Perfotec verlengt de houdbaarheid van verse groente en fruit. Met de verpakkingstechnologie, die de ademsnelheid van de producten meet, wordt de houdbaarheid aanzienlijk verlengd. De voordelen van Perfotec zijn groot voor zowel consumenten als retailers. Groente en fruit blijft langer goed van smaak en de voedingswaarde blijft langer behouden. The use of the new information and communication technologies (ICTs) has speedily increased during the last 20 years. They have led us to a new global citizenship, a new way of thinking and even a new way of behaving, which have influenced all knowledge fields, including education. As a matter of fact, UNESCO’s ICT Competency Standards for Teachers (2008) recently pointed out that both students and teachers must utilize technology effectively in order to live, learn, and work successfully in an increasingly complex, information-rich and knowledge-based society. Students have new ways to access information and learn; they have naturally developed cognitive skills that make the use of digital technology much easier. Thus, they are called ‘the net generation’ or 'digital natives', people who have grown up with technology, mainly Internet (Prensky, 2001). Consequently, teachers have to develop digital competences to satisfy the demands of that new generation. Making the teaching-learning process more effective, interesting, dynamic, updated and adapted to the new learning times is a must for us. This presentation will offer an overview of digital literacy and a basic training on powerful Web 2.0 tools (blogs, wikis, podcasts, social networking, etc) to enhance the ELT teaching practice.

Integrating Social Networking Technology into Online Teaching and Learning

The response of higher education programmes to the transformative and creative spaces promulgated by web 2.0 and social media has been both inconsistent and intermittent, ignoring and embracing the potential for collaboration, knowledge construction and bricolage (Franklin & Harmelen 2007; Grosseck 2009). Outside the constraints of a Virtual Learning Environment and the University firewall, web 2.0 can support a deconstruction of the role of the teacher, a significant re-evaluation of the way knowledge is constructed and shared and a dramatic re-thinking of the inter-connections between learners, the crowd and their wider, separate networks in which learning can also occur (Downes 2009; O'Reilly 2003; Siemens 2005). This case study will look at the use web 2.0 and social media in the design and delivery of the BA Professional Practice programme at Middlesex University. The programme utilised a set of enhanced literacies centred on a do-it-yourself inquiry philosophy, the application, sharing and reflection upon social experiences and the construction of professional identity, ‘for’ the practice of work, ‘at’ the practice of work and ‘through’ the practice of work (Garnett & Workman 2009; Hanley 2011; Kamenetz 2010).

Heather Hedden, Senior Consultant at Enterprise Knowledge, presented “Enterprise Knowledge Graphs: The Importance of Semantics” on May 9, 2024, at the annual Data Summit in Boston. In her presentation, Hedden describes the components of an enterprise knowledge graph and provides further insight into the semantic layer – or knowledge model – component, which includes an ontology and controlled vocabularies, such as taxonomies, for controlled metadata. While data experts tend to focus on the graph database components (RDF triple store or a label property graph), Hedden emphasizes they should not overlook the importance of the semantic layer.

This project has evolved and some of our colleagues use it with Midsummer Night’s Dream as well. The primary goal is for the students to modernize the text while maintaining the integrity of the meaning. Additionally we have the cooperative nature of the project where students have to take on roles, organize themselves, etc. Aspects of this project that have developed are storyborading and creating a production schedule and our discussion of Fair Use with music specifically. When I started this project, students used imovie, but now we just Final Cut Pro. Other classes use Adobe Premiere which is on our tablets.
