Thanks for your time today Short presentation, I’M jan Anderson, Learning and OD Co-ordinator with NCC. Last 10 months been lead officer on introducing Learning Pool system to NCC. We were a pilot customer for Learning Pool because we introduced the Totara LMS from scratch. We had a round 16 different providers for different e-learning services and no centralised records. I’m going to show you what Totara is doing for us no and what we hope it will do, and how we introduced it. This is very much a project in development. But we’re really pleased that it only took us about 8 months to have 5000 people on the system with a useage of about 50% since I and colleagues received our training in January this year. Job roles have changed, we are all being asked to work differently, managers need their teams to engage with learning in a more appropriate way than traditionally F2F We are working with technology to provide a new way of learning that is accessible to all and much more engaging. .
This slide is one from a presentation we’ve been giving in of staff briefings to explain some of the advantages of LT. “ Just in time, just enough and just for you learning” I expect that most of you already have a Learning Pool system and know this already – ASK AUDIENCE FOR SHOW OF HANDS OK – now I’ll show you our system.
This is a what you have with the basic Learningpool system E-learning of course, links to other sites and information, Classrom connect. Performance Mgmt = Performance + for the team reporting , this is for individuals
Totara adds so much more. added functionality to help make your learning environment work even harder Traditional e learning course but better as more interactive Blended learning environments Web linked with a facilitator Create discussion forums Store frequently asked questions Build wikis and blogs Run real-time chat sessions Transmit video and audio podcasts , allowing you to: a range of easy-to-use reporting and management tools Performance Mgmt = Performance + for the team reporting , this is for individuals We have everything except the titles in red .
This is our Learning Together site. We have this with Totara Looks very much like your site I expect but row of tabs is where all the totara trickery is. Added functionality to help make your learning environment work even harder. Our site is still under development Traditional e learning course but better as more interactive Blended learning environments Web linked with a facilitator Create discussion forums Store frequently asked questions Build wikis and blogs Run real-time chat sessions Transmit video and audio podcasts , allowing you to: a range of easy-to-use reporting and management tools Performance Mgmt = Performance + for the team reporting , this is for individuals So far we’ve introduced everything except the bits shown with red titles, and developing learnng pathways.
Click on find courses and you go to courses page.
Click on my learning and you are taken to your individual dashboard..
Starting from the left – Clicking on My learning will bring up the individual dashboard. Everyone has their own. Self explanatory – Quick Links – Alerts – Recent Learning.
We’ve started compiling learning pathways by introducing programmes of courses. This is what it looks like in practice on our Learning Together site. This is the first programme – The basic Induction programme that everyone employed by NCC is required to do. Set by Corporate Management Team – Important for buy in from staff. Learners can see how well they’re progressing by the fuel gauges on the right. Learners can select whatever course they want to do next by clicking on the link.
Insert what brochure page looks like. If learners clcik on the course they will go to it.
Clicking on My Team This is a tab only managers have and shows their immediate team. Alignment of learning and development to competency framework These objectives will help inform personal development plan that will compliment your annual appraisal process. Our intention is to have a fully automated online appraisal system by 2013
Every job role will have a set of learning requirements identified against it Each person is then mapped against those learning requirements Gap analysis creates your learning pathway Corporate statutory and mandatory courses Job specific essential and desirable L&OD Working with services to create these for each team
Clicking on My Bookings
Useful to see this but they are also put into our outlook diaries.

My Team facility gives Managers picture of what the staff reporting immediately to them are doing.
Clicking on My Reports.
By accessing Reports the Manager can see what his whole service is doing. Insert here example of a report.
Run through slide. Describe who we got hep from.
This is one of the learning lounges we set up to open up access to the Learning system for staff who weren’t office based. Doubles up as a winter room electric screen and projector – better facilities than we have on our training rooms.
Don’t panic. I’ve deliberately set this slide up this wayso you can’t see detail but can get an idea f the levels of information we used. But I must admit I paniced when I saw it until kind people in our Employees services section explained what everything meant and it saved us so much time. We started with locL services – refuse collection, recycling, street care Caroline Bruce requested that Local Services be the pilot area because of the size of the service is to large so it has been agreed that the target area will be H&NS Go to next slide
This slide shows names, assignment numbers (employee numbers) the learners position, who their manager is…. Go to next slide
Then we have the parts of the spreadseet that show where the learner is within the orgainsation. Each column describes a different level and there is a letter code which explains it as well.
We also drew up a or 8 levels!
At the same time as we were working on other things, we were looking at learningpathways. Every job role will have a set of learning requirements identified against it Each person is then mapped against those learning requirements Gap analysis creates your learning pathway Corporate statutory and mandatory courses Job specific essential and desirable L&OD Working with services to create these for each team
Dashboards can be changed.
We can also add appraisals which we hope to do next.
