3. Aspirations Definition: a strong desire, longing or aim; ambition. F. Scott Fitzgerald wanted to live the high life and live the “American Dream “ which was and still is many peoples aspirations . Jay Gatsby, the main character in “The Great Gatsby”, also had a similar story. He had an aspiration to be the center of attention and have everything he ever wants.

4. Loss and Struggle Fitzgerald lost his daughter when she went off to school. She was adopted into a foster family. Fitzgerald lost control of his wife when she cheated on him with a French naval aviator. In the book, Tom Buchanan lost control of his wife, Daisy, to Jay Gatsby. In the 1920’s, the worst thing for a man to do is to lose control of his wife. Daisy lost Gatsby when he was murdered.

5. Relationships with Illusions of Love Was Daisy and Gatsby’s relationship real love of just a fling? Gatsby really did love Daisy but she was not as serious as he was. Jay Gatsby loved her so much he took the blame when Daisy killed Mrs. Wilson by running her over in a car. Fitzgerald’s marriage was not real love because he and his wife both cheated on each other.

6. Values and attitudes of the 1920’s Things began to drastically change in the 1920’s. Example: dresses got shorter, foul language was used more loosely, and affairs became more publically known. It was not just one person that started this new revolution. Values were not something people took pride in anymore. Women became more sleazy. Comparison: Gatsby and Daisy’s affair was public as well as Zelda Fitzgerald and the French Naval aviator's and also Fitzgerald and the various women he had relationships with. Tom even had an affair with Mrs. Myrtle Wilson.

7. Boundless dream of Love, Luxury, and Fame. Gatsby threw extravagant parties to show he had the luxuries and to try and achieve fame while trying to gain Daisy’s love. Fitzgerald was in debt once he left his parents home. He wanted to live a live he could not afford. He wanted to have the relationship everyone was jealous of. He wanted to gain fame from his books and his lifestyle.
