Chapter House Safety Doors and Windows Always be sure that your doors and windows are locked when you leave your room and building. While leaving the window open provides a nice breeze in November, it also provides a nice entrance for criminals. In addition, there have been incidents where students have fallen out of open windows, resulting in serious injuries, deaths, and law suits. ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object]

Chapter House Safety Propped Doors Propped doors are the easiest ways for intruders to enter your home. Please ensure that doors close behind you and never prop a door because you will be back “in a minute”. It only takes a second for someone else to enter. Exits Emergency exits are intended for emergencies. Please do not use them for a “faster” way out of the building, trash chute, or to smoke. ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object]

Chapter House Safety Door Codes/Keys/Fobs Doors codes, keys, and fobs are to be only given out to ACTIVE members of the chapter. For your safety, it is imperative that only current members of the organization have access to the building. All visitors should be escorted into the building and not be given the key or code. Capacity for Social Events It is important that the chapter follows the capacity guidelines set by the fire department. Over-capacity is a fire hazard that could make exiting the building in an emergency a dangerous situation. To find out the capacity of your chapter house, you can contact OFSL.

Chapter House Safety Patios/Fratios The Patios and Fratios are not intended for individuals to sit on or hang from them, as they were not built to support human weight. Cameras All chapter houses are now equipped with security cameras. Please utilize entrances with this security feature, and under no circumstance, should you block the cameras . ,[object Object],[object Object]

Fire Hazards ,[object Object],[object Object],Fire Sprinklers Fire Sprinklers are required in each chapter house as of December 2008. Hanging items from the pipes can cause damage. When properly maintained, they can save your life, and all of your belongings in the event of a fire. Fireplaces Fireplaces are wonderful in winter, but please ensure that the fire is not left unattended When the fire is done, check to make sure that is has been properly tamed. ,[object Object],[object Object]

Location of Safety Equipment Alarms Residential areas should have red fire alarm pull boxes and smoke detectors. Pulling down on the center lever activates the alarm box. Residents should be careful not to bump the box, as it may activate the alarm. Fire Extinguishers Fire extinguishers are located through the building and in any areas with cooking equipment.
