKER
In M.O.C.B separating contact of the
breakers are made to separate within
an insulating oil.
In SF6 separating contact of the
breakers are made to separate within
SF6 material.
ISOLATORS & ARRESTORS
• Isolators are device which disconnect the instruments
from power supply, the isolators provided at 220 KV
switchyard are motor operated.
• Lightening Arresters are used in switchyard for preventing
from Lightening phenomena and are installed at entrance
of switchyard.

  • 3. INTRODUCTION KSTPS is first coal based power plant in Rajasthan. It is located ideally on the left bank of CHAMBAL River at the upstream of KOTA BARRAGE. Its first unit of capacity 110 MW is commisioned on 17 jan 1983 and last one on 2009. It is one of highest power generating plant with installed capacity of 1240 MW.
  • 4. STAGES Unit 6 – 195 MW Unit 1 – 110 MW Unit 2 – 110 MW Unit 3 – 210 MW Unit 4 – 210 MW Unit 5 – 210 MW Unit 7 – 195 MW Stage I Stage II Stage III Stage IV Stage V DESIGN 110 + 110 + 210 + 210 + 210 + 195 +195 = 1240 MW

  • 7. COAL HANDLING PLANT • 20000 tons coal requirment per day. • The main coal sources are: 1. Coal India Ltd. (CIL) 2. South Estern Coalfield Ltd. (SECL) 3. Northern Coalfield Ltd. (NCL) (coal comes from 1000 km distance) • Everyday 3- 4 trains of coal are unloaded, each train consists 58 wagons.(approx 3500-3800 tons) • Coal is unloaded from wagons by means of WAGON TRIPPLER • Stock yard Capacity -5.0 lack tons • Secondary fuel :-oil (HSD/ LDO)

  • 13. SWITCHYARD The 220 KV Switch yard is the main part of the KTPS it has two buses arrangement with a bus coupled breaker. There are 11 feeders connected at 220 KV switchyard

  • 16. TYPES OF CIRCUITS BREAKER MINIMUM OIL CIRCUIT BREAKER SF6 CIRCUIT BREAKER In M.O.C.B separating contact of the breakers are made to separate within an insulating oil. In SF6 separating contact of the breakers are made to separate within SF6 material.
  • 17. ISOLATORS & ARRESTORS • Isolators are device which disconnect the instruments from power supply, the isolators provided at 220 KV switchyard are motor operated. • Lightening Arresters are used in switchyard for preventing from Lightening phenomena and are installed at entrance of switchyard.
  • 18. C.T. & P.T. Current Transformer Rating: • 1000/1A or 1000/5A Potential Transformer Rating: • 220KV /110 V • May be Capacitive or Inductive
