1. Position Available:
Literacy Volunteers of Upshur County is
seeking applicants for our 2011-2012
Americorps*VISTA position.
Literacy Volunteers is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing
free tutoring services to adults in Upshur County with low literacy levels.
Our ideal candidate is someone who:
-is focused, creative, and independently-motivated.
-is computer-savvy, especially with MS Office programs.
-has solid writing skills.
Some of the duties and responsibilities of the position include:
-planning and executing fundraising projects.
-lining up tutors and volunteers for various projects.
-grant-writing and networking.
-general office management, and the myriad duties that
arise when attempting to keep a non-profit
organization afloat.
If you are up to the challenge, this position is exciting, fun and extremely rewarding
and is an excellent way to accrue some valuable job experience and give back to the
Upshur County community. The contract year will run from August 2011 to August
2012 with an opportunity for renewal at the end of the contract year, making this
position ideal for a gap year or as a starting or temporary job.
Americorps*VISTA is one of the oldest national service programs in the United States; its mission is
to send able volunteers to areas of the country that would benefit from their services, which are
