For example Westerns are
stereo-typically set in the
American Mid-West as
historically this is where cowboys
originated.
Whereas Sci-Fi films, such as
Star Wars, are often set in space
as the films will feature other
worlds or space travel
3. Costume, Props and Make-Up
Costume is another element of misé en scene and is very
important in creating meaning as a costume can depict
something about character and a time frame for when a scene is
set.
For example War films will
involve characters in camouflage
clothing as this is a stereotypical
outfit for a soldier.
Period Dramas involve
characters that suggest the
period the film is set in.
4. Actors, Body Language and Facial
Expressions
Actors, Body Language and Facial Expressions will all
carry connotations that express something about the
character.
5. Lighting
The lighting in a film scene can connote a certain mood
that the director is trying to achieve.
