(a voiced sound mark)
The double points at the right top of hiragana
mean they have a voiced consonant
*Pronunciation of じand ぢ, ずand づare the same
*Dakuten is wrote last on the character
*Do not write dakuten longer than the previous stroke
12. Sokuon ‘っ’
• The smaller form of つ
• A pause (no sound) between two syllable
• Represented in Romanized Japanese by a
doubled consonant
ex. きてkite (come here) – きってkitte (stamp)
いてite (stay with me) – いってitte (go away!)

Combining tens and singles
To read number in Japanese, just read pairs of digits
(2,3,…) and units (10,20,…).
For example, the number 25 is pronounced as
に“ni” じゅう“juu” ご“go”, which means 2x10 + 5.
If a digit is one, just say only the unit.
