3. My teenybopper has a phone;

4. She really never is alone.

5. It beeps and jitters day and night,

6. Emitting tiny bluish light.

7. Her ring tone is the latest rage,

8. As other preteens text and page.

9. One- liner messages appear

10. That make her grin from ear to ear.

11. The latest crisis, who likes whom,

12. The rock star with the best perfume;

13. Such weight matters cause her thrill

14. And elevate our monthly bill.

15. And yet, the silver lining glows,

16. For we have never come to blows.

17. I never have to raise my voice,

18. Because I have a high-tech choice.

19. If school assignments pile sky-high,

20. I exhale with a weighty sigh.

21. Like every modern mom who cares,

22. I simply telephone upstairs.

23. When chores demand her energies,

24. I simply text her, asking “Please!”

25. No alibis or missing word,

26. Because it’s clear that she has heard.

27. And if my daughter goes outside

28. To visit friends, both far and wide,

29. Her curfew’s easy to enforce

30. With her new cellular resource.

31. This beeping tether holds her close,

32. While helping her feel grandiose.

33. If separation e’er occurs,

34. My speed-dial links my heart to hers.

35. Our handy cell phones help us out,

36. Convenient, easy, with no doubt.

37. Yes, certainly, they have their place.

38. But can’t we talk once, face to face?
