Social Intelligence (SI) is the ability to successfully build relationships and navigate social environments. Our society puts a huge emphasis on book smarts and IQ, but our relationships effect a much bigger part of our lives. Social smarts are far more important than your book smarts. Building strong social relationships is worth the effort: Strong relationships improve our immune system and help combat disease. Loneliness and weak relationships are one of the major sources of stress, health problems and depression. Our relationships affect every area of our lives–from colleagues to spouses to friends to kids.

Fear of success involves being afraid of achievement ,often to the point that people will sabotage themselves (Imposter Syndrome). While success is generally viewed as desirable ,there are reasons why people may be fearful of doing too well. It is important to recognize is that people often don’t fear the success itself …instead ,their fear is centred on potential consequence of success. Can also be referred as Success anxiety or success phobia or achievemephobia .Negative impact on overall life satisfaction

Illusory superiority dates back to Confucius and Socrates But Dunning-Kruger Effect (A type of Cognitive Bias)discussion is merely 20 years old A cognitive bias refers to a ‘systematic error’ in the thinking process. Such biases are often connected to a heuristic (a mental shortcut ) Heuristics allow one to make an inference without extensive deliberation and/or reflective judgment These are essentially schemas for solutions (West, Toplak, & Stanovich, 2008). 12 common biases that affect how we make everyday decisions are discussed. New knowledge economy (Dwyer, 2017; Dwyer, Hogan & Stewart, 2014) has opened a new vista of processing information (right or wrong) with the help of internet quickly and effortlessly.

Communication and Perception Communicating in the Real World Perception chpt. 2 all sections http://open.lib.umn.edu/communication/part/chapter-2-communication-and-perception/ Perception Defined The Perception Process Attributions Self-Concept and Self-Esteem Influences on Perception Self-Presentation Improving Perception Agenda Perception refers to the processes of selection, organization and interpretation of the information What we select, the ways we organize it, and the interpretations we assign to it affect the ways we communicate. Perception Defined The Perception Process The Perception Process Selection occurs when we focus our attention on certain incoming sensory information We take in information through all five of our senses, but our perceptual field (the world around us) includes so many stimuli that it is impossible for our brains to process and make sense of it all The Perception Process 1. Selecting We tend to pay attention to information that is salient Salience = the degree to which something attracts our attention in a particular context. The Perception Process Selection--Salience It is probably not surprising to learn that visually and/or aurally stimulating things become salient in our perceptual field and get our attention We tend to select stimuli with certain characteristics: Intensity--stimuli with intensity-a loud bang Size--stimuli that are large in size-very tall or very small Contrast stimuli that contrast with surroundings-a noise in the library Repetition Repetition--stimuli that are repeated http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f_SwD7RveNE The Perception Process Selection—Visual and Aural Stimulation We tend to pay attention to information that we perceive to meet our needs or interests in some way This type of selective attention can help us meet instrumental needs and get things done Example: You are need to study for an exam but your friends are playing video games—your need to study may allow you to shut out the game sounds The Perception Process Selecting—Needs and Interests We can find expected things salient We also find things that are unexpected salient. The Perception Process Selecting--Expectations Organization occurs when we sort and categorize information that we perceive based on innate and learned cognitive patterns Three ways we sort things into patterns are by using proximity, similarity, and difference The Perception Process 2. Organizing Proximity is when we tend to think that things that are close together go together Similarity is when we tend to think similar-looking or similar-acting things belong together Difference is when we assume that the item that looks or acts different from the rest doesn’t belong with the group Perceptual errors involving people and assumptions of difference can be especially awkward, if not offensive The Perception Process Organizing: Proximity, Similarity & Difference .

I'm excited to share my latest predictions on how AI, robotics, and other technological advancements will reshape industries in the coming years. The slides explore the exponential growth of computational power, the future of AI and robotics, and their profound impact on various sectors. Why this matters: The success of new products and investments hinges on precise timing and foresight into emerging categories. This deck equips founders, VCs, and industry leaders with insights to align future products with upcoming tech developments. These insights enhance the ability to forecast industry trends, improve market timing, and predict competitor actions. Highlights: ▪ Exponential Growth in Compute: How $1000 will soon buy the computational power of a human brain ▪ Scaling of AI Models: The journey towards beyond human-scale models and intelligent edge computing ▪ Transformative Technologies: From advanced robotics and brain interfaces to automated healthcare and beyond ▪ Future of Work: How automation will redefine jobs and economic structures by 2040 With so many predictions presented here, some will inevitably be wrong or mistimed, especially with potential external disruptions. For instance, a conflict in Taiwan could severely impact global semiconductor production, affecting compute costs and related advancements. Nonetheless, these slides are intended to guide intuition on future technological trends.

Heather Hedden, Senior Consultant at Enterprise Knowledge, presented “Enterprise Knowledge Graphs: The Importance of Semantics” on May 9, 2024, at the annual Data Summit in Boston. In her presentation, Hedden describes the components of an enterprise knowledge graph and provides further insight into the semantic layer – or knowledge model – component, which includes an ontology and controlled vocabularies, such as taxonomies, for controlled metadata. While data experts tend to focus on the graph database components (RDF triple store or a label property graph), Hedden emphasizes they should not overlook the importance of the semantic layer.
