2. Growth of the Internet The internet is a revolution! It has made distances shorter and the world smaller. The Internet by definition is a global system of interconnected computer networks that use the standard Internet Protocol Suite (TCP/IP) to serve billions of users worldwide There are close to 2 Billion internet users today around the world! The growth of internet usage since 2000- 2009 is 380.3 %! The Internet can powerfully leverage your ability to find, manage, and share information. Never before in human history has such a valuable resource been available to so many people at such little cost. You are incredibly lucky!

4. Websites Everywhere! A website is simply an online presence. Websites are hosted at ‘domains’ (there own small space on the internet). In January 2008 the total number of websites on earth was 182 million – this includes blogs that are pasted on subdomains such as blogspot, twitter, typepad etc. Growth of the web almost doubled from 2006-2008 Shrinking in the total number of Websites being published has yet to occur! We are also visiting more websites than ever and spending longer there!

The activity of updating a blog is “blogging” Blogs provide commentary or news on a particular subject; Others function as more personal online diaries. Blogs currently increasing about 30,000 - 40,000 new weblogs being created each day People are using blogs to promote themselves or anything else or as a simple communication tool! Internet Advertising increased it’s market share to 12 % in 2009 from 3.9% in 2006. A report published by the Advertising Association suggested that the market had the potential to grow by almost 40% in the next 12 years.
8. The rise in popularity of Social Networking Online social networking basically involves communicating and sharing information (often personal) with friends, family, work and other organisations. It can include video and pictures and many other applications that make the user feel a part of a larger social community. Youtube has 100million worldwide monthly users. Facebook has over 200 million registered users and Twitter has around 7 million monthly users.
