2. Today a number of colleges and universities around the country are offering programs to prepare students for careers in the intelligence community This presentation will describe how this is being done

At about 40 or 50 colleges or universities today, students can major or minor in intelligence studies Major – leads to a Bachelor’s degree in the program Usually requires from 45 – 75 credits to earn a degree Minor – is a significant area of study that may complement or supplement the major area of study Usually requires 15 – 30 credits to earn a minor (Actual requirements depend on the college or university)

Adults who wish to further their education but who may not want to pursue a graduate degree can earn a certificate in intelligence studies Certificate programs can be completed in about a year depending on the number of courses that are required Adults who enter these programs usually are required to have an Associate’s (2 year) Degree, Bachelor’s Degree or other professional training These programs may be available online Program requirements vary according to the institutions that offer them A few colleges/universities do offer undergraduate certificates in intelligence/national security studies

Persons seeking employment in the intelligence community will be subject to rigorous background checks Your behavior in high school will come under scrutiny when you apply for a job in the IC Selling or using drugs, computer hacking, committing felony crimes and financial mismanagement are all red flags to investigators doing background checks

10. However, the Coast Guard Academy does have a program of intelligence studies for undergraduates High school graduates between the ages of 17-22, who are U.S. citizens of sound moral character and unmarried may apply for admission

Students in the Intelligence Analysis & Research Program will also receive instruction in specialized computer programming used by intelligence analysts Notre Dame College is a member of the Collegiate Partnership Program , sponsored by the i2 Corporation, manufacturers of specialized analytical software for the intelligence community. The College has received their Analyst’s Notebook software package for our students to use This will give students who complete the program successfully an additional set of skills to take with them as they begin their careers
