Since 2005, Findwise is a specialised consultancy creating customised solutions based on search technology - helping organisations to find relevant information. From the start we have held a unique expertise in search technology and have developers with vast experience from multiple commercial search products as well as open source technologies. However, we realised fairly early that a successful search project does not only involve technology and that having the most skilled developers is not enough. To utilise the full potential and receive return on search technology investments there are five main dimensions (or perspectives) that all need to be in focus when developing search solutions, and that require additional competencies to be involved.
This holistic approach to implementing search technology is labelled Findability by Findwise.
It all starts from the business, why should the organisation invest in search technology? We need to understand the organisation’s strategies and goals and the related Findability challenges in order to wisely utilise search technology to address those. Either it is to support internal information access needs or provide information to external customers.
Of course, it is information that we are handling. While the technology can perform some magic we need to analyse the content quality and make sure that both new and existing information is published and structured in order to be optimally findable.
The organisation perspective refers to what happens once the solution is delivered. We need to make sure that ownership and a process is established to maintain, analyse, manage and refine the search solution to address the organisations needs over time.
At last, the technology is of course the centre piece of the solution. We need to make sure that the most suitable technology is selected based on the specific requirements of the organisation and that the technology is used to its full potential.
Findwise competencies and offering have evolved over the years to address all dimensions and to make sure that search technology is implemented in the best way to bring value to all types of organisations.
When all dimensions are considered, we label the result a search-driven Findability solution – not only allowing users to search and pull information from the system but also using the ability of search technology to personalise and bring intelligence to the system by pushing information to the users and ensure that they have access to the information that they need! This is what we call Findability by Findwise.
