2. MASTHEADThe masthead is in my opinion the single most important feature of a media product. The
masthead allows a product to be distinguished and identifiable, an importance that is further
stressed because of the products being regional. Previously I decided that a more plain font
would be more appropriate for a professional looking product although following my research
into different regional magazine I learned that regional products tend to have more interesting,
exciting and themed looks. Subsequently, I have decided to look at some more creative, bold
and interesting fonts for my masthead.
3. MASTHEADS
Here are three of the six different fonts I though would potentially be
appropriate for my masthead. I particularly like the first one starting
on the left, the font has a creative texture look to it similar to that of
the crack magazine, this creative look also emphasizes the more
artistic take on product. The middle font was also interesting due to
its creative and friendly style, its smooth and curved edges make it
look more appealing in comparison to a sharp and uninviting font.
Because of how bold it is it would stand out a great deal on my
products. The third font represents in my opinion a bad font. It looks
too thin and does not stand out. It is overly creative and looks to a
point, messy. This would not appeal to me or my audiences because
it almost looks childish in comparison to the other two.
4. MASTHEADS
Similar to the first font on the previous page, the first font on the left
here would also work particularly well with my products. The font has
an appealing and again, creative look. It stands out because of its
creative and bold look, something I feel would appeal to my target
audience. The creative look would also help the magazine stand out
and be identifiable between issues, something particularly important
for me when competing with a national magazine or other regional
magazine. The next two fonts are both quite similar in their smooth
and bold look, their curved edges give a sense of professionalism
whilst still looking more creative than a regular bold and boring font.
I feel a downfall to choosing one of the last two fonts is that they
don’t particularly stand out in comparison to two of the others and
they are less recognisable. They might be more appropriate for sell
lines and main sellines.
5. MAGAZINE
As Identified in the previous slide, I feel that the fonts above would be
suitable for my magazine. I like that they are still in keeping with the
creative look but also have a professional look about them. They
are also easy to read which is important as they will be used for things
such as double page spread articles and content where it is essential
that the audience is able to read clearly and understand what is being
said.
6. WEBSITE
The font I have decided to use on my website is nimbus sans. I feel the font is a mix of
casual and professional, it gives me the room to create titles and article intros in a way that
is professional but not too serious. The font is allows me to continue with the look and feel I
have previously created on my website. The font is an option provided by Wix its self so this
is useful for the production as I will not have to continuously download the font when using
a different Mac.
7. BILLBOARD
The billboard will feature fonts which are the same as ones I have
previously used. Because the billboard will be subject to public
display I feel it is important to keep a theme of fonts going, both
promoting my brand and connecting each of my products through
the use of similar fonts. This is critically important in regards to
things such as Mastheads which are literally my brand. Promoting this
throughout is vital.
