- You’ve probably have heard a lot about the Internet of Things. There are big numbers being thrown around. Here is some data from three of the industry analysts we follow. According to McKinsey & Co., the major adoption for IoT solutions in the next 5 years will not be in the consumer space - smart appliances, smart energy systems for our homes, etc. Rather, governments and businesses will be driving more than 70% of the adoption of IoT solutions. Gartner predicts that there will be over 25 Billion connected “things” by 2020. According to latest IDC’s report, the IoT market is expected to be $1.7 trillion by 2020. And, in the same time frame, we can expect all of these “things” to be generating 44 zettabytes of data – that’s 44 trillion gigabytes.
- In addition to being vital for our future, cities are the hubs of action—business, trade, technology, innovation… Think about it. 6.5 billion people will live in cities by 2050. Most will likely have ubiquitous access to Internet and broadband. An estimated 60% of those citizens, or more, will have access to smart services. And there will be volumes and volumes of valuable data What can be done with this? Use technology, citizen engagement, and data to build new ways to live, work, and play in the future.
