Saint George is a Roman soldier from the 3rd century said to have killed a dragon. While historical details are scarce, popular legends describe Saint George saving a princess from a dragon by slaying the beast. In Catalonia, the legend of Saint George and the dragon is celebrated annually on April 23rd, known as Sant Jordi. On this day, it is a tradition for girls to gift boys books and boys to gift girls roses, symbolizing love and friendship.
