First Option
Dynamics
Germany needed to stop the fast transitions from Italy in
order to secure it’s defense.
Usually Germany shows up in a 1-4-3-3 tactical display,
with a lot of pressure in the defensive process.
Regarding the offensive process, Germany usually opts
to populate the space in the middle and between the
lines.
Against Italy, overcrowding the center would left empty
spaces in the areas that Italy uses to counter attack.
So Germany changed the system to a 1-3-5-2 in order to
control the wings in the counter attack.

Searching for Space
Dynamics
A 3-defender system creates more concentration in the
area.
Germany needed to control the 2 forwards and the 2
wingers whom gave Italy a lot of depth in the offensive
process – this was the biggest threat.
Germany still struggled when Italy changed the side very
quickly, specially Kimich on the right side.

Shooting Zone
Dynamics
Although some struggle to get the marking zones right,
they were really compact and basculated really well
along the game. With the support of the injured Khedira
and Schweinsteiger later, the 3 defenders defined the
pressure zones effectively.
Creating numeric advantage was essential to stop Italy,
and to be closer to the ball when it went on the wings.
This didn’t allow the italians to take advantage of the
space created.

Shots
Dynamics
Italy didn´t dominate the game but created a lot of shooting
opportunities.
As we can see, they tried with different players to variate
their game and creat more problems to Germany, often
with long shots, due to the lack of space in the danger
zones.
