OBSERVATION SHEET
Name of the Resource Teachers observed: Mrs. Candelaria Torrevillas
Mrs. Liezel Caermare
Mrs. Ma. Cristina Galgo
School Address: GCCNHS Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental Date: Aug. 3, 2016
Grade/Year Level: Grade 9 and 7 Subject Area: English, Science and Math
Guiding Principles in the Selection and
Use of Strategies
Teaching Behavior/s of the Resource
Teacher that Applies the Principles
1. Learning is an active process. 1. On my observation the teacher
prepared various activities for the
students so that they are always
involved in the learning process.
During the lesson proper students
engage in activities, such as
reading, writing, discussion, problem
solving, and collaborative activities
which I think helped a lot on the
students’ analysis, synthesis, and
evaluation of the class content.
2. The more senses are involve, the
more and the better the learning.
2. During the whole period I think only
three senses were emphasized by
the teacher which is sense of sight,
when she provided the students
novelty of instructional materials,
sense of hearing, when the
discussion was going on student
interactions and student-teacher
conversation occurred, sense of
touch, when the activity that the
teacher provided involves holding to
any object which is considered as
matter. The teacher’s involvement of
the senses during the learning
experience made me realize that
retaining information that you had
actually experienced lasts longer
than those you do not actually sense
or experience.
3. A non – threatening environment
enhances learning.
3. As what I had observed, from the
beginning up to the end of the class
the teacher really provided a
conducive and a non-threatening
learning environment. She was not
scary in the classroom rather she is
friendly towards her students, even
though the teacher is friendly,
discipline was also implemented in
the class, bullying was apprehended
to save students from humiliation, it is
due to the fact that before the class
had started classroom rules were
introduced and I guess it was
successful because the whole
period was harmonious and
peaceful which resulted to better
understanding and learning.
4. Emotion has the power to increase
retention and learning.
4. During my class observation,
emotion really has the power to
increase retention. The teacher was
jolly enough to motivate and
stimulate class attention, the
teacher is also humorous which
made the whole class laugh, she
gives praises to the answers of the
students which are right and
responded to the wrong answers
appropriately so that the student’s
feelings is not hurt and will not be
afraid to try again. During the
evaluation, the students got high
scores ranging from 17 – 20 out of
the 20 items quiz, this really suggests
that the teachers’ humor, attitude,
and etc. made the students focus
on the subject matter and retain the
information due to the fun learning
experience then as a result they got
high scores in the evaluation.
5. Good teaching goes beyond
recall of information.
5. As what I had witnessed the
teacher, asked a student to answer
the question and to defend his
answer. So, by doing this the Higher
Order of Thinking Skills or HOTS is
being developed, there is still recall
but it goes beyond by letting the
students make use of the principles,
and other relevant information to be
connected. It is also a good
evaluation to see if students really
understand the subject being
discussed.
6. Learning is meaningful when it is
connected to the students’
everyday life.
6. During the lesson proper the teacher
discussed about matter, elements
and compounds then during the
discussion she had connected the
topic to real life situations , just like
the condiments that they use in their
households are examples of
elements and compounds, the chair
that they sit on is an example of
matter. She also integrated socio
political issues regarding the
Scarborough shoal; the teacher said
that China is claiming that area
because it is rich in natural resources
which include rare compounds and
elements.
7. An integrated teaching approach
is far more effective than teaching
isolated bits of information.
7. As what I had observed the teacher
promotes the importance of
individual differences , such as their
learning styles and multiple
intelligences because she had
prepared and employed variety of
activities that would cater the
individual difference of the learners
and by doing that I can really say
that the approach that she had
used is the integrated approach.
MY ANALYSIS
1. Are these principles in accordance with brain – based teaching and learning?
Yes, these principles are in accordance with brain-based teaching and
learning. I can say that because Brain-based teaching and learning refers
to teaching methods, lesson designs, and school programs that are based on the
latest scientific research about how the brain learns, including such factors as
cognitive development—how students learn differently as they age, grow, and
mature socially, emotionally, and cognitively. The following principles stated
above involves mental processes, metacognition as well as how the brain
performs in association with the current emotion that the learners have and that
learning is an active process which really proves that it is in accordance with the
brain- based teaching and learning.
My Reflections
What is the best method of teaching? Is there such thing?
For me, there is no such thing as the best teaching method, but there is only
an appropriate teaching method. It is due to the fact that every learner is unique
that is why teachers should know their students well, because one of the main
factors to consider in choosing a teaching method is the nature of your learners
so, versatility and flexibility is what a teacher must possess in order to cater the
students various needs considering also their different learning styles, and
multiple intelligences.
