As I begin my teaching career and the years prior to it, many ideas and decisions will take place.
Being that I plan to teach elementary school and deal with small children, I plan to be excessive on
classroom accessories. Children have a limited attention span and a dull, plain room would not be
appealing to them. The adjustment of leaving "mommy" will be hard enough for them anyway. I
hope to make the environment comforting and welcoming for them. Bright colored bulletin boards

My personal goal as a future teacher is to encourage and challenge students as they develop their
learning skills. Teaching young intellects is a significant undertaking and cannot be taken

To be a professional teacher, it takes skill to train young minds. Education is extremely important to
go through. Teachers have many different philosophies to choose from when teaching in a
classroom. Out of the five philosophies, I ranked the highest in Essentialism and Progressivism. Both

It is essential to encompass all of these behaviours and standards to succeed in being an effective
teacher, as they are in an authoritative position and therefore need to lead by example. Teacher
professionalism is also dependant on professional judgement, which involves making decisions on
what is the right thing to do in certain situations, and ethical behaviour. The code of ethics is based
on respect, caring, integrity, diligence and open communication (Groundwater–Smith, Ewing & Le
Cornu, 2007, p. 332). Sometimes teachers can come across 'ethical dilemmas' which are complex
problems that have more than one solution, and in turn, each solution has different advantages and
disadvantages, therefore having no clear correct answer (Groundwater–Smith et al., 2007, p. 336).

My Experience As A Student Teacher
Today's classroom is one of variety and challenge. I have seen first hand, in the classroom I
observed this semester, the impact of various children's backgrounds. There were second graders
from every walk of life and this diversity impacted how they interacted with each other, and, on
some occasions, how the teacher interacted with them. When working with a group of children such
as these, the educator must be aware of every aspect of diversity in their classroom. Diversity may
come in many forms: academic achievement, race, language, or socioeconomic differences, and it
may be difficult to address each of these needs individually. Regardless of these challenges, a
successful teacher will have the ability to create an atmosphere which will turn the student's
perceived "limitations" into their strongest ability. This what will keep them determined and ready
to engage with the curriculum. My experiences as a student teacher showed me that the biggest
barrier that I will have to surmount is finding a way to communicate the necessary information to
my students so that they will learn and even thrive in my class. This is especially true when
working in a low income area where students are worried about problems that are much bigger than
school: where their next meal is coming from or how much money they can earn to help their family
when they go to work that night. Such larger concerns will dwarf what happens in school, making
