- 3. Start at the Library Website www.monroetpl.org
- 5. Click here to access our e-Book collection.
- 7. Choose Monroe Township Library from the Library drop-down menu. Then enter your library card number, including the symbol at the end.
- 8. Select "Kindle Book" in the Format drop-down menu.
- 10. Click “Borrow”
- 11. Click “Download” and “Kindle Book”
- 12. It will automatically take you to Amazon.com to complete the check-out.
- 13. You may have to log in to Amazon. But once you do, you will see this: Click “Get library book”
- 14. That’s it! Your book will be delivered over the WiFi connection. If you don’t have WiFi, you can transfer the book using your USB cord.
- 15. If you want to transfer by USB cord, Amazon will show you how:
- 16. Now, locate your new library eBook on your Kindle and enjoy! … Sometimes you have to “refresh for new content” or check your archive.
- 17. • Your library eBook will be automatically removed from your Kindle on the due date. • That means NO late fees! Returning Library eBooks Early
- 18. But if you finish early, go to Amazon.com… Click “Manage Your Kindle” in the Kindle drop-down menu. You may have to log in to your Amazon account at this point!
- 19. Click “Actions” next to the book you want to return. Click “Return this book” and select “Yes” to confirm the return.

- Make sure everyone is connected to the library’s wifi. (What’s the Wifi ID, etc.? – Meg) To download library books, Kindle users must use WiFi or USB. 3G will not work. If anyone asks about Whispernet: It’s just the name for the technology Amazon users to deliver books over the wireless connection, no matter if it’s wifi or 3G. That’s all they need to understand.
- This will take you to the Sign In screen. Choose your library from the drop-down list (Monroe Township). Then sign in with your library card number – the whole thing!
- If you want a book to read right now, click on “Only show titles with copies available.” Point out other search features such as Subject Search
- Once you have chosen your book, check to make sure the book is available and make sure it is available in the Kindle Book format listed under Available formats .
- Log in to your Amazon account. As you can see, this is my account. I call my Kindle “Meg’s Kindle,” because I am not very creative. But I also have a Kindle reader on my phone and my PC, so they will all appear on the drop-down menu.

- If anyone is interested in seeing how this works, we can offer to walk them through it.
- Make sure they understand that it may take a minute or two for the book to download. It depends on the speed of the WiFi connection. The book will appear at the top of the list on their home screen.
- A history of what books you check out will be available on your Amazon account. If you decide to buy the book in the future, or check it out again, your notes and bookmarks will be automatically brought over to the new copy.
- The page will refresh once you’ve done this. **The book will stay in your Kindle Library unless you delete it. But keep it there if you want to preserve your bookmarks, highlights, etc.** Mention that an email will automatically be sent to confirm that the public library loan has ended.
