3. The E-Rate program was set up in 1997. The program was created
when the Federal Communications Commission implemented the
Telecommunications Act of 1996. This was implemented to ensure all
schools have affordable access to telecommunications and information
services.

4. The E-Rate program is administrated by the
Schools and Libraries Division.
Through the E-Rate program, up to $2.25
billion is available to eligible schools.
5. 1. Your school must have a technology plan in place.

6. • Depending on location and need, schools can
receive 20-90 percent discounts for
telecommunication services.
• Discounts are determined based on the amount of
students eligible for the National School Lunch
Program.
8. Goal #1 is to increase student learning and achievement through
integrating technology into instruction.
Goal #2 is to provide district-wide staff development programs to
ensure effective use of technology.
Goal #3 is to support the district-wide technology implementation and
use through campus level planning.
Goal #4 is to support integration of technology into instruction by
providing and maintaining adequate network connectivity.
