It involves managing messages to generate meanings within social contexts and cultures. Communicative competence allows people to share or negotiate meaning through self-presentation, relationship, and instrumental goals. It is demonstrated by one's degree of satisfaction in achieving goals without jeopardizing further opportunities, as well as the ability to function appropriately in communicative settings through knowledge of linguistic forms.
