Purpose: To show the standards incorporated into the slide show.
Purpose: To identify and use various media to gain information.Teacher will model how to manipulate the slide show so that students can do it again independently for reinforcement of the meaning of the vocabulary. The first two sections can be completed as part of the introduction to Theme 2 Around Town: Neighborhood and Community. The next three sections can viewed prior to reading the literature Chinatown.
Purpose: Increase vocabulary and the understanding of the word “neighborhood”.Students silently, then orally: Say the blue words. Read the center sentence. Discuss the relationship between the pictures and the word “neighborhood.” Think, pair, share the corner question.
Purpose: Increase vocabulary and the understanding of the word “community”. To understand the relationship between neighborhoods and a community.Students silently, then orally: Read the blue words. Read the top sentence. Discuss the community workers in the pictures. Read about “Wanda” and watch the video segment.Teacher: Show the students how to do the word search.
Purpose: To recognize the words for workers in a community. To use various media to gain information.This can be done by students independently. Remind students do close the site of the word search.
Purpose: To increase vocabulary and understand the characteristics of a city.Students: Read silently and aloud the colored words and question. Think, pair, share about the picture and why it looks like a city. Watch the video segment about a city. Read about Wanda. Watch each video segment about homes, transportation, and buildings in a city.
Purpose: To increase vocabulary and understanding of these words which will be used in students’ texts.Students will read silently and chorally the vocabulary words after viewing each picture. The teacher will hold up vocabulary cards with these words for the students to recite and use the words in oral sentences.
Purpose: To increase of vocabulary and the understanding of these words which will be used in their text. To appreciate cultural diversity.Students: Read silently and aloud the red word and the question. The teacher will read the colored words (vocabulary) as the students repeat each. Watch the video segment of Chinatown. Watch part of the video of tai chi and try some of the moves. Watch the video segment of a Chinese New Year. Teacher: Hold up vocabulary cards with these words for the students to recite and use the words in oral sentences.
