Argumentative Essay Of A Memoir
I think the easiest paper to write is the memoir. A memoir is a personal essay about a significant
memory in someone's life. This essay is more personal; therefore, the author can choose how to
build his memory. Also, through a memoir the reader can see part of the authors past by using vivid
detail.
An augmentative paper I think is harder to write because it needs a lot of details to create a good
paper. First an argument has to be developed, then a claim is needed to support the argument, and
finally a refuting argument should be included. This are only part of the requirement needed for an
augmentative essay. What's more important is the evidence, it has to be chosen wisely.
Ii believe that the paper that is most used in college is writing

Memoir Short Story
Memoir Rough Draft It was a cool November morning when I arrived at my new home. The wind
was blowing the birds were chirping and the trees were dancing in the cool autumn breeze. Many
things have happened to and in this house and this is an account of these events. My family and I
had just taken the four hour journey from Fayetteville, North Carolina to Fredericksburg, Virginia. I
was very excited to see my new home but, my excitement had soon faltered when I finally saw it. It
was a medium sized house with yellow aluminum siding, blue shutters, a two–car garage and eleven
windows. The only thing that made it different from the rest of the houses that lined the street was
its full porch and its color other than that it was completely identical

If You Knew Then What I Know Now Analysis
Memoir essay is a story telling of a person about significant memory in his life, by using appropriate
structure and vivid images. The two essays which are the perfect example for memoir essay would
be "If You Knew Then What I Know Now" by Ryan Van Meter and "Physical Evidence" by Kelly
Grey Carlisle. The two essay are really good not just because they have great contexts that attract
readers, but they also use Aristotelian appeals, tension building, and non–linear chronology to polish
their essay. The first common thing about the twoessays is that both authors rely heavily on pathos
and ethos to tell their story. In Meter's essay, he uses ethos in order to persuade the readers to listen
to his advice because he had been through all of...show more content...
In "Physical evidence" Carlisle tells a story that would make everyone pauses and thinks about it
for a minute because it is very horrifying and very sad. Her story is special, not many people have
experienced that in their life. While in "If You Knew Then What I Know Now", Meter has a
story that is very relatable. A story about bullying can happen to anyone, also he tells it in a very
different way, which can make the reader put themselves in Meter's position. Both of the two
memoir essays are very attracting because it is very real. It is what actually happened to
somebody, which give them the advantage to tell it in a vivid way. Everyone loves to write about
themselves; they all want to share their story. That is why memoir is a very popular form of creative

My Autobiography : My Memoir Essay
My Memoir
I remember myself sitting near a little block with letters and my mother teaching me the name of
each of them. She starts to sing me a song to help me to memorize the alphabet. It is so funny
singing the ABC song. At that instant, the door opens, and my father enters the room. That is the
first thing carved in my memory, and each time when I think about it, I conclude that we are the best
family in the world.
Starting from my first days of life, my parents did everything to please me; additionally, they always
tried to do their best to develop my literacy skills and help me to become smarter. I always loved
learning and each time when they made up some game or a new interaction, it was great fun to
play. I had no idea that learning could be challenging because each task that they offered was easy
to accomplish and absolutely doable for me. I grew up knowing that there was no process more
exciting than learning. Besides, at the back of my mind, I was convinced that every new thing I
learned was changing me for better. When I became a schoolboy, my parents were pleased whenever
my grades were excellent. I wanted them to feel pleased and happy all the time. At the beginning,
I strived to get an A to deserve some reward; for instance, getting some ice cream seemed to be a
sufficient motivation for me to learn a long text or do loads of assignments. However, later on, I
started getting delighted just because when I managed to learn something new, my knowledge made

Figurative Language Of The Memoir
The Memoir is different compared to the other essays we did over the course of the first semester.
This essay required us to write about our ourselves, while the other essays focused on a single
story. In this memoir, we used more personification to describe objects. We used metaphors,
similes, and figurative language to advance the plot. Speaking about plot, we had to use a n
incident in our life as a plot for our story. On the other essays, there was no plot. We write about
what is the theme of the story and provide facts to back it up. The memoir on the other hand is
more complexed. We had to use plot development. We had to create our exposition, rising action,
climax, falling action, and finally resolution. The memoir was more of a story,

My Memoir Of My Life
My Memoir
Broken. My world is crashing before my eyes. How will any of this ever be okay again? Oh, that's
right. It won't. Let me explain. It all started going downhill in February 2017. My best friend, my
inspiration, my grandpa was ill. Over the next few months he got weaker. He wasn't able to do
anything on his own. He couldn't walk, eat, drink, shower, you name it, he couldn't do it. It was
honestly and truly, the hardest thing i've ever had to watch. You go from seeing your hero funny,
energetic, strong, and happy to weak, lifeless, and sad. Skip forward a little bit more and he was
put into the hospital in May. I wasn't able to visit him because every time I'd start to go, I'd have a
panic attack. I was finally...show more content...
The taste of tears was as if sadness could be a flavor. I don 't want him to go. I didn 't even care how
selfish it was of me, I didn 't want to lose him. All I knew was that in less than 24 hours, I wouldn 't
have my best friend with me anymore. A few hours later, when everyone was talking amongst
themselves, I found myself at the side of the hospital bed. I gently grabbed his hand, trying to
remember what it would feel like so I could always feel like he was with me. "It's ok to let go,
Papaw." I said. He knew I wasn 't talking about letting go of my hand. "I won 't be mad, I promise
you. I'll be ok, and you 'll feel better." I whispered, as a tear slowly fell down my cheek. He squeezed
my hand. I know it 's crazy but in that moment, during that hand squeeze, I knew God would take
over, and make sure my grandpa was in good hands. Later that night, as we were leaving, we said
our final goodbyes. All of our last words to him were as simple, yet as wonderful as "I love you." I,
of course, cried on the way out, and as we headed home, I dozed off in the car. When we got home,
my eyes were sore and puffy, and my head ached like it never had before. I couldn 't make it up to
my bed, so I curled up on the couch, and dreamed of simpler times. I remember crystal clearly, I
woke up, 4:55 AM. I felt lost, not your typical "Woah, where am I" kind of lost, but almost like a

My Father is a Living Holocaust Memoir Essay
My Father is The Living Holocaust Memoir
When you hear " Holocaust Survivor" you think of a new beginning, a better future, victory at last."
But what happens when parents bring a child into this world and their priority is to love and protect
their baby In a better and safe place have been traumatized of the past with incredible amount of
horrifying memories and experiences? In Art Spiegelman's graphic novels, MAUS 1 and MAUS 2,
he exposes the true story of his father, Vladek, and his experience as a Jew throughout the Holocaust
through pictures and sketchy storytelling. The relationship between Art and his father is the
essential description in the book as Art has no other way to escape from being victimized by his
own father's...show more content...
It's obviously showed that with Vladek actions towards people we can understand why they feel
so low. Vladek throughout the story, he stresses the importance of his heart (comparing himself of
how heroic and very strong he use to be). "It's good for my heart..the pedaling.." (1 12) All the
sweat, blood and tears (energy) it took to survive the Holocaust seems to build up and haunt
Vladek as present (life now). He needs to know that everyone ages and he has to accept the fact that
he's getting old and he cannot be what he once was and that's young again doing all the skillful
things he use to do.
To further exacerbate the situation, a typical father son relationship is all about bonding, trust and
understanding each other. Seemingly he's not able to do so because of the distress overpowering
his brain, he continues to be insensitive to Art. Art can't fathom Vladek and he starts to lose hope
by saying to Francois his women, "I mean, I can't even make any sense out of my relationship with
my father..how am I supposed to make sense out of Auschwitz?..the Holocaust?" (MAUS 2 14) Art
later on start to get the sense of hope again and make better out of worse and asked Vladek
questions of his mother Anja. Art finds out that her "diaries" (MAUS 1 159) we're destroyed
purposely by Vladek. Not only does Art feel hopeless because his mother is gone but now he can't
even share her voice with the world today. There was no way of expressing her

English 101 Memoir Essay
The snow had all but melted away and the smell of spring filled the air. Just a few months of
school were left; it was my eighth grade year. Much preparation and months of work had been
done to get ready for the last dance of the year. It was the last dance of our middle school career and
the excitement was building.
It all began with shopping. First with my girlfriends over the years, goofing off on trips to the
mall trying on gorgeous flowing gowns for fun, and then it was finally time for me to buy one,
finally a formal occasion where I got to dress up in a fancy gown with high heels, my Mom took me
to the mall. Even though it wasn't quite prom, it was still a formal dance, a celebration of completing

We burst out of the door, unveiling ourselves to the crowd outside. We felt like rock stars.
Everyone had to get a few more pictures with other friends as they arrived and then we filed
inside. The place was decorated from top to bottom, glittered stars hung from the ceiling, white
Christmas lights twinkled all around, and glimmering gowns in every color made the entire
venue sparkle. As a class, months earlier, we had chosen the theme, "I've had the time of my life".
The girls had pulled it from our favorite movie, "Dirty Dancing", and I think the boys just went
with it. We sat down for dinner where we were served our choice of meat, with rice or potatoes
and a medley of veggies. Nobody ate much though, either because of nerves, vanity, or just plain
desire to get to showing off our best moves, we wanted to boogie! After about an hour the tables
were cleared off of the dance floor and it was time to the highly anticipated partying. The DJ
played the hottest jams of 1999 and we danced the night away. Most of the girls were in their bare
feet, unable to take the pain of high heels any longer as we busted our best moves. The night was
coming to an end; parents were slowly showing up to collect their kids. The DJ announced it was
the last song of the night. It was our theme song. Jaimie and I swayed together on the dance floor
belting out the words we knew by heart when we heard what sounded like

Memoir: A Short Story
Memoir
How much impact can life and death make in someone's life? In my case, both the death of
someone and the life of someone gave me a completely different view on life. No matter what the
age, life and death will impact a person in one way or another, whether they thought it would or not.
Death.
During the entire time period if my life, I have experienced many changes. Death can change an
entire person's life in an instant. This is what happened to me, as my life was changed in an
instant. I learned to not take a person's life for granted. K.D. Gleason had been a family friend for

Whether it's a new sibling, a niece or nephew, or even your own baby, everything just dramatically
changed. Having a newborn is a lot of work and I found that out after my big sister had the baby. I
didn't know that this baby would make such a huge difference in even my life. Four months ago
on May 11 of 2014, my sister gave birth to her first born child, Zoey Jane. It was a very happy and
exciting time for everyone, especially for myself as I was finally an aunt. When my sister finally
got to go home and stay home after many medical things came up, I stayed to help her for a week
because she had had a cesarean section and couldn't quite do everything she needed to do. Being
there for my sister was a great thing, but it made me realize just how much work having a
newborn child was. It was nonstop labor for the baby and her mother, much of which I became
part of. Even though my sister was 27, she was having a very hard time keeping up with Zoey and
all of her needs. Seeing my big sister struggle was a wake up call for me. Realizing how hard it
actually was having a new baby, made me want to make better choices and not have a child until I
knew it was the right time, the right time being when I could handle a baby, physically, emotionally
and also financially. At the moment I have no desire to have a child. In fact, having my first child
at the age of 27 doesn't seem so bad after

Dry: A Memoir Essay
After finishing this memoir, there is no denying that the main character, Augusten Burroughs, has a
problem. From a very young age his alcoholic tendencies (coupled with other drug use) have caused
hardships for both himself and those around him. As he aged, so his alcoholism increased. In Dry: A
memoir we get to see Augusten's challenging journey from a life revolving around alcohol to
sobriety. As previously mentioned, it is undeniable that Augusten did have a problem. But, does this
automatically mean he is clinically diagnosable with an alcohol related disorder? Unfortunately, in
this case, the answer is yes. Augusten Burroughs is not only diagnosable for clinical substance
dependence, but could be considered the poster child of the...show more content...
At the age of 18, he drinks five drinks a night to get drunk. By the time he is 20 this had moved up
to 10 drinks a night to get drunk, with the occasion (self–labeled) binge. The fact that Augusten has
said that his binges go well beyond the clinical definition of a binge. There is a strong argument
that the clinical level of a binge (4 drinks for women, 5 for men) is too small for truly problematic
drinking (Wechsler, 1998). By the time Augusten was 21, he was drinking a liter of Dewar's
along with cocktails. Overall, it is impossible to deny that as Augusten got older and his drinking
habits progressed, he developed a very strong tolerance for alcohol. When Augusten was checked
into his rehab center, he had relatively few symptoms of clinical withdrawal. The only major one
pointed out was a high blood pressure, which could have easily been due to the journey in which
he knew he was about to embark on. But, it is a different story altogether when he is in the midst
of a relapse. After a sleepless, sick feeling night, Augusten falls into withdrawal. It starts with
hallucinations of spiders (criterion B.5 for the DSM diagnosis of withdrawal). After 24 hours of
no alcohol he feels as if he is dying. His body is shaking and his hands have such bad tremors "they
vibrate" (criterion B.2). His heart rate has increased dramatically (Criterion B.1) to the point that it
"woke me up...beating so wildly in my chest...like someone pounding on the front door". The

a time period where I had to drive daily to Westwood, and I remember taking my homework, books,

My reading experience has had a lot of ups and downs. I was never an over–achiever in my language

Once we made it out, i could see my mother holding my sister outside in our driveway, and her

player once the play turns. The idea of playing such an important position thrilled me, and it didn't
hurt that the goalkeeper gets the opportunity to use their hands as well as punt the ball across the

I'm sure many have shared stories of their high school experiences and can relate when I say those
four years have taught me many lessons. During this time, I'd come face to face with the fraudulent
friendships, temporary romances, and other high school dramas that my parents once warned me
about–those of which I simply brushed off as myths. It wasn't the 90's anymore– times have changed
and people are different–or at least, that's what I thought.
I think I speak for many people when I say high school is a critical point in one's life. Coming into
high school, things seemed to be tightly–knitted between my peers and I; those of us who had just

Her behavior had become odd and her attitude was unusual. The once timid, soft–spoken girl was
now, to be blunt–a b*tch. The start of this tumultuous path was a relationship she had ended a few
months prior to date. The guy was a complete control freak. He was manipulative, conniving, and
downright degrading.
What I thought was a new beginning for her and another chance at happiness, had actually turned
out to be a complete disaster. It turned out that she had been involved with him all along. Rather
than being honest with us, she lied continuously. We expressed to her that if he brought her
happiness then we had no say so. We had no other option but to be happy for her. However, she still
insisted that she'd cut all ties with him.
For my eighteenth birthday the three of us made a pact to get matching tattoos in honor of our
friendship; it would've been the first for each of us. Needless to say, she ruined our plans entirely.
One day she'd informed us that her older sister was going to get a tattoo and that she was going
for "moral support". What turned out to be a trip to the tattoo parlor with her sister was actually a
cover up for her to go and get matching tattoos with her ex. Till this day, I believe I never would've
known that if I hadn't seen the text messages of her conversation with someone else. It baffled me
that she could be completely open and honest with a stranger as opposed to the people she called

Memoir Essays

  • 1. Argumentative Essay Of A Memoir I think the easiest paper to write is the memoir. A memoir is a personal essay about a significant memory in someone's life. This essay is more personal; therefore, the author can choose how to build his memory. Also, through a memoir the reader can see part of the authors past by using vivid detail. An augmentative paper I think is harder to write because it needs a lot of details to create a good paper. First an argument has to be developed, then a claim is needed to support the argument, and finally a refuting argument should be included. This are only part of the requirement needed for an augmentative essay. What's more important is the evidence, it has to be chosen wisely. Ii believe that the paper that is most used in college is writing Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Memoir Short Story Memoir Rough Draft It was a cool November morning when I arrived at my new home. The wind was blowing the birds were chirping and the trees were dancing in the cool autumn breeze. Many things have happened to and in this house and this is an account of these events. My family and I had just taken the four hour journey from Fayetteville, North Carolina to Fredericksburg, Virginia. I was very excited to see my new home but, my excitement had soon faltered when I finally saw it. It was a medium sized house with yellow aluminum siding, blue shutters, a two–car garage and eleven windows. The only thing that made it different from the rest of the houses that lined the street was its full porch and its color other than that it was completely identical Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. If You Knew Then What I Know Now Analysis Memoir essay is a story telling of a person about significant memory in his life, by using appropriate structure and vivid images. The two essays which are the perfect example for memoir essay would be "If You Knew Then What I Know Now" by Ryan Van Meter and "Physical Evidence" by Kelly Grey Carlisle. The two essay are really good not just because they have great contexts that attract readers, but they also use Aristotelian appeals, tension building, and non–linear chronology to polish their essay. The first common thing about the twoessays is that both authors rely heavily on pathos and ethos to tell their story. In Meter's essay, he uses ethos in order to persuade the readers to listen to his advice because he had been through all of...show more content... In "Physical evidence" Carlisle tells a story that would make everyone pauses and thinks about it for a minute because it is very horrifying and very sad. Her story is special, not many people have experienced that in their life. While in "If You Knew Then What I Know Now", Meter has a story that is very relatable. A story about bullying can happen to anyone, also he tells it in a very different way, which can make the reader put themselves in Meter's position. Both of the two memoir essays are very attracting because it is very real. It is what actually happened to somebody, which give them the advantage to tell it in a vivid way. Everyone loves to write about themselves; they all want to share their story. That is why memoir is a very popular form of creative Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. My Autobiography : My Memoir Essay My Memoir I remember myself sitting near a little block with letters and my mother teaching me the name of each of them. She starts to sing me a song to help me to memorize the alphabet. It is so funny singing the ABC song. At that instant, the door opens, and my father enters the room. That is the first thing carved in my memory, and each time when I think about it, I conclude that we are the best family in the world. Starting from my first days of life, my parents did everything to please me; additionally, they always tried to do their best to develop my literacy skills and help me to become smarter. I always loved learning and each time when they made up some game or a new interaction, it was great fun to play. I had no idea that learning could be challenging because each task that they offered was easy to accomplish and absolutely doable for me. I grew up knowing that there was no process more exciting than learning. Besides, at the back of my mind, I was convinced that every new thing I learned was changing me for better. When I became a schoolboy, my parents were pleased whenever my grades were excellent. I wanted them to feel pleased and happy all the time. At the beginning, I strived to get an A to deserve some reward; for instance, getting some ice cream seemed to be a sufficient motivation for me to learn a long text or do loads of assignments. However, later on, I started getting delighted just because when I managed to learn something new, my knowledge made me Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Figurative Language Of The Memoir The Memoir is different compared to the other essays we did over the course of the first semester. This essay required us to write about our ourselves, while the other essays focused on a single story. In this memoir, we used more personification to describe objects. We used metaphors, similes, and figurative language to advance the plot. Speaking about plot, we had to use a n incident in our life as a plot for our story. On the other essays, there was no plot. We write about what is the theme of the story and provide facts to back it up. The memoir on the other hand is more complexed. We had to use plot development. We had to create our exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and finally resolution. The memoir was more of a story, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. My Memoir Of My Life My Memoir Broken. My world is crashing before my eyes. How will any of this ever be okay again? Oh, that's right. It won't. Let me explain. It all started going downhill in February 2017. My best friend, my inspiration, my grandpa was ill. Over the next few months he got weaker. He wasn't able to do anything on his own. He couldn't walk, eat, drink, shower, you name it, he couldn't do it. It was honestly and truly, the hardest thing i've ever had to watch. You go from seeing your hero funny, energetic, strong, and happy to weak, lifeless, and sad. Skip forward a little bit more and he was put into the hospital in May. I wasn't able to visit him because every time I'd start to go, I'd have a panic attack. I was finally...show more content... The taste of tears was as if sadness could be a flavor. I don 't want him to go. I didn 't even care how selfish it was of me, I didn 't want to lose him. All I knew was that in less than 24 hours, I wouldn 't have my best friend with me anymore. A few hours later, when everyone was talking amongst themselves, I found myself at the side of the hospital bed. I gently grabbed his hand, trying to remember what it would feel like so I could always feel like he was with me. "It's ok to let go, Papaw." I said. He knew I wasn 't talking about letting go of my hand. "I won 't be mad, I promise you. I'll be ok, and you 'll feel better." I whispered, as a tear slowly fell down my cheek. He squeezed my hand. I know it 's crazy but in that moment, during that hand squeeze, I knew God would take over, and make sure my grandpa was in good hands. Later that night, as we were leaving, we said our final goodbyes. All of our last words to him were as simple, yet as wonderful as "I love you." I, of course, cried on the way out, and as we headed home, I dozed off in the car. When we got home, my eyes were sore and puffy, and my head ached like it never had before. I couldn 't make it up to my bed, so I curled up on the couch, and dreamed of simpler times. I remember crystal clearly, I woke up, 4:55 AM. I felt lost, not your typical "Woah, where am I" kind of lost, but almost like a "Something isn 't right here and I don 't know Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. My Father is a Living Holocaust Memoir Essay My Father is The Living Holocaust Memoir When you hear " Holocaust Survivor" you think of a new beginning, a better future, victory at last." But what happens when parents bring a child into this world and their priority is to love and protect their baby In a better and safe place have been traumatized of the past with incredible amount of horrifying memories and experiences? In Art Spiegelman's graphic novels, MAUS 1 and MAUS 2, he exposes the true story of his father, Vladek, and his experience as a Jew throughout the Holocaust through pictures and sketchy storytelling. The relationship between Art and his father is the essential description in the book as Art has no other way to escape from being victimized by his own father's...show more content... It's obviously showed that with Vladek actions towards people we can understand why they feel so low. Vladek throughout the story, he stresses the importance of his heart (comparing himself of how heroic and very strong he use to be). "It's good for my heart..the pedaling.." (1 12) All the sweat, blood and tears (energy) it took to survive the Holocaust seems to build up and haunt Vladek as present (life now). He needs to know that everyone ages and he has to accept the fact that he's getting old and he cannot be what he once was and that's young again doing all the skillful things he use to do. To further exacerbate the situation, a typical father son relationship is all about bonding, trust and understanding each other. Seemingly he's not able to do so because of the distress overpowering his brain, he continues to be insensitive to Art. Art can't fathom Vladek and he starts to lose hope by saying to Francois his women, "I mean, I can't even make any sense out of my relationship with my father..how am I supposed to make sense out of Auschwitz?..the Holocaust?" (MAUS 2 14) Art later on start to get the sense of hope again and make better out of worse and asked Vladek questions of his mother Anja. Art finds out that her "diaries" (MAUS 1 159) we're destroyed purposely by Vladek. Not only does Art feel hopeless because his mother is gone but now he can't even share her voice with the world today. There was no way of expressing her Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 9. English 101 Memoir Essay The snow had all but melted away and the smell of spring filled the air. Just a few months of school were left; it was my eighth grade year. Much preparation and months of work had been done to get ready for the last dance of the year. It was the last dance of our middle school career and the excitement was building. It all began with shopping. First with my girlfriends over the years, goofing off on trips to the mall trying on gorgeous flowing gowns for fun, and then it was finally time for me to buy one, finally a formal occasion where I got to dress up in a fancy gown with high heels, my Mom took me to the mall. Even though it wasn't quite prom, it was still a formal dance, a celebration of completing middle school and entering into...show more content... We burst out of the door, unveiling ourselves to the crowd outside. We felt like rock stars. Everyone had to get a few more pictures with other friends as they arrived and then we filed inside. The place was decorated from top to bottom, glittered stars hung from the ceiling, white Christmas lights twinkled all around, and glimmering gowns in every color made the entire venue sparkle. As a class, months earlier, we had chosen the theme, "I've had the time of my life". The girls had pulled it from our favorite movie, "Dirty Dancing", and I think the boys just went with it. We sat down for dinner where we were served our choice of meat, with rice or potatoes and a medley of veggies. Nobody ate much though, either because of nerves, vanity, or just plain desire to get to showing off our best moves, we wanted to boogie! After about an hour the tables were cleared off of the dance floor and it was time to the highly anticipated partying. The DJ played the hottest jams of 1999 and we danced the night away. Most of the girls were in their bare feet, unable to take the pain of high heels any longer as we busted our best moves. The night was coming to an end; parents were slowly showing up to collect their kids. The DJ announced it was the last song of the night. It was our theme song. Jaimie and I swayed together on the dance floor belting out the words we knew by heart when we heard what sounded like Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Memoir: A Short Story Memoir How much impact can life and death make in someone's life? In my case, both the death of someone and the life of someone gave me a completely different view on life. No matter what the age, life and death will impact a person in one way or another, whether they thought it would or not. Death. During the entire time period if my life, I have experienced many changes. Death can change an entire person's life in an instant. This is what happened to me, as my life was changed in an instant. I learned to not take a person's life for granted. K.D. Gleason had been a family friend for as long as I can remember. He was like another father to me and another brother to my father. K.D. died on January 16, 2011 of a brain tumor and liver failure...show more content... Whether it's a new sibling, a niece or nephew, or even your own baby, everything just dramatically changed. Having a newborn is a lot of work and I found that out after my big sister had the baby. I didn't know that this baby would make such a huge difference in even my life. Four months ago on May 11 of 2014, my sister gave birth to her first born child, Zoey Jane. It was a very happy and exciting time for everyone, especially for myself as I was finally an aunt. When my sister finally got to go home and stay home after many medical things came up, I stayed to help her for a week because she had had a cesarean section and couldn't quite do everything she needed to do. Being there for my sister was a great thing, but it made me realize just how much work having a newborn child was. It was nonstop labor for the baby and her mother, much of which I became part of. Even though my sister was 27, she was having a very hard time keeping up with Zoey and all of her needs. Seeing my big sister struggle was a wake up call for me. Realizing how hard it actually was having a new baby, made me want to make better choices and not have a child until I knew it was the right time, the right time being when I could handle a baby, physically, emotionally and also financially. At the moment I have no desire to have a child. In fact, having my first child at the age of 27 doesn't seem so bad after Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Dry: A Memoir Essay After finishing this memoir, there is no denying that the main character, Augusten Burroughs, has a problem. From a very young age his alcoholic tendencies (coupled with other drug use) have caused hardships for both himself and those around him. As he aged, so his alcoholism increased. In Dry: A memoir we get to see Augusten's challenging journey from a life revolving around alcohol to sobriety. As previously mentioned, it is undeniable that Augusten did have a problem. But, does this automatically mean he is clinically diagnosable with an alcohol related disorder? Unfortunately, in this case, the answer is yes. Augusten Burroughs is not only diagnosable for clinical substance dependence, but could be considered the poster child of the...show more content... At the age of 18, he drinks five drinks a night to get drunk. By the time he is 20 this had moved up to 10 drinks a night to get drunk, with the occasion (self–labeled) binge. The fact that Augusten has said that his binges go well beyond the clinical definition of a binge. There is a strong argument that the clinical level of a binge (4 drinks for women, 5 for men) is too small for truly problematic drinking (Wechsler, 1998). By the time Augusten was 21, he was drinking a liter of Dewar's along with cocktails. Overall, it is impossible to deny that as Augusten got older and his drinking habits progressed, he developed a very strong tolerance for alcohol. When Augusten was checked into his rehab center, he had relatively few symptoms of clinical withdrawal. The only major one pointed out was a high blood pressure, which could have easily been due to the journey in which he knew he was about to embark on. But, it is a different story altogether when he is in the midst of a relapse. After a sleepless, sick feeling night, Augusten falls into withdrawal. It starts with hallucinations of spiders (criterion B.5 for the DSM diagnosis of withdrawal). After 24 hours of no alcohol he feels as if he is dying. His body is shaking and his hands have such bad tremors "they vibrate" (criterion B.2). His heart rate has increased dramatically (Criterion B.1) to the point that it "woke me up...beating so wildly in my chest...like someone pounding on the front door". My family has it all, the good and the bad. My dad was never able to remarry or settle down with someone new. As much as I would love for my dad to remarry or find someone it appears that he has lost interest to do so. This is what hurts me the most, knowing my dad is alone and will be alone because of whatever reason. When my dad fell ill, I was the only one there by his side, my sister didn't bother to take care of him or visit him daily in the hospital. My mother did visit him a few times because he still cares for him in a non–romantic way. My dad has been hospitalized several times, and no matter where he is I have managed to go see him almost every single day regardless of what is going on in my life. There was a time period where I had to drive daily to Westwood, and I remember taking my homework, books, laptop to work on my school assignments, while my sister on the other hand was a cold–hearted person and didn't bother to worry. Moments like this, where I had to see my dad hospitalized over and over again made me wish for my family to still be together as one whole family. Knowing that I was the only one visiting my dad broke my heart into a million pieces because I wished he at least had another partner or more family here in the USA for them to visit him and keep him Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. Examples Of A Literacy Memoir Literacy Memoir My reading experience has had a lot of ups and downs. I was never an over–achiever in my language arts or reading classes, which has affected my passion for reading. A lot of my opinions about reading have changed even just since this summer. I don't have any recollection of reading before kindergarten except for learning the letters. Kindergarten was a struggle for me, but after kindergarten to third grade. In third grade I peaked and absolutely loved reading and writing, but it faded in middle school and has been fading since then for me. I do remember what I believe was the first day of kindergarten when we had a flash card test with random small easy words on them. I went through all of the flash cards only knowing the...show more content... It was sixth grade and an advanced English class was chosen. I was discouraged because I actually enjoyed reading and writing but found out I wasn't smart enough to be in that class. However, I would say that seventh grade was my favorite year of English. We still had vocabulary, which I wish we still did because I always have boring essays because I don't remember the words we learned. I wouldn't say that I disliked reading yet in middle school. I'd even say the most exciting part of middle school would be reading The Hunger Games with Mrs. Young, especially since she was kind of a nerd and got overly excited about all of our Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. Autobiography Of A Memoir Essay ashVictor Garcia Mrs. Elliott English IV 25 August, 2017 Memoir As a child, my perception of the world was clear. I knew what was right and wrong, i knew what was good and bad, and i knew that once you lose something for whatever reason, you may never really recover from it. Though i understood that life isn 't all sunshine and rainbows, losing everything never seemed possible to me. I grew up in a single wide trailer with my older sister and both of my parents. My father had always worked hard to provide a home for my family, and even though we didn 't have the nicest home or the nicest possessions, we were all grateful for what we had. We lived a mostly regular life. My father would work everyday, my mother was a stay at home...show more content... After a few minutes I could hear the footsteps of my family desperately trying to escape the burning flames that was consuming my home. My father busted into my room, and his face was covered in sweat, and his eyes were watery as a cause of the smoke. I knew that at the moment he was filled with fear, but he still scooped me out of my bed and carried me out of my room and into our hallway. My father was running as fast as he could to carry me out of the house, but to me we were moving in slow motion. I began to look around, and i could see picture frames which contained memories of my family and i, burn up as if erasing those memories from our lives. Once we made it out, i could see my mother holding my sister outside in our driveway, and her cheeks were rosy red, and covered in tears. A fire truck pulled into our driveway and put out the fire in a matter of minutes. Though the fire that was burning in my home was put out, i felt like there was a fire in me, but a fire of anger. "Why did this happen to us!", i yelled angrily. My mother tried to calm me down and tell me that everything would be okay, but i knew that it wouldn 't be okay any time soon. When the fire was put out, i walked up to what was left after the fire and i could see that the fire had only burned part of my home. That night we went and slept at my uncles home, but i did not sleep. All i could think of was what had happened that day. I was no longer in my own bed, in Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Example Of A Personal Memoir I was born on a cold October morning, well that is something my mother always told me. Perhaps, that is one of the many reasons why I enjoy cold days and drinking coffee. I have live my whole life in Chicago, but I do have dreams of moving somewhere else. My family consisted of my father, mother, and sister, who is my twin, for eighteen years. However, in the past month a newfamily member got added, Toma Heroine Touka, my kitten. It is a really funny story how she came to be added to my family. It all started when I told my dad "If Germany wins that World Cup, then he should get me a cat." My dad took it as a joke, but accepted it. Time passed and I saw that I would never get a cat that I can call my own. It was around late November when Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 17. Soccer Memoir As a young girl, I was introduced to soccer by my father. I think I was about eight at the time when I first played on a recreational team, and I remember that I had always wanted to play goalkeeper. In soccer, the goalkeeper is the last defensive player, but is also the first offensive player once the play turns. The idea of playing such an important position thrilled me, and it didn't hurt that the goalkeeper gets the opportunity to use their hands as well as punt the ball across the field. From the age of nine until the age of eleven, I played competitive and recreational soccer as a goalkeeper, and stopped in the sixth grade. I picked the sport back up as a freshman in high school, after my younger sister had urged me to join the school...show more content... Naturally, however, I got apprehensive in some plays and hesitated or did not move exactly as I should have, which would usually result in a goal or near shot, but it was not the end of the world. Near the end of my last season on junior varsity, I was goalkeeping against one of the toughest teams in my county, and was being hammered by their offense. At one point, I rushed forward to steal the ball from a forward, hesitated, and collided with the player. The sheer force of two players running towards one another and crashing jolted me, and I was on the ground, okay but a little confused. The player beside me struggled to get up, and she could not. I must have been in shock, because I could only sit and stare as the school trainer hurried over, and an ambulance was called for. She was ultimately taken to the emergency room, and doctors determined that she had broken both bones in her shin. I was given a red card, and later a three game suspension as a result, even though the accident had been unintentional. Something like this had never happened to me, and I was not only dumbfounded, but I lost a great deal of confidence in myself as a Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. Personal Narrative: My Memoir I found out that I had deep buried emotions. I didn't know they were so deep before. I thought I was healed from my experiences but I have come to the realization that I was not healed emotionally. I also found out that I had a plot inside me and stories to tell from that plot. I was very scared to write one of my memoir. The main reason for my fear was that I was scared of what others may think of me. I have learned that when you are writing, whatever you are afraid to write about, go ahead and write it. Don't think what others will think just write. So I wrote as if I were the only one reading it. I think I have grown from the experience of writing memoirs and interacting with my classmates. I have grown in the sense that I have overcome Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 19. Examples Of A Memoir Essay Memoir I was eight or seven, I lived in Gallup New Mexico at the time. One day in the summer my mother, cousin and I decided to visit our uncle Paul. He was an older man but very athletic he had his own home gym in his basement. When we got to his house he and my mother sat and had a grown–up conversation, me and my cousin Jerry decided to go explore the basement. In our uncle's basement, he had four rooms. One had a huge pool table, another one was filled with weights and matts for yoga, the third one we never went into because the door was always locked. And the fourth, this fourth room would become my worst nightmare, it was filled with elliptical and treadmill equipment. Once inside we started climbing and playing with the elliptical. I looked over to the treadmill and said to jerry, "I've got a great idea. Why don't we get on the treadmill with only our socks on and run as fast as the treadmill can go and then jump off." Now jerry was only a year younger than me but he of course thought it was a great idea. So, we each took our shoes of and stood on the treadmill, the treadmill itself was relatively old and was so close to the wall. We stood there not thinking of the consequences of our actions, looked at one another and grinned a big grin. I turned the knob slowly, we started speed walking the running and running faster till we were panting, the knob was on fast burn the fastest setting on the treadmill. Jerry jumped off, me on the other hand tripped over my socks, I fell and the treadmill still on the fasts setting pushed me up against the wall my neck to the back of the treadmill and my legs bent over my head like a contortionist. I screamed and screamed. My cousin sat there in silence watching this horrid event unfold before him, all the color flushed from his body. • 20. High School Memoir Assignment Ronya Berrian Professor Paul Jackson English 1101–RG October 4th, 2017 Memoir Assignment I'm sure many have shared stories of their high school experiences and can relate when I say those four years have taught me many lessons. During this time, I'd come face to face with the fraudulent friendships, temporary romances, and other high school dramas that my parents once warned me about–those of which I simply brushed off as myths. It wasn't the 90's anymore– times have changed and people are different–or at least, that's what I thought. I think I speak for many people when I say high school is a critical point in one's life. Coming into high school, things seemed to be tightly–knitted between my peers and I; those of us who had just ...show more content... Her behavior had become odd and her attitude was unusual. The once timid, soft–spoken girl was now, to be blunt–a b*tch. The start of this tumultuous path was a relationship she had ended a few months prior to date. The guy was a complete control freak. He was manipulative, conniving, and downright degrading. What I thought was a new beginning for her and another chance at happiness, had actually turned out to be a complete disaster. It turned out that she had been involved with him all along. Rather than being honest with us, she lied continuously. We expressed to her that if he brought her happiness then we had no say so. We had no other option but to be happy for her. However, she still insisted that she'd cut all ties with him. For my eighteenth birthday the three of us made a pact to get matching tattoos in honor of our friendship; it would've been the first for each of us. Needless to say, she ruined our plans entirely. One day she'd informed us that her older sister was going to get a tattoo and that she was going for "moral support". What turned out to be a trip to the tattoo parlor with her sister was actually a cover up for her to go and get matching tattoos with her ex. Till this day, I believe I never would've known that if I hadn't seen the text messages of her conversation with someone else. It baffled me that she could be completely open and honest with a stranger as opposed to the people she called Get more content on HelpWriting.net
