2. 1. WHAT ABOUT YOUR PRODUCT
APPEALS TO THEM?The significant thing that I want to appeal to the audience is the main female character as she is relatable to the
age range they are in, as well as the use of mise en scene for her costume. I want them to easily identify the
type of girl she is and the class she is under, also be able to relate to her and even judge her. Regardless of
whether the audience can directly relate to the protagonist, I want them to be able to form a positive or
negative opinion as I’d like to leave the opinion formed up to the audience. However the expected reaction is to
side with the character and fear for her due to the situation she is, although I am aware that not all the
audience could agree and may even want to see the extreme risks that the character goes to thrill them.
Secondly, the use of sound should appeal to the audience as it was a part of the opening especially after
completing research of other film openings that determines the emotion of the audience. Moreover, when
doing our questionnaires music was shown to be what creates the most suspense for our audience so it was an
important factor for us. We vary between sound in our opening to allow the audience to create a different sense
and emotion for each sound. With the use of sound which was created to contradict what was going on, for
example using a steady and calming sound to make the audience believe they are at ease until the music
changes along with the emotions of the audience.

3. 2. THINK ABOUT GENRE AND
CONVENTIONS – WILL YOUR
AUDIENCE/READER BE SATISFIED?
For the conventions of the genre, we followed through them in our opening and we have created it to be
quite traditional. By doing this, it allowed our opening to be simple yet easy to understand and identify
with the audience. Although I think we could of deviated away from the tradition to make our film more
modern and different to relate further to the mainstreamers. However because we followed a traditional
route it does also allow the mainstreamers to be attracted as they may be looking for something familiar
in comparison to other films in the genre. The opening only deviates itself from the original film we were
researching and using as inspiration as the plot of the opening is slightly different compared to ‘P2.’
Moreover, our opening was changed as the opening of ‘P2’ was very simple and we wanted to add more
emphasis into the opening to ensure the audience was engaged instantly. Overall, I think our audience
would be satisfied as it’s a film that they could be able to relate and familiarise with however I do think to
improve we could of created it to be more modern and in time with the audience.
4. 3. WHAT OTHER
TECHNIQUES/IMAGES/COMPETITION
S ETC. HAVE YOU USED TO MAKE
YOUR PRODUCT APPEALING?The use of titles was something we wanted to appeal to the audience immediately as after researching
and experimenting with various different titles, we decided to go with ‘White Elephant’ from DaFont for
the opening credits and for the main title we used ‘Waste of time’. I think both fonts compliment one
another and are slightly distorted which is the look we were aiming for to represent the thought of
unsettlement in the film and to show the audience that everything may not be ok. As well as the font,
when deviating away from ‘P2’ this was achieved by the use of parallel editing that is shown throughout
the opening. This has been done to give the audience more depth into the film, mainly towards the
before and during of the situation. Again this is to make them aware of what happens leading up but
holds the suspense for the audience for what happens next. We also used a range of different angles
when filming to create the idea of someone following the main character but also so the audience can
acknowledge the surroundings the character is in. Lastly, through image we used mise en scene to
portray the type of girl the main character was to enable the audience to relate to her.
