Bloom’s Taxonomy
 Bloom’s Taxonomy was developed in 1956 and remains
the standard for describing various levels of thinking
skills. Following are the six levels of the taxonomy, from
lowest to highest.
 Level One: Knowledge-define, memorize, label
 Level Two: Comprehension-explain, predict, summarize
 Level Three: Application-show, illustrate, sequence
 Level Four: Analysis-survey, compare or contrast, examine
 Level Five: Synthesis-design, rewrite, construct
 Level Six: Evaluation-defend, choose, prioritize
E-Learning
 E-learning can be flexible and done outside the classroom or it can be
used as enhancement to a traditional course inside the classroom.
 E-learning can be asynchronous and synchronous learning.
 Asynchronous learning is a self paced, student centered learning process
that uses online resources like email, discussion boards, blogs, wikis, etc
to help facilitate the information.
 Synchronous learning is an instructor-led environment where everyone is
taking part in learning at the same time, in real time. Synchronous
learning can be facilitated through live streaming, Skype, webinars, chat
rooms etc.
• E-Learning is defined as any form of electronic
learning and teaching.
• E-learning is synonymous with other multi media
enhanced learning, like online learning, virtual
learning, distance learning, web based training, etc.
Bloom’s Taxonomy and E-Learning
 Remembering: Retrieving, recognizing, and recalling relevant knowledge from long-term
memory. Understanding: Constructing meaning from oral, written, and graphic messages
through interpreting, exemplifying, classifying, summarizing, inferring, comparing, and
explaining. Applying: Carrying out or using a procedure through executing, or
implementing. Analyzing: Breaking material into constituent parts, determining how the
parts relate to one another and to an overall structure or purpose through
differentiating, organizing, and attributing. Evaluating: Making judgments based on
criteria and standards through checking and critiquing. Creating: Putting elements
together to form a coherent or functional whole; reorganizing elements into a new
pattern or structure through generating, planning, or producing. (Anderson &
Krathwohl, 2001, pp. 67-68)
 E-learning refers to the use of electronic media and information and communication
technologies (ICT) in education. E-learning is broadly inclusive of all forms of
educational technology in learning and teaching. (Wikipedia, 2013).
 Bloom's taxonomy can work in conjunction with e-learning/technology because they
both go hand and hand with each other. Instructors are able to combine both concepts
and apply to various learning styles in class to make sure that students understand and
see the big picture. Bloom's taxonomy is broken down into six parts with detailed
definitions to help the learner apply e-learning/technology to using the taxonomy
model.
