A Comparison of Three Newspapers' Articles on the Same Topic
In my essay, I shall compare the way in which three news publications, The Mirror, an example of the
popular press, The Times, an example of the quality press and Newsweek, an American publication
reported the same incident. Using these three reports, I shall compare the variations and similarities
in the amount of factual information given, the interviews used, the language employed and finally,
the layout and presentation of the various articles.
On the 3rd of February 1998, a U.S. military jet sliced the wire of a cable car in the Italian ski resort
in the Dolomites in Cavalese. This resulted in the untimely death of 20 tourists...show more content...
The tone is much more factual and is not as colloquial as popular press. The sentences are usually
quite complex; hence the paragraphs are quite lengthy. The graphics are usually informative rather
than biased or seeking attention. Moreover, in The Times, the sound effects would usually be limited
to puns. Foreign publications, such as Newsweek, generally contain features of both popular press
and quality press.
The Mirror contained quite a lot of factual information. The article informed the readership that "20
skiers" "plunged 300ft to their deaths" after a low–flying American "warplane" "sliced through the
wire of their cable car." Similarly, The Times and Newsweek also provided this information. The
article in The Times stated "Twenty people fell three hundred feet to their death" when an
"American military aircraft" "sliced the steel wire supporting a cable car carrying skiers." Like the
other two articles, the article in Newsweek established that a "U.S. fighter jet" had "clipped two
cable cars" and sent a "gondola full of skiers tumbling to the ground." All three articles also
confirmed that there were "twenty" victims. The Mirror and Newsweek gave more detail about this
aspect. The Mirror stated that the victims were "nine women, 10 men and one child." Newsweek
also stated that the "tourists" originated from "seven European countries."

The Giver Book Comparison
The novel I chose, The Giver by Lois Lowry, was made into a movie in 2014. While the movie
was accurate on several points, there are many differences between it and the original book. I
enjoyed both the book and the movie, and found it easy to pick out most of the similarities
differences. Some were harder to find, but with al closer look they were also relatively simple to
find. While most of the plot remain the same between the two, there are many changes in who the
character are and what they do that affect the story in major ways. One main similarity between the
book and the movie that I enjoyed seeing in both was the first memory that Jonas receives. This is
the memory of the sled and snow. In the memory, Jonas is put into a forested...show more content...
While I do admit that all of the adults jobs remain the same, both Fiona and Asher's jobs are
changed, and the girl who becomes a birthmother at the ceremony is switched from the second
person in the book, to the first person in the movie. In the book, Fiona's new career is as a
Caretaker of the Elderly. In the movie, though, her job is changed to Nurturer of the Young. This
means that she goes from taking care of senior citizens to taking care of babies. This is a very big
change. There is a decent reason for it, though. My suspicion is that the makers of the movie
didn't want to have naked old people in the movie, so they replaced it with the similar but
opposite end of the age spectrum. Ashers job, on the other hand, was changed to suit the movie. In
the book, asher is chosen as the Recreational Director. This is completely discarded in the movie,
and Asher is instead chosen as a pilot. The directors did this so that they could add Asher into to
the end of the movie, when it is Asher's job to stop Jonas from leaving, and Asher instead lets him
go for some reason. Asher's job change has no legitimate reason behind it except to extend the

A Comparison Of Mark Twain And Mark Twain
Nelson Mandela once said, " Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change
the world." As the world grew, Mark Twain and Langston Hughes became writers, poets, and so on.
With the knowledge that Hughes and Twain had, they made impacts on the world. However, the
ability that these two men had allowed them to be motivational historical figures. Still today, their
works and ideas for writing are still helpful to other writers. As writers, these two had fluent and
intellectual minds, they did not give up. So therefore, with Twain and Hughes being such prominent
figures with immaculate writing capabilities, their masterpieces can be compared.
Twain said, "...it is good to begin life poor; it is good to begin life rich–these are wholesome; but to
begin it prospectively rich! The man who has not experienced it [poverty] cannot imagine the curse
of it" ("Mark Twain Fun Facts" 2). As life started for Twain, he went through many obstacles. In
addition, Mark Twain started writing short stories that evolved over time. Not all people in the
world have the most wealthiest lifestyle, Twain, on the other hand, was born 2 months premature
and also had to deal with poor health for ten years of his life. Mark Twain had no one to turn to for
inspiration or motivation. Twain left school to become a printer's apprentice("Mark Twain
Biography"2). Not to mention, Mark Twain wrote in a manner that society could relate. For most of
his life up until he was an adult

A Comparison of Two Media Texts Essay
A Comparison of Two Media Texts
I am going to compare two articles about medical testing on animals. One is a newspaper article
written by Polly Toynbee and is called 'Sorry, but I think dying people are more important than
dumb animals,' this was published in the Guardian. The other is a leaflet with the title 'It's a crying
shame' which is design for animal aid. The Guardian news article is for medical testing on animals.
The Animal Aid is against medical testing on animals. Both texts are aimed at the general public who
are old enough to have an educated opinion.
The newspaper article taken from the Guardian is very basic and is set out like a typical newspaper
article would be. The image used...show more content...
The picture of Polly Toynbee in the article from the Guardian does not affect the argument and in
my opinion serves no purpose because it has no relevance to the topic of the article. The picture on
the front of the Animal Aid leaflet has the purpose of showing how animals suffer during and after
they have been put through a series of test that harm them. I think it is a very powerful image and
supports the leaflets objective. The other two images on the reverse side of the Animal Aid leaflet
have the same affect as the main image on the front. They both portray the suffering of animals
during and after harmful tests. Again I think they are very powerful and they support the objectives
of the leaflet.
'It's a crying shame' is the title for the Animal Aid. It links in with the picture on the front because
the dog seems to be crying. The two combined are very powerful and create a sympathetic attitude
for the reader so they are more likely to agree and donate. The words 'shame' does not represent
anger towards the persons who carry out the medical tests, it is a calm word so it makes you
sympathise towards the animals. It meets its purpose of making the reader pity the animals. The
other two on the reverse of the leaflet serve the same purpose as the main image on the front.
The image from the Guardian article does not relate to medical testing on animals because images of

Compare And Contrast Depression And Anxiety
Depression and anxiety are the two most common mental illnesses in the world today. They make a
person view the world as an ugly, scary place. Many people develop one or the other, and some
develop both. Depression and anxiety are two very different mental illnesses but many people only
see the similarities between them, instead of seeing the difference in their symptoms and emotions.
One of the many differences between depression and anxiety, is their symptoms. According to
Harold Cohen (2016) from psychcentral.com, people with depression have low energy and
"..depressed people often feel overwhelmed by the day–to–day tasks and personal relationships so
essential to life" (para.2). When someone has depression they lose interest in things they used to
love, and they tend to push friends and family away. They also often experience headaches,
insomnia, and a change in appetite. Meanwhile, people with anxiety experience panic attacks in
situations where other people would not. They also feel restless, they shake and sweat, and they
always have a constant worry. The symptoms of anxiety are very different from depression. A
person with anxiety would not have low energy, quite the opposite actually. Someone suffering from
anxiety has a high energy, but is always in a constant state of worry orfear.
Along with the different symptoms of anxiety, they also make the person dealing with the illness
feel differently, emotionally. People who have anxiety often feel like they want to

There are two types of learning systems most commonly used in the world, Online learning and
Traditional classroom teaching. Online learning is basically a system which involves electronic
media and information. In simple it is getting training and communication research through
electronic media. It would not be wrong to call online learning, the 'future of education'. Online
learning does have some weak points, but the solutions that have been provided are more than
enough to cover up the cons. Online learning system is not perfect, it has some deficiencies, but
it's definitely the system of the future. Many people still prefer traditional universities as the best
way to get knowledge and a degree but online education is also a good proven alternative. Through
online education students can study in the environment they find comfortable and the time they are
free. All of this is for free as most online course which universities offer don't have any fee or if
some courses have then that is very less as compared to the price of normal course at a university.
This is the reason which gives online education an edge over traditional classroom learning. By using

books and desks may not be the optimum learning environment for every student. In a New York
Times article, experts declared that the real promise of online education is "providing learning
experiences that are more tailored to individual students than is possible in classrooms," which in
turn fosters the concept of "learning by doing." Many students find this engagement more useful and

There are ways our government controls and protects our country. However, there are other countries
that have a different form of taking care of their nation. There are two types of government that
demonstrates and explain how countries around the world takes care of their nation. Every country
either has a limited or unlimited government that can explain the ways they do things. By learning
about the differences of a limited and unlimited government, we will be able to understand historical
debate in the united states, comparison of the United States government vs another country with a
different government type and how each government applies to the concept of a representative
democracy.
First, a limited government is when the power of the government is limited by the constitution. With
a limited government, everyone, including all authority figures, must obey the laws. The constitution
protects the individual rights of the citizen. In a limited government, gaining power is not the main
goal. The main goal is to improve public goods. However, a unlimited government is the opposite of
a limited government. With a unlimited government, the government's power has no limits. Control
is placed solely with the ruler and his or hers appointees. Unlimited government has total control over
their citizens and no limit it...show more content...
In the United States, limited government includes the Bill of rights, constitution and parliament. The

their minds. The constitution establishes America's government and fundamental laws. It also
guarantees basic rights for citizens. A parliament is a legislative body of government. It has three

Basketball vs. Soccer Essay
Comparison and Contrast Essay Basketball and soccer are two of the most played and enjoyable
sports in the world. They both have professional leagues that attract millions of audience. People
can watch both of them on television, but also play them for recreation and health. Basketball
and soccer games are interesting, good for the body, and healthy, but they are also different in
many ways. In both Soccer and Basketball the game is played with teams. Soccer has eleven
players on the field at one for each team, whereas in basketball you only have five on the court for
each team. (1) There are only five positions for a basketball games that includes two guards, two

Another aspect between these two sports is equipment. The first difference is the field these two
sports play in. Soccer is played on a natural or artificial grass that is 120 yards long and 80 yards
wide. (1) Basketball is played on a wooden floor 94 feet long and 50 feet wide. (1) These two
sports are played with a ball; however, the ball is different in each sport. Soccer regularly uses a
thickly padded, smooth leather ball with black and white spots on it; basketball typically uses an
orange leather ball. (2) Soccer and basketball require different equipment for athletes to compete.
These two sports are similar in many ways. People love basketball and soccer because it contains
competitiveness. Both of these sports motivate people to stay healthy and fit. (2) Also both
sports have one objective and that is to score more points than the opposing team to win games.
(1)Every league has playoffs for the best teams to compete against each other. Competing in the
playoffs will show the best team and the best team is rewarded with a championship trophy. In
conclusion, soccer and basketball are good sports to play. Some might say basketball is only for
tall people; however people of all heights can enjoy it if they put in the extra effort in any sport.
Also some might say soccer leads to many injuries; nevertheless our technology is so advanced that
it can help

Compare And Contrast Love And Hate
Love & Hate I never understood what people meant when they'd say "there's a fine line between
love and hate". I was taught love was "good" and hate was "bad". Someone even tried to convince
me that hate doesn't exist. But just like "good" and "bad", one cannot exist without the other. I have
asked myself so many times how two words, or better yet feelings, that are supposed to be
antonyms, opposites, are so similar at the same time. After living a little and doing much research I
think I finally understand both love and hate, as two individual concepts and as a unified concept.
What is love? What is that feeling that has inspired millions of songs and films? Well according to
Oxford Dictionaries, love is "an intense feeling of deep...show more content...

Compare And Contrast Traditional Teaching Styles
No teachers are similar as well as no students learn in the same way. Every teacher has their own
unique teaching style which is based on their educational philosophy, their classroom's demographic,
what subject area they teach, and the school's mission statement. Up until now, teachers are looking
for a system that will engage students in the educational process and will develop the students'
critical thinking skills. Moreover, teachers want the classroom to be in order and in control, but they
also want their students to appreciate the learning procedure. These teaching styles can be divided
into two approaches – the teacher–centered and learner–centered.
Traditional teaching styles use teacher–centered approach. It includes a teacher that stands at the
front and tells students step by step instructions. The teacher decides what is learned, when it is
learned, how it is learned, and how learning is evaluated. In a nutshell, the teacher is an information
giver and evaluator. The students are just there to learn through lessons and direct instructions. Their
attention is mainly focused on passing tests, assessments, and evaluations.
Through the years, many successful people have came from the traditional setting. The earliest
recorded occurrence of education proved that people learned in a...show more content...

Song Comparison Essay The road of life can be a bumpy one. There will always be twists and turns
that can alter a person's life, changing the course of their destination. Even though life can be tough,
you have to draw upon your inner strength in order to persevere. The songs, "Move Along" by The
All–American Rejects and "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)" by Greenday sing about this
message. The lyrics in their songs have many literary devices such as personification, repetition,
symbolism and juxtaposition. The personification will help you...show more content...
The theme is how when you have a tough, important moment in life, you have to make the best of it
and move along. An image for these lyrics will help you connect to the theme because you can see
what is going on and a picture will help you understand something more. In my next paragraph, I will
be talking about how the singers used repetition to emphasize certain points. In these songs, lyrics
were repeated. Repetition draws the listener's attention to particular words or phrases. In the song,
Time of Your Life, the singer repeats the line, "It's something unpredictable, but in the end it's right.
I hope you had the time of your life." This line is repeated throughout the song multiple times. The
singer is emphasizing the fact that anything can happen when you make your choice but in the end,
you have to just relax and be happy. He wants the audience to really understand it. In the other song,
the line, "Move along, move along. Just to make it through" The singer is repeating the term, "Move
along" because that is the main message in this song. It is to move along when things seem bad. The
singer wants the audience to really get the message and to feel good when they relate to this song.
These lines connect to the theme because they are talking about moving on in tough situations and
being satisfied with the outcome. These lyrics were emphasized well. Besides repetition, the singers
also used symbols and juxtaposition to

to the headline as the sub–heading is black. At the bottom of the page there are photos of heroes and
survivors this adds to the sense of sadness, also the headline and pictures have a torn frame to give a
sense of a community split or broken. There is also a small map with a near town and a river; it is a
very basic map to show the readers the relationship between Boscastle and water. There are also 2
pictures of Boscastle, a before and after. This could be similar to the headline and sub–heading with
a complete contrast or change.
The Guardian has basic presentational features with a heading in bold print, the heading says "In 2
hours a seaside village was reduced to ruins" next to it there is a large picture of Boscastle 'in ruins'
this could have been juxtaposition. Apart from these two factors there are no more presentational

bipolar depression may be categorized in either manic or depressive episodes, there are some cases
where a person has symptoms of both. The act of showing manic and depressive symptoms is

really defines how he takes on fighting the marlin. One other thing that shows his suffering is the
loss of the marlin to the sharks when Santiago was on his way back to Havana after catching the

ruthless, hatred of African Americans. How all these people would do anything to annihilate
them at all costs. Coates really shows how he feels all of the whites treat him. One thing that
coates shows is how Prince Jones was shot and killed to death. This really affected Coates and

can really change a character for the better or for the worse. Symbolism is shown for each novel in

Animal Farm by George Orwell which is an allegory of the Russian Revolution and the film
adaptation of George Orwell's novel 1984, which is set in a futuristic dystopian society, directed
by Michael Radford uses Symbolism, foreshadowing and irony to convey the central ideas of
power, politics, control, fear and they both also portray the dangers of totalitarianism. 1984 follows
one main character (Winston) which shows how the society is being controlled whereas Animal
Farm does not follow one character specifically. Though there are differences, Animal Farm and
1984 use the language techniques of symbolism, foreshadowing and irony in very similar ways.
George Orwell uses symbolism through a windmill which represents the pigs' manipulation of the
animals of the farm for their own gain. 'All that year the animals worked like slaves. But they
were happy in their work; they grudged no effort or sacrifice, well aware that everything that they
did was for the benefit of themselves and those of their kind who would come after them, and not
for a pack of idle thieving human beings.' This shows the manipulation of the pigs as that is what
they want the animals of the farm to think, that they are working for themselves not for Mr Jones
any more. In the same way Michael Radford uses symbolism through a piece of coral set in glass.
This is a symbol of Winston and Julia's love and as soon as the coral set in glass was broken
Winston and Julia were caught together, taken away and

Comparison Essay Topics

  • 1. A Comparison of Three Newspapers' Articles on the Same Topic In my essay, I shall compare the way in which three news publications, The Mirror, an example of the popular press, The Times, an example of the quality press and Newsweek, an American publication reported the same incident. Using these three reports, I shall compare the variations and similarities in the amount of factual information given, the interviews used, the language employed and finally, the layout and presentation of the various articles. On the 3rd of February 1998, a U.S. military jet sliced the wire of a cable car in the Italian ski resort in the Dolomites in Cavalese. This resulted in the untimely death of 20 tourists...show more content... The tone is much more factual and is not as colloquial as popular press. The sentences are usually quite complex; hence the paragraphs are quite lengthy. The graphics are usually informative rather than biased or seeking attention. Moreover, in The Times, the sound effects would usually be limited to puns. Foreign publications, such as Newsweek, generally contain features of both popular press and quality press. The Mirror contained quite a lot of factual information. The article informed the readership that "20 skiers" "plunged 300ft to their deaths" after a low–flying American "warplane" "sliced through the wire of their cable car." Similarly, The Times and Newsweek also provided this information. The article in The Times stated "Twenty people fell three hundred feet to their death" when an "American military aircraft" "sliced the steel wire supporting a cable car carrying skiers." Like the other two articles, the article in Newsweek established that a "U.S. fighter jet" had "clipped two cable cars" and sent a "gondola full of skiers tumbling to the ground." All three articles also confirmed that there were "twenty" victims. The Mirror and Newsweek gave more detail about this aspect. The Mirror stated that the victims were "nine women, 10 men and one child." Newsweek also stated that the "tourists" originated from "seven European countries." • 2. The Giver Book Comparison The novel I chose, The Giver by Lois Lowry, was made into a movie in 2014. While the movie was accurate on several points, there are many differences between it and the original book. I enjoyed both the book and the movie, and found it easy to pick out most of the similarities differences. Some were harder to find, but with al closer look they were also relatively simple to find. While most of the plot remain the same between the two, there are many changes in who the character are and what they do that affect the story in major ways. One main similarity between the book and the movie that I enjoyed seeing in both was the first memory that Jonas receives. This is the memory of the sled and snow. In the memory, Jonas is put into a forested...show more content... While I do admit that all of the adults jobs remain the same, both Fiona and Asher's jobs are changed, and the girl who becomes a birthmother at the ceremony is switched from the second person in the book, to the first person in the movie. In the book, Fiona's new career is as a Caretaker of the Elderly. In the movie, though, her job is changed to Nurturer of the Young. This means that she goes from taking care of senior citizens to taking care of babies. This is a very big change. There is a decent reason for it, though. My suspicion is that the makers of the movie didn't want to have naked old people in the movie, so they replaced it with the similar but opposite end of the age spectrum. Ashers job, on the other hand, was changed to suit the movie. In the book, asher is chosen as the Recreational Director. This is completely discarded in the movie, and Asher is instead chosen as a pilot. The directors did this so that they could add Asher into to the end of the movie, when it is Asher's job to stop Jonas from leaving, and Asher instead lets him go for some reason. Asher's job change has no legitimate reason behind it except to extend the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. A Comparison Of Mark Twain And Mark Twain Nelson Mandela once said, " Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." As the world grew, Mark Twain and Langston Hughes became writers, poets, and so on. With the knowledge that Hughes and Twain had, they made impacts on the world. However, the ability that these two men had allowed them to be motivational historical figures. Still today, their works and ideas for writing are still helpful to other writers. As writers, these two had fluent and intellectual minds, they did not give up. So therefore, with Twain and Hughes being such prominent figures with immaculate writing capabilities, their masterpieces can be compared. Twain said, "...it is good to begin life poor; it is good to begin life rich–these are wholesome; but to begin it prospectively rich! The man who has not experienced it [poverty] cannot imagine the curse of it" ("Mark Twain Fun Facts" 2). As life started for Twain, he went through many obstacles. In addition, Mark Twain started writing short stories that evolved over time. Not all people in the world have the most wealthiest lifestyle, Twain, on the other hand, was born 2 months premature and also had to deal with poor health for ten years of his life. Mark Twain had no one to turn to for inspiration or motivation. Twain left school to become a printer's apprentice("Mark Twain Biography"2). Not to mention, Mark Twain wrote in a manner that society could relate. For most of his life up until he was an adult Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. A Comparison of Two Media Texts Essay A Comparison of Two Media Texts I am going to compare two articles about medical testing on animals. One is a newspaper article written by Polly Toynbee and is called 'Sorry, but I think dying people are more important than dumb animals,' this was published in the Guardian. The other is a leaflet with the title 'It's a crying shame' which is design for animal aid. The Guardian news article is for medical testing on animals. The Animal Aid is against medical testing on animals. Both texts are aimed at the general public who are old enough to have an educated opinion. The newspaper article taken from the Guardian is very basic and is set out like a typical newspaper article would be. The image used...show more content... The picture of Polly Toynbee in the article from the Guardian does not affect the argument and in my opinion serves no purpose because it has no relevance to the topic of the article. The picture on the front of the Animal Aid leaflet has the purpose of showing how animals suffer during and after they have been put through a series of test that harm them. I think it is a very powerful image and supports the leaflets objective. The other two images on the reverse side of the Animal Aid leaflet have the same affect as the main image on the front. They both portray the suffering of animals during and after harmful tests. Again I think they are very powerful and they support the objectives of the leaflet. 'It's a crying shame' is the title for the Animal Aid. It links in with the picture on the front because the dog seems to be crying. The two combined are very powerful and create a sympathetic attitude for the reader so they are more likely to agree and donate. The words 'shame' does not represent anger towards the persons who carry out the medical tests, it is a calm word so it makes you sympathise towards the animals. It meets its purpose of making the reader pity the animals. The other two on the reverse of the leaflet serve the same purpose as the main image on the front. The image from the Guardian article does not relate to medical testing on animals because images of Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Compare And Contrast Depression And Anxiety Depression and anxiety are the two most common mental illnesses in the world today. They make a person view the world as an ugly, scary place. Many people develop one or the other, and some develop both. Depression and anxiety are two very different mental illnesses but many people only see the similarities between them, instead of seeing the difference in their symptoms and emotions. One of the many differences between depression and anxiety, is their symptoms. According to Harold Cohen (2016) from psychcentral.com, people with depression have low energy and "..depressed people often feel overwhelmed by the day–to–day tasks and personal relationships so essential to life" (para.2). When someone has depression they lose interest in things they used to love, and they tend to push friends and family away. They also often experience headaches, insomnia, and a change in appetite. Meanwhile, people with anxiety experience panic attacks in situations where other people would not. They also feel restless, they shake and sweat, and they always have a constant worry. The symptoms of anxiety are very different from depression. A person with anxiety would not have low energy, quite the opposite actually. Someone suffering from anxiety has a high energy, but is always in a constant state of worry orfear. Along with the different symptoms of anxiety, they also make the person dealing with the illness feel differently, emotionally. People who have anxiety often feel like they want to Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Online learning is basically a system which involves electronic media and information. In simple it is getting training and communication research through electronic media. It would not be wrong to call online learning, the 'future of education'. Online learning does have some weak points, but the solutions that have been provided are more than enough to cover up the cons. Online learning system is not perfect, it has some deficiencies, but it's definitely the system of the future. Many people still prefer traditional universities as the best way to get knowledge and a degree but online education is also a good proven alternative. Through online education students can study in the environment they find comfortable and the time they are free. All of this is for free as most online course which universities offer don't have any fee or if some courses have then that is very less as compared to the price of normal course at a university. This is the reason which gives online education an edge over traditional classroom learning. By using online education students can...show more content... This is ideal for those with unconventional work hours, those working full time, serving in the military or those raising a family. Moreover, the traditional method of lectures, books and desks may not be the optimum learning environment for every student. In a New York Times article, experts declared that the real promise of online education is "providing learning experiences that are more tailored to individual students than is possible in classrooms," which in turn fosters the concept of "learning by doing." There are two types of government that demonstrates and explain how countries around the world takes care of their nation. Every country either has a limited or unlimited government that can explain the ways they do things. By learning about the differences of a limited and unlimited government, we will be able to understand historical debate in the united states, comparison of the United States government vs another country with a different government type and how each government applies to the concept of a representative democracy. First, a limited government is when the power of the government is limited by the constitution. With a limited government, everyone, including all authority figures, must obey the laws. The constitution protects the individual rights of the citizen. In a limited government, gaining power is not the main goal. The main goal is to improve public goods. However, a unlimited government is the opposite of a limited government. With a unlimited government, the government's power has no limits. They both have professional leagues that attract millions of audience. People can watch both of them on television, but also play them for recreation and health. Basketball and soccer games are interesting, good for the body, and healthy, but they are also different in many ways. In both Soccer and Basketball the game is played with teams. • 9. Compare And Contrast Love And Hate Love & Hate I never understood what people meant when they'd say "there's a fine line between love and hate". I was taught love was "good" and hate was "bad". Someone even tried to convince me that hate doesn't exist. But just like "good" and "bad", one cannot exist without the other. I have asked myself so many times how two words, or better yet feelings, that are supposed to be antonyms, opposites, are so similar at the same time. After living a little and doing much research I think I finally understand both love and hate, as two individual concepts and as a unified concept. What is love? • 10. Compare And Contrast Traditional Teaching Styles No teachers are similar as well as no students learn in the same way. Every teacher has their own unique teaching style which is based on their educational philosophy, their classroom's demographic, what subject area they teach, and the school's mission statement. Up until now, teachers are looking for a system that will engage students in the educational process and will develop the students' critical thinking skills. Moreover, teachers want the classroom to be in order and in control, but they also want their students to appreciate the learning procedure. These teaching styles can be divided into two approaches – the teacher–centered and learner–centered. Traditional teaching styles use teacher–centered approach. It includes a teacher that stands at the front and tells students step by step instructions. The teacher decides what is learned, when it is learned, how it is learned, and how learning is evaluated. In a nutshell, the teacher is an information giver and evaluator. The students are just there to learn through lessons and direct instructions. Their attention is mainly focused on passing tests, assessments, and evaluations. Through the years, many successful people have came from the traditional setting. • 11. Song Comparison Essay Matthew ChungChung 1 Ms. Spilberg ENG2D1 March 5, 2013 Song Comparison Essay The road of life can be a bumpy one. There will always be twists and turns that can alter a person's life, changing the course of their destination. Even though life can be tough, you have to draw upon your inner strength in order to persevere. The songs, "Move Along" by The All–American Rejects and "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)" by Greenday sing about this message. The lyrics in their songs have many literary devices such as personification, repetition, symbolism and juxtaposition. The personification will help you...show more content... The theme is how when you have a tough, important moment in life, you have to make the best of it and move along. An image for these lyrics will help you connect to the theme because you can see what is going on and a picture will help you understand something more. In my next paragraph, I will be talking about how the singers used repetition to emphasize certain points. In these songs, lyrics were repeated. Repetition draws the listener's attention to particular words or phrases. In the song, Time of Your Life, the singer repeats the line, "It's something unpredictable, but in the end it's right. I hope you had the time of your life." This line is repeated throughout the song multiple times. The singer is emphasizing the fact that anything can happen when you make your choice but in the end, you have to just relax and be happy. He wants the audience to really understand it. In the other song, the line, "Move along, move along. Just to make it through" The singer is repeating the term, "Move along" because that is the main message in this song. It is to move along when things seem bad. The singer wants the audience to really get the message and to feel good when they relate to this song. These lines connect to the theme because they are talking about moving on in tough situations and being satisfied with the outcome. These lyrics were emphasized well. Besides repetition, the singers also used symbols and juxtaposition to Get more content on HelpWriting.net

At the bottom of the page there are photos of heroes and survivors this adds to the sense of sadness, also the headline and pictures have a torn frame to give a sense of a community split or broken. There is also a small map with a near town and a river; it is a very basic map to show the readers the relationship between Boscastle and water. The Old Man and the Sea By: Ernest Hemingway and Between the World and Me By: Ta–Nehisi Coates are very similar in many different ways. The comparison of each book is shown well in the setting, theme, and in Symbolism. In the setting, both books provide that the main character is a "little fish in a big sea". What that means is that the setting is very large. The character is only a small part of the area but is trying to make a difference. In Hemingway's Novella, he says that the setting takes place in Havana, Cuba. This place is where the main character, Santiago lives. What could be said as the real...show more content... It has more force in the evening too. But in the morning it is painful." The weakness of Santiago really defines how he takes on fighting the marlin. One other thing that shows his suffering is the loss of the marlin to the sharks when Santiago was on his way back to Havana after catching the marlin. Coates way of showing suffering is in how everybody around him would have the ruthless, hatred of African Americans. How all these people would do anything to annihilate them at all costs. Coates really shows how he feels all of the whites treat him. One thing that coates shows is how Prince Jones was shot and killed to death. This really affected Coates and really changed his as a person and as a man after Jones' death. Both the books show how suffering can really change a character for the better or for the worse. Symbolism is shown for each novel in The Marlin in The Old Man and the Sea and Race in Between the World and Me. The symbols are something that someone reallys want to get. They have working for something of this value for their whole lives. The Marlin is this magnificent creature that every fisherman only dreams of catching. Once Santiago finally catches this fish, he almost thinks of the fish as a brother. He was with the fish 2 straight days, in that time, all he was doing is trying to reel in this beast of a fish. He felt like this fish was one of the closest things that he has ever had to him before. In Between the World and Me, a Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Animal Farm by George Orwell which is an allegory of the Russian Revolution and the film adaptation of George Orwell's novel 1984, which is set in a futuristic dystopian society, directed by Michael Radford uses Symbolism, foreshadowing and irony to convey the central ideas of power, politics, control, fear and they both also portray the dangers of totalitarianism. 1984 follows one main character (Winston) which shows how the society is being controlled whereas Animal Farm does not follow one character specifically. Though there are differences, Animal Farm and 1984 use the language techniques of symbolism, foreshadowing and irony in very similar ways. George Orwell uses symbolism through a windmill which represents the pigs' manipulation of the animals of the farm for their own gain. 'All that year the animals worked like slaves. But they were happy in their work; they grudged no effort or sacrifice, well aware that everything that they did was for the benefit of themselves and those of their kind who would come after them, and not for a pack of idle thieving human beings.' This shows the manipulation of the pigs as that is what they want the animals of the farm to think, that they are working for themselves not for Mr Jones any more. In the same way Michael Radford uses symbolism through a piece of coral set in glass. This is a symbol of Winston and Julia's love and as soon as the coral set in glass was broken Winston and Julia were caught together, taken away and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
