Do
  you
  think
  like
  an
  entrepreneur?

Would
  the
  lifestyle
  and
  the
  mindset
  of
  an
  entrepreneur
  serve
  as
  the
  right

path
  for
  you?

Are
  you
  meant
  for
  entrepreneurship
  and
  perhaps
  not
  even
  aware
  of
  it?

I
  admit
  being
  an
  entrepreneur
  is
  not
  the
  right
  course
  for
  everyone.

In
  fact,
  being
  an
  entrepreneur
  may
  not
  be
  the
  right
  choice
  for
  you
  at
  one
  phase

of
  your
  life
  but
  the
  ideal
  choice
  at
  another
  phase.
  Because
  not
  only
  are
  people

vastly
  different
  and
  thus
  view
  their
  work
  life
  differently,
  you
  as
  an
  individual

change
  and
  evolve
  over
  the
  course
  of
  your
  career
  years.

Yet,
  how
  many
  people
  go
  through
  an
  exercise
  of
  finding
  out
  for
  certain
  whether

it
  is
  the
  right
  course
  for
  them?

I
  know
  that
  I
  fell
  into
  it
  somewhere
  at
  the
  edge
  of
  my
  patience
  with
  my
  corporate

career,
  in
  the
  depth
  of
  my
  self-‐discovery
  and
  at
  the
  height
  of
  my
  misery.
  Funny

how
  bad
  things
  lead
  to
  good
  stuff
  in
  life,
  right?

Now
  let’s
  find
  out
  if
  entrepreneurship
  is
  right
  for,
  now
  or
  someday
  in
  your

brilliant
  future.
  Shall
  we?

From
  Corporate
  to
  Entrepreneurship

During
  the
  time
  that
  I
  was
  a
  devoted
  corporate
  employee,
  I
  could
  never
  see

myself
  as
  a
  thriving
  entrepreneur.
  The
  prospect
  did
  not
  interest
  me
  at
  all.
  The

early
  years
  of
  my
  corporate
  life
  plus
  my
  18-‐month
  experience
  with
  a
  start-‐up

were
  all
  about
  rising
  on
  the
  corporate
  ladder
  and
  the
  idea
  of
  not
  working
  for
  a

large
  Fortune
  500
  company
  and
  belonging
  to
  a
  large
  entity
  scared
  me
  to
  pieces.

It
  was
  not
  until
  the
  latter
  years
  where
  I
  began
  to
  feel
  this
  yearning
  for
  meaningful

work.
  I
  had
  so
  much
  accumulated
  unhappiness
  and
  misery
  in
  the
  corporate

environment
  that
  I
  woke
  up
  one
  day
  only
  to
  realize
  that
  I
  was
  an
  absolute
  misfit

for
  the
  corporate
  life
  in
  every
  sense
  of
  the
  word.
  Whatever
  it
  is
  I
  was
  meant
  to

do
  was
  not
  to
  be
  found
  in
  the
  corporate
  landscape.
  And
  no
  one
  is
  more
  shocked

about
  this
  discovery
  than
  yours
  truly,
  trust
  me.

Suddenly,
  almost
  overnight,
  my
  entire
  perspective
  changed.
  Years
  of
  stigma

broke
  down
  as
  quickly
  as
  a
  deck
  of
  cards
  on
  loose
  footing.
  The
  idea
  of
  creating

and
  building
  a
  business
  with
  my
  own
  two
  hands
  from
  scratch
  appealed
  to
  me
  like

a
  newly
  discovered
  taste
  that
  had
  been
  missing
  from
  the
  nourishment
  of
  my
  soul.

Entrepreneurship
  fit
  me
  like
  a
  new
  skin,
  a
  better
  one
  than
  any
  I
  had
  known.
  It

embraced
  me
  in
  all
  its
  elements,
  from
  the
  grueling
  hours
  to
  in
  the
  incredible

liberation,
  from
  the
  discipline
  and
  difficulties
  of
  doing
  things
  on
  my
  own
  to
  the

delight
  of
  earning
  money
  precisely
  the
  way
  I
  chose
  to
  do.
  I
  loved
  this
  brave
  new

world,
  despite
  all
  the
  gloom
  and
  doom
  the
  world
  will
  have
  you
  believe
  about
  the

general
  state
  of
  economy.

My
  daily
  experience
  continues
  to
  affirm
  my
  foresight
  every
  single
  day
  and
  I
  know

that
  I
  have
  finally
  arrived
  home
  in
  my
  work
  life.
  I
  was
  meant
  to
  work
  for
  myself

through
  and
  through.

What
  about
  you?

How
  would
  entrepreneurship
  fit
  your
  beliefs
  and
  your
  lifestyle?

Work
  was
  meant
  to
  be
  so
  much
  more
  than
  it
  is
  today.
  Cultures
  and
  lifestyles

have
  slowly
  diminished
  the
  idea
  of
  work
  to
  a
  singular
  means
  of
  a
  survival,
  a

meaningless
  miserable
  rat
  race
  in
  which
  we
  are
  lucky
  to
  partake
  if
  we
  have
  a
  “job

in
  this
  economy.”

But
  work
  is
  not
  just
  something
  you
  do
  to
  earn
  a
  paycheck.
  Work
  can
  define
  your

contributions
  to
  the
  world.
  Work
  can
  be
  your
  legacy
  if
  you
  put
  your
  gifts
  and

talents
  into
  it.
  Work
  can
  be
  a
  direct
  expression
  of
  your
  passions
  and
  that
  is
  for

more
  than
  just
  the
  artist,
  the
  painter
  or
  the
  musician.
  It
  is
  for
  anyone!

Work
  can
  be
  meaningful
  and
  profitable
  if
  you
  choose
  to
  believe
  so.
  My
  paradigm

shift
  started
  precisely
  when
  I
  chose
  to
  believe
  so.
  When
  will
  you
  allow
  yours
  to

start?

The
  first
  and
  most
  important
  thing
  is
  to
  truly
  understand
  the
  meaning
  of
  work

and
  the
  mindset
  of
  an
  entrepreneur.
  The
  next
  thing
  is
  to
  decide
  whether
  you

share
  in
  the
  ideals,
  the
  perspectives,
  and
  the
  general
  approach
  to
  work
  and
  to

life.

This
  can
  be
  slightly
  ironic.
  You
  see,
  entrepreneurship
  is
  an
  expression
  of
  a

creative
  and
  expressive
  mind
  that
  uses
  its
  ideas
  –
  from
  mediocre
  to
  dumb,

anywhere
  in
  the
  scale
  -‐
  to
  build
  a
  business
  or
  an
  enterprise.
  So
  what
  you
  need
  to

embrace
  in
  order
  to
  thrive
  as
  an
  entrepreneur
  is
  that
  freedom.
  It
  is
  ironic

because
  freedom
  means
  you
  can
  do
  as
  you
  please
  and
  who
  among
  us
  doesn’t

want
  to
  embrace
  freedom?

Well,
  that
  is
  exactly
  where
  our
  resistance
  comes
  in
  when
  it
  comes
  to
  our
  work
  in

this
  life.
  We
  resist
  doing
  that
  to
  which
  we
  are
  called.
  We
  ignore
  the
  inner
  voice

and
  give
  it
  a
  stern
  talking-‐to.
  We
  wall
  ourselves
  into
  a
  corner
  with
  massive

excuses
  and
  grand
  reasons
  why
  we
  cannot
  do
  what
  we
  love.

Until
  one
  day,
  we
  wake
  up
  and
  suddenly
  find
  ourselves
  empty
  and
  yearning
  still

to,
  you
  guessed
  it,
  do
  something
  we
  love.
  We
  don’t
  care
  anymore
  if
  it
  makes

money
  or
  if
  it
  can
  be
  profitable
  or
  any
  of
  that.
  We
  simply
  want
  some
  happiness

that
  we
  know
  we
  can
  get
  from
  doing
  something
  we
  love.

That
  point,
  darling,
  can
  be
  a
  bit
  too
  late
  in
  game
  for
  careful
  planning
  and
  smart

execution
  if
  you
  are
  not
  careful.
  Do
  not
  wait
  until
  your
  patience
  has
  run
  out

along
  with
  the
  best
  years
  of
  your
  life.
  Let
  us
  find
  out
  now
  whether
  you
  are
  meant

to
  take
  this
  road
  to
  entrepreneurship,
  come
  what
  may!

Even
  if
  you
  have
  never
  wondered
  how
  you
  would
  fare
  as
  an
  entrepreneur,
  I

believe
  that
  knowing
  more
  about
  the
  empowering
  idea
  of
  working
  on
  your
  own

terms
  is
  worth
  exploring.
  If
  for
  nothing
  else,
  you
  can
  rule
  it
  out
  as
  a
  possible

option
  in
  your
  career
  and
  work
  life
  next
  time
  you
  are
  ready
  for
  a
  change.

But
  can
  you
  really
  know
  your
  true
  reaction
  to
  working
  for
  yourself
  before
  actually

do
  it?

Well,
  you
  won’t
  know
  for
  a
  fact,
  but
  you
  can
  come
  pretty
  close
  to
  a
  highly

educated
  guess.

That
  is
  where
  this
  51-‐question
  guide
  comes
  in.
  It
  can
  help
  you
  get
  into
  the

mindset
  of
  an
  entrepreneur
  world.
  You
  need
  to
  decide
  if
  that
  plays
  to
  your

strengths
  and
  ideals
  about
  work
  and
  career
  and
  not
  to
  your
  weaknesses
  and
  that

is
  what
  we
  are
  going
  to
  find
  out
  together!

Definition
  of
  Entrepreneurship

You
  can
  never
  be
  too
  careful
  with
  definitions.

It
  is
  not
  unusual
  for
  the
  same
  word
  in
  our
  language
  to
  mean
  different
  things
  to

different
  people.
  We
  tend
  to
  draw
  our
  meaning
  for
  words
  from
  our
  unique

experience
  and
  exposure
  to
  them.
  Sometimes,
  the
  standard
  and
  true
  definition

even
  gets
  lost
  along
  the
  way!

I
  digress
  a
  bit
  but
  that
  is
  why
  I
  decided
  that
  it
  would
  be
  wise
  to
  define
  the
  main

word
  in
  question:
  Entrepreneurship.

Entrepreneurship:
  the
  act
  of
  someone
  organizing
  a
  business
  venture
  and

assumes
  the
  risk
  for
  it.

Entrepreneurship
  is
  the
  act
  of
  being
  an
  entrepreneur,
  which
  can
  be
  defined
  as

one
  who
  undertakes
  innovations,
  finance
  and
  business

Those
  are
  good,
  albeit
  dry,
  definitions.
  Now
  let
  me
  share
  with
  you
  my
  definition.

Entrepreneurship
  is
  much
  like
  having
  children.

First
  of
  all,
  it
  is
  not
  for
  everyone.

It
  is
  either
  the
  right
  or
  wrong
  step
  for
  you
  and
  yet,
  it
  is
  immensely
  difficult
  to

admit
  the
  latter
  to
  yourself
  or
  to
  anyone
  in
  your
  world
  once
  you’ve
  taken
  the

plunge
  in
  either
  category.

I
  mean,
  you
  don’t
  just
  admit
  children
  are
  not
  right
  for
  you.
  You
  would
  make

yourself
  come
  up
  with
  elaborate
  explanations
  as
  to
  why
  it
  is
  a
  challenge
  but
  still

a
  blessing
  or
  something
  like
  that.
  And
  if
  it
  is
  right
  for
  you,
  if
  it
  is
  what
  you
  are

meant
  to
  do,
  well
  then,
  you
  have
  the
  incredible
  experience
  of
  once-‐in-‐a-‐lifetime

opportunity
  of
  being
  a
  parent.
  And
  the
  same
  goes
  for
  entrepreneurship.

You
  see,
  much
  like
  having
  children,
  you
  fall
  in
  love
  instantly,
  completely
  and

irreversibly
  with
  working
  for
  yourself
  and
  creating
  your
  own
  business.

  always.
  Take
  a
  look
  at
  adopted
  children;
  their
  parents
  love
  them
  instantly,

deeply
  and
  truly
  despite
  the
  lack
  of
  those
  bonds.
  And
  so
  will
  you
  love
  your

business,
  your
  company,
  and
  your
  enterprise
  or
  for
  all
  intents
  and
  purposes:
  your

baby!

Just
  like
  with
  children,
  entrepreneurship
  marks
  a
  point
  of
  no
  return
  in
  your
  life.

There
  is
  no
  return
  policy
  on
  those
  little
  darlings
  once
  they
  arrive
  and
  similarly,

there
  is
  no
  going
  back
  to
  working
  for
  someone
  else
  once
  you
  have
  broken
  the

ties.

I
  mean,
  well,
  of
  course
  you
  could
  technically
  get
  a
  job
  at
  another
  place;
  however

if
  you
  were
  made
  for
  entrepreneurship
  like
  me,
  the
  mere
  thought
  of
  returning
  to

the
  workplace
  would
  not
  be
  without
  excruciating
  pain,
  heavy
  sacrifices
  and

heaps
  of
  inner
  conflict.
  It
  will
  end
  your
  fulfillment
  and
  freedom
  as
  you
  have
  come

to
  know
  and
  love
  it.

Once
  the
  bird
  is
  set
  free,
  it
  can
  never
  go
  back
  to
  even
  a
  golden
  cage,
  whatever

the
  extravagance
  and
  opulence
  may
  be.

Furthermore,
  entrepreneurship
  is
  hard,
  hard
  work,
  most
  of
  which
  goes
  very

unnoticed
  in
  the
  eyes
  of
  the
  world.
  It
  can
  cost
  a
  fortune
  to
  grow
  and
  it
  can
  cause

you
  heartbreak
  and
  disappointment
  despite
  your
  best
  efforts.

Being
  an
  entrepreneur
  can
  and
  does
  keep
  you
  up
  at
  night
  and
  yet
  you
  smile
  at

the
  whole
  world
  in
  the
  morning
  every
  time.
  It
  fills
  you
  with
  a
  sense
  of
  irrational

pride
  and
  extreme
  accomplishment,
  and
  few
  who
  are
  outside
  the
  realm
  of
  it
  can

relate
  to
  you
  and
  your
  world
  anymore
  –
  sorry,
  just
  one
  of
  the
  facts
  -‐
  but
  the
  good

news
  is
  that
  you
  start
  to
  care
  very
  little
  about
  that.
  You
  know
  you
  are
  doing

something
  special
  and
  worthwhile,
  just
  as
  you
  do
  with
  being
  a
  parent.
  You
  have

inner
  peace
  and
  that
  is
  the
  greatest
  gift
  any
  work
  can
  bring
  you.

Yet,
  it
  can
  be
  frustrating
  and
  thankless,
  brutal
  and
  challenging,
  and
  the
  return
  on

the
  investment
  may
  not
  show
  up
  for
  a
  while.
  Or
  ever.

Still,
  you
  put
  your
  heart
  and
  soul
  into
  it
  and
  do
  not
  question
  your
  choice
  for
  a

second.

Remember
  what

  to
  you
  and
  what
  values
  you
  hold
  near

  Also,
  a

  does
  not
  necessarily
  translate
  to
  a

Print

  you

sure
  how
  to
  answer
  a
  particular
  question,
  just
  come
  back
  to
  it.

Last
  but
  not
  least,
  be
  honest
  with
  yourself,
  go

Now
  that
  you
  have
  taken
  the
  questionnaire,
  what
  do
  you
  do
  with
  the

information
  you
  have
  gained?

First,
  I
  want
  you
  to
  answer
  that
  yourself.
  How
  did
  it
  feel
  to
  go
  through
  those

questions?
  Did
  you
  come
  to
  any
  realization
  on
  your
  own
  about
  whether
  the

pursuit
  of
  your
  own
  business
  ideas
  is
  more
  or
  less
  important
  than
  before?

Think
  about
  how
  the
  questions
  made
  you
  feel
  and
  whether
  you
  could
  see

yourself
  as
  an
  entrepreneur
  someday
  in
  your
  own
  glorious
  future?

Remember
  the
  right
  answer
  is
  the
  one
  in
  your
  heart.
  No
  one
  can
  tell
  you
  whether

working
  for
  yourself
  is
  right
  or
  wrong.
  Only
  you
  know
  the
  right
  path
  for
  you.
  The

goal
  of
  these
  questions
  was
  to
  help
  you
  bring
  that
  to
  the
  surface,
  rather
  than

persuade
  you
  one
  way
  or
  another.

We
  each
  come
  to
  express
  our
  greatness
  in
  our
  own
  way.
  Remain
  true
  to
  that.

Now,
  I
  do
  have
  a
  quick
  analysis
  for
  your
  responses.

1.
  If
  you
  answered
  a
  resounding
  True
  in
  40
  to
  51
  of
  these
  questions:

Then,
  you
  would
  be
  a
  perfect
  fit
  for
  the
  world
  of
  entrepreneurship
  and
  self-‐
employment.
  Your
  mind
  works
  like
  an
  entrepreneur
  and
  you
  would
  find
  the
  work

so
  fulfilling
  that
  the
  grueling
  hours
  would
  not
  bother
  you.
  They
  will
  fuel
  and

energize
  you
  because
  the
  rewards
  align
  to
  your
  true
  values.

In
  short,
  this
  would
  be
  most
  likely
  a
  path
  that
  would
  be
  fulfilling
  and
  give
  you
  a

channel
  to
  build
  your
  ideas
  and
  turn
  your
  passions
  into
  a
  profit.

2.
  If
  you
  answered
  True
  to
  20-‐39
  of
  these
  questions:

Then,
  you
  have
  an
  interest
  in
  working
  for
  yourself
  someday
  even
  if
  it
  is
  just
  a

healthy
  curiosity.
  You
  can
  appreciate
  the
  benefits
  of
  entrepreneurship
  as

opposed
  to
  employment
  at
  a
  traditional
  job
  and
  you
  may
  even
  be
  ready
  to

pursue
  it
  someday.

However,
  there
  are
  probably
  still
  a
  few
  things
  that
  hold
  you
  back.
  Some
  of
  it
  may

be
  related
  to
  your
  personality
  and
  some
  to
  your
  work
  habits
  –
  you
  have
  adhered

  the
  idea
  of
  this
  radical
  shift

  you

a
  few
  healthy
  jitters.
  You
  are
  still
  on
  the
  fence
  and
  need
  to
  explore
  and
  research

whether
  building
  your
  business
  makes
  sense
  for
  you.
  If
  you
  are
  not
  emotionally

and
  psychologically
  committed
  to
  working
  for
  yourself,
  your
  business
  will
  suffer.

Mindset
  is
  everything
  and
  it
  is
  the
  reason
  the
  average
  person
  can
  excel
  the

brilliant
  person
  in
  business,
  because
  of
  that
  mindset
  of
  refusing
  defeat
  and

pushing
  past
  all
  points
  of
  discomfort
  and
  initial
  bouts
  of
  failure.
  Until
  you
  can

embrace
  this
  mindset,
  you
  will
  most
  likely
  be
  entertaining
  the
  idea
  of

entrepreneurship
  in
  your
  mind.
  Perhaps
  someday,
  it
  will
  be
  the
  right
  thing
  to
  do.

Just
  listen
  to
  yourself
  and
  keep
  tabs
  on
  the
  flow
  of
  those
  great
  ideas.
  You
  never

know
  what
  you
  may
  be
  ready
  to
  do
  someday!

3.
  If
  you
  answered
  True
  to
  1-‐19
  of
  these
  questions:

If
  you
  were
  shaking
  your
  head
  False
  rather
  than
  True
  most
  of
  the
  time,
  and
  came

up
  with
  a
  handful
  of
  occasions
  where
  you
  could
  relate
  to
  the
  statements,
  then

the
  mindset
  and
  approach
  of
  an
  entrepreneur
  to
  work
  may
  not
  be
  a
  good
  fit
  for

you
  at
  this
  time
  until
  you
  do
  some
  due
  diligence
  and
  explore
  your
  true
  goals
  in

business
  and
  in
  life.

A
  lot
  of
  these
  questions
  are
  feelings
  that
  start
  to
  develop
  after
  working
  for

someone
  else
  for
  a
  very
  long
  time.
  Some
  people
  are
  perfectly
  happy
  and
  they

can
  do
  great
  work
  while
  belonging
  to
  a
  corporation,
  an
  organization
  or
  another

large
  entity.
  I
  certainly
  enjoyed
  my
  own
  period
  where
  I
  felt
  that
  I
  could
  belong

and
  do
  very
  good
  work.
  If
  you
  feel
  that
  way
  about
  your
  work,
  then
  working
  for

yourself
  will
  likely
  not
  set
  you
  up
  for
  success
  as
  you
  would
  be
  missing
  many

benefits
  that
  employment
  provides.

It
  is
  really
  important
  to
  carefully
  examine
  what
  you
  want
  to
  get
  out
  of
  your
  work

life
  even
  if
  self-‐employment
  does
  not
  bode
  well
  for
  you.
  This
  is
  an
  exercise
  in

self-‐discovery.
  What
  is
  it
  that
  you
  love
  to
  do
  and
  how
  can
  you
  do
  that
  and
  still

make
  a
  profit
  at
  it?
  Perhaps
  working
  in
  the
  right
  company
  or
  organization
  or

small
  entity
  will
  be
  the
  answer
  for
  you.
  Keep
  asking
  questions
  until
  you
  can
  arrive

at
  the
  right
  answer
  for
  you.

My
  greatest
  hope
  is
  that
  this
  guide
  brought
  you
  some
  awareness
  and
  clarity.

Sometimes,
  the
  ultimate
  answer
  may
  still
  not
  be
  as
  clear
  as
  we
  would
  like
  it
  to
  be,

but
  we
  have
  more
  information,
  we
  have
  learned
  something
  about
  ourselves
  and

that
  is
  going
  to
  bring
  us
  to
  the
  right
  answer
  sooner
  than
  later.
  And
  I
  sincerely

hope
  that
  I
  have
  gently
  stirred
  your
  mind
  with
  deep
  questions
  and
  a
  desire

  for
  the
  right

The
  greatest
  thing
  you
  can
  do
  is
  allowing
  yourself
  to
  be
  in
  a
  position
  where
  you

can
  thrive
  and
  reach
  your

  whether
  that
  is
  entrepreneurship
  or

any
  other
  type
  of
  business
  and
  work.

I
  want
  to
  wish
  you
  tremendous
  success.
  Remember
  that
  working
  with
  a
  career

and
  business
  coach
  can
  help
  you
  make
  tremendous
  leaps
  in
  these
  areas
  by

removing
  resistance
  and
  blockage
  and
  helping
  you
  to
  think
  clearly
  about
  all
  the

options
  before
  you.

Do  you  think  like  an  entrepreneur?     Would  the  lifestyle  and  the  mindset  of  an  entrepreneur  serve  as  the  right     path  for  you?     Are  you  meant  for  entrepreneurship  and  perhaps  not  even  aware  of  it?     I  admit  being  an  entrepreneur  is  not  the  right  course  for  everyone.       In  fact,  being  an  entrepreneur  may  not  be  the  right  choice  for  you  at  one  phase   of  your  life  but  the  ideal  choice  at  another  phase.  Because  not  only  are  people   vastly  different  and  thus  view  their  work  life  differently,  you  as  an  individual   change  and  evolve  over  the  course  of  your  career  years.       Yet,  how  many  people  go  through  an  exercise  of  finding  out  for  certain  whether   it  is  the  right  course  for  them?     I  know  that  I  fell  into  it  somewhere  at  the  edge  of  my  patience  with  my  corporate   career,  in  the  depth  of  my  self-‐discovery  and  at  the  height  of  my  misery.  Funny   how  bad  things  lead  to  good  stuff  in  life,  right?       Now  let’s  find  out  if  entrepreneurship  is  right  for,  now  or  someday  in  your   brilliant  future.  Shall  we?   From  Corporate  to  Entrepreneurship     During  the  time  that  I  was  a  devoted  corporate  employee,  I  could  never  see   myself  as  a  thriving  entrepreneur.  The  prospect  did  not  interest  me  at  all.  The   early  years  of  my  corporate  life  plus  my  18-‐month  experience  with  a  start-‐up   were  all  about  rising  on  the  corporate  ladder  and  the  idea  of  not  working  for  a   large  Fortune  500  company  and  belonging  to  a  large  entity  scared  me  to  pieces.     It  was  not  until  the  latter  years  where  I  began  to  feel  this  yearning  for  meaningful   work.  I  had  so  much  accumulated  unhappiness  and  misery  in  the  corporate   environment  that  I  woke  up  one  day  only  to  realize  that  I  was  an  absolute  misfit   for  the  corporate  life  in  every  sense  of  the  word.  Whatever  it  is  I  was  meant  to   do  was  not  to  be  found  in  the  corporate  landscape.  And  no  one  is  more  shocked   about  this  discovery  than  yours  truly,  trust  me.     Prolific  Living  Inc.  –  Copyright  2009-‐2014  ©
  • 3.   Suddenly,  almost  overnight,  my  entire  perspective  changed.  Years  of  stigma   broke  down  as  quickly  as  a  deck  of  cards  on  loose  footing.  The  idea  of  creating   and  building  a  business  with  my  own  two  hands  from  scratch  appealed  to  me  like   a  newly  discovered  taste  that  had  been  missing  from  the  nourishment  of  my  soul.       Entrepreneurship  fit  me  like  a  new  skin,  a  better  one  than  any  I  had  known.  It   embraced  me  in  all  its  elements,  from  the  grueling  hours  to  in  the  incredible   liberation,  from  the  discipline  and  difficulties  of  doing  things  on  my  own  to  the   delight  of  earning  money  precisely  the  way  I  chose  to  do.  I  loved  this  brave  new   world,  despite  all  the  gloom  and  doom  the  world  will  have  you  believe  about  the   general  state  of  economy.         My  daily  experience  continues  to  affirm  my  foresight  every  single  day  and  I  know   that  I  have  finally  arrived  home  in  my  work  life.  I  was  meant  to  work  for  myself   through  and  through.     What  about  you?       How  would  entrepreneurship  fit  your  beliefs  and  your  lifestyle?     Work  was  meant  to  be  so  much  more  than  it  is  today.  Cultures  and  lifestyles   have  slowly  diminished  the  idea  of  work  to  a  singular  means  of  a  survival,  a   meaningless  miserable  rat  race  in  which  we  are  lucky  to  partake  if  we  have  a  “job   in  this  economy.”     But  work  is  not  just  something  you  do  to  earn  a  paycheck.  Work  can  define  your   contributions  to  the  world.  Work  can  be  your  legacy  if  you  put  your  gifts  and   talents  into  it.  Work  can  be  a  direct  expression  of  your  passions  and  that  is  for   more  than  just  the  artist,  the  painter  or  the  musician.  It  is  for  anyone!       Work  can  be  meaningful  and  profitable  if  you  choose  to  believe  so.  My  paradigm   shift  started  precisely  when  I  chose  to  believe  so.  When  will  you  allow  yours  to   start?     The  first  and  most  important  thing  is  to  truly  understand  the  meaning  of  work   and  the  mindset  of  an  entrepreneur.  The  next  thing  is  to  decide  whether  you   share  in  the  ideals,  the  perspectives,  and  the  general  approach  to  work  and  to   life.     Prolific  Living  Inc.  –  Copyright  2009-‐2014  ©
  • 4.   This  can  be  slightly  ironic.  You  see,  entrepreneurship  is  an  expression  of  a   creative  and  expressive  mind  that  uses  its  ideas  –  from  mediocre  to  dumb,   anywhere  in  the  scale  -‐  to  build  a  business  or  an  enterprise.  So  what  you  need  to   embrace  in  order  to  thrive  as  an  entrepreneur  is  that  freedom.  It  is  ironic   because  freedom  means  you  can  do  as  you  please  and  who  among  us  doesn’t   want  to  embrace  freedom?       Well,  that  is  exactly  where  our  resistance  comes  in  when  it  comes  to  our  work  in   this  life.  We  resist  doing  that  to  which  we  are  called.  We  ignore  the  inner  voice   and  give  it  a  stern  talking-‐to.  We  wall  ourselves  into  a  corner  with  massive   excuses  and  grand  reasons  why  we  cannot  do  what  we  love.       Until  one  day,  we  wake  up  and  suddenly  find  ourselves  empty  and  yearning  still   to,  you  guessed  it,  do  something  we  love.  We  don’t  care  anymore  if  it  makes   money  or  if  it  can  be  profitable  or  any  of  that.  We  simply  want  some  happiness   that  we  know  we  can  get  from  doing  something  we  love.       That  point,  darling,  can  be  a  bit  too  late  in  game  for  careful  planning  and  smart   execution  if  you  are  not  careful.  Do  not  wait  until  your  patience  has  run  out   along  with  the  best  years  of  your  life.  Let  us  find  out  now  whether  you  are  meant   to  take  this  road  to  entrepreneurship,  come  what  may!     Even  if  you  have  never  wondered  how  you  would  fare  as  an  entrepreneur,  I   believe  that  knowing  more  about  the  empowering  idea  of  working  on  your  own   terms  is  worth  exploring.  If  for  nothing  else,  you  can  rule  it  out  as  a  possible   option  in  your  career  and  work  life  next  time  you  are  ready  for  a  change.     But  can  you  really  know  your  true  reaction  to  working  for  yourself  before  actually   do  it?     Well,  you  won’t  know  for  a  fact,  but  you  can  come  pretty  close  to  a  highly   educated  guess.     That  is  where  this  51-‐question  guide  comes  in.  It  can  help  you  get  into  the   mindset  of  an  entrepreneur  world.  You  need  to  decide  if  that  plays  to  your   strengths  and  ideals  about  work  and  career  and  not  to  your  weaknesses  and  that   is  what  we  are  going  to  find  out  together!     Prolific  Living  Inc.  –  Copyright  2009-‐2014  ©
  • 5. Definition  of  Entrepreneurship     You  can  never  be  too  careful  with  definitions.       It  is  not  unusual  for  the  same  word  in  our  language  to  mean  different  things  to   different  people.  We  tend  to  draw  our  meaning  for  words  from  our  unique   experience  and  exposure  to  them.  Sometimes,  the  standard  and  true  definition   even  gets  lost  along  the  way!     I  digress  a  bit  but  that  is  why  I  decided  that  it  would  be  wise  to  define  the  main   word  in  question:  Entrepreneurship.       Entrepreneurship:  the  act  of  someone  organizing  a  business  venture  and   assumes  the  risk  for  it.     ~Google’s  first  search  result     Entrepreneurship  is  the  act  of  being  an  entrepreneur,  which  can  be  defined  as   one  who  undertakes  innovations,  finance  and  business  acumen  in  an  effort  to   transform  innovations  into  economic  goods.  ~Wikipedia     Those  are  good,  albeit  dry,  definitions.  Now  let  me  share  with  you  my  definition.     Entrepreneurship  is  much  like  having  children.       First  of  all,  it  is  not  for  everyone.       It  is  either  the  right  or  wrong  step  for  you  and  yet,  it  is  immensely  difficult  to   admit  the  latter  to  yourself  or  to  anyone  in  your  world  once  you’ve  taken  the   plunge  in  either  category.       I  mean,  you  don’t  just  admit  children  are  not  right  for  you.  You  would  make   yourself  come  up  with  elaborate  explanations  as  to  why  it  is  a  challenge  but  still   a  blessing  or  something  like  that.  And  if  it  is  right  for  you,  if  it  is  what  you  are   meant  to  do,  well  then,  you  have  the  incredible  experience  of  once-‐in-‐a-‐lifetime   opportunity  of  being  a  parent.  And  the  same  goes  for  entrepreneurship.     You  see,  much  like  having  children,  you  fall  in  love  instantly,  completely  and   irreversibly  with  working  for  yourself  and  creating  your  own  business.  Love  takes   Prolific  Living  Inc.  –  Copyright  2009-‐2014  ©
  • 6. but  an  instant  to  overwhelm  you  when  entrepreneurship  is  the  right  thing  for   you.       But  with  children,  you  may  argue,  there  is  the  physical  and  biological  bond.  Well,   not  always.  Take  a  look  at  adopted  children;  their  parents  love  them  instantly,   deeply  and  truly  despite  the  lack  of  those  bonds.  And  so  will  you  love  your   business,  your  company,  and  your  enterprise  or  for  all  intents  and  purposes:  your   baby!     Just  like  with  children,  entrepreneurship  marks  a  point  of  no  return  in  your  life.   There  is  no  return  policy  on  those  little  darlings  once  they  arrive  and  similarly,   there  is  no  going  back  to  working  for  someone  else  once  you  have  broken  the   ties.       I  mean,  well,  of  course  you  could  technically  get  a  job  at  another  place;  however   if  you  were  made  for  entrepreneurship  like  me,  the  mere  thought  of  returning  to   the  workplace  would  not  be  without  excruciating  pain,  heavy  sacrifices  and   heaps  of  inner  conflict.  It  will  end  your  fulfillment  and  freedom  as  you  have  come   to  know  and  love  it.     Once  the  bird  is  set  free,  it  can  never  go  back  to  even  a  golden  cage,  whatever   the  extravagance  and  opulence  may  be.     Furthermore,  entrepreneurship  is  hard,  hard  work,  most  of  which  goes  very   unnoticed  in  the  eyes  of  the  world.  It  can  cost  a  fortune  to  grow  and  it  can  cause   you  heartbreak  and  disappointment  despite  your  best  efforts.       Being  an  entrepreneur  can  and  does  keep  you  up  at  night  and  yet  you  smile  at   the  whole  world  in  the  morning  every  time.  It  fills  you  with  a  sense  of  irrational   pride  and  extreme  accomplishment,  and  few  who  are  outside  the  realm  of  it  can   relate  to  you  and  your  world  anymore  –  sorry,  just  one  of  the  facts  -‐  but  the  good   news  is  that  you  start  to  care  very  little  about  that.  You  know  you  are  doing   something  special  and  worthwhile,  just  as  you  do  with  being  a  parent.  You  have   inner  peace  and  that  is  the  greatest  gift  any  work  can  bring  you.     Yet,  it  can  be  frustrating  and  thankless,  brutal  and  challenging,  and  the  return  on   the  investment  may  not  show  up  for  a  while.  Or  ever.     Still,  you  put  your  heart  and  soul  into  it  and  do  not  question  your  choice  for  a   second.   Prolific  Living  Inc.  –  Copyright  2009-‐2014  ©

Now  that  you  have  taken  the  questionnaire,  what  do  you  do  with  the   information  you  have  gained?     First,  I  want  you  to  answer  that  yourself.  How  did  it  feel  to  go  through  those   questions?  Did  you  come  to  any  realization  on  your  own  about  whether  the   pursuit  of  your  own  business  ideas  is  more  or  less  important  than  before?       Think  about  how  the  questions  made  you  feel  and  whether  you  could  see   yourself  as  an  entrepreneur  someday  in  your  own  glorious  future?     Remember  the  right  answer  is  the  one  in  your  heart.  No  one  can  tell  you  whether   working  for  yourself  is  right  or  wrong.  Only  you  know  the  right  path  for  you.  The   goal  of  these  questions  was  to  help  you  bring  that  to  the  surface,  rather  than   persuade  you  one  way  or  another.       We  each  come  to  express  our  greatness  in  our  own  way.  Remain  true  to  that.     Now,  I  do  have  a  quick  analysis  for  your  responses.     1.  If  you  answered  a  resounding  True  in  40  to  51  of  these  questions:     Then,  you  would  be  a  perfect  fit  for  the  world  of  entrepreneurship  and  self-‐ employment.  Your  mind  works  like  an  entrepreneur  and  you  would  find  the  work   so  fulfilling  that  the  grueling  hours  would  not  bother  you.  They  will  fuel  and   energize  you  because  the  rewards  align  to  your  true  values.       In  short,  this  would  be  most  likely  a  path  that  would  be  fulfilling  and  give  you  a   channel  to  build  your  ideas  and  turn  your  passions  into  a  profit.     2.  If  you  answered  True  to  20-‐39  of  these  questions:       Then,  you  have  an  interest  in  working  for  yourself  someday  even  if  it  is  just  a   healthy  curiosity.  You  can  appreciate  the  benefits  of  entrepreneurship  as   opposed  to  employment  at  a  traditional  job  and  you  may  even  be  ready  to   pursue  it  someday.       However,  there  are  probably  still  a  few  things  that  hold  you  back.  Some  of  it  may   be  related  to  your  personality  and  some  to  your  work  habits  –  you  have  adhered   Prolific  Living  Inc.  –  Copyright  2009-‐2014  ©
  • 13. to  a  certain  way  of  working  all  your  life  and  the  idea  of  this  radical  shift  gives  you   a  few  healthy  jitters.  You  are  still  on  the  fence  and  need  to  explore  and  research   whether  building  your  business  makes  sense  for  you.  If  you  are  not  emotionally   and  psychologically  committed  to  working  for  yourself,  your  business  will  suffer.       Mindset  is  everything  and  it  is  the  reason  the  average  person  can  excel  the   brilliant  person  in  business,  because  of  that  mindset  of  refusing  defeat  and   pushing  past  all  points  of  discomfort  and  initial  bouts  of  failure.  Until  you  can   embrace  this  mindset,  you  will  most  likely  be  entertaining  the  idea  of   entrepreneurship  in  your  mind.  Perhaps  someday,  it  will  be  the  right  thing  to  do.   Just  listen  to  yourself  and  keep  tabs  on  the  flow  of  those  great  ideas.  You  never   know  what  you  may  be  ready  to  do  someday!     3.  If  you  answered  True  to  1-‐19  of  these  questions:       If  you  were  shaking  your  head  False  rather  than  True  most  of  the  time,  and  came   up  with  a  handful  of  occasions  where  you  could  relate  to  the  statements,  then   the  mindset  and  approach  of  an  entrepreneur  to  work  may  not  be  a  good  fit  for   you  at  this  time  until  you  do  some  due  diligence  and  explore  your  true  goals  in   business  and  in  life.       A  lot  of  these  questions  are  feelings  that  start  to  develop  after  working  for   someone  else  for  a  very  long  time.  Some  people  are  perfectly  happy  and  they   can  do  great  work  while  belonging  to  a  corporation,  an  organization  or  another   large  entity.  I  certainly  enjoyed  my  own  period  where  I  felt  that  I  could  belong   and  do  very  good  work.  If  you  feel  that  way  about  your  work,  then  working  for   yourself  will  likely  not  set  you  up  for  success  as  you  would  be  missing  many   benefits  that  employment  provides.       It  is  really  important  to  carefully  examine  what  you  want  to  get  out  of  your  work   life  even  if  self-‐employment  does  not  bode  well  for  you.  This  is  an  exercise  in   self-‐discovery.  What  is  it  that  you  love  to  do  and  how  can  you  do  that  and  still   make  a  profit  at  it?  Perhaps  working  in  the  right  company  or  organization  or   small  entity  will  be  the  answer  for  you.  Keep  asking  questions  until  you  can  arrive   at  the  right  answer  for  you.     Summary  and  Next  Steps  in  Your  Career     Prolific  Living  Inc.  –  Copyright  2009-‐2014  ©
