THE CANE TOAD
          cane toad
              or
         bufo marinus

Blake Mooers Fessenden grade 6
Scientific classification
Kingdom: Anamalia
Phylum: Chordata
Class: Amphibia
Order: Anura
Family: Bufonidae
Genus: Bufo
Subgenus: Rhinella
Species: Bufo Marinus
The Cane Toads appearance
● the cane toad produces poison with glands
  located behind the ear
● it is a large warty toad
● it has webed feet for swimming
● it has large eyes and a large mouth
The Cane Toads habitat

● swamps
● grass lands
● savannahs
● rain forests
● forests

All over Australia or South America.
Life Cycle of a Cane Toad
1-fertilized egg
2-small tadpole hatchling eats algae and larvae
3-tadpole develops legs and lungs then leaves
water
4-small toads tail disappears and starts to eat
land insects
5-Large toads begin to breed once they have been
out of the water for six months
6-after living a life span of about seven years they
die
Diet
The diet of a cane toad includes:
● rodents
● small mammals
● amphibians
● reptiles
● insects
Predators
Some of the cane toads predators are:
- crocodiles
- birds of prey
- snakes
- large lizards
The real problem is that anything that eats
the cane toad gets poisoned and will die in a
matter of minutes .
How this species destroy the
environment?

-the cane toad does not contribute to
anything good in Australian eco system
-it eats all different types and it eats so much
that it is destroying native animal populations
-due to their poison anything that eats it will
die
What is an invasive species?
An invasive species is:
-a animal that is not meant to be there
-it is normally introduced to help something
-in this case the cane toad is native to the
northern part of South America
-it was introduced to control cane beetle
populations in Australia
what can be done to help the native
species survive?
Due to the diet of the cane toad it has become
more a problem than a solution,so the only
way to help the native species survive is to
manually exterminate the cane toads.

KILL THE CANE TOAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Interesting facts
● there were 108 toads introduced to
Australia and today there are over 1 billion
● the cane toad live to breed
