OBJECTIVES
1.Identify the main role of educational technology
in the teaching-learning process.
2.Synthesize the meaning of Educational
Technology.
INTRODUCTIO
N
The current educational landscape
has changed significantly with the
introduction of new technologies.
They have affected the way people
live, work, play and learn.
These new technologies have challenged the
time-tested methods and approaches in teaching
and the way education is managed. The last
couple of years, administrators of schools, colleges,
and universities have been preoccupied in putting
up computer laboratories and in procuring
hardware and software so as to keep abreast with
the fast changing mode of teaching and learning.
We also hear such terms as registration on line, on screen
monitoring form, e-learning, virtual university, internet access, e-
mail, and others.
There has been a shift in
the roles that teachers that
teachers play in the classroom
from that of a purveyor of
knowledge to that of a
facilitator or a guide in the
quest for knowledge. Teachers
are no longer considered as the
sole source of knowledge, but
the planner, the facilitator and
organizer of a technology-
based learning environment
where students can play an
active role in learning and in
evaluating their own learning.
Educational Technology
had shifted from mere devices
and materials to the
examination and facilitation of
the total learning process.
Questions like the following are
asked: How does learning take
place? What conditions
facilitate learning? What makes
learning more permanent? The
answers to these questions
seemed to have been found.
It is the application and utilization of educational
technology as this enables the students to imbibe information,
concepts or ideas through two or more modalities(audio, visual,
tactile). It is believed that learning is more impressive when two or
more of the senses are involved.

Technology
EVALUATION
It means considering the
merits of the materials used, its
strengths and weaknesses as a tool
for learning. It includes many
aspects of considerations like size,
attractiveness, relevance and
economy, ease of handling,
novelty and practicality. But the
most important consideration is
whether or not the technology
facilitated learning.
TECHNOLOGY
It is the science of
the application of
knowledge to practical
purposes in a particular
field. It also means the
totality of the means
employed by a group of
people to provide itself
with the objects of
material culture.
EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY
It is the development, application and
evaluation of systems, techniques and aids to
improve the process of learning. (Council for
Educational Technology for the United
Kingdom 1997)
It is a systematic way of designing,
implementing, and evaluating the total
learning and teaching process in terms of
specific objectives based on research on
human learning and communication; and
employing a combination of human and non-
human resources to bring about more effective
instruction. (Commission on Instructional
Technology in the US)
The application of the results of
researches or scientific studies, which
may be material or non-material to
improve teaching and learning. (Garo
2004)
A field of study of human learning and
deals with complex, integrated process
involving people, procedures, ideas,
devices and strategies for analyzing
problems and deriving solutions to those
problems.
Educational technology is the use of
tools by teachers to improve their
capacity to educate students.
To synthesize the different definitions, one
common line would be the use of tools or
devices to improve human learning. The
definitions reflect the interrelationships of the
elements of teaching and learning with
instructional tools or with technology tools to
be able to promote quality instruction.
APPLICATION
Choose between traditional and modern way of
teaching. Which one do you prefer? Write your answer
on a piece of paper provide for you. Paste your answer
in the cartolina on the board.
EVALUATION
1.As a future educator, how can you cope to
the ever changing form of education in our
country? Cite some examples.
2.Give your own definition of Educational
Technology.
