The document discusses the use of e-portfolios for RPL assessment of employees of Fortescue Metals Group located in South Hedland, WA. Challenger Institute of Technology provided the e-portfolio platform Mahara to allow remote assessment of candidates for Certificates II/III in Horticulture. Issues included professional development for assessors, evidence gathering processes, and some reticence to participate. Going forward, opportunities to expand RPL programs using online platforms were discussed.
Moodle course The Challenger Institute of Technology's Australian Centre for Energy and Process Training (ACEPT) in collaboration with Birla Nifty Copper Operations has developed this online recognition of prior learning (RPL) process for employees who are experienced but do not hold formal qualifications. Employees wishing to undertake RPL assessment to have their current skills and knowledge formally recognised are required to develop an e-portfolio that will contain evidence to be assessed by a qualified Assessor.

Portfolios may include: personal statements that outline the participant’s skills and knowledge against the standards and the main items of evidence used to support their claim a resumé (outlining past experience and qualifications) testimonials workplace documents awards, training records/qualifications case studies plans, budgets project reports, charts, surveys, diagrams, graphs journal or diary entries letters, copies of emails, memos, agendas, minutes of meetings.

The file structure on the USB has been established to support you in providing evidence for your RPL application.
