1. SAMBA DANCE
Samba is a specific type of rhythmic Brazilian dance that is generally
danced to the tune of Samba music. However, samba music is often
danced in 2/4 times but as there are three steps to every bar (slow,
quick-quick), people generally feel like one is dancing in ¾ time instead of
the 2/4 time.
The samba rhythm is full of energy and it creates excitement for people
to start dancing without inhibition. The ballroom samba dance is a
partner dance and it is not restricted to a single version only. Some of
the available versions of samba are namely, Carnivale, a Batucado, a Baion,
Carioca, Mesemba, Conga, et al. However, certain similarities do exist
among these various versions of samba and the difference among them is
highlighted in the technique and tempo of its variations.
The ballroom samba dance is a typical dance form which is modified for
its appropriateness as a partner dance. The dance movements of ballroom
samba dancing have taken certain movements from Afro-Brazilian
traditional dances. It is also notable that the ballroom samba can be
danced with the original samba music as well as with cha-cha-cha,
flamenco and other South American rhythms.
The samba dancing taught in European and North American ballrooms is
like a waltz and it is like moving around the floor with a firm bounce.The
samba dance style has grown up to be extremely popular due to the
festive mood exhibited by the dance style and it is considered to be one
among the five Latin American dances that are highly popular at
competitions.
