Eastfield is in a valley between two hills. It is a small city, so there are not many people
living there. Some of them work in offices in New York. But others work in Eastfield itself. In
this city you can find a factory near the station, an office building downtown and a park near
Jefferson Road. There is also a lake in the middle of the Park. Five blocks from the station
there is a recreation center with a basketball court. There are some stores on Longwell
Avenue: on one side, there is a newsstand, a restaurant and a post office. On the opposite
side there is a library, a supermarket and a hairdresser’s. It is a very quiet place and life
around here is extremely healthy.

old his father got a job in L.A. and the whole family moved to California. Three years later his
mother died and Jim had to live with his aunt. He wanted to be an actor and in January, 1952,
he went to New York to take a theater course. In 1954, he made his first movie “East of Eden”.
In a short time he became a star of the American cinema. He died in a car accident in
September, 1955, after recording his third and last movie.

New York is a 24-hour-a-day city. The subways and buses run round the clock and plenty of
services are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Banks are open from 9 to 3 from
Monday to Friday, with certain branches open late on Friday. Post offices are open weekdays
from 10 to 5. The main post office on Eighth Avenue is never closed. Museums are closed on
Mondays, but open late on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Stores are usually open during the day
and some of them keep opened even at night. In residential neighbourhoods, they are open till
very late and most of the big supermarkets run 24 hours, too.

TEXT – 05
A computer is a machine that manipulates data according to a list of instructions.
The first devices that resemble modern computers date to the mid-20th century (around
1940 - 1945), although the computer concept and various machines similar to
computers existed earlier. Early electronic computers were the size of a large room,
consuming as much power as several hundred modern personal computers.[1] Modern
computers are based on tiny integrated circuits and are millions to billions of times
more capable while occupying a fraction of the space. Today, simple computers may be
made small enough to fit into a wristwatch and be powered from a watch battery.

Intel Multi-Core
Multi-core processors are single chips that contain two or more distinct processors in the same
integrated circuit. They are independent and they do the task-sharing themselves.
What does that mean? Increasingly, software that sends multiple instructions is being
developed. Tens of thousands of times a second – specially while running intensive programs
like high-definition video or engineering programs – software is making decisions. Here’s how
Intel processors do it better.

What’s so different about “ESL Site”?
First, all of our data are free to anyone who wants them. Second, we use a very different
approach from any other courses or websites.
We believe that the fastest way to improve your English is to practice the four skills at the same
time: reading, writing, listening and speaking, starting with material that you can understand, at
least, part of it. We explain the language and how to use it. That’s all.

Why should you choose Microsoft?
Think of a visit to the Microsoft site like a walk to the bank, the grocery store, or even the
cosmetic surgeon: sometimes you just need to boost your system, attend your necessities, or
just change your computing lifestyle. Our Office offers a variety of downloads, designed to give
you all you need and much more. And there is a significant difference between coming to our
Office or seeing the plastic surgeon: all of our downloads are free. That's right: F-R-E-E.

Why so many? Why so often?
And finally, the ultimate question: Why do we have so many updates, and so often? In a word
or two: We're human, and we do make mistakes. But more than that, technology moves so fast
that while we're busily fixing the issues that pop up after we make a product available, we're
also coming up with newer and better ways of doing things. And, in fact, we get many of our
ideas for new products and configurations from you, the loyal customers. So why shouldn´t we
change?

Contacting Microsoft Office
And how can you make suggestions to help us improve our products and services? It's about
our On-line Office we are talking about.
Because of the customers´needs, we can´t wait until every download is perfect before making it
available, if so, you'd be waiting and waiting. While we want to be competitive, we need to
balance how long it takes to create the software and how perfect it is. We want to give you
what you want since you're so damn demanding, but sometimes things don't go exactly as
planned. In this case, you need to install an updating.

What should I do if it does not work?
 Contact your motherboard manufacturer to see if you should upgrade your system.
Sometimes an upgrading is necessary to enable support for new products.
 Verify if the memory modules are the correct ones for your motherboard and that they
      are installed properly.
 Check the power supply, see if it is appropriate for the processor model and the
      motherboard you are using.
 Make sure the processor fan cable is connected to the correct fan outlet (specifically
designed for the processor). Refer to your motherboard documentation for more
      information.
 Pay particular attention to the orientation of the interface, which is applied to the
      processor.

There is also a lake in the middle of the Park. Five blocks from the station there is a recreation center with a basketball court. There are some stores on Longwell Avenue: on one side, there is a newsstand, a restaurant and a post office. On the opposite side there is a library, a supermarket and a hairdresser’s. • 27. 27. TEXT – 05 A computer is a machine that manipulates data according to a list of instructions. The first devices that resemble modern computers date to the mid-20th century (around 1940 - 1945), although the computer concept and various machines similar to computers existed earlier. Early electronic computers were the size of a large room, consuming as much power as several hundred modern personal computers.[1] Modern computers are based on tiny integrated circuits and are millions to billions of times more capable while occupying a fraction of the space. Today, simple computers may be made small enough to fit into a wristwatch and be powered from a watch battery. ___________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________ TEXT – 06 Intel Multi-Core Multi-core processors are single chips that contain two or more distinct processors in the same integrated circuit. They are independent and they do the task-sharing themselves. What does that mean? Increasingly, software that sends multiple instructions is being developed. Tens of thousands of times a second – specially while running intensive programs like high-definition video or engineering programs – software is making decisions. Here’s how Intel processors do it better. ___________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________

Why so often? And finally, the ultimate question: Why do we have so many updates, and so often? In a word or two: We're human, and we do make mistakes. But more than that, technology moves so fast that while we're busily fixing the issues that pop up after we make a product available, we're also coming up with newer and better ways of doing things. And, in fact, we get many of our ideas for new products and configurations from you, the loyal customers. So why shouldn´t we change? ___________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________ TEXT – 12 Contacting Microsoft Office And how can you make suggestions to help us improve our products and services? It's about our On-line Office we are talking about. Because of the customers´needs, we can´t wait until every download is perfect before making it available, if so, you'd be waiting and waiting. While we want to be competitive, we need to balance how long it takes to create the software and how perfect it is. We want to give you what you want since you're so damn demanding, but sometimes things don't go exactly as planned. In this case, you need to install an updating.
