 juicing removes the indigestible fiber,
 when you eat a raw carrot, you are only able to
assimilate about 1% of the available beta carotene.
 carrot is juiced, removing the fiber, nearly 100% of the
beta carotene can be assimilated.
Juicing helps you absorb all the nutrients from the
vegetables.
•most of us have impaired digestion
•This limits your body's ability to absorb all the nutrients
•Juicing "pre-digest"
Juicing allows you to consume an optimal amount of
vegetables in an efficient manner.
•one pound of raw vegetables per 50 pounds of body weight
per day.
You can add a wider variety of vegetables in your diet.
•Many people eat the same vegetable salads every day.
• juicing, you can get a wide variety of vegetables that you
may not normally enjoy eating whole
 Flavonoids are in fruits and vegetables, as well as in certain types of tea.
These compounds are thought to be antioxidants -- compounds capable of
'mopping up' free radicals, the harmful byproducts of normal metabolism.
 antioxidants help prevent cancer, heart disease, and other
illnesses. The study focused on daily intake of three major sources of
flavonoids -- apples, broccoli, and tea.
 Of the three sources, only high broccoli consumption was associated with
significant reductions in heart attack
 American Journal of Epidemiology
 May 15, 1999;149:943-949
 A study of more than 125,000 healthcare workers found that just one additional
daily serving of fruit or vegetables lowered the risk of heart disease by 4%.
Vegetables such as spinach , kale , broccoli and fruits such as oranges ,
grapefruits
 particular green leafy vegetables and vitamin C-rich fruits and
vegetables, against risk for coronary heart disease.
 Increased fruit and vegetable consumption was also found to protect people with
type 2 diabetes against heart attack, a potential complication of the disease.
 Fruits and vegetables contain myriad compounds that have been linked with
improved health. Fiber , potassium , folate , antioxidants
 Annals of Internal Medicine June 19, 2001;134:1106-1114
 These 2 classes of heart drugs handicap the heart by blocking nerves that control
heart muscle.
 the blood output of the heart is artificially reduced, causing less oxygen to reach the
body’s cells and tissues. The result will be normal blood pressure cuff .
 The body is now being forced to go through life with less oxygen than it needs, and
organs slowly start wearing out. Premature aging.
 Some standard beta blockers: Atenolol ,Propranolol ,Practolol ,Carvedilol
 Some ACE inhibitors: Accupril ,Altace ,Captopril ,Lotensin

Researchers have found a new use for garlic --
killing the antibiotic-resistance disease known as
MRSA.
More than 250 people have been successfully
treated.
Garlic’s healing properties come from a quickly-
degrading compound called allicin, which is
created only when the clove is damaged and two
compounds within the plant come together. New
research has focused on a form of stabilized
allicin.

 Ear infections (also called acute otitis media, or AOM) have generally been
considered bacterial diseases, which means that they are usually treated with
antibiotics.
 But new research indicates that viruses are found in a great many ear
infection cases, which could complicate treatment.
 Antibiotics have no effect on the viruses found in AOM infections, which
means that the standard treatment is at best only partially effective for most
cases. However, many cases of AOM heal themselves without antibiotic
treatment.
 The American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Academy of Family
Physicians have therefore recommended avoiding antibiotic treatment in mild
AOM cases.
  Clinical Infectious Diseases December 1, 2006; 43(11): 1417-1422
Patients suffering from bronchitis who were
given a widely prescribed antibiotic did no
better than patients who took a low dose of
vitamin C, which is known to be ineffective in
treating bronchitis.
 Antibiotics don't work for acute bronchitis. Now
we have strong evidence saying that it
shouldn't be used for this purpose.

 The skin is the first and main line of defense. Skin cells are rich in
keratin, which impedes microorganisms from entering the body. Lightly
acidic and oily secretions from sebaceous and sweat glands slow the
excessive growth of bacteria.
 Gastric acid is a powerful defense for the intestines from pathogens.
Few species are able to survive the low pH and destructive enzymes
that exist in the stomach.
 Saliva and tears contain antibacterial enzymes, such as Lysozyme,
which destroy the cellular walls of bacteria.
 Intestinal Bacteria (normal flora) compete with one another for
food and space, diminishing the probability of pathogenic bacteria
multiplying in sufficient numbers to cause illness.
 Mucus is another defense, coating the mucous membranes. It catches
and immobilizes invading bodies, its composition is deadly to many
microorganisms.
 Phagocytes = Cells that Eat
other cells and pathogens
 Macrophage = Big cells that
eat
 Neutrophil ( Bacterial
infections): the most abundant
type of phagocyte and is always
the first to arrive at the scene of
infection. The Neutrophil’s do a
“respiratory burst” that produces
hydrogen peroxide that is a
strong oxidizing agent which
accomplish destruction of
foreign substances and
pathogens.
 Macrophages: a gigantic cell, that
has the capacity to consume many
more bacteria than a neutrophil. And
can kill viruses, bacteria, fungi,
protozoa, and tumor cells. With this
powerful mechanism, the only
reason sickness still occurs is
because it could not function
fully.
 Basophil : these cells release
histamine and also defending against
parasites.
 Eosinophil : An important part of
defense against parasites.
 NK cells defend against Viruses and. NK cells are activated by interferon
produced by the adrenals
 T cells and B cells
 The function of T cells and B cells is to recognize specific antigens, Once they
have identified an invader, the cells generate specific responses that are
tailored to maximally eliminate specific pathogens.
 B cells respond to pathogens by producing large quantities of antibodies
which then neutralize foreign objects like bacteria and viruses. Following
activation, B cells and T cells leave a lasting legacy in the form of memory
cells. Throughout your lifetime these memory cells will “remember” each
specific pathogen encountered, and are able to mount a strong response if
the pathogen is detected again.
Immune system at work
Phagocytes are cells, such as neutrophils and macrophages , that
engulfing destroy pathogens
Phagocytosis is also an important part of the cleaning process after cellular
destruction following infection or any other process that leads to cellular
death. After the battle, both phagocytes and bacteria can be trapped in a
pasty liquid rich in stuctural proteins, known as pus.
 Antibody
 A type of protein made by certain white blood cells in response to a antigen.
Each antibody can bind to only a specific antigen. This helps destroy the
antigen. Some antibodies destroy antigens directly. Others make it easier for
white blood cells to destroy the antigen
 Inflammatory Response (how the body Heals)
 Inflammation is stimulated by factors released by injured cells. These factors
(histamine, bradicine) sensitize pain receptors and cause dilation of the blood
vessels at the scene, and also attract phagocytes, especially neutrophils.
Phagocytosis causes the neutrophils to release other factors that call
lymphocytes and other phagocytes.
 People who take aspirin and Tylenol
(acetaminophen) suppress their body's ability
to produce antibodies to destroy the cold virus.
Journal of Infectious Disease Dec 1990
A Food and Drug Administration advisory
panel voted to ban popular over-the-counter
cold products intended for children under the
age of 6.
The panel found there was no proof that the
medicines eased cold symptoms in children,
while there are reports that they have caused
serious harm.
New York Times October 20, 2007
 Researchers looked at data from the Scandinavian Lymphoma Etiology study, which
compared over 3,000 patients with NHL with a similar number of healthy patients.
There was a "striking" association between antibiotic use and NHL for all subtypes of
the disease, especially for those who had been given antibiotics more than 10 times
as children.
 A Cause, Or an Effect?
 This could mean that the increasing use of antibiotics in the 20th century might also
explain the rise in NHL cases.
 Also True for NSAIDs
 There was also an increased risk of NHL for heavy users of non-steroidal anti-
inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). This includes ibuprofen drugs such as Motrin and
Advil.

Before the 1990s, U.K. researchers estimated four to
five cases of autism per 10,000 people in their country.
2006, the number with autism had escalated one in
every 86 children.
2007, researchers at the Cambridge University's Autism
Research Center in London released a report estimating
that one in every 58 children in the U.K. (not just boys)
suffers from "some form of autism disorder
"Atypical patterns of exposure to common childhood
infections -- measles, mumps, rubella and chickenpox --
have been associated with autism and autistic
regression.... A close temporal relationship in the
exposure to two of these infections during periods of
susceptibility may compound both the risk and severity
of autism.... Although historically, these rare patterns of
exposure may have accounted for only a small
proportion of autism, the widespread use of a
combination of the candidate agents in a single vaccine
[MMR] may have changed this." 1998 Lancet published a
landmark study by Dr. Andrew Wakefield
"One important pattern of infection that may
increase the risk of delayed disease is where
different viruses interact, either with each other or
both interact with the host immune system
simultaneously. Virologic data support the
possibility of a compound effect of multiple
concurrent viral exposures influencing...the risk of
autism."
earlier study published in the American Journal of
Epidemiology
MRSA, methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus
MRSA in 2007 caused 18,600 deaths.
To put that number into perspective, HIV/AIDS killed 17,000
people that year.
The numbers are even more staggering when you include
ALL hospital infections, not just MRSA, as approximately
1.7 million Americans contracted infections during hospital
stays in 2007, and a subsequent 100,000 people perished
from these diseases, according to the U.S. Center of
Disease Control (CDC).
An Irish wildflower could hold the key to wiping out the
deadly superbug MRSA. A bright yellow flower known as
inula helenium kills the bacteria, which is resistant to some of
the most powerful antibiotics available.
Inula helenium grows wild in west Cork and blossoms in late
summer. Another herb, pulsatilla vulgaris, was also effective
against the disease.
When extracts from both plants were tested against a group
of 300 staphylococci, including MRSA, inula helenium was
100 percent effective against the superbug. Sources:

In the UK it would make sense for maggot therapy to
be available to patients in the community -- especially
since both hospital-based and district nurses find the
technique easy to learn. …

conventional therapies, and it is very likely that their
use at an early stage would reduce hospital admissions
or the need for surgical intervention in the treatment of
certain types of necrotic wounds.“

 In 1979, the average American
was prescribed one drug per year
with an average cost of $5.50?
 What is the reason why so
many people die from drugs?
 The drug companies are the ones who teach
your doctor what to prescribe.
 It is all based on the doctors being paid to
prescribe drugs.
 It is said that doctors are given about $13,000
a year from the different drug companies trying
to convince them to sell their drugs.
Journal of American Medical Association, Jan.. 19
 Last year, more than 6 million psychiatric
drug prescriptions were written for children
under the age of 18.
 According to National Toxicology Program, Ritalin has
been linked to liver cancer in mice.
 Well known criminal defense attorney from Georgia,
Melvin Nash, states that between 50-60% of the
people he represents for everything from traffic
violations to armed robbery have been on Ritalin at
some point in their life.
 Ritalin has also become the drug choice in High
School. It is crushed up and snorted. USA Today

Juicing and blending

  • 1. “Let food be your medicine and medicine be your food” Hippocrates “Anything you take in your body will make you either Healthier or Sicker” Dr. Bergman
  • 2.  juicing removes the indigestible fiber,  when you eat a raw carrot, you are only able to assimilate about 1% of the available beta carotene.  carrot is juiced, removing the fiber, nearly 100% of the beta carotene can be assimilated.
  • 3. Juicing helps you absorb all the nutrients from the vegetables. •most of us have impaired digestion •This limits your body's ability to absorb all the nutrients •Juicing "pre-digest" Juicing allows you to consume an optimal amount of vegetables in an efficient manner. •one pound of raw vegetables per 50 pounds of body weight per day. You can add a wider variety of vegetables in your diet. •Many people eat the same vegetable salads every day. • juicing, you can get a wide variety of vegetables that you may not normally enjoy eating whole
  • 4.  Flavonoids are in fruits and vegetables, as well as in certain types of tea. These compounds are thought to be antioxidants -- compounds capable of 'mopping up' free radicals, the harmful byproducts of normal metabolism.  antioxidants help prevent cancer, heart disease, and other illnesses. The study focused on daily intake of three major sources of flavonoids -- apples, broccoli, and tea.  Of the three sources, only high broccoli consumption was associated with significant reductions in heart attack  American Journal of Epidemiology  May 15, 1999;149:943-949
  • 5.  A study of more than 125,000 healthcare workers found that just one additional daily serving of fruit or vegetables lowered the risk of heart disease by 4%. Vegetables such as spinach , kale , broccoli and fruits such as oranges , grapefruits  particular green leafy vegetables and vitamin C-rich fruits and vegetables, against risk for coronary heart disease.  Increased fruit and vegetable consumption was also found to protect people with type 2 diabetes against heart attack, a potential complication of the disease.  Fruits and vegetables contain myriad compounds that have been linked with improved health. Fiber , potassium , folate , antioxidants  Annals of Internal Medicine June 19, 2001;134:1106-1114
  • 6.  These 2 classes of heart drugs handicap the heart by blocking nerves that control heart muscle.  the blood output of the heart is artificially reduced, causing less oxygen to reach the body’s cells and tissues. The result will be normal blood pressure cuff .  The body is now being forced to go through life with less oxygen than it needs, and organs slowly start wearing out. Premature aging.  Some standard beta blockers: Atenolol ,Propranolol ,Practolol ,Carvedilol  Some ACE inhibitors: Accupril ,Altace ,Captopril ,Lotensin  In addition to the long term destructive side effects of early death from heart disease, cancer, and diabetes  1. • 31.  Ear infections (also called acute otitis media, or AOM) have generally been considered bacterial diseases, which means that they are usually treated with antibiotics.  But new research indicates that viruses are found in a great many ear infection cases, which could complicate treatment.  Antibiotics have no effect on the viruses found in AOM infections, which means that the standard treatment is at best only partially effective for most cases. However, many cases of AOM heal themselves without antibiotic treatment.  The American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Academy of Family Physicians have therefore recommended avoiding antibiotic treatment in mild AOM cases.   Clinical Infectious Diseases December 1, 2006; 43(11): 1417-1422
  • 32. Patients suffering from bronchitis who were given a widely prescribed antibiotic did no better than patients who took a low dose of vitamin C, which is known to be ineffective in treating bronchitis.  Antibiotics don't work for acute bronchitis. Now we have strong evidence saying that it shouldn't be used for this purpose.  The Lancet May 11, 2002;359:1648- 1654

  • 36.  The skin is the first and main line of defense. Skin cells are rich in keratin, which impedes microorganisms from entering the body. Lightly acidic and oily secretions from sebaceous and sweat glands slow the excessive growth of bacteria.  Gastric acid is a powerful defense for the intestines from pathogens. Few species are able to survive the low pH and destructive enzymes that exist in the stomach.  Saliva and tears contain antibacterial enzymes, such as Lysozyme, which destroy the cellular walls of bacteria.  Intestinal Bacteria (normal flora) compete with one another for food and space, diminishing the probability of pathogenic bacteria multiplying in sufficient numbers to cause illness.  Mucus is another defense, coating the mucous membranes. It catches and immobilizes invading bodies, its composition is deadly to many microorganisms.
  • 37.  Phagocytes = Cells that Eat other cells and pathogens  Macrophage = Big cells that eat  Neutrophil ( Bacterial infections): the most abundant type of phagocyte and is always the first to arrive at the scene of infection. The Neutrophil’s do a “respiratory burst” that produces hydrogen peroxide that is a strong oxidizing agent which accomplish destruction of foreign substances and pathogens.
  • 38.  Macrophages: a gigantic cell, that has the capacity to consume many more bacteria than a neutrophil. And can kill viruses, bacteria, fungi, protozoa, and tumor cells. With this powerful mechanism, the only reason sickness still occurs is because it could not function fully.  Basophil : these cells release histamine and also defending against parasites.  Eosinophil : An important part of defense against parasites.
  • 39.  NK cells defend against Viruses and. NK cells are activated by interferon produced by the adrenals  T cells and B cells  The function of T cells and B cells is to recognize specific antigens, Once they have identified an invader, the cells generate specific responses that are tailored to maximally eliminate specific pathogens.  B cells respond to pathogens by producing large quantities of antibodies which then neutralize foreign objects like bacteria and viruses. Following activation, B cells and T cells leave a lasting legacy in the form of memory cells. Throughout your lifetime these memory cells will “remember” each specific pathogen encountered, and are able to mount a strong response if the pathogen is detected again.
  • 40. Immune system at work Phagocytes are cells, such as neutrophils and macrophages , that engulfing destroy pathogens Phagocytosis is also an important part of the cleaning process after cellular destruction following infection or any other process that leads to cellular death. After the battle, both phagocytes and bacteria can be trapped in a pasty liquid rich in stuctural proteins, known as pus.
  • 41.  Antibody  A type of protein made by certain white blood cells in response to a antigen. Each antibody can bind to only a specific antigen. This helps destroy the antigen. Some antibodies destroy antigens directly. Others make it easier for white blood cells to destroy the antigen  Inflammatory Response (how the body Heals)  Inflammation is stimulated by factors released by injured cells. These factors (histamine, bradicine) sensitize pain receptors and cause dilation of the blood vessels at the scene, and also attract phagocytes, especially neutrophils. Phagocytosis causes the neutrophils to release other factors that call lymphocytes and other phagocytes.
  • 42.  People who take aspirin and Tylenol (acetaminophen) suppress their body's ability to produce antibodies to destroy the cold virus. Journal of Infectious Disease Dec 1990
  • 43. A Food and Drug Administration advisory panel voted to ban popular over-the-counter cold products intended for children under the age of 6. The panel found there was no proof that the medicines eased cold symptoms in children, while there are reports that they have caused serious harm. New York Times October 20, 2007
  • 44.  Researchers looked at data from the Scandinavian Lymphoma Etiology study, which compared over 3,000 patients with NHL with a similar number of healthy patients. There was a "striking" association between antibiotic use and NHL for all subtypes of the disease, especially for those who had been given antibiotics more than 10 times as children.  A Cause, Or an Effect?  This could mean that the increasing use of antibiotics in the 20th century might also explain the rise in NHL cases.  Also True for NSAIDs  There was also an increased risk of NHL for heavy users of non-steroidal anti- inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). This includes ibuprofen drugs such as Motrin and Advil.  Sources:  American Journal of Epidemiology November 15, 2005; 162(10): 965-974

A close temporal relationship in the exposure to two of these infections during periods of susceptibility may compound both the risk and severity of autism.... Although historically, these rare patterns of exposure may have accounted for only a small proportion of autism, the widespread use of a combination of the candidate agents in a single vaccine [MMR] may have changed this." 1998 Lancet published a landmark study by Dr. Andrew Wakefield

The numbers are even more staggering when you include ALL hospital infections, not just MRSA, as approximately 1.7 million Americans contracted infections during hospital stays in 2007, and a subsequent 100,000 people perished from these diseases, according to the U.S. Center of Disease Control (CDC).

A bright yellow flower known as inula helenium kills the bacteria, which is resistant to some of the most powerful antibiotics available. Inula helenium grows wild in west Cork and blossoms in late summer. Another herb, pulsatilla vulgaris, was also effective against the disease. When extracts from both plants were tested against a group of 300 staphylococci, including MRSA, inula helenium was 100 percent effective against the superbug. 1. Blues and purples not only add beautiful shades of tranquility and richness to your plate, they add health-enhancing flavonoids, phytochemicals, and antioxidants. The phytochemical known as Anthocyanins are pigments responsible for the blue color in vegetables and fruits, and are being studied for their role in the body’s defense of harmful carcinogens. Blueberries, in particular, are not only rich in Vitamin C and folic acid and high in fiber and potassium, but they are proven to be the #1 source of antioxidants of any food available today.
  2. Included in the white color group are vegetables from the onion family, which include garlic, chives, scallions, leeks, and any variety of onion. These foods contain the phytochemical allicin, which is believed to help lower cholesterol and blood pressure and increase the body’s ability to fight infections. And finally blue/purple.
