1. Students at Zilnon Namgyal primary school felt that waste management was a major problem affecting their school and surrounding community. They decided to take action to reduce waste and create a cleaner, healthier environment.
2. The students imagined having a clean surrounding with reduced waste. They thought of proper waste disposal habits to implement.
3. The students discussed carrying out activities like creating waste management awareness, stopping junk food at school, using proper trash collection bags and cans, collecting and removing trash from school grounds, and following the 4Rs of reduce, reuse, refuse, and recycle. Their goal was to make the school and surrounding area plastic free.
2. 1.FEEL Stage(11th
- 17th
August 2010).
The students felt that they needed to work on waste Management as waste was
observed to be the biggest problem affecting them and the
surrounding/communities around the school. They took the conviction that they
will be drivers for change to reduce waste in order to make surrounding clean and
healthy to live in.
3. 2.IMAGINE Stage (18th
-24th
August 2010).
In the second stage of IMAGINE, they imagined having a clean and safe
surrounding and having the waste reduced. And for those waste that were
inevitable from generation, habits for proper disposal were thought of and shared
for implementation.
4. 3.DO Stage (25th
–August -1st
September 2010).
The student discussed to carry out the following activities.

(b).Stop bringing money and junk food to school.

6. 4.SHARING Stage
To fulfill the sharing stage, the student shared the idea of waste management
through documentation like the picture profiling, acting out skit with a song they
composed entitled the “solidiers for Enviroment “ by showing a small clip of the
movie that was filmed during the process of the program. As a part of sharing,
the action plan for reducing and managing waste was shared by the DFC students
in one of the assemblies in the school.
For continuation of the activities charted and in order to sustain in the goals and
aspiration of the DFC contest, the school ensured that the rest of the student will
cooperate with the DFC in order to keep school garbage free and become pioneer
school in waste reduction and management.
