21st century classroom. This course provides an
opportunity to explore and gain working
knowledge of current instructional technologies.
Class demonstrations and hands-on exercises
will focus on systems and tools K-12 teachers
may find in their districts and schools. Students
will become familiar with web 2.0 tools and their
appropriate use in the K-12 classroom. Students
will be trained to use assistive technology and
adaptive communication technology.
35. EDU630 Course Description: The focus of this
course is to prepare teachers to integrate

in writing and mathematics. The emphasis
will be on the evaluation and application of a
variety of technological tools.

45. Course Structure
This course will use a hybrid model of in class
discussions and online learning. We will use
different applications to help you expand the
boundaries of teaching and learning in your
classroom or future classroom. This course is
designed to use computers, the internet and many
platforms. It is expected that students entering
class have a working knowledge of the computer. If
this is not the case, you will need to spend extra
time developing the necessary computer skills to
function effectively on the platforms. If you have a
deficiency in these area(s) you need to take care of
this in the first week of the course. You will need to
spend some time voluntarily in the lab between
classes. Speak to me if you need additional
assistance in this area.
46. You are also expected to have a
working username and email account.
Contact CET if you do not have a
working account. You can expect to
spend 20 - 25 hours outside of class
time completing the required
assignments for class.
47. Performance Assessment
Classroom Participation(10%): All students will
engage in exploring the online tools shared each
session. It is expected that no student will have
other websites open on their computer; this
includes email and sites such as Facebook. Cell
phone use should be for emergency only. Students
will offer at minimum three comments per week on
the blog entries of your classmates. Absences will
affect your participation grade.
48. Performance Assessment
Teacher Blog (65%): All course participants will
create a personal Weblog on our Ning
Community, The Gordon Teacher’s
Collaborative. You will be instructed how to
add to and maintain your Weblog during the
first class sessions. Blog entries addressing
the assignments for each week of class are
due according to the schedule listed below to
allow others time to read and comment on
your blog. Late submissions will lower your
grade. Blog posts should be well developed,
thoroughly written graduate level entries
demonstrating thoughtful reflection and
response to the readings.
49.
50. Students are expected to write a minimum of 28
blog posts including to but not limited to the
following:

separate blog posts through the RSS feed,
students will compose a minimum of three
blog entries.
59. Final Project (25%): Individually selected topic (with instructor
approval). Use at least one of the applications that you have
learned in this course and create a model for use in your
classroom. Develop and write a detailed plan on how you
would incorporate this into your classroom. Fifteen-minute
presentation demonstrating proficiency in chosen
environment and application of technology. In both your
presentation and your written plan, explain what 21st century
skills students will learn and utilize. Include how students
will be assessed if appropriate. If the tool is one students will
use, create a class with example assignments, etc in your
chosen environment. Proper attribution and citations must
be provided. See accompanying rubric for assessment
details.
